Other than the ugly trees-of-heaven dotting the hillside, this is a really nice scenic area. The mill is closed now for season, but it’s location on the hill by the river is very nice for photographs, as was obvious by the number of people queuing to have their pictures taken there and around the nearby covered bridge. The bridge for the road is currently closed to pedestrians, so you can’t get that view of the mill and waterfall/river but no problem. Now that autumn is here and the foliage will be changing, it’s the perfect time to go out and enjoy the colours and serenity of nature. Cheers.
Great stop for the afternoon or even the holidays. Admission is only $1 if you are from the area and that includes a tour of the mill and access to inside of the building. We have been to the mill several times and the last time we were there we got to witness them turning on the wheel wow we were downstairs. Was an awesome experience. You can find a full review of this location on our website and YouTube channel.
Nestled between neighborhoods lays this historical gem and beautiful natural area. A nice detour to get away from it all for an hour or two.
Always beautiful, but especially at Christmas
This is a wonderful place to spend time. I went there a few times during the 2 weeks I was in the area. They have a gift shop with framed photos of the mill and waterfall as well as the covered bridge over Mill Creek and part of Mill Creek Park which has the Silver Suspension Bridge dating back to 1895 and other waterfalls and lots of hiking trails. The old mill is well worth the trip through to watch it in action. Very fascinating.
Very beautiful with lots of history.
We loved the trail to the water. So beautiful!
Beautiful fall afternoon and a lovely hike along Millcreek.
Such a stunning and picturesque old mill. Glad to see funding was raised to restore and preserve this piece of history. A covered bridge was also built in 1988. Got there early and they wasnt open until 10:00 am, but was able to view everything outside. They also have outside restroom facilities available.
I liked it. Need to come back when we have more time to explore.
Beautiful park!
Outstanding example of a working 19th century grist mill located in a beautiful setting within Mill Creek Park in Youngstown, Ohio
This is an incredible Youngstown gem. Easy to find, plenty of parking & the park is always clean. This place is a must see anytime of year, but I highly recommend fall! The mill is also open certain days for you to see inside of it and shop around for gifts. I love it!
Not to be missed. Also, the $1 tour of the functioning mill is great.
What a wonderful find in Youngstown. The mill and the park are a site to see. .75: cents for kids and 2.00 for non-residents. Definitely worth seeing.
Was a real nice time really enjoyed the covered bridge
I had the opportunity to visit the Lanterman’s mill, I highly recommend going to the inside Mill tour as it will explain the history of the entire park and the mill. The area is beautiful!!!
This place is fantastic. They do a very nice job in keeping this place very well maintained. Admission price was only $2 for both my wife and I. Nice little gift shop. Worth stopping by if you are in the area. The employee was more than happy to answer any questions.
Wonderful educational experience and beautiful surroundings
Beautiful spot. Ample parking, nice area for walking. Mill decorated for Christmas was especially wonderful.
Great walking/ hiking trails, very beautiful in the winter
This mill is an amazing place to visit. It is still used to grind flower, and it it worth a special trip just to see. As an added treat, hike from the mill along the East Gorge Trail to the suspension bridge, cross over, and hike back towards the mill. After crossing the covered bridge, you end up back at Lantermans Mill. This two mile loop is one of the very best trails in Ohio. There are rock ledges, boardwalks, waterfalls, and much more.
We love going to mills and this is the best one we have ever seen. Very friendly staff and very helpful. The parking lot is under construction but we called and good directions.
Lovely little gem hidden in Ohio with nice views. Pleasant trail views.
The mill wasnt working when we went, but it is still a cool place to check out. For the money (its super cheap) you get a little guided tour, then are allowed to walk around as you like. Even when the mill isnt running you can see the water wheel turning, which is cool. Kids might get a little bored, but mine were troopers. You can buy milled grain (corn, wheat, buckwheat) that they made in the mill here, too.
Im relaxing place to enjoy the waterfall and see a bit of local history with the fully opperational mill
Main issue I have is it has bad hours to view the inside. But it is a beautiful spot in a dirty town. Get some fresh air and visit
Really enjoyed the trails! Very clean and everyone was friendly. The path was shaded for the most part making the hot weather more tolerable.
We had a good time. The trails were very clean and easy to navigate.
Easy hiking and great photo opportunities. Definitely worth a visit.
This is a one of a kind, and must visit if you are in the area.
Lantermans Mill and the gorge are beautiful relics of the past; the former, a grist mill from the 1800s and the latter, a leftover from the glaciation of 30,000 years ago. The East Gorge trail will take you alongside of both for a hike or a stroll, whichever pace and distance you choose, where the sights and sounds of nature abound.
My girlfriend and I rode the Harley 80+ miles to get here. It was excellent. The whole Mill was really cool. We appreciated everything that went into this. It was $2 total to tour the Mill. Staff was really friendly and informative. So Cool !!! Thanks
Beautiful views. Good walking trail.
