The Kansas aviation museum is an awesome place to visit. Its 100% self-guided tour but you can make reservations to have a tour guide. They also do dinners and rent the place out as a wedding venue and what not. When you walk outside and stand under the B-52 that they have sitting there on a hard Stand you can completely understand why they were nicknamed the aluminum overcast. I cant wait to go back and see their women in flight exhibit once they get it finished. there is also an awesome kids area with flight simulators where they can sit in an actual airplane cockpit.

This place is AMAZING!! What a gem for aviation aficionados! We were a flight crew overnighting in ICT and decided to check the museum out on our layover. We had the BEST time! The self guided museum in an old terminal is the perfect back drop for a trip back in aviation time. Some really cool planes inside and out on the ramp too! Wish we could of gone inside the ones outside... The KIDS rooms was the most fun - we played on the simulators and climbed in and out of all the mock ups. Definitely recommend!!

We truly enjoyed the history and stories of aviation here in Wichita. This was actually something we didnt know about, after being here for 5 years. We have found Wichita to be a truly amazing and history rich town. There is so much to discover here in Wichita, and the Aviation museum was another little gem. Staff was very friendly and informative. This is definitely a place to see if you havent yet ... especially in the air capitol! Thanks to everyone at the museum for a fun experience.

Wonderful Art Deco Building with a relief mural of the Spirit of St. Louis above the Entry, airplane inspired wrought iron railings, even Craftsman style roof downspouts (not Gargoyles but still great). The 3 story inside Atrium is being restored to its original form and is comparable to New Yorks Ellis Island Center in style. Wichita is the Home of Rosie the Riveter and impressive exhibits inside are being developed to tell the inspiring stories of Women in Aviation History (especially Amelia Earhart, the brave women B-29 pilots of WWII, the Kansas business women that ran the companies that made the Aviation Capital of the World, and more). The Tuskegee exhibit is in-progress and will be another to look forward to. Of course there are Aircraft and also the Legacies of Wichita companies like Lear, Cessna, Beechcraft, Boeing, Swallow, Textron, and many others but this Museum is more than that. It will eventually tell the story of America with its spectrum of races, genders, & socioeconomic classes seized the opportunities that Aviation provided to make America the Worlds Leader ... and its traceable to Wichita. Its telling the Story of American Aviation from its Home of Wichita but more importantly its telling the Story of America being built by its many different peoples. Me and Amelia Earhart cant wait until its finished.

Going through the Kansas Aviation Museum was like being a time traveler. Beginning with Doc and all its amazing reconstruction one winds their way through a progression of airplanes ending out on the tarmac with newer representations of the industry. A person can take a self-guided tour but on hand are a number of pilots and professionals that are eager to answer all of your questions. Had we been able to gain entrance to the control tower it would have been a five-star visit.

This is a wonderful museum. Wichita is supposed to be the air capital of the world. Its a shame that no one has given enough money to restore this building in order to properly display what Wichita was based on. The planes on the tarmac are very cool and its always fun to go up to the tower. My fondest memories of this museum where when they had concerts with the B1 fly overs. I would highly recommend.

Wichitas place in aviation history is actually profound. This little out of the way museum in the citys original airport terminal goes a long way in celebrating that history. Amelia Earhart and Lindberg passed thru, but people named Cessna and Beech did all their manufacturing here, attracting a division of Boeing at one point. Half the B52s built for WWII came out of Wichita. You can also climb the 31 steps into old control tower and see McDonald Air Force terminal next door.

Awesome place, lots of aviation history to see. There was also a wedding being set up at the time when I was there. I really wanted to stay, but I guess that entry fee I paid up front didnt cover that wedding. Thats a shame, though. I was pretty hungry.I also saw a guy there in a black suit with white socks. That almost ruined the experience right there. My friend had to talk me out of demanding a refund.

An okay museum that could use some TLC. When you walk in, you wonder if anyone is actually here, as no one was at the front desk and the museum was empty. After waiting around at the front desk looking at stuff in their gift shop, a lady hurried out of an office across the way, and took my money for admission. Lets just say for $10, I was expecting more out of this museum, but it didnt deliver. Probably the best thing that this museum has going for it is the historical building that its housed in, as well as the vintage aircraft of defunct manufacturers that are on display. They had quite a few on display that I hadnt seen before, and plenty of good information on them. With that being said, with so many civil aviation aircraft manufacturers calling Wichita home, the museum sorely disappointed me in that aspect, as they just had a small corner dedicated to Cessna, and a couple local aircraft examples languishing outside. It would have been neat to have a wall of local aircraft or something to see everything that came out of Wichita.Speaking of languishing aircraft outside, all of the aircraft outside were in a sad state as all have been horribly weathered due to being out in the elements, the 737 was possibly once a gold color, but you cant tell anymore, and the other aircraft have parts falling of and informational print outs duct taped to the fuselage. Its really saddening to see the aircraft in that kind of condition.Overall, its definitely a small town museum with an okay inventory, but nothing worth making the detour for if it is out of your way.

I have visited the Kansas Aviation Museum several times over the last decade and it always improves with each visit. This was once one of the busiest airports in the nation. The architecture is special and the exhibits are great. Lot of fun for aviation enthusiasts. Kids will like the simulators and all the big aircraft on the tarmac. Dont miss this Wichita attraction!

Kansas Aviation Museum is a wonderful little museum created in the tower and administration building of an abandoned airbase. It highlights a large series of Cesna models built next door. As smaller number of Beachcraft models are also featured. The very complex radar system on the B-52 bomber was developed here and beautifully explained. A decommissioned B-52 is amongst many aircrafts on the grounds.

The old airport of awesome and the making/restoring process is really cool. The ceiling of the old airport has many cool symbols. Walking up to the planes is quite interesting, you can see in a couple of the planes partially, which is exciting! The kids room could have been really cool, but a lot of the simulators weren’t working while we were there. All of the history throughout the rooms were a bit dense and kind of hard to follow. I often felt lost what I was reading about in a given locations and why it was significant.

This used to be the Main Airport in Wichita. Many changes have taken place over the years. However, you just cant explain what it feels like to walk up to the Tower and see so much of Wichita, and they play the current Airport, (Eisenhower) in Wichita, the air traffic. They have so many planes to explore, some you can go inside of, others, you can view from the outside, but you still get this feeling of AWE!!!! They have a neat feature inside, a Flight Sim that is unlike anything you might have at home. This is something the younger children really love to get their hands on, and they are usually pretty good at it. You can even host events at this Museum. Please check it out.

The arrangement had changed outside, so nothing matched the map any more.Better outside signs for the planes would be good too (they are attached to each aircraft and sometimes hard to find). Was very kid friendly. They had specific rooms/section designed for kids of all ages including an indoor playground, planes to play in and, for older kids, several computer aircraft simulator/flight programs.Aviation enthusiasts will enjoy it all!
