Simply the best technical instruction my 12 year old son has received. Joe does a fantastic job keeping my son engaged and working hard. My son comes out of every session with a smile and thinking how he can put to work the skills he learned in his upcoming games.

Top notch complex and program. My son has been training there over a year now and his play has improved dramatically. Fantastic staff and the synthetic ice and overhead projectors are awesome!!!My son is going into his second year as a Bantam player and has really come into his own both on and off the ice and a huge portion of that growth has to do with this program. Over the summer and fall I worked with Joe at Smart Light Sports and saw the results this season on the ice. From having a harder shot and better skating ability. Not only does Joe teach how to play on the ice but changes how you think. Joe teaches a mindset that changes how you think about the game. Coach Joe gets it done. My son has been receiving Lacrosse goalie training for the last 10 weeks and with noticeable improvement. My kids (13 & 15) participated in the Mental Toughness class with Joe. I was so impressed with the way he was able to get them thinking and talking about concepts that are pretty advanced ... self worth, identity, roles, planning, success, performance, etc. ... and how they are all interconnected. He tailored his approach to their different sports, life situations, etc., making it easy for them to relate to different ideas. I highly recommend this class - its a nice balance to other training opportunities offered at Smart Light Sports.

Coach Joe provides both great coaching and perspective to his training. He takes a bottom up approach to ensure my kids have the technical fundamentals they need to compete. Teaching these fundamentals first allows him to build to more advanced skills while fostering confidence in their ability. Joe takes a vested interest in each kid and is willing to confer with parents in candid conversations about his methods and player evaluations. Joe is a great resource and sounding board for a parent trying to navigate the youth sports landscape.

Coach Joe has been outstanding. He has an amazing ability to interact with the kids in a fun way while giving them hockey and life lessons that they actually pay attention to and remember. My son is at the mites level and has worked with Coach Joe on synthetic ice and at the rink, both of which he loves. On the synthetic ice, Coach Joe uses overhead lights and games that keep things fun while working carefully on the fundamentals of stick handling and shooting. Being off the ice feels much more relaxed to the kids and allows Joe to really get them to work on the fundamentals. At the rink there is more focus on skating and 1:1 play which really complements the synthetic ice work. It is amazing how quickly my son started using some of the skills Joe taught him in games and how quickly he has progressed. Thanks Coach Joe!

My ten year old daughter Eliot began training with Coach Joe Dellanno at Smart Light Sports about a month ago, and after half a dozen sessions, I could not be happier with her progress. Eliot’s lessons with Coach Joe have included a mix of both on-ice and synthetic ice training, both of which have been especially productive. Coach Joe maximizes each hour-long lesson with plenty of stick/skill work, utilizing overhead lighting projections at the synthetic ice rink with cues customized for each drill; my daughter – a technically strong skater but not an intuitive hockey player – has responded extremely well to this unique method of teaching, with positive results already manifesting themselves in her recent games. The on-ice training is equally beneficial with an emphasis placed by Coach Joe on applying each drill to actual in-game situations.Coach Joe is an excellent communicator who has taken a genuine interest in advancing not only Eliot’s physical hockey skills but also in nurturing her mental approach to playing competitive sports; this aspect of his lessons has really resonated with Eliot, as she now prepares for each league game with a different mentality and focus than she did prior to her training with Coach Joe. His coaching method is not one-size-fits-all but rather tailored specifically for Eliot based on both her skill set and personality. As a result, Eliot is especially motivated and seems more eager than ever to improve her game.Finally, and not to be discounted, I am very happy to report that Eliot truly enjoys each session with Coach Joe, always leaving her training with a smile on her face and already looking forward to her next session. Coach Joe has found the right balance between having FUN in the moment while nevertheless maintaining intensity and focus, a balance essential to successful sports training for children of all ages. Joe is a great coach and has a way of getting hockey knowledge in your head in a fun way. I came into SLS a good hockey player with a lot of skill, but lacked the knowledge. But, this was no problem! Coach joe helped me gain the knowledge that many coaches do not teach, and taught me the correct way to play the game in an effective manner.

