I went pretty late at night and there were probably 20-30 people walking around and taking pictures. If you want to take pictures here just know there will definitely be people in the background.

A wonderful example of early Los Angeles experimental architecture, R. M. Schindlers home and studio is a modern, minimal, and heartwarming specimen that is both historic and yet futuristic at once. Its small, but worth the trip for any true lovers of Schindler, Wright, etc. or modernist Organic Architecture. From the tilt slab concrete to the redwood roof surrounded by beautiful courtyards and gardens right in the heart of West Hollywood, this is a place to appreciate the thoughtfulness and creativity exhibited in the tiniest of details, as well as the overall composition. Helpful docents and a cute little book/gift shop.

Place was not well kept or furnished and far too small to be worth the $10 admission

Taps really wonderful that a place like this has been preserved. Its in the neighborhood area without parking. Could just be an aesthetic choice but I found the Spartan simple almost crude architecture not particularly appealing. Perhaps this is a case of nostalgia that somethings old so we find it dear? It is neat to see this in living contrast to the large edifices that surround it in that midsize la apartment complex. Perhaps the contrast of the setting is as much interest as the architecture. still la which preserves little of its past it is to be commended that this is still here. Stop on by and make your own decision

This is a fascinating bit of architecture and history right in the middle of West Hollywood. If youve an interest in architecture and / or an interest in this history of Los Angeles then this place will be a real treat. The house and property is nicely hidden right in plain sight and thus makes for something of a find once youve visited it.Its offbeat and unique and can be taken in with just an hour or two - at most - spent. Which is well worth the experience.

A friend interested in architecture invited me to accompany him here. Knocked my socks off, we took the tour, what a nice sophisticated surprise in a tough trashy town.

Fascinating example of Bauhaus meets California indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Its also just really cool to walk around a Schindler house in the middle of West Hollywood. The building is in rough shape, and some exhibitions are so conceptual they are barely there.

Big thanks to the MAK center for their amazing work preserving and keeping alive the architecture of Rudolph Schindler. They have great exhibits to check out both in the Schindler house, Mackey apartments and the Fitzpatrick-Leland house

Step back into Bohemian 1920s LA, at the former home and studio of modernist masters Rudolf Schindler and Richard Neutra. They built this simple wood and cement complex when they worked for Frank Lloyd Wright on his textile block projects including Holkyhock House, Barnsdall Park. The very survival of this modern experiment in living, and apparently the morality of that time, is a miracle. At this very moment an atmospheric Hansel and Gretel house and bungalows is being razed across the street!

The Schindler House - one of the earliest and most important modernist homes built in Los Angeles - was full of wonderful revolutionary art spinning Disney on its head with a show entitled How to Read El Pato Pasqual: Disneys Latin America and Latin Americas Disney. I was in both art and architectural heaven. Great job!

Iconic doesnt begin to describe the Schindler House. Its a rare tucked away gem that should be on everyones list of architectural masterworks to see in person. Its right up there with the Villa Savoy, Johnsons Glass House and Falling Water.

Its a really twisted and interesting concept regarding Disney. The location is small but really appealing for those willing to open the third eye in their mind.

Very disappointed with my first and probably last visit to the MAK Center. Not only was I treated rudely, they just did not seem to care that I had drove 2 hours to be there when they opened. Wanted to visit the Social Pool and was told that there was not any keys. Only to stand by 20 min later and see them give a key and coordinates to another visitor that obviously was a Friend of the person at the front desk. I asked, and they still were very rude to me.I will make a point of letting anyone I know to not visit this place.Good Luck!

Hidden architecture gem! It would easier to understand the rooms with furniture but this way you can focus on the dynamics of wall and openings, interior space and the gardens.

If you ever heard of Frank Lloyd Wright and were ever curious of those he influenced you will come across one man in particular named Rudolf Schindler of Vienna who came to Chicago to work with Wright and learn his organic philosophies and in the process invent an entirely new genre of architecture that cannot be replicated to this day because no one is Rudolf Schindler. this is what i thought the whole time i was here today within each step i walked hand in hand in history and inside the home of the man i most admired and i wondered of the conversations i would have had with the man if i was in his time. ill tell you one thing, if youre feeling skittish, nervous, or hesitant in a career of architecture you wish to pursue, come to this place, to the home of a man who was hardly given the limelight he deserved and became only a real legend in the publics eyes several years after he died but still, he was granted immortality for believing in himself always, that his visions had to coexist with reality and that he didnt do it for his name to be famous but to live. this place is a national treasure to me and the same goes for Gregory Ain. the only problem i have with this place is one particular individual who was not sincere but snooty, if you encounter a man with a beard and glasses who appears to be kind at first but if you appear foolish, like you know nothing of Schindler he will judge you and be impolite. there were nice ladies there who respected their guests as Schindler would have but beware of this one and if you see him, give him kindness because i believe he needs it the most. thank you for the wonderful day friends of the Schindler House. i hope to see you all again soon!
