Great small museum that gives a good overall understanding of the Palm Beach area with historical perspective. Excellent docent.
The museum is a great place to learn about Palm Beach County. The latest temporary exhibit is highlighting Addison Mizner. The old courtroom is beautiful and you feel like youve stepped into a bygone era. The docents are knowledgeable. Its free! Treat yourself to a special and singular experience!
Suzanne was very helpful and encouraged me to listen in on the new guides presentations and walk throughs. The exhibits are lovely to look at and and definitely an historical treasure not only of local history and lore but an up close way to learn how life was lived in this area way back when. With free admission I would absolutely recommend a stroll through history here, questions are welcomed by the staff!!
Its a small museum made out of the old courthouse. They have really neat artifacts from Palm Beach Countys history and the building itself. Bonus: They still have the original tiles on the floor from 1916! Theres also a small gift shop and you can go upstairs to see the courtroom, which is still used for certain events today.
Amazingly well kept historic courthouse with all original tile work remaining on the floors! The incomparable woodwork on doors, around doorways and window casings was all stained a deep dark brown. A kind,. welcoming, knowledgeable woman who posses a gentle and friendly no voice welcomes all visitors with a smile. She offers to assist when the newest visitors are looking at the displays around the entrance and front hall. It is quite apparent she greatly enjoys her volunteer role and sharing her wealth of knowledge with everyone she can.

Beautiful building and nice collections on the history of PB county.. I was there for the Armed forces day. See pictures. Memorable. Lots of parking. The weekend is better as the streets are very quite and not much traffic.
Really cool free activity for kids!
It was the 1st time I had been in that courthouse since 1976, and the memories of that time were intense. Thank you for preserving a landmark.
Its clean and convenient and its Kool place you can hang out there
SandyJames conducts events here all the time. Awesome place to visit and the staff is very friendly!!
I love this little museum so much. To start with it is housed on the first floor of the Neoclassical 1916 Palm Beach Courthouse. Architectural features of the building include oak paneling, mosaic tile hallways, maple floors, and a two story courtroom with balcony and skylights. When it was built it was called the handsomest in Florida. Soon after it was built however it was forced to expand to meet the needs of the growing community. One expansion took place in 1927 but the worst one was a 5.5 million dollar wraparound that covered building in 1969. A new larger courthouse was built across the street in 1995. Preservationists then worked to restore this building and the first thing they removed was the wraparound. After many years a multi million dollar restoration of this building was completed in 2008 and the history museum opened. After you visit the museum be sure to explore the quaint courthouse. The balcony contains exhibits on Florida law and its history. The first floor history museum contains three galleries. The people gallery examines more than 100 people who made contributions to Palm Beach. Some of the exhibits focus on the Seminoles, pioneers, and business leaders in the community. The place gallery focuses on the animals and ecology of Palm Beach. I really enjoyed the Barefoot Mailman exhibit. The Barefoot Mailmen were US postal workers who delivered the mail in the 1850s by walking barefoot on the beach from Palm Beach to Miami. One of the mailmen mysteriously disappeared at the Hillsboro Lighthouse. There is also a gallery for temporary exhibits. The current one is Building Paradise: Addison Mizners Legacy. The exhibit explores architect Addison Mizner whose Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture can be seen throughout Palm Beach and Boca Raton. Its on display until June 29th.In addition to operating the museum the Historical Society also offers many events throughout the year which includes lectures and history tours. You can find a listing of their events on their website. Entrance is free to the museum and you can find meter parking outside. This museum is a historical treasure that everyone should visit and support.

Great museum in a restored century-old courthouse. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Formed in 1937. On March 15, 2008, they opened the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum on the second floor. The Museum finally solved the problem that had prevented the collection from fully serving its critical purpose: to share and showcase the rich history of Palm Beach County and the larger context of Florida’s heritage dating back at least 12,000 years.
Its amazing to see and read how palm beach was before my era.
