The road to enter is a beautiful, tree-lined drive, but for me that was where the beauty ended. Perhaps it was because of the recent hurricane or Covid, but the rest of the place seems sort of neglected and underwhelming. I had hoped to get some beautiful nature shots here, but I really only found a few things worthy of capturing.
Serene and calm nature reserve with well preserved trails, an education center, and rehabilitated animals that serve as ambassadors to the community. The gardens are stunning and full of native wildlife and plants, including local pollinators. Im so grateful to have stumbled upon this amazing little piece of nature.
Perfect for 3y.o. Granddaughter. Combines a little zoo experience with a nice hike & observation deck.
This little nature preserve is excellent. The hiking trails are short, very controlled, and partially handicap accessible which makes it a great place for people of all ages. The pond in the back has ducks, swans, fish, turtles and more that can all be seen from a nice little porch area set up off of one of the trails. The pens have a wide range of hawks, doves, and other birds and I like that the fences have openings so that robins, cardinals and other birds also join them. Inside is a nice little exhibit area with beautiful fish tanks and an information center. Overall its a beautiful place with a nice range of different trees, flowers, trails, and animals. The perfect place to spend a nice afternoon.
Nice area, beautifully maintained. Saw a lot of wild birds as well as those in the enclosures. Will be going again... soon!
Great little center. Fantastic for kids and adults that get overly excited over nature stuff, like myself. There are more animals to see in the warmer seasons but they have a few inside (the rabbits are the best ) theyre building a few new little habitats... Cant wait to see whats living there after theyre finished.
A beautiful hidden gem of Wyckoff. It is great for a picnic or a romantic walk around the lake. Kids would love the animals they have. They have a bald eagle and some hawks. They have deer and a fox and plenty of reptiles and fish. Those are just the animals in cages. I often see deer and birds in the wild as I walk around as well.
Lovely area . Saw about 20 deer while walking the woodland trail. Watched a lone swan chasing all the geese off the pond surface and back on shore.Walking the paved road there is a nice picnic area and a plethora of daffodils in bloom.
J.A. McFaul Environmental Center is a nature center and wildlife sanctuary featuring a pond with a few swans that are always on patrol, an herb garden, fantastic trails which take you through the properties beautiful wooded acreage, picnic sites, animal shelters, nature exhibits and much more. Its a very relaxing and educational family friendly environment. Its also very well taken care of and workers constantly upkeep this great property. I very frequently visit this awesome location with my father. Its become a special place I often visit and walk the trails. I love coming here. Its always truly a wonderful experience. Its a great place to pack a lunch or have a picnic with the family. Kids will love it as well.
I really like this place. Great for kids. They help a lot of animals. There is a cool little wooded section as well. That is where my friend Doug tried to kiss me. That was wackadoo. They also have a great Halloween display each year.
Nice setting. Not very crowded today.
Excellent! Well kept. Balance of trails, zoo, nature center, and sanctuary. Lots of places to sit on trails. Loads of benches. Easy parking. Peaceful and quiet...excellent!
Such a great, manageable place to go for a nature walk and see some animals close to home. The lookout is great, and there is a picnic area for lunching.
Tranquil gardens amazing park
Beautiful park, one of my favorites
Quiet and gorgeous spot, beautifully preserved and 100% free.
Beautiful nature center with museum and activities for children. Great for families and those who enjoy communing with nature.
Wonderful place for a walk or birdwatching. plenty of scenic sites, a wooded walk and neat. one thing i did not like is they have animals in cages and although some are hurt and need support, the snakes and reptiles seemed sad and wanting to run away
Its beautiful, peaceful, informative!!
Great family park so many things to see and do! Dont miss it if your in the area. Great also for running and walking.
I have always liked this place as a child, and now my children also enjoy it.
Easy, accessible and full of interesting moments any time of the year.
We love this place! The lawns are beautiful and open. The trails are maintained immaculately. No dogs allowed though.
It a great place to go you see cool animals and little kids learn about wildlife and the place is beautiful all year around.Has epic looks plants this place deserves five stars.
Very nice walking path.
Nice place, with small Zoo
So beautiful and peaceful
Great quiet park to relax or picnic. Small zoo area and some trails to walk on. If I could bring my dog it would be 5 stars.
Great place for kids. Would be nice to have more animals and guides to take kids around.
Always great for a quick visit with my toddler.
We love this for an afternoon out... combination of walking paths, observation areas, and enviro center. Center includes a tank with huge snapping turtle (fully enclosed) & large fish, as well as multiple tanks of reptiles/amphibians. Two birdwatching rooms with one way glass also have a variety of interesting amateur displays. Also houses a library with a random selection of books and collections: theres always a basket of shed snake skins here to touch and examine. Rehabbed animals often on view in nearby pens.Paths around the building & pond are smooth and have frequent benches for those who cant walk far.
Great place to take the kids. Lots of local species of mammals and reptiles. Tons of turtles in the pond on site. Free admission and a nice place to spend an afternoon.
Relatively nice park. The signage is a little unclear so if you don’t know your way around it can be confusing. Visiting this park would be much more pleasant if it was well maintained.
