Recreation area is nice. There is an approximate 2 mile walk around the lake. At this time (covid-19), masks are requested too. When we went, there was a police man asking where peoples masks were, if they did not have themThere are various areas to sit around the lake and near the paddle boats. Paddleboats are available for rent.
Two big ice rinks and a food stand (not open right now). Shares parking with the zoo, public skates precovid are currently not offered. Lessons with coaches still possible for figure skating.
Great walk around the lake. They did a great job with this recreation area.
Great place and fun for the whole family! The parking is convenient as the arena is a part of the South Mountain complex, which includes Turtle Back Zoo. There is so much to do from the rink, to the zoo and of course, the mountain. Just be careful of when have occur, because then the rinks are not open to everyone. The phone system and website are also not well organized for finding hours. However, this is not much of a problem since there is so much to do in the area. Also the rates are low ( $9 for adults and $4 for skates).
SMRC has something for everyone of all ages and interests. Food, zoo, minigolf, zipline & ropes course, peddle-boats, playgrounds, hiking, jogging... or simply relaxing waterside with good company or a good book ! Sunrise or sunset yoga and meditation, picnics, special events and dramatic seasonal views in every direction. NJs best kept secret!
Its a great place to take your kids Ive skating.
Staff dont look enough after people who run opposite direction at not proper areas and cause risks to unexperienced people
Definitely enjoy skating here with the family during the open session. Comparable prices - when you bring your own skates. Friendly staff, excellent parking, and not too crowded. Definitely a gem here in Essex County!
For a fan, the ice rink here is fabulous. But for a player, the ice is uneven and slopes down toward the boards.
My kids had a blast. Perfect for little kids. A little tight for side by side double strollers in some areas but they do fit.
Parking witin the vicinity is limited on the weekend but is a short walk away.
Beautiful rink. Aint seen nothing like it. $9 public skating fee
Waiting in line under hot sun for 40mins to buy a ticket for the treetop is crazy. Staff selling tickets should be better organized. They are very slow.
Great learning facility
Ice skating at its best!