Theve kept it in good shape. Grandpa would be proud.
Step back in time for a brief moment and see the the water wheel spin. I love the sound of the water and the gears. We purchased some buckwheat in the gift shop. It made the best pancakes! It is a beautiful place with beautiful trails to explore. My family cant wait to go back.
Beautiful hidden treasure!
Nice clean really good walking area with a history very picturesque excellent for wedding pictures hopefully the park service will keep this up and keep the drug trafficking from ruining a great area
This place is a Youngstown gem. One of the best places in Ohio to visit. There are spectacular walking trails that go in multiple directions along the creek and through the woods.
The mill and surrounding gardens and park are quite pretty. We received a partial off-season tour from a very friendly staff member. It was very interesting to hear the history and view the inside structures of the building. We also took a walk on the trails and enjoyed the woods and views of the water and flowers, fences, benches... a peaceful and relaxing day. A few of the best views for pics are from the bridge looking down at the mill and waterfall... along the trails looking through the trees toward the back of the mill... and under the bridge looking through the wrought iron at the ivy covered side and front of the building. There are other parks in the area, too, for walking or picnicking...
This is my get away from the world love this place ️
Great place to take the family. For a fun and senic view especially in the fall. Great for taking outdoor photos if you enjoy photography and also great place to walk pets. If you love the outdoors and seeing new things and you are adventures this is the place to go.
Beautiful view and hiking trails. The mill was built in the 1700s and returned to grinding flour and corn meal bask in the 80s. When it was rebuilt, they room care to keep the original style. Historic items on the first floor and upstairs and if you go down 5 flights you can view the water mill working and grinding the flour
When Im in Youngstown and want to take a relaxing walk, this is where I go. No matter the season, this park is beautiful. The trails allow you to see all the angles of the mill and waterfall easily and offer shade and sun both. Parking for the mill is free and very close, so if you want to visit when its working and giving tours, it is a great choice. I hope we continue to preserve this amazing attraction.
Very neat and fascinating place! If youre in the area its definitely some place to check out if youre the least bit interested in history. The cost to get in was only $2 which we were surprised by. The surrounding park and trails were really calming and serene as well!
Love it/must see place!!!
What a wonderful find while in the Youngstown area! The hiking trails were great to explore. The mill and waterfall were absolutely beautiful!! Its an area so rich in history. A hidden gem!

Great views. Great historical sure. Price is very minimal to get in the mill. The falls are beautiful and the gorge nearly breathtaking.
Very well maintained, and friendly staff. Will definitely be back for more trail walking.
My family and I loved how clean and maintained the park was. The Mill was fantastic and staffed by knowledgeable people. I always wondered what it would be like inside of a working Mill.
Isaac Powers and Phineas Hill established Lantermans Mill site in 1799. The first gristmill in the Western Reserve was built with round logs. Eli Baldwin replaced the first mill with a larger frame structure in 1823. In 1843, Baldwins mill was destroyed in a flood. Today you can still see a remnant of Baldwins old mill. About 500 feet downstream, there rests one of Baldwins buhrstones.German Lanterman and his brother-in-law Samuel Kimberly built the present mill in 1845 to 1846 with 80 men and 20 teams of horses.Lantermans Mill originally had an overshot waterwheel but was converted to turbines before it ceased operations in 1888. The mill did not function again and fell into a deteriorated condition. In 1982 the Mill Creek Park activated plans to restore the mill and place it back into operation.Today, Lantermans Mill presents one of the most spectacular scenes in Ohio. Located next to a 23 natural waterfall, the mill stands 6 1/2 stories tall. The lower 4 stories are laid with cut sandstone. This massive stone foundation supports the upper 2 1/2-story frame structure. The exterior of the framed portion is covered with naturally weathered lap siding. The numerous windows are 12 over 8 double-hung. The mill was originally built for a 14 waterwheel and that presently powers the mill. The waterwheel is located inside the mill on the lowest level. The water is channeled into the mill via a millrace that has its sluice gates just above the 4 dam that is about 30 yards behind the natural waterfall. The dams construction secures an ample water supply. The water flows through the millrace into the mill, over the waterwheel and exits at the lowest level under the building.Presently the millstones grind whole-wheat flour, cornmeal and buckwheat that are sold at the mills store. Lantermans Mill is open May 1 through October 31, Tuesday through Friday 10-5, and Saturday, Sunday & Holidays 11-6. Tours of the mill are available for a nominal fee.One of the most spectacular scenes in Ohio, the Lantermans Mill is a wonderful experience. There are trails surrounding the mill and a replica covered bridge at the site. (Bresko; Darbee; Lantermans Mill.).
Beautiful part of Mill Creek park! The mill is fun to visit too, but the hours are hard to work with.