Coach Joe does an outstanding job! I wish we had found him sooner. He has a unique method of working with the kids with his overhead projector creating visualizations for the kids on the ice. His methods really make a difference in the kids shooting and puck skills, as well as the mental part of the game with his unique insight on the philosophy of the game. I am a sophomore this year and i worked with joe on hockey from freshman year till now and i could tell my overall game got better by the first few practices . Coach Joe is one of the best coaches I have had. I recently just got back to playing hockey after 20yrs and he keeps improving my game every week. He explains what you are doing and shows you how to correct it. He will keep working with you and encouraging you and till you get it right. My 14 year old has been working with Coach Dellano for the past year for lacrosse. Although she had never played before, the training she received from him resulted in a pretty successful first season for her as she was already scoring and contributing to her team. My son has been taking lessons from Coach Joe. The improvement in the fundamentals of his hockey game have been very noticeable. For example, his shot has become much harder and more accurate. When I came to coach joe, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had talked to him before and seen what other players were doing in the rink. As my lessons started, it was sort of like relearning how to shoot. As time went on, I started noticing the changes in how I felt while shooting, as well as how my shot looked. I brought my 7 year old son down for a session with Coach Joe after seeing his business featured on the news. My son has high functioning Autism with some weak core muscles that make learning hockey a challenge even though he loves the sports and wants to do well at it.. OMG WOW!!! After spending the last almost 20 years around hockey as being wife to a player/coach and mom to a now teen who has played hockey since 4 years old I was completely blown away by Smart Light Sports. We wish we had discovered earlier that Joe isnt just a great goalie coach. It was apparent minutes into our first session that Joes coaching style and sports performance knowledge translates to any lacrosse position. Our daughters goals were to improve her left hand stick skills and her footwork to expand her offensive options. Joe immediately broke these broad goals into a series of drills that focused on fundamentals and transitioned seamlessly to the more diverse skills that she was looking to master. In addition to Joes ability to identify weaknesses and effectively communicate and illustrate how to improve, he never seems to separate the physical from the cognitive and emotional skills needed for success. Joe connects with the athlete and the parents. Knowledgeable, dynamic and honest!

Coach Joe truly understands the athletes on an individual basis and how to effectively communicate and motivate them. He currently coaches my daughter who is a lacrosse goalie. In a short few months, it has become extremely apparent to me and those who have watched my daughter play recently, just how much she has already learned from him. He inspires her to believe in herself and to stretch her capabilities while still keeping it fun.

Smart Light Sports is great for all hockey skill levels. My son started SLS as mite, (3 years into hockey for my son) and Joe was able to fix some basic fundamental his was doing incorrectly such holding his stick properly to other body and head positioning. The individual attention Joe is able to provide a skater is second to none and almost impossible to get in a large team environment or other specialized hockey skills program. The projected light programs Joe sets for your child session are great and challenging. Again, Joe takes the time to stop my son at any point in his training to correct and remind him what, how, and WHY he should be doing something a certain way. Coach Joe is the Man!!! My daughter took up Lacrosse her freshman year of high school out of nowhere. Asked around and I was directed to Joe from a friend who’s kids play club and they also use SLS for their goalies. I started going to smart light sports after my first season of being a lacrosse goalie (I was very bad). I changed my whole style and way I played for the good. I was tought a much simpler way to play while working hard and still having fun during the lessons. Now my game has improved so much I am getting offers from colleges. I first learned about Joe Dellano and SLS from a fellow PW Coach last year. Signed my 06 up this year. My son loves it, and he doesn’t love much. Coach Joe and his smart lights do a fantastic job of getting my son motivated to improve his game. Joe instructs in a way that really makes my son feel comfortable during his training sessions. Each session is custom tailored to my sons’ position and his abilities. We have tried camps and skills elsewhere but we have found a home at with Coach Joe and SLS!

Our son, Markus, started hockey training with Joe in the summer of 2015. At the time Markus definitely needed some work. He was an average 11 year old hockey player with the potential to be much better. He just needed some guidance, good coaching, and accountability. At the time Markus had some really bad skating habits that in all his years of hockey hadnt been addressed. He started working with Joe and little by little the improvement started. That improvement just keeps continuing as Markus has improved from AA player status to a AAA player status in one season. Joe is not only a good coach and role model for Markus, but he has become a friend. Joe goes above and beyond expectations. He follows up every lesson with a one on one conversation, an email, a voicemail, or a text. He is always giving Markus exercises or things to work on before his next lesson. He explains it all so that we can follow up at home as well. Markus is always looking forward to his lessons with Joe and as much work as it is, and as sweaty and exhausted he is at the end of his lesson, he ALWAYS has a smile on his face, and cant wait to come back.Aside from all of the hockey improvement we have seen with our son the biggest and most important improvement is his confidence level. It is amazing to watch Markus grow into a smart, confident young man on and off the ice. We would highly recommend Joe and SLS to anyone looking to improve their skills, knowledge and passion for their game!

Coach Joe and SLS are phenomenal. My son is a lacrosse goalie who came to Joe with passion (maybe a little too serious) and raw talent. In the time he has spent at SLS, his technique, footwork, and goalie IQ have increased exponentially. Additionally, he has taken more interest in school and just being a kid and having fun! Just the other day at a tournament at UMASS Amherst, he was talking about his technique and I asked if he was referring to protecting his knees and he said, Mom, really? Coach Joe and I fixed that a long time ago! It is amazing to watch your child grow so much from the sidelines, and to have not only a great coach, but a strong role model and someone who in genuinely interested in my sons success. Last note...the facility is awesome...my son loves going there!!

