Open Daily says the sign. Well, not today on a beautiful summer day. Nobody around. Nobody picked up the phone. We were looking forward to summer tubing, but the only sign of life was beer cans strewn all over the bandstand.
Woodbury Ski Area is a great place for first time skiers. They have a great rate for first timers that includes lift, rental and lesson for $75. The group lesson were great. We got a lot of individual attention because of the small group. There was no line at the lift all day on a Saturday.
Under new management since most of these reviews were written. Complete overhaul over the past couple seasons. If you are close its worth it. Ticket cost is appropriate, night skiing is now available. Compared to the two RIDGE hills in CT it is the steepest so adults can enjoy themselves when kids learn to ski. They have a six week learn to ski program that is unmatched in the area, both in price and instruction. Disregard any review 20 months or older. Close, cheap, friendly, SAFE. Fair food prices.
Buyer beware....this was a horrible experience...we drove 1 1/2 hours.....We arrived.....there were only 3 very small hills open for tubing....my neighbor has a bigger hill in their backyard.....We asked for our money back but they wouldnt refund us because we had preregistered...so before you even think about going here....ask the right questions like are all the tubing trails or skiing trails open...Today I only saw one slope open for skiing...that was also small. I would not recommend going here try the Berkshires or anywhere else.
It is a great little ski area to get time on the snow without driving to northern New England. They have state of the art snowmaking and grooming equipment, but keep in mind that they depend heavily on man-made snow given their geographic location. If you are expecting Sun Valley when you get there you will be disappointed, but if you have realistic expectations it is probably as good or better than most of the hills in CT short of taking a drive to Mohawk. Prices for lessons are very reasonable compared to what we have paid for our kids in places like Vermont. Staff are mostly local kids who work part time in the winter months.
Having visited this place few times for Snow Tubing, this place is Ok. Parking is coordinated, adequate and free. The rentals are bit pricey though, but overall a decent place for a short ski trip. If you are really into Skiing then there are better places to visit
Went with my kids and family from Florida.I dont know what all the fuss is about, we loved the place and the kids had fun, moms had fun, and staff was friendly! The beginner hills were the perfect sizes, and so were the ones across the street. Staff was there at the top of every hill, helping out the young ones. The only con was the crossing of the street was somewhat dangerous, but its only a couple seconds. As a parent, Id like some kind of Kid Crossing signs or something.Great experience! I reccomend it!
My sister and i had a GREAT time their.the workers made sure everyone was safe...they maintained the lines as fast as they could, so u could get your time worth..i meet one of the workers named Gino he was funny and very friendly..i would definitely do it again....You gotta try it out!!!
Horrible place. They have big safety issue. I went there and got my head and neck injuries. Their equipment is not safe at all. Government should close it for peoples live! The funny thing is when I went to Emergency Room, the nurse told me Woodbury Ski Area had a lot of accidents. Some people even fly across the fence on street!!!! It is really Horrible!!!! Please do something to protect people! BTW, they dont have snow on the ground, they only have hard ice!! Thats why I got hurt!
Woodbury Ski Area leads the way by opening early, and the conditions are excellent. With New Management, the emphasis is on Safety,Tubers have secure Tubing lanes with turns at the bottom, to safely slow down. The food in the Restaurant was excellent and the Chair-lift, gives access to a nice steep run. I was there Saturday December 13th, the sun was shining and the snow was excellent, wondering were all the skiers were.Ski-racers were training in gates, and the Boarders and Freestylers were jumping, sliding and spinning. What a day.
Went today, 3 runs open, website says 20, staff is clueless middle Eastern whos probably doing what the older white boss tells them to do, meanwhile hes taking pictures while a kid jumped lanes and was sent to the hospital, poorly maintained courses ( barely and banks and if there is, theyre more like 90° into a wall), absurdly over priced, down right dangerous, NOT FOR KIDS, sorry I took my family, feel guilty, read the reviews folks, this place is suicide, check NBC 30 too... Theyre currently being investigated by OSHA, if youre gonna go, have half a pint before hand, need that liquid courage and pain management... Needs some SERIOUS safety issues addressed, mainly the BANKS, hope they close
Best little place in the winter for fun family daily activities. And an awesome area for hiking in the spring & summer.
