Aug. 22, 2020 . . . Discovered the Royal River Park in Yarmouth, Maine based on a friends tip! Its a cute semi-historical park with a few perks for a relaxing picnic style day with family and/or friends. Easy to find off right #1 or I-295. Head toward rt. #115 or Main Street in Yarmouth, turn onto East Elm Street, look for a parking lot across from the Yarmouth Oral History Center. Or travel a little further on Main St. and turn onto School St. and park at school or tennis courts. Walk toward the woods, end of tennis courts to pick up gravel road to trail/sidewalk by the river. Its an asphlat sidewalk, about half mile long end to end. What a nice place for a gathering of friends and family. Lots of open grass, trees for some shade, picnic tables, with several little paths toward the falls and river. There are some Park benches of a sturdy weather-proof construction donated by several families. I noticed one bench donated on behalf of an L.L. Bean founder.I only noticed one potortable potty, should be more, but only noticed ONE !The park itself contains some fascinating relics or archaeological remains of a time over 200 years ago. You wont find much about the original inhabitants . . . Native American Wabanaki. English settlers moved into this area in 1674. After several failed attempts, a permanent settlement was established in 1715 near what was called the Westcustogo River ( by the Indians). This area is now called the Royal River, which included 4 water falls, ideal for generating water power. Yarmouth expanded in size and population to include grain mills, lumber, paper mills, iron foundries, later a shoe factory, poultry processing, and shipbuilding at the mouth of the river with a natural harbor. Yarmouth started with about 1,000 people in the early 1700s and remained at 2 to 3 thousand people until 1980s . . . Now over 8,000 people call Yarmouth their home.Do pack up your lunch, drinks, and corn hole boards for an old fashioned picnic at Royal River Park.Note: There is a small pavillion with 2 or 3 picnic tables available, and theres a brick 25 foot round stage area for some performances? I did notice electrical outlets for music equipment or lights?
Nice, clean, fairly short paved walking/bike path alongside a river with waterfall and well manicured lawns, with picnic tables, within an old factory (pulp mill) grounds; plaques are located along the route explaining the history of the surroundings with a dam located at the end of the path where the old cotton mill building still stands, since converted, but well kept. Brisk walking & stopping to read the plaques, and admire the busywork of a beaver, the entire area was covered in an hour. Parking is at a school with playing fields and basketball court adjacent to it.
Beautiful and peaceful. Well maintained park with clean utilities and grounds
Love this park, very nice trail to walk on with your dog. Has doggie bags and trash cans for them available throughout the park. You can occasionally catch a look at some wildlife too like ducks, squirrels and even the occasional beaver.
One of the only trials around that is stroller friendly. Really cool history and the park is very well maintained with plenty of parking, benches and picture table. Really cool little water falls and you can even go fishing.
Good fishing if youre into that, access points for canoes/kayaks, even a small swimming area. I spend a lot of my lunch breaks here.
Wonderful park near the river. Great for a walk or just relaxing
A nicely curated walk and easily accessible to everyone and anybody. Theres a separate spot where dogs are allowed off-leash. However its not fenced off.
Lovely walk by the river with lots of history to explore.
Beautiful park. Very peaceful. Plenty of picnic tables and park benches. Good fishing!
Beautiful Park in the remains of an old brick Mill along the side of the Royal River. Outstanding!
So peaceful and a great place to fish and watch small animals like chipmunks and squirrels.
A nice place to take your dog for a walk. Be mindful of the off-leash hours in the main park because animal control has been known to hand out tickets.
So pretty, clean amd family friendly
Nice place for a short walk. Not too much to see but the river walk is beautiful.
Beautiful restoration of land from what had been industrialized New England mills on the river. Dogs welcome! Trails well maintained. Grab a kayak for a different view of the park and ride down to the harbour.
This was a nice park to stop at on our way North! Has picnic tables to eat at and a path down to the falls. We saw someone come in with a swimsuit and towel but we never found a place to swim
This is a nice place to walk by the river and have a picnic in the summer.
Cute little park! Wish there were more trails for walking but the waterfalls and dams are peaceful and pleasant for a short little walk around sunset.Always clean, pleasant company.
Nice park with plenty of space. Seems to be maintained regularly. The river gives you a place to cool off on a hot day, but dont expect full swimming. Its more of a place to wade in or let the kids splash around.
EXCELLENT for kids learning bicycle riding, walking, wheelchair accessible, pet friendly, great place to meet people with outdoor interests.
A fantastic place for a scenic walk along the river

Plates for short walks with overlooks of the royal River
Beautiful
Great park with easy paved walkways. Off leash area for dogs, and several scenic falls created by dams.
Great kayak launch. If it was less steep it would be perfect. Also for the falls there doesnt seem to be a warning sign. Otherwise, I highly recommend.
Good place to take a nap and enjoy nature.
Beautiful paved walking path through the woods along the royal river leading ry o open fields with picnic tables.
Took a paddle-boarding tour here through LL Beans Outdoor Discovery. Both guides were knowledgeable and friendly! Would recommend.
Got baptized their was an amazing spot to just watch the water and relax.

I was heading down south and googled some dog parks and accidentally found this one!! lol I had in fact googled it...but didnt realize til i got there. I appreciate the excellent review I read prior to entering. It was a beautiful place to walk my dog. also a great family place. I highly recommend it to anyone. the river rushing creates peace for even just an individual with no dog or kids... we really need more of these places for dogs tho...such an non-dog friendly world these days.
