Ive belonged to the Hill YMCA in Westminster for about a year and highly recommend it. Te facility features great workout equipment, friendly staff, and lots of great classes included in your monthly dues. Its particularly encouraging that guest/employee safety is at the top of their list. During the current pandemic the constant cleaning regime and social spacing procedures offer a sense of security while working out. The community outreach programs that are a core value of the YMCA is also something I believe in.There are cheaper gyms you can join, but I feel the Y offers the best value fiscally and socially.
Easily one of the best if not best gyms in the greater Sykesville/Eldersburg/Westminster area. Smaller than Ys Im used to, but every amenity is still available including a fantastic lap pool that is extremely clean. All COVID protocols are being met; members wear masks at all times and staff is quick to politely and privately ask anyone to continually make sure mask is on during exercise as well. Never had to deal with broken machines or equipment here either. Every staff member is extremely friendly. I come here 6 times a week and each day is a hit. After searching for a gym after a recent move, this is my home for sure.
The y has done their best to keep things sanitary and safe doing covid. I enjoy the variety of classes they offer during the morning and the women’s outdoor adventure club. They do need to being offering more evening and weekend classes for those who work.
Friendly staff who care about providing a place for our well being. They provide many forms of activity/exercise, allowing the best means of achieving personal goals.
Outstanding services Thanks.
Great facility. Friendly staff. Well kept equipment. Awesome pool. Family friendly.
Friendly and clean atmosphere. Equipment in great shape. Nice locker rooms.
Clean facility and friendly staff.
There are good people on staff! They are extremely nice.
I haven’t gone there in a while but when I did it was a fantastic experience and great staff too. Btw does it cost any money to go there and if so how much I’m thinking of coming back there!
Great staff, friendly and clean place. Love it.
This is a well kept facility with a great offering of classes.
Membership in the Y builds my body, mind and spirit. I joined to get my body in better shape. The Y is soooo much more than building (or rebuilding) the body. Lots and lots of social events, great classes, with outstanding instructors and participants. State of the art fitness equipment, plus so much more. The Y is one of the best investments I’ve made.
The Hill Y of Westminster staff are very friendly,And the facility is wonderful for working out.I especially love the pool.Join as soon as you can !!
Jen and shelly are great with kids they change there lives
Love going here so the kids can romp and socialize while I do yoga or workout in the fitness center. The staff is awesome, and the classes are really good.
I like that the Y has so many different fitness options. I enjoy taking classes and also being able to run and lift in the fitness center. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The fitness instructors are all well-versed in the classes they teach, and the trainers are very skilled in meeting the fitness needs of a wide variety of people. I havent missed a day since I joined!
The Y has a convenient location, a multitude of meaningful programs and equipment, and a friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Nice facility and plenty of helpful and kind staff. Love the gym, pool and the classes are great.
It’s a fun, friendly place!Clean, great staff, good assortment of classes if you can be there when they are running.Just wish it opened a little ( 1 hour) earlier and stayed opened later, ESPECIALLY on the weekends. But it’s still great and SUPER family friendly.
Everyone is always so friendly and it is so nice to enjoy the company. I like the water fitness class mid morning so I can get my chores done before class. After the class I can relax. Im 83 now and the exercise helps me to keep my balance and stamina.
I am currently taking a beginners swim class for adults. The instructor is very patient, kind and understanding! The environment is wonderful!
Helpful and friendly staff. Nice equipment .
Great place to introduce new sports or swimming to young kids.. once a week practices is perfect for our busy schedule.
My children love the programs provided here. We will definitely register for me activities.
Magnificent facilities, excellent staff, family atmosphere
Two stars go to nice pool and a couple of polite, helpful lifeguards. But facility clearly outdated and staff provides no meaningful, helpful communication with members (how ya doin on entry doesnt meet communication needs). Facility needs major renovation/addition. For ex., tiles around pool broken, mats around pool torn, shower area needs more floor mats to prevent falls. Floor in locker room usually dirty. Staff provides no meaningful communication--when womens locker room temperatures plunged to 60 degrees (or possibly below) and stayed there for more than a week, no information was put out re: source of problem, planned repairs, any efforts to ameliorate. Finally, someone put up a small space heater--it didnt help much. Simple things that could be done arent being done. For ex., yoga classes must meet in bare-floored room adjacent to hallway. Would be nice to have a roll-out carpet. In hallway, kids running by, parents yelling, Jeremy, get back here! workout enthusiasts discussing activities make it more difficult to achieve serenity needed for yoga. What staff could do is post a notice in the hall during classes, something like, Yoga in session. Please be respectful and keep noise level down. Not everyone would comply, of course, but some would.