No Ski Patrol. Its a shame this potentially nice location is run by Rod Taylor. Tubing can be fun, go with low expectations.
My son like to snowboard here with the best person How teach him hi :)
Very nice place, clean and warm break room. My daughter had a good time on the tubing trails.
What a disappointing experience. We bought a google offer and ended up getting a refund due to our bad experience so I just cant believe they are still offering this place. We arrived on March 1st at 10am (meant to have been open since 9am) to ski only to be told the lift wouldnt be open until the owner came and an hour later we were told he might not turn up til 1pm.We should have known there was something amiss when checking the website as it lists the current ski weather conditions being for November 15th 2012. The lodge was freezing, the rentals were crazily expensive and the slopes were disappointing.
I live in Woodbury and desperately want this to be a good ski area. It is terrible, every bad review is true. Rental equipment is unsafe as it is not tuned, nor is it equipment made within the last ten years. Instructors are clueless as is the staff. Conditions are almost always poor and no one seems to care that you are getting robbed. I went a couple years ago and vowed to never return after having felt violated once spending so much on a lesson and equipment for my then 5 and 3 year old. Stay far away! Go to mohawk if you want a good experience for your family.
Went to Woodbury ski place today and it was terrible. I specifically called to see if it was open and told of course. I asked how the conditions were and the staff person told me she had no idea she wasnt across the street. It seems to me that if you are working at snow resort you should know the conditions. After I brought 6 kids at $32 plus rental for helmets another $10 they went over to the snow tubing park to find out only one trail was open--it was ridiculous. We paid a ton of money for one trail. We didnt even last one hour--boring. I asked the staff person on way out what time they closed the other trails, at first she didnt know but when pressed a bit more she said around 4:30-5:00. I told her she should have mentioned that to me as I was bringing 6 teenagers who were looking for some fun!! Staff completely clueless. Very disappointed since I drove and hour each way under the premise that the entire park was open and spent a ton of money for one trail. The bathrooms were disgusting and the walk ways around the building impassable. Its a law suit waiting to happen,Would not recommend to anyone!
THIS PLACE IS A DEATH TRAP DONT BRING YOUR KIDS. just google woodbury ski area accidents and you will understand. sadly i worked here for a season but i am not just a bitter ex employee this place really is as bad as people are saying. actually its much worse. people go to the hospital every day on weekends and holidays. the police are there every day because of theft, vandalism, car accidents in the parking lot and on the street and injuries from the unsafe conditions. the workers and their living conditions are all illegal. the owner is a tool just like everyone says and he will rip you off dont believe any prices or coupons that you see online. also dont believe the ski report there is only one ski lift ever but he advertises up to 8. he counts magic carpets for tubing and a rope tow as lifts. he will say 5 foot base when there is actually grass everywhere. he just wants your money.
I just brought a group of 90 adults for a snowtubing event. We had a phenomenal time there!I agree with some others that the service wasnt perfect -- I had to get through several dim-witted people on the phone before I spoke to someone who could answer a few simple questions. But the upside is the unbelievably amazing tubing.Unlike other places, such as Campgaw or Mountain Creek, the snowtubing here is not an afterthought by the resort creators. The runs have bumps, turns, jumps -- really exciting stuff -- and they have tubes for singles, doubles, even big tubes for large group. Plus, they were very chilled out, unlike other places that are very type A due to liability concerns and not as much fun. The let my group go out and have a good time, without subjecting us to the harrangueings of teenage workers on a power kick.My group had an amazing time and will definitely come back. It was worth the few extra bucks.
