I have been visiting the museum and sculpture gardens for many years, introducing friends and family to its richness of culture. The director has maintained a high degree of quality both indoors and outdoors for the past seventeen years. If you have never been to the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens, let me recommend this artistic experience. If you have been, remember the gallery of guest artists is constantly changing.
We had such a great time here and I didnt have many expectations. The docent was such a great storyteller and kept us entertained whole we learned about how cool Polasek was. Def great for a weekend activity :)
It was an absolutely wonderful experience. I would encourage anyone coming to the area to check out the outside gardens and statues at this truly breathtaking museum. And, I mean it, it is simply beyond breathtaking. The museum docents are very very informative, and the grounds are just gorgeous. If you’re looking for the absolutely perfect afternoon retreat, this is definitely the place to go.
Im loathe to give any museum or garden less than 4 stars because I appreciate what they do. The sculptures were nice, everyone we encountered was kind and helpful. Bathrooms were clean. That being said, the museum and sculpture park would be nice to visit on a free day, or if you are a member of a botanical garden that offers reciprocal benefits, but otherwise, its not worth going out of your way or posting the entrance free for a family. Theres nothing much to interest children here, just FYI for those with kids. The grounds are lovely, but you can easily visit the entire area in an hour. Would be a great spot for pictures or a wedding, but if youre looking for a family activity you might be disappointed. Im glad we got to visit, but Im also glad it was free!
We visited Saturday for the Lay of the Land exhibit part of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association. The Art was true to the people that it represents, a window into the heart and soul of Florida. A treasure of history in the life of a cowboy in Florida. The Polasek Foundation has done an incredible work in making an American Bohemian’s life of art alive for our future. Our Docent was one of the most enthusiastic and took care to make sure we were engaged in the world of Albin Polasek. The grounds were spectacular and framed the art and the heart of the Artists. The lake provided a peacefulness in connecting us to the moment and space. What a sense of living we shared on our visit.
The tour guide was knowledgeable and clearly interested in the information he shared. It made for a fascinating visit to the museum. And of course we enjoyed the artwork.
Had an amazing time here! I got to see all of albums work and more art by different artists. The place was very well kept, the staff were friendly and they have a super friendly wandering cat. What more can you ask for?? Art and cats in a tranquil place
Much better than indicated by website. The curator gives a very enthusiastic and detailed tour. The gardens are fabulously well-kept, with excellent specimens not seen at reciprocal gardens.
Very lovely place and very knowledgeable staff. Beautiful garden, very peaceful.
The outside gardens and statues at this museum are breathtaking. The museum docents are very informative. The grounds are truly lovely and it’s a perfect afternoon out! Try grabbing a bite to eat on Park Avenue!
It was a wonderful experience and I would love to go again, being there and seeing the beauty of art is amazing.
Great gardens with sculptures.
Took my son here the other day fir a walk in the gardens. It is included in our membership to the Harry P Leu gardens, son entry was free instead of $5.They have beautiful sculptures, paintings and other art pieces to view.
It is a beautiful tribute to an artist my husband and I were unfamiliar with. The tour is very informative and everyone who works there are very pleasant, friendly and helpful. They are also well informed and appear to enjoy their work. The art is very beautiful and well worth the visit.
A smaller estate but very interesting. Plan on being there to take the house tour and the visit will take approximately two hours. The people at this property really do care. They believe in the artist and what he created. The gardens in themselves are lovely and a pleasant stroll which encourages you to walk on the grass and with a picnic area. The house has several wonderful pieces contained within it and the tour was informative. The temporary exhibit space is great, and there was a terrific collection of Polynesian artifacts on my visit.
Such a gem. I ordered his biography. Plan to spend longer than you think in the museum. Fascinating man. Amazing artist. Our Docent tour by Petra was wonderful. Do see the 15 minute video also. Bringing a picnic and enjoying the lake view at their picnic tables is a relaxing way to spend some time. We saw a bunny while we ate our lunch! My 13 yr old found a huge owl pellet by the dock to bring home and dissect!
