My friend and I had a delicious mango go go vodka cocktail. Super outstanding. The juices were freshly made. I ordered a crab cake as an appetizer. Its the first time I see more crab than breading. Super delicious! The crab was flaky and fresh. The sauce that came with it complemented the cake very well. We each ordered a sandwich. I had the Chicken and she had the steak. I have no complaints. The servers were very attentive and even brought us a sample of the delicious aqua fresca. Great place for a delicious meal

The hype on this place is too high, good for a very very last resort. Came here because other places around had a long wait and Nixon had no wait. Mix drinks are not strong and food is eh, wish I could give this a 5 star, im a Whittier gal, I support the city 100% but it is what it is

I am giving Nixons five stars for a few reasons. I was impressed with how much they take care of their customers and how delicious their food was.1. Clear signs showing you where to go to get seated.2. Was promptly seated upon arrival.3. The patio area and outside are well shaded a nice breeze keeps you cool.4. Our waitress was very friendly and checked on is regularly. She was waiting all of the tables. She did great!5. We ordered the garlic shrimp as an appetizer and scallops and a petite filet for our main course. It was all delicious!!Our order was taming long but the waitress was very kind in telling us and gave us a side salad that was mouth watering delicious!!!We will most definitely be coming back to Nixons.

I call this superb place many times since I love the special atmosphere that is part of this restaurant. The crew is awfuly loving and skilfull. The service is pretty quick. I would not normally drive 2 hours into the quagmire of Orange County for dinner. No, normally this would be out of the question but The Nixon Steakhouse does not fit the definition of normal. Chef Katauji Tanabe’s creation is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.Yes, there are all the expected mainstays of Black Angus beef, a thick cut pork chop, even a towering old school double cheeseburger. But one does not get far into the starters on the menu before eyebrows raise on the faces of the “Ruth’s Chris” crowd. The crab cake, for example, is seated in a cardamom cream and topped by smoked trout row and an escabeche of cueritos (pickled pig skin), not your average steakhouse crab cake.I came knowing that Chef Tanabe would be there, a rarity given the time he spends hopping from his restaurants in New York City, Las Vegas, Chicago and California. But, if I am honest, it was one menu item, that drove me to drive—a confit half pig head, served flounder style eyelessly gazing up at its enamored patron.I started with “Abuela’s Corn Bread” with truffle honey butter. It was moist with embedded whole kernels and just the right balance of salty sweetness.As I tried to pace myself through the bread, Chef Tanabe emerged from the kitchen and joined me at the table just in time for the departure from a steakhouse classic, bone marrow. In this case, the molten marrow was topped by crab meat mingling with a shrimp-based XO sauce—an umami bomb! I ignored the toasts and savored every bite, literally down to the bone.One special of the day was irresistible—hamachi collar with huitlacoche glaze, salsa macha (made with Marcona almonds no less!), sweet and sour pickled chiles, and fresh watermelon radish. Tanabe’s composition was flawless, succulent, tangy, sweet, spicy and loaded with sticky, satisfying collagen.My server kindly delivered some shavings from the leg of Iberico ham in the center of the dining room. It is one of sevevral treats prepared table side including salads and a carajillo cart.Back to the pig’s head... out it came with a crisp golden skin on a bed of cilantro and dill- yes dill! After a quick photo opp, a trip to the kitchen, and basking under the broiler, the semi-skull returned to my table bare, its sweet white meat and skin transformed into a delectable mixture of soft, chewy, and crackling bites. When wrapped in paper thin, blue corn tortillas and dressed with piquant salsa verde and pickled vegetables, the result was stupefying. I mumbled ineloquent grunts and partial phrases like, “oh, the dill....” without finishing my thought. I think he got the gist.The menu displays a demure block of text encouraging the diner to inquire about the Umami Dime Bag. Let me save you the suspense... it is a tiny satchel of spices for dusting over your mound of heady shredded pork. Use it. Trust me.It isn’t every day that I get to dine with the Chef and especially not during a meal that so thoroughly exceeds my expectations. We discussed the dishes in great detail and I hung on every word, gathering shards of experience and immense knowledge. We intermittently talked about family and business, opportunities and challenges between moment of geeking out over fish sauce, bacalao, our favorite tongue recipes, and mutual admiration of smelt.When Chef Tanabe returned to the kitchen, he sent one last indulgence my way. Liz shook an ice cold carajillo, a boozy espresso cocktail, in a copper colored shaker and then torched two marshmallows to garnish the drink. I had no trouble staying alert on the drive back to San Diego.So, in my final assessment, The Nixon is decidedly traffic-worthy... from anywhere within the continental US. And, for all of you who routinely convene for trade shows in the food wasteland that is Anaheim, you are welcome.

Nice spot to have dinner or just relax and have a drink. I really enjoyed the setting of the place which made it nice and cozy. The staff were amazingly helpful and tentative in making sure we had everything we needed. The corn Esquite,calamari, and pork belly skewers were amazingly delicious. The dish that put it all together was the ceviche. It had a amazing delicious taste I had to order one. If you ever find your self in up town Whittier give this place a try.

I am not a foodie, so it takes a lot for me to rave about a place. This place is fantastic. I had the petite filet and my companion had the pork chop. The steak was cooked beautifully and had lots of flavor. The pork chop was an amazing experience. The flavor was out of the world. The table side salad and sides were equally flavorful. Total bill for appetizer salad for two, two entrees, two sides and alcohol was less than $150. I will definitely go back.

Pork chops are always delicious and tender here. My wife and I split a 3 lb porterhouse. Be prepared though because prices are very high. We dont mind splurging a little once in awhile. I guess my only complaint is that, for a classy upscale joint, they give you paper napkins! What the heck! Come on Nixon! Can we get some cloth napkins please! Even Northwoods Inn has cloth napkins!

I was introduced to this restaurant for the first time. The staff was awesome. The host smiled and greeted my girlfriend and I. We sat and our server was phenomenal...she knew everything on the menu..she gave recommendations on drinks..she knew the appetizers by heart.Between getting seated ..I was introduced to the owner..he had the ordasity to ask questions to my girlfriend that were rude..continued to walk away while on his phone. His staff should train him on being a professional. We will never go back there again. Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons is what I can give from the treatment that I got from his staff. The owner should learn some manners and know his place when it comes to knowing how to talk to women.

Or drinks.But.... after 8 it gets loud and becomes club like as they transition from steakhouse to club almost.Went for dinner with wife and they were nice enough to comp an appetizer that was amazing. But still.. we called first and they could have warned us about the noise. We would have tried earlier on a different day.

We went there and enjoyed their happy hour menu. The chicharones with honey dip were delicious. They had a flavor activator(lime) squeezed on top which balanced out the hard crunchy with saturated tender bits. The happy hour burger was a delicious double patty burger. I could not put it down even though I was beyond full.

Fantastic sandwich with interesting flavors at a location with excellent ambiance, attentive staff, and well-mixed drinks. The value for the price is really surprising. As a vegetarian, I sincerely enjoyed the Tempura Cauliflower sandwich- you wouldnt think a steak place would have such an awesome option. I would definitely return.
