Amazing things to learn and see here. Dunham Hall was my favorite. The family and their friends that work there are very friendly, and can answer any question you have about Windams history. I enjoyed my visit there (we go every Fall). Subscribe to their YouTube channel too, I learn so much from each video I watch.
Just like the sign says be bold amp
This local museum, located in Willimantic Connecticut, is a gem. All out of town visitors and residents should come here at least once. There are a variety of permanent and changing exhibits located in the two buildings on the premises. The museum staff are extremely knowledgeable, not only of the textile history of the town, but also of the whole town history in general. This is a great place to visit for adults and children alike. There are many events throughout the year that activity engage the diverse community.
Very rich in history. Every one should check this place out at least once if you live in the area.
I went for the Halloween event they were doing and was definitely not disappointed. While not super scary or creepy the stories they told were very interesting and historically accurate. The only negative thing I have to say was it seemed like it was over way too quickly, I guess thats the sign of a good event.
My children and I loved it second year around cant wait till next year great job everyone
Bev was very informative and friendly. Helped me tremendously with my project I was writing on the textile industry
Such a great museum. I was really impressed with Nightmare on Main 2019!
A nice small museum showcasing the towns textile industry. Great docents, very interesting displays, be sure to see machinery in second building too. Highly recommended, great for kids.
An honor to have worked here...great place to experience windham history
What a wonderful place, great gift shop and upstairs the museum is full of artifacts and set up as if you could live there.
I took my three kids here and they loved it. While the physical address is on Union Street, the parking lot is on Main Street. The main Entrance is facing Main Street. Upon walking in, you are in the little shop. The counter is where you pay for admission. $7 adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for students aged 10 & older, and group rate is $4. Keep in mind that there is a minimum $20 for use of a credit card.It is a small museum, but it certainly is worth going. There are displays in the lower level. At the time of our visit, the staff were pulling the displays down to get the Christmas theme up and they are expecting Santa to make his visits on the weekends starting in December. After paying, the staff member will provide you with a booklet for your self-guided tour. The second floor showcases both the tenement housing and manager housing replicas, both of which you can enter and view the contents of the home (see my pictures). Each room has a detail card that you can read for further explanation. All of the items are antiques on display some of which have been donated by local families. Also on the second floor is the office and a collection of sewing machines through the industrial revolution years. As you go up to the third floor, there are pictures and art lining the staircase walls. The third floor is a research center where there are books, maps, and pictures dating back to the early 1900s, which you can look through upon sign in.In the building next door, is a replica of the machines found in a textile mill (see pictures).
Christmas shopping@ the gift shop. ALWAYS interesting things! Plus theres a craft/artisan sale in the Dugan building. You should go.
This museum is fairly small, but does angood job of telling the history of the textile industry in Connecticut. The main museum has standard exhibits about the lives of millions workers and mill owners. The second building has all the machines, which are very cool. Totally worth the trip. There is even a research room above the museum with all sorts of info on mill operations.
Theydid Nightmare on Main they were terrific. They made a awesome display.
Much to see and do here, reccomend for buffs of Willimantic Ct textile mills and Trains...