Lovely museum, the art and history is fantastic. The garden and grounds are amazing.
Lovely art museum near Park Avenue. I loved all the history and learning the story about how the museum was created. There is a lovely lake and places to have a picnic behind the museum buildings. The historic house and the grounds can be rented out for weddings.
A small sculpture garden with beautiful view of the lake. They host events such as weddings and parties also.
Unique place on the lake shore.
Very beautiful garden and museum. Nice are where you can bring a picnic. A hidden gem in Winter Park.
Beautiful venue and great current exhibit!
The first thing I loved about this place was the welcoming received by Maria! Beauty abounds with a friendly and warm atmosphere...theres a lot of art and culture packed into five acres with a variety of events.
Very interesting hidden jewel. The gardens alone were worth the trip
This place is lovely. If you’ve never been, I would definitely recommend going on one of the tours. We toured with Denise, she was very knowledgeable, sweet, and hilarious (we forgot to fill out an evaluation form for her, so we loved you Denise! You were awesome!). She toured inside his yellow house & his chapel. Otherwise, you’d really just be walking around his backyard that’s filled with sculptures (not knocking this, just saying the tour makes an amazing first time experience!). The tour adds a lot of time & you get to see things that are off limits if you weren’t on the tour. Albin’s story is so inspiring & makes his artworks that much more incredible. They also invite people to have picnics in the backyard. So bring some lunch & have a fun afternoon!
The Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens are a great place to visit and explore in the Orlando area.I especially recommend the guided tour: while its rather lengthy, the woman who showed us around Polaseks studio and home crafted such an engaging narrative that even our 7-year-old son was interested and attentive the entire time.As an added bonus, members of the nearby Leu Gardens receive reciprocal admission.
Very nice art and different artifacts but also very dark inside some areas. Very rich history behind each individual item.
Lovely small home studio turned museum. Nice grounds and sculpture garden.
As a whole this is a really cool place and worth a trip, make sure you take the tour as the guide is extremely knowledgeable. The only reason I took off 1 star I because it cost $28 for 2 people to enter yet half the grounds were closed off due to a private event that was not disclosed/advertised and the front desk person could have cared less when I asked brought it up. Besides that, it was a good time and interesting.
This is a great place to enjoy and walk around to see all the beautiful art. Very lovely place.
Nice gardens and beautiful sculptures. The guided tour is a must! Very informative and interesting.
Attended a wedding her in the evening, did not spend a load of time in the building. Spent more time in the gardens. Very nice place.
Very beautiful and interesting museum, loved the experience.
Beautiful place for a wedding. Scenery was GORGEOUS . Staff was AMAZING.
Amazing sculptures and a beautiful garden by the lake. We also attended the tour about the house and history of the museum, definitely recomend it!
Small but interesting, its a very tranquil place to enjoy mostly religious sculptures and a variety of garden life.
This museum was a new find for me. I found it online searching for a place to write my Art class paper on. Reading reviews it peeked my interest and they were right in that it has beautiful art and sculptures are wonderful. I really enjoyed my visit and I stayed longer than I thought. They were having a Cattlemens exhibit that included a view of the clothing that went with the theme. Wonderful time!
I personally love this sculpture garden and their museum. We went back today to enjoy the museum. We signed up for the free museum tour with a curator and she did a fantastic job explaining not just the life of Polasek and his art, but also other interesting facts related. The garden is one of my favorite spots, with those amazing sculptures in the park with views of the lake. It is small, yet enough for a couple hours visit, and enrich your senses. Highly recommend it
Small but good for families
Beautiful sculptures, beautiful gardens! House tour was the best part as you really get a feel for who the sculptor was. Docent was really well informed and enthusiastic. Enjoyed this very much.
A wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Nice museum. Lots of statues
Excellent art exhibits. Currently the show is Tongue and Cheek. Who cant use a bit of humor in their life?