This review concerns a great day zip lining day @ woodbury ski.. from the day we purchased our christmas gift cards to using them this past weekend, the staff was most helpful guiding the group to a safe zip lining event,,,our group included children, grandchildren & 2 grandmothers ( who just observed !! )i would like to thank the the people who made this day a day to remember....they are nicole, daniel, stephanie, brandon, amber & milton... THANK YOU ...shirley brown
We paid $40 the kids had to walk down the hill because the tubes wouldnt go on the one slope open the hill my backyard is bigger than that so horrible experience never go back again would not refund anything so check out conditions before you pay
We went there with a 50% off Groupon and still dont feel its worth my time and $.This was a summer tubing and zipline ticket. I was hopping i would make a few rides to make it worth the unlimited ride ticket but the zipline was short + its take a long long time for each ride. mind you, each ride is a two way osculation like a pendulum on this wire until you come to a complete stop - that would kill a lot of time right there. Each time you want to ride on the line, you have to climb up a wooden tower like you are rock climbing. Its not like you have stairs that take you up there -- and zip you go down the hill.now the unlimited tubing did not push my adrenalin at all - lot long enough & not fast enough. I couldnt take it more than a couple of trips. There was one kid who fell off the tube and did a few somersaults it seems. I saw him being taken away by ambulance. The analysis was that he was not forced to sit in the tube, he was barely sitting on the tube, and with him weight -- off he went flying:: I wouldnt have sent him on the ride if he was not sitting correctly - not a good management, i suppose. No more summer activity at this place.I havent tried the food there: so no comments. But to be fair, i had to give a VGood review on that.
I have wanted to go zip lining for a while so when I saw a deal on Groupon which included zip lining, summer tubing, zorbing, and creek side swimming I jumped on it. Before beginning the hour long trip to get to the ski area i called to make sure my groupon would be accepted (it said reservation required) the phone rang 10 times before being answered. The man who answered it sounded like he had been woken up and when I asked if this was the Woodbury Ski Area he answered sure. Oooooook. We arrived and saw the ski area.... I think its fair to say that what we found was not what we expected. The entire area was severely under staffed. The staff members that were there included a handful of teenage boys and an older man. Most of the activities were unmanned, leaving guests to figure everything out for themselves. The zip lining (the reason my friend and I went in the first place) was more than disappointing. It was 1 unfinished line. You ride it out, then swing back to the middle of the line where you wait for someone to come with a ladder to get you down. For real, I couldnt make this stuff up...We decided not to zorb as it was understaffed, the staff that were there seemed to be figuring it out as they went, and we watched one zorb ball deflate midway down the hill...Over all this place was a total rip off. The whole thing was over priced, even factoring in the 50% discount we got by using our groupons. The man who checked us in told me they were trying to build their summer business... they will need to try A LOT harder! At least the parking was free!
Despite the kids size the prices are really ripping off. All the juniors prices apply for kids under 6 as well. we paid for our 3-years old and full ticket (almost 40$ per person) to accompany him on the magic carpet!! never again!! tubing is another story! they made prices so complicated so you need to ask questions to understand you are being fooled. dont waste your nerves and money! family unfriendly, kid unfriendly place!when we asked about such prices the answer was like if you go to okemo (vermont) you pay 80$.yes weve been to vermont, new hampshire, massachusetts, upstate new york, new jersey, pennsylvania... we never complained about ski resorts. price means good service. not in woodbury.
Service was extremely poor and the owner was unbelievably rude when we tried to use a groupon for tubing. Aside from walking out when we tried to voice a concern, he later told us how groupon customers are the worst guests. Unprofessional and unnecessarily rude to paying customers. I would recommend not using this resort under any circumstances.
Best instructors great little mountain
Website says open sign on property says for sale
Viking run was amazing!
Got to the place 1pm and it was closed.
I really love this, it is on the small side but none the less it is great.
