Its been about 4 years now that I have been visiting the YVM and I have never been dissatisfied. Each time I bring my children and they find each experience do pleasing that they ask to come again (We share that want). The museum for them is about discovery and seeing if they favorite pieces are still their. For me its getting a closer look at some of the permanent pieces and enjoying the special exhibits that vary from trip to trip.In the museum you will find an abundance of valley culture and history as well as some broader figures/events from Washington state. Some are recent yo the century while others are quite prehistoric. You will find that the young will love to look and be eager for the next while the rest of us are willing to linger. The kids favorite place is the underground play area equipped with a live turtle, mini library, and a very nice dressup/pretend town. Mine favorite happens to be Phil Koosers art. There is always a helpful at the desk during hours to assist with inquiries about the exhibits and the building (there is quite a bit of event space or conference areas). Located next to a park, swim pool, and adjoined to an ice cream parlor, if you plan your day right you can spend it quite productively.Love this place. Bought a membership, cheap, it will pay itself off in a few visits. Even if it doesnt, that is money well spent. Come enjoy a lovely museum!
Great place to spend a few hours! Nice exhibits. Handicap accessible with wheelchair ramp entrance and elevator. Very well maintained.
I’m here to share 5G tower locations in Yakima. It affects our oxygen absorption, iron, iodine, hemoglobin, thyroid, nervous system, & respiratory system. This is where some of them are. 1 tower is off of Hillcrest & Riverview. 2 of the towers are off of Tieton right beside the hospital. 1 tower off of Ashtabula Road near S. 74th Avenue. 1 tower is beside Isabella road. 1 tower is off of Postma road near Grant way.
Very good museum! The exhibits were well laid out. You can learn a lot of the history of Yakima Valley. The section concerning Japanese immigrants was wonderful, it showed the struggles of starting a homestead, then having to be relocated to Heart Mountain Relocation Center during WWII, then trying to return to their lives after the war.
Took my better 1/2 to see an old movie here. It was great and a lot of fun.
It had been a long time since I had come in. It has really become a great museum and I was impressed with it from start to finish.
I went twice with job corps, and learned a lot each time. This is a cool place to explore!
Kids love the underground. Occupues them for an hours for $15.
Always like to visit the museum..so many fascinating displays and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable!!
Great time seeing the displays AND the 30+ Christmas trees.
I had an amazing visit! The museum is beautiful and the staff was very friendly!
Is a good place to visit
Great place. Lots of unique art and very friendly staff
A gem of a museum jam packed with interesting information well presented and researched.
Nice place. Park there for the kids to run or adults to relax. Pool open seasonal.
This is a really cool place lot of old neat stuff
Lots of good information, very nice displays and some very historical information, the section in the special exhibits went over the horrible atrocities that the Japanese American people went through in America before, during, and after WWII. It will not be an exhibit that I soon forget. Aside from this exhibit, they have many historic carriages, and some very interesting older vehicles. If you would like to learn more about the Yakima valley, this is a great place to start.
I like it. You can take great pictures here.
A very nice place to visit and people were very nice there was no wait two floors of artifacts and stuff like that Siri
Good historical overview of Yakimas history. Lovely museum and displays.
Wonderful museum right in the middle of Yakima. Ome of the better museums in the state!
Fantastic displays done with hard, hard work Im sure. Im so surprised there wasnt a railroad exhibit -- the Northern Pacific played a big role in the Yakima Valley. There is so much history around the depot and railroad and about how the railroad currently serves the valley.
Fun for any age. Literally!!
It is very amazing to see the size of this place and the amount of displays they have...very cool
We love the childrens underground. Its a great place to visit on Wednesday for story time at 10. Its also nice for a playdate when its raining or too hot outside.
Its worth seeing at least once. The basement is cool for kids to play around.
Educational, fun and interesting displays!
Really enjoyed this museum. Got a good overview the areas geology, native culture and agricultural history. Especially enjoyed the small, but excellent exhibits of indigenous textiles and ceramics. Also enjoyed seeing the old carriages, stagecoaches and work wagons. Very helpful staff and volunteers. Hope to return and spend more time!
Fun little museum
Perhaps driven by low expectations - it is in Yakima - this museum was ultimately a pleasant surprise. While the facility currently feels a little disjointed; awkward layout, missing descriptions, and some jumbled artifacts, it also delivers a truly thought-provoking exhibit on Japanese-American (Nisei) history in the valley, a nifty carriage exhibit, and a truly impressive gun collection. A corner exhibit offers visitors an interactive, attic discovery experience. Along with the City, over time this museum will continue to refine and define itself. Worth investigation.
Really good museum. Worth the fee and all the time spent there. Also liked the ice cream shop.
Very cool place, they have a fun reading hour for children on weds mornings with a supercool play area that takes kids back in time, a total must see for familys
Nice place to visit ! Good people...
Great place for kids. Dont forget to take them to the basement.
A neat place to see some local Yakima history.I regularly tell people about the original Baby Jogger they have on display there. Also lots of other interesting local history.
We bought a membership so wed have a fun A/C place to go with the kids this summer besides the library. They didnt tell us the museums Underground kid area was closed all summer for day camps. The museum is great, but we wasted our summer fun money on a place that is closed to the public most of the day.
Local history featured. Beautiful building. Short-term exhibits. Ice cream shop downstairs, but not open on Sundays. Plenty of parking. Swimming pool nearby.
My mom and husband came over from seattle and we wanted to find something to do on a rainy day. We spent 3 hours there and it was well worth the 5.00 we spent.!!
Cool place to take the kids
Learning more about local history is awesome
I admit, cant be impartial, love this place
Incredible museum in Yakima with something to interest everyone. Kid friendly Adult friendly easy to understand exhibits with information so well explained I comprehended facts more throughly than before.
This is a wonderful museum and community center for central Washington. It has lots of exhibits to keep young and old interested.
Love learning about our history in the valley!
Really impressed with the Yakima Valley Museum. It has improved drastically over the years!
Awesome small museum in our city. Nice facility and folks working there. Also great Hall for rent, inside. Nice, nice.
Great museum.
So much to learn and see. This is a good place to visit even if you dont like museums, you will like this one.
New displays were great!
A nice place to reflect on Yakimas history. I would definitely go again.
My entire group got in for a pretty great rate, but that was because they were getting ready for a Halloween party downstairs, and it was rather disruptive. The exhibits are great, and there is so much to learn! My son had a fun time playing in the hands on section of the museum, and afterwards we went to the on site soda fountain to have an ice cream sunday!
Could be better
Fun place to take the little ones. It felt tired.and dirty.
Good museum on the history of the Yakima region. Very good display on the Japanese community in the area and what happened to them during WWII. The bottom floor is a bit unorganized, but it doesnt detract from the interesting displays.
Really enjoyed this place with my ten year old son. Theyve added a lot since the last time we went.
What a great museum. So many exhibits Ill have to go back someday.
Great during this time of the year