Always an experience! My family and I have been coming here since before I was born. Same magic for my son 38 years later.
As alaways a great place to be.
Havent seen it all yet, but if youre looking for a nice afternoon stroll, a low-key neighborhood trip, or want to see some of the nature thats around your everyday life, this is a great place to visit. Its got outdoor and indoor exhibits. Its a nature preserve for the nature around us.
Visited here for the first time for nature therapy and wasnt disappointed. Truly peaceful, immaculate grounds, nice staff in the centers building. Able to sit at a strategically placed bench along the trail and peacefully watch a deer for a half hour. Great place to center ones self and feel some inner peace. This is definitely my new favorite place to get away.
Big turtle! Beautiful scenery! Very peaceful.
A peaceful place to visit.
I really love it here. Its got great walking paths and its a good size for my young kids. We love to visit the animals inside the center.
I really love this place!
Beautiful and a great outdoor space. Easy walking trails. Local flora. A whitetail herd browses close to visitors. Indoor displays . Waterfowl, turtles and all sorts at the pond. Everyone loves it.
Beautiful park for walking. Need to fix the waterlogged area and will be perfect.
Still cold, the herb garden and other shrubs havent bloomed yet, but we still really enjoyed both the grounds and displays inside the main building with the animals. Great for families, lots of info... Great place for photos... we will be back when the weather is warmer for sure... glad we found it, and its only a few minutes up the highway from us.. if you live in Bergen County and havent been here with your significant others, families or kids... youre missing out.
Beautiful
Very beautiful, my daughter loved the animal exhibits
Beautiful but chilly day. Fun educational environment with plenty of happy children running around.
I wish theyd get rid of the zoo, but this is a wonderful slice of nature thats well preserved. Reminds me of the NYC Botanical Gardens on a smaller scale. Could use a few more signs labeling tree/plant types.
I used to ride my bicycle here when I was a kid.Took my own kids there when they were young. Now I go just because.Lovely nature trail.Interesting displays and educational center inside.Lots of botanical specimens and wildlife.Fun and educational.
Go at least eight times a year even in Winter Road is always clear for walking great place for families or individuals looking to see nature
Great local place for hiking. Trails are easy for kids of all ages. Plus, there are some animals for kids to see as well and picnic tables available.
Such a beautiful place to go all year round. Gorgeous walks and so peaceful
Beautiful, clean park. Great for nice walks and kids.
Great place to walk or jog. There is a large paved road to walk on as well as a nice and easy hiking path. Great place to bring the kids.
Always a good spot for a walk, good for small kids.
Just great for a quick trip with kids. Outdoor and indoor fun! Staff very nice.
Beautiful location and lovely spot for walks or a picnic.
Peaceful
Such a nice place for little ones
It was so breath taking. Really had a great time with my wife and 15 yr old son. We walked the trail and saw wild turkey and many deer. It was just so wonderful. I wish the state of NJ could keep this place up a little better.
Walkers’ paradise
Very friendly staff and beautiful place. There are picnic areas outside, but dont bring food into the museum part. Also dont get in there if you are afraid of snakes.
Great for kids. Nice walking trails.
Spent close to 3 hours indoor exhibit and walking nature trail...hard to get 8 year old granddaughter to leave.
Very nice, serene & natural place to enjoy a quiet stroll on fresh autumn day.
This place is perfect for bringing kids but there is one flaw when I came here with my family most of the animals were not there.
Beautiful connections to nature and walking trails
Walking the face mask on.
Always naturally peaceful and beautiful as usual, Staff are always friendly, knowledgeable and willing to answer questions about the grounds.
Always good for an afternoon adventure. Those with a biology background will appreciate. Nothing too advanced but a decent substitute for a larger museum.
Peaceful walk through nature. Great for a few hours with a family. It has a educational center as well.
Such a nice place to take a walk
Such a peaceful place to come for a walk! And great for kids too as they have a few animals...
Peaceful place to walk.
Great to walk around but it wasnt as exciting as I thought it would be.
My favorite place to go on a nice day. Love seeing the animals. Great place to go for a walk.
Really beautiful place for photoshoots, picnics, walks, etc. There are beautiful animals to look at like peacocks and foxes. Really nice place all around and well kept. The animal habitats could be larger, though.
Good place for quiet and solitude. Walking and jogging is popular here.
This is a fabulous place for a walk. It has a duck and goose pond, a nature trail with informative signs and some zoo exhibits with a foxes and snapping turtles. It was a pig farm, using garbage as food, just over 50 years ago
A wonderful family outdoor experience. Very educational.
Was nice for taking photos
My kids and I love this nature center!
Very nice place to bring the kids
Love this place! The animals are always well cared for, plenty of educational opportunities.
This is the go-to place of my family when we have only 2-3 hours on the weekend. They have small lake with ducks and geese, small zoo with fox, hawk, turtle, deer... Also trail is good for 30 minute walk.
Bring my grandson there. Loves the animal education
Great little park to visit, take a nice walk, and see interesting plants and animals.
Great place for kids. Great place for a nice walk or first date
Beautiful
The place is decent size and pretty clean and well maintained. The pond was dry and animals looked were a few and sad looking.
Great for kids
