We received a Rosie reenactor led tour of the Willow Run Bomber Plant and she painted such a great picture of what the building was used for, how planes moved through the plant, and why the building was important in the scheme of things. They have really great things planned for the future - I hope they can get it up and running to preserve an important part of Michigans history.

This plant was opened in 1941 by Ford to build B24 Liberator bombers from Consolidated aircraft for war effort. After the war it became vehicle assembly plant. It was purchased by Kaiser-Fraser but they sold it to GM in 1953 who continued to make cars here until 1992, then it switched to transmission production until final closure in 2010 and demolition. This plant was really huge. Too bad its gone.