I don’t leave many reviews but really wanted to share how great the Hill Y had been for our family, and especially our boys (ages 5 and 1). We’ve signed up for extras like swim lessons, basketball, and the sports days, all which are really reasonably priced - especially when compared with competitors in the area like Merritt (which we left for the Y).We love our swim instructor Ms. Yvonne. The ladies at the Stay and Play are always friendly and helpful. My little one loves to go in and get their attention. My oldest also is enrolled in the Chipmunks prek program in Finksburg, again very affordable for members and top-rate, integrated with county kindergarten expectations. Excellent teachers and director to work with and accommodating us mid-season.The new splash pad has been a great addition and my oldest is already excited for it to open again. If you make regular use of what the Y has to offer like we do, you get great value for the price. It’s truly a second home for us.
I loved the ladies at the front desk. They were helpful, and showed me around. The yoga and pool schedule was ok. It didnt match up well with my work schedule. I was disappointed with the Stay and Play for my daughter. They dont mix her formula or change diapers. And they are closed for a few hours midday. Not worth $90/month just the two of us.
My 7 year old girl loooooooooooves her first ballet class at the Y! Very affordable and convenient for parents!
Plenty to do at the Y! Family friendly with great camps!
A small but well-run YMCA. We have a family membership and benefit from both the discounted kids activities and the stay-and-play for the fitness center. We did a few youth camps last summer but plan on doing the entire summer this year.
Excellent place for working out and swimming. They also have outstanding staff thatll help you out with workouts and for any questions about fitness. Membership price is nice and worth it. Highly recommend this place if youre looking for a gym to workout, swim, or take any fitness classes, including self - defense training.
Everyone is friendly on the staff and helpfulThe facility is well maintained I always have availability to workout on equipment or in the pool . And have enjoyed a few classes which where included in my membershipAs well I am able to go to other YMCAs near meI am a happy recently joined memberThank you The Hill Y of Westminster
Pool isn’t freezing cold
Great staff, great facility, great instructors! So happy that I made the decision to join!
The Masters Swim class and coaches are phenominal!!!
One of the best kept secrets in Carroll!
I love this place they offer a lot of activities for kids and adults my daughter loves the swimming pool in her ballet lessons all of the staff are so helpful and friendly
My family and I have been attending this facility for more than 15 years, paying every $90 monthly bill (perfectly on time) and occasionally volunteering in various capacities. What was once a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere with spartan facilities has become a place that arbitrarily enforces subjective (and unwritten) rules that seem to grow in number with every visit, albeit now in a slightly updated and modestly better equipped facility. An example would be the fact that the showers now have hot water. That is not an exaggeration or sarcasm, just the truth.Lifeguards, day to day, are in no way on the same page, so to speak. What was permissible yesterday is forbidden today, and vice versa. Whoever is on guard duty at any given moment brings their own interpretations of what constitutes safe and is in keeping with Y policy. Members are left to guess how to navigate the whims of the (mostly) teenage children and very young adults who are hired to guard the pool.Items such as kick boards or aquatic bar floats that management leaves all around the deck in plain view and appear to be inviting only draw scolding reprimands if one attempts to use them in any setting other than an aquatics class that is on a schedule. For the entirety of my membership, I have incorporated laps (25 yards) into my routine which are entirely underwater, surfacing only at the ends of the pool. I am fit and this is in no way stressful or particularly taxing. Quite to the contrary, I find it very relaxing. For me, this has always been an invaluable part of my regimen and it has even helped me recover from sever trauma suffered 18 months ago when I broke 5 ribs and punctured a lung. I have been told that it now violates vague and subjective rules regarding long breath holding and that it is forbidden.THEY NOW PRESUME TO TELL ME HOW TO SWIM !! It is oppressive.**never mind that competitive swimmers now regularly swim the 50m with their face entirely in the water, never breathing even once. that is a distance more than twice that of a single lap in the pool at this Y facility**I retrieved a medicine ball (also another valuable part of my routine) from a room that is both an office and a storage room. I have also done this for the past 15+ years. Recently, I was admonished for that to such an extent that the lifeguard ceased to pay any attention at all to the swimmers in the pool - precisely the reason that Ive always retrieved the ball myself, so as not to distract the guard away from their primary duties.Make no mistake, there are plenty of wonderful people at this facility and I have been grateful for many years, however, I will not pretend that there has not been a serious erosion in the enjoyment of my experience of late. Its my experience and everything that Ive stated here is factual. It really saddens me and I wish that I were writing an entirely different review.
Great membership price, services, classes, amd customer service. Especially love the activtrax thing and the fact that they have drop in daycare for busy moms (and dads)!
Love this place!! Great classes, great machines, amazing people!!
