This is a delightful place to spend an hour or two. There are a remarkable number of railroad artifacts ranging from railroad repair equipment to the china used in dining cars (each line had its own design!). There are five rooms, including one large room with very well-planned and informative exhibits. Educational--and fun for all of the family, especially if you love trains.
Really Cute...Lots of tools, pictures, memorabilia, books and onboard artifacts...its interesting. Reading the informational signs is key. A lot packed in to three rooms...one being somewhat larger than the other two. Set in a quaint, pretty, well kept section of historical Winter Garden. Plan on an hour-two and bring your reading glasses.
One of the many hidden gems in downtown Winter Garden. I’ve been taking my kids here since they were born. 7 years later and they still get excited to visit. Excellent displays and even a little kids area. Lots of memorabilia and tchotchkes from the glory days of railroad as well. My grandfather worked for Pullman and this place has helped me and his grandkids connect with some of the stories he told.
The museum has a wealth of information. We were there to see/hear Danny Harmon give a presentation on railroad video photography. He was wonderful. I learned a lot.
This is the place to checkout if you want to see some railroad artifacts I was impressed of all the items they had there only thing missing was a train ride around Winter Garden. Overall its a great place to visit if you are into historic or vintage railroads. Staff was very informative and they even sell some items there as well. Recommend if you are in the Winter Garden area to check this place out as well as the Heritage Historic Museum a few blocks over downtown lot of rich history in this town.
Great museum. Bigger than I thought it would be. So much packed in and very obscure items too. There is a kids Thomas the Tank engine table too.
Very friendly staff and interesting pieces of memorabilia. Would recommend
Who knew that the relatively small town of Winter Garden FL would harbor a remarkable collection of Florida railroad memorabilia, as well as a fair amount of material from other places around the US? Yet here it is in the Central Florida Railroad Museum. Its an eclectic mix of exhibits, some of it photos, some of it printed materials, some of it equipment. There is a lot of tableware from the dining cars of various lines. This museum has wound up the repository for some private collections as well as things from railroads that operated in the area. Its open most afternoons and admission is free, but donations are welcome. Well worth a trip if you are in the area. The Melts on Main Street restaurant is just around the corner if the fine china brings on an appetite.
I just came from Central Florida Railroad Museum, and I had a blast there. Yes, it is rather small, but there is no end to the knowledge that you get. I had a tour guide named David Rhea( I think), he offered a 30 minute private tour, and it’s free, and he was very knowledgeable guy and a cut-up. They found the perfect man for this job. They have some excellent collections of old RR artifacts, and the story about where the RR China came from is very cool (who knew) . I highly recommend this as one of your stops while here. I spent about a hour and a half there. The little town of Winter Park seems pretty nice too. I didn’t stop at any shops, but there is restaurants and shops all over there town center, only a couple hundred feet from this place. Enjoy! I did.
My nephew loves trains he was so happy visiting hereWe had a hard time getting him to leave
Very interesting little railroad museum. Lots of local railroad exhibits and lore.
Great RR museum to take the grandsons on a Saturday afternoon. Then walk over to the yellow cabose & downtown Winter Garden. They loved it !
Nice place packed with nostalgia. Plus they have a wooden train table set up with trains and thomas the train toy trains. My 4 yr old loves visiting. It doesnt exactly have a gift shop but they do have items for sale. Its just off the main rd in downtown winter garden, blink and you will miss it.
Very interesting collection of local railroad memorabilia. If you are passionate about trains and interested in the role they played in Central Floridas development you will enjoy this place. Winter Garden makes for a great day trip. This is a cute local stop for history and rail buffs. Volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Neat little museum in Winter Park, FL with interactive exhibits of the transit and communication history of Central Florida in the early and middle 1900s. Admission is free, and there is another (free) museum nearby. The museum is in a neat area with lots of shops and things to do.
A neat little place to look at everything related to the history of railroads. It’s small but it’s neat. The workers are very knowledgeable and helpful.
The museum is clearly very interesting it seems to be run on contributions and volunteers. The museum is loaded with items the museum would benefit from being a larger building. Of course this could be developed to create an impressive tourist attraction for the Winter Garden and Central Florida. There seems to be a considerable amount of land available to build. In addition it may be viable to get some track laid and get some old locomotives carriages etc even a miniature railway for the children could be a big crowd puller. To achieve this I suggest donations from railway operators state and Disney (this could be an additional reason for people to visit the area and ultimately visit the various parks. Not to mention that it would demonstrate their intention to be good neighbours to the local community). If a large enough piece of land is available it could be developed into an international display of railway items.
Nice little museum. Lots of interesting items and lots of history. Very friendly knowledgeable staff ready and happy to talk to you. Best of all, free admission with donations welcomed.
Nice family friendly museum, they have a working model railroads and a small table with wooden trains for the little ones, they also have carried train related paraphernalia!

Enjoyed looking at the railroad things.
Great place for families... kids love it...
Amazing atmosphere - this small railway Museum, packed from wall to wall with railway artefacts. Extraordinary photographs of the people who forged the railway through Florida’s 1800’s difficult terrain of mosquito and alligator infested swamps! Maybe one day there will be a train standing at the platform....maybe one day. The gentleman who looked after the museum was so interesting full of stories and information, he really took you back in time to thoses days of forging through the wilderness. Along with the extensive and absolutely wonderful railway fixtures and fittings of external railway parts, model railway and interior restaurant dinning crockery and cutlery, plates depicting George Washington which really gave you the atmosphere of the railway back then. Next time we are in Florida we would love to come back for another visit. I bought a really nicely made railway drivers stripy hat, which my husband will wear with pride in England. Thank you very much for a wonderful visit. King Regards Colin and Rae Gilderthorp, Torquay, Devonshire, England.
Kids enjoyed it. My son wants to do their map hunt next time!
I love it and so does my son. Its free too, though the hours of 1 to 5 make it a little hard to visit during the week.
Has a lot of one of a kind artifacts and a huge library. Make sure to check out the caboose and all the lights outside.
Great little museum. Plan for 1-2 hrs to see it all.