Beautiful and classy off the beaten path. Nice art shows!
Im a wedding company owner and we simply love the Polasak Museum/Capen house for our bridal couples. They are very proffesional coupled with the love of Art and the environment make it the perfect venue to have a beautiful wedding..
Such a lovely place to soak in some very lovely art and culture, as well as history!
Wonderful grounds and museum. Docent available. Byron the landscape director is also an artist. Finding the entrance is tricky, so slow down, as you get near to the Albin. Aloha
Beautiful flowers and sensational place to enjoy.
This sculptor is tremendous. He had carved granite, relief sculpture, bronze, clay, made sex castings. If you have an inkling for fine art, sculpture, and painting SEE this exhibit.
Didnt know anything about this artist but the staff at his home was able to give us a lot of information. She was very patient with us because we asked A LOT of questions. Our groupon allowed 2 ppl to view the property/museum for 7 dollars.
Very nice small museum especially the lovely outdoor sculpture garden. The price was reasonable and we enjoyed the Florida cowboy display complete with saddles an vintage cowboy embellished shirts.
This is small museum, but very nice and inviting. Many of the artworks are outside statues in a lovely garden that sits on a peaceful lake. I hesitate to give 5 only to its size but I highly recommend it and there is also a your. Go by and enjoy the art culture, dont forget to bring a camera.
AMAZING museum Breathtaking art work A must see when in Central Fl
This museum is not only full of history, but it is also a wonderful place to spend the day. After walking the gardens and viewing the artwork, I took the tour and realized there was so much more to experience here. If you go to visit, make sure you go on the tour, Albin Polasek was an incredible person and the story of his life is as incredible as his work.
Fantastic venue for our daughters wedding reception!
Wonderful afternoon of beauty
Nice gardens, museum and historical house.
A hidden gem, worth the trip.
Wonderful museum and garden. Always has great exhibits
Had a fabulous time at the annual Paint Out Garden Party. Great food and drinks and a fun time meeting artist and guests.
Gorgeous location and facility. Great for parties or other private events. We had our work holiday party here and it was awesome.
Best docent tour ever!
Nice venue!!
Good experience. It was interesting to learn about this famous artist who lived in Winter Park and see his sculptures. Tour around the house was kind of interesting, however I found the video totally unnecessary.Overall, recommend this place if you quickly want to check out the nice garden in the back and Polaseks pieces.
Loved watercolors. He was an amazing man artist.
Excelent tour guide, she is fun and very informative so make sure you take the tour, which is about 45 minute long, then enjoy the beautiful gardens.
Interesting place. The grounds are lovely and well maintained. It was nice to take the tour and have a person explain what we were seeing. Its always cool to see where the artist worked and lived.
Beautiful.
Amazing place!
Interesting exhibit on art/paintings of Floridas cattle industry. Some sculpture in need of repair.
Small and interesting garden. You may want to do the tour inside the house so check for the hours that are done. Also they have temporally exhibitions, so new thinks to se from time to time.
What a surprise! Worth the time to visit
What a lovely way to spend an afternoon
The place exudes creative energy. My favorite place to go in Winter Park.
Very good place to see lots of artwork, outdoor plants and beautiful scenery.
Its amazing and informative. . . Take your time viewing the art work, the grounds and wait for the tour.
Absolutely beautiful gardens outside. Spent so much time outside we didnt have time to tour inside. We will definitely go back. Amazing sculptur.
This place is a hidden gem that I didnt even know existed! They had a beautiful interior art gallery compromised of local artists that change out frequently. Their exterior is a beautifuly landscaped sculpture garden that takes your breath away. The prices are really good and they have a Groupon Currently so Id recommend looking into that. Great date idea
Great place for a romantic picnic. Affordable and great service
Really nice place to spend some time. Then winter park is just around the. Inter for a nice lunch and stroll in downtown. Staff at the museum were grand. Well worth the few bucks to get in.
Traveling exhibit whets your appetite for art, then listen to stories about this world-class sculptor while examining his handiwork. It will take your breath away. Great views in the garden are a bonus.
