Nasty. Disrespectful. Stay away.Used their own online app to bid on some items during their May 2 auction because neither I nor anyone could go in person due to COVID-19. Auction house insisted on charging an additional 5% premium (on top of the 25% they already charge) for using their own online platform. To reiterate, this is their own App (not invaluable or Live Auctioneers). Rico Baca, the owner, instead of having a calm conversation, insisted in belittling me when I asked them to make a concession when I was ready to pay. He refused, told me “you’re not special” and that I should have submitted an absentee or a phone bid and ultimately hung up on me. It is strange to me that this business, which is not defined as an essential business, was able to conduct an auction during the PBC Emergency Order. Also, very strange that this auction house charges an additional 2.5% for using a credit card to pay when Florida Law, 501.0117 states, in part: Credit cards; transactions in which seller or lessor prohibited from imposing surcharge; penalty.— (1) A seller or lessor in a sales or lease transaction may not impose a surcharge on the buyer or lessee for electing to use a credit card in lieu of payment by cash, check, or similar means, if the seller or lessor accepts payment by credit card. A surcharge is any additional amount imposed at the time of a sale or lease transaction by the seller or lessor that increases the charge to the buyer or lessee for the privilege of using a credit card to make payment.

Be warned, Online Bidders and sellers, This company Modern Auctions are using a very poor antiquated online platform. The online system is not accurate. I was live bidding on an item and the bids did not go through even though I had a paddle number and was bidding. I was going to go more than twice its sold price. I have never had difficulty with Doyle, Christies, Brunk, Sothebys, Hindman, Stair, Grogan, Bidsquare etc. The extremely rude woman I spoke to on the phone did not care that I was going to pay more than twice what a floor bidder/winner bid. I asked for the owner, Rico and explained the situation to him. I thought he would want to know there was a fail on the part of his online platform and he was not concerned either. Extremely disappointing. I guess I need to stick with the large national auction houses.

We have always had a great experience whether consigning or buying. Rico and Wade run a top notch an honest auction house. Have been consigning since the beginning and have never been disappointed. I hate to leave a bad review but I have to warn other people about this place. Both my dear friend and I were scammed by this auctioneer and lost a big part of our retirement savings. Smashing selection of furniture and art. Very cool auction center run by genuine, honest, and enthusiastic employees. The prices are far less than retail so if youre interested in finding a cool modern piece of furniture for your home, you definitely should check them out.

Good merchandise, but dont use their shippers. They dont stand behind them. I was told they dont even know if their shippers are insured. Yet they recommend them. Just be careful.