Coach Joe and his staff are amazing. My son learns so much at Smart light sports. My son plays hockey and he gets better and better with every visit at Smart Light Sports. Highly recommend it.

My 8 year old son recently started working with Joe and Andrea at SLS and he absolutely loves it. He is learning the game of hockey in a way that makes it fun and makes him think. He is learning things from positioning, to shooting, to skating with the smart lights sports technology and this technology teaches him in a way that no coach on the ice could teach him. I cannot be happier with Coach Joe & Coach Andrea. I started my son at 6 on skates and cant believe after only a few classses the difference.More importantly the love and respect they show my son makes a world of difference and you just dont find anymore. Our son Stephen started with Joe five years ago for lacrosse goalie training. Stephen has advanced fast under Joes hands on instruction. Thanks to Joe, Stephen is now playing elite status against high school and college competition.

My son first starting seeing Coach Joe a little over a year ago while he was in our towns mini-mites program. He loved to play hockey but he wanted instruction beyond what the town program offered. Although I was a lifelong fan of hockey I did not grow up playing it and knew very little about the right way to teach him.Then I learned about Joe through a friend of mine.At my son’s first lesson his eyes lit up at the visual displays that Joe would put on the ice. He commented that it was like being “in a video game” and as a visual learner he took to things very quickly. After only a lesson or two I could see the difference in his play and he went from a “middler” in the program to one of the better players.A couple of months later he tried out for the Mites program (he was the youngest player at the try out since they do things by birth year). Not only did he make a team, he became one of the top players on his team.Joe has helped my son with things that go beyond the ice -- he has helped him with goal setting (not just goal scoring!), nutrition help (it’s one thing if his parents say he needs to eat his veggies but another thing entirely when his coach tells him to!) and also gave us excellent advice on his hockey development.Fast forward to today – he tried out for two select/Tier 1 teams and received offers from both. I honestly believe this would have never happened without Coach Joe. In a little over a year, Joe has become someone whose friendship I value and whose advice I seek.Because USA Hockey does things by birth years rather than school grade my son will (almost always) be the youngest kid on the ice and because he has my genetics he will also be one of the smaller kids on the ice. Joe’s training has given him an advantage as well as the confidence he’ll need to compete with bigger kids. I can’t recommend him highly enough!

My daughter has been training at SLS this Summer. She recently participated in a couple of Summer tournaments and we witnessed noticeable improvement in both her shot and stickhandling skills. Thanks Joe!

We met Joe in January 2017 and our lives have not been the same since! My son Patrick is currently 11 years old and has Autism/ADHD. He learned how to skate a few years ago, but had difficulty with staying safe and following the rules. He loved to skate too fast, crash into the walls, and could not take the time to learn how to hold a hockey stick or hit a puck. Joe was able to engage with him and get him to learn how to have more self-control on the ice. The crashing stopped, he learned how to follow directions, and he was able to have a more functional experience on the ice. Joe is very animated and Patrick responds well to his instructions. He also has a keen instinct on how to get through to Patrick. He understands that with Autism, some days are easier than others. If Patrick is having a hard time and is not responding to something that worked the week prior, Joe will adjust the session and find a way to get through to him. He never gives up on him and genuinely wants Patrick to succeed and have fun. Patrick absolutely LOVES coming to SLS and talks about Joe several times each day! Joes coaching skills have shown us that there are many opportunities for children with special needs. Its amazing for us to see how Patrick has more self-control, can follow along with the drills, and actually pass a puck back and forth! We are forever grateful for everything that Joe has done for our family!!

Coach Joe is incredible after only three lessons my son was noticeably improved! His team coach asked if he had practiced all winter and he said no its coach Joe! A worthwhile investment.

If your player is looking to hone in on shooting technique, one ice strategies, stick handling or really any skills SLS is a great way to up,your game. Joe analyzed my players strength and areas that needed improvement . He then geared their workouts to improve on their weakness in a positive reinforcing way. Probably the best part but of SLS is my kids have fun and enjoy going to the workouts. They really love the disco lights and Tommy the toilet! I dont think they even realize they are learning and improving their skills, their just having fun! Its a great addition to your hockey program, definitely a fun, no,pressure learning environment.

My boys love coach Joe and Andrea. They say they are serious but fun. The coaches are efficient and get a lot done when the kids are on the ice. They have corrected mistakes that my kids have been making for years. The coaches have given the kids the confidence to do things on the ice they would never have done before. Joe is also helping with game IQ and really thinking about what they should be doing on the ice in different situations. The coaching does not just happen on the ice. After the session he talks about what they have done and why and how to be a good teammate. Cant say enough good things about the SLS team!

The coaches are really friendly and helpful. They have a great workout environment including many workout machines, an open grass area to run, and an enclosed area for lacrosse to practice.

Very educational of the sport and helped all of us get ready for the season tryouts. I recommend it.