Very impressed. Overall experience was very informative and enjoyable.
Its an interesting array of art work and sculptures to say the least. If you want to wonder the rooms of what people used to think what mansions were like in Old Winter Park while looking at art, go for it. Its also a great date place.
For $ 5.00 You tour the home and grounds of Albin Polasek. Beautiful gardens out back. Great for picnics with awesome views of Winter Park Lakes. Pretty for weddings as well.
Great place to spend a few hours and take in some culture!
Superb sculptures, peaceful garden
Small exhibit. Only 2 indoor rooms. Other house and chapel only able to be seen if no private event and if you catch a docent led tour. We did not catch one. Was told at door that we could see entire gardens even though a wedding was in the house. We were on the dock and were walking back up a pathway and a Polasek staff person woman with a sun umbrella that was working FOR Polasek for the wedding came and yelled at us for crossing the barricade sign (private party). We never crossed a barricade sign. The sign was put up after we already were further down the path and on the dock. We would not have been able to cross the sign with our in laws as they would not be able to climb around it. We told her the sign was not up when we entered that area and she insisted we crossed it and was mad at us. I apologized even though it was not our fault and she continued to act accusatory (so much for getting to see all the gardens like they promised when we paid our $23 to get in.) We walked away and then heard her yelling at another couple who were behind us for the same thing. They told here the sign was not there when they entered the path to the dock either and she did not believe them and was very very rude to them. They were visually very upset by her treatment. Our visit ended abruptly and was no more than 15 minutes long. I would have given the tiny 2 room museum and pretty garden 3 stars if it were not for the staff person ruining our visit. (only 3 stars because of such limitations during weddings, special events and overall size of exhibit.) I also would have appreciated an honest answer about whether we would get to see the entire garden BEFORE I paid the admission for 5 people. I would have come back another day instead of paying for a partial visit. I am a retired museum curator/director and would be appalled if I knew a representative of the museum was treating guests like this. She should be relieved of working with people. First and last visit for us on May 15, 2016.
Not only are the museum and gardens free, but you’ll also find a scattering around the grounds of artists creating new works.
Beautiful museum and statue garden a Mn d a great tour as well. Definitely worth a visit
Interesting but not worth the money
Tours here are awesome! So much history in this home, and the inspiring story of Albin Polasek is a staple that you shouldnt miss when visiting Winter Park. His utilitarian studio is occupied by pieces of art that are anything but, creating a beautiful dichotomy.
The house tour and the gardens were all very nice and beautiful. It was great learning about Albin Polasche and his life story. We arent a family who goes to many museums but this one was very beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful sculptures! Album polaseks faith shows greatly in his Catholic dedicated pieces. Truly magnificent
Wonderful little museum. The sculpture garden is lovely.
This place was paradise after Disney. Very relaxing and naturally beautiful. The view of the lake was very peaceful.
Wonderful museum! Surprised his work is not much more well known.
I have driven by this place countless times and always thought, I need to go check that place out one day. I finally did. Fortunately my family and I got in free with our Leu Gardens membership. We did not do a tour of the home. In the gallery there was a display of paintings, carvings, basket weaving and beadwork from Micronesia. There are restrooms in this main gallery building. We were interested in seeing the sculptures of Albin Polasek in the garden. The garden is very nice, overlooking Lake Osceola with sculptures dotted around the property. There is a dock you can walk out on. Be careful if you have young children with you, because they could easily fall in the lake from this dock. The sculptures in the garden are beautiful. There are picnic tables, so plan ahead and bring your lunch on a nice weather day. The only complaint I have and the reason I didnt give 5 stars is that you can see everything here in 30 minutes or less, without doing the home tour. We will have to return one day to go on the home tour. If you have a membership to Leu Gardens, you can get in free here, so take advantage of that.
An interesting history of retirement, devistation, and perseverance. If you go and learn the story and see the art, you will be enriched.
