Beautiful park, nice camp sites (you can take your car right up to them). Pretty good distance away from other campers, has fire pits and sells 5 pieces of firewood for $5 and ice bags for $2. Amazing trails that really do a workout, and extremely clean bathrooms. Beach/swimming area is kind of small but it is nice for a little dip, not a lot of people at the beach when I went!

Good wooded area, with fantastic trails. Friendly staff and they have firewood and ice for CHEAP. The reason why I only gave 3 stars is I felt the campsites were a little too close together. If I farted our neighbors would smell it.

I visited the swimming area and stayed at the campground. The best sites are 86 through 96 with enough room for multiple vehicles and plenty of privacy. All the other sites are less private, less shaded. The Gypsy loop is near the parking lot with little to no shade.The beach is nice enough for children, but a little rough on terrain as its basically a hill covered in sand and going into the water. Small and silent boating would be good here. Didnt hike much as the day before there was a wind storm.

Black Rock State Park is a wonderful place for all ages. Theres a campground, a beach, changing rooms, rest rooms, and decent size pond that is stocked with trout. There is ample parking which includes handicap parking. There are also trails and a small pavilion. Definitely a fun day trip or even a quick picnic.

Take the hard trail up to the pinnacle overlook for a healthy workout rewarded with a fantastic view. *wear appropriate footwear. Rocky and slippery with leaves this time of year.

The campground wasn’t the most level for our popup but we liked the park’s trails near the lake. The bathroom closest to us was closed so we had to walk further to get to the other one. We really enjoyed the fire pit and wildlife near our campsite.

I got in love with this place! Very peaceful and so many things you can do from camping to fishing, swimming, hike, picnic or just relax anywhere and connect with nature. The only bad experience i had was that someone robe my cooler and other stuff. My only recommendation is to stay close to your belongings or keep it in your car. I could give a 5 but due to these situation only 4 .

Great place for camping. Ample trails.Location : Very conveniently located on the highway. Close by town is well equipped with camping essentials.Camp site: Sites are good and most are camping friendly. Site #14 has shade from tall trees and is best for hot summer days. Site #9 will be good for spring and fall because it will get Sun on the afternoon. Most sites can accommodate multiple tents along with cars. All camp sites have fire pits. I would classify the camp site as semi-private because you can see other camps around you but cannot hear them. Washrooms: Mens, Womens and one Family washwoom available with ample toilets and showers that are relatively clean. Showers have hot water. There is also a washing area for camping utensils.Trash cans are close to the camp ground. Also noticed a sheriffs car at night which is a big plus. Camp staff is very nice and hospitable. The camp gate closes at 10.00 pm.

First time here and I LOVE IT! Place is beautiful! They have a walking trail that is awesome. And little lake is clean and we had a wonderful time. Come and check it out!

You can see how many people are there in a glance at the parking lot. But there are so many different paths, you can easily keep your 6- 10 distance. Almost everyone wears masks and are respectful of pausing to pass in narrow areas(bridges). Fishing & golfing and many dogs all on leashes. Late aft & evening are esp empty times.

We spent a weekend here during the shoulder season as part of a larger road trip. All and all it is a pleasant park. It is geared towards families with a free swimming beach, access to trails and other features. Some of the sites are pretty well secluded and feature privacy and a wooded environment others are more open and less private, showers are free and there is quick access into nearby state land. A fun place to stop keep in mind no drinking or pets in the campground.

Another annual Memorial Day camping trip. Usually what makes these places have bad reviews is other campers that do not respect the rules and fellow campers. Quiet time is quiet time and keeping to the leave nothing behind mantra is very important to a positive camping experience.The facilities were as clean as can be expected, rangers patrolled often to keep things in order, but the one bummer was that the Leathermans Cave was impossible to find. We walked and walked and circled back and forth and just couldnt find it. THe directions provided were not very clear. Wish we were able to see that on this trip.

This place was a pleasant hidden gem. I had never been to this park before and now I will have to go back.They have a good sign indicating all the different trails, length of trail, starting and ending point. We enjoyed the hike up small mountain to a gorgeous scenic overlook and then stay there for a bit to have snack and drink.We look forward to going back to this park and exploring some of the other trails in both directions.We met many locals who visit this park all the time and also added some tips as to where to go and what to do while we were there.

Having gone during Covid times, I’m sure the park is a little bit different than what it normally is. It looks like when I went yesterday they had re-open camping. It is a nice park to go to during the day. They have a very large grassy area that kids can play in and they have a lot of nice trails. Some trails are even handicap assessable because they have fully paved trails but they also have some more rugged trails that are nice too. One of the trails runs along a nice babbling brook. There are also a lot of raspberry, blackberry, mugwort and witch hazel plants for people who are interested in foraging. It’s not the most beautiful park in Connecticut but it is nice.

Peaceful adventure. Nice place to go locally to get away for the day. Or even a couple hours.

Beautiful landscape but that’s all about it. The beach is filthy. Swimming area is tiny (max 4 ft of water) and prevents any social distancing. Crowd there is rowdy and rude with loud music, kids running on your towel. Staff spends time yelling at people. They went mad at a poor chap who went a little outside swim zone.

Not crowded. Lots of picnic tables. The water was clean and refreshing.

I love visiting Black Rock State Park with the dogs. I let them go swimming theyre after a hike to the top of the mountain. It gets Im pretty tired and when I bring them home they do nothing but sleep.

The park is nice but the campground can be noisy after quiet hours. Bathrooms are gross. Seems they just hose them down to clean them.

IVE NEVER BEEN ACTUALLY IN THE PARK UNTIL MY FRIEND TOOK ME TODAY!AND THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL!!!ILL DEFINITELY BE MAKING A LOT MORE VISITS, ESPECIALLY SINCE I LIVE ONLY 45MIN AWAY WALKING! (I WALK FAST )I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, RECOMMEND THIS PARK TO EVERYBODY!!!I LOVED IT, I GUARANTEE YOU WILL TOO!!!

Visited this place as a child and it is exactly the way I remember it. With stocked trout in the lake and plenty of parking for beachgoers and fishing, there is room for everyone to enjoy their choice of activities. There is a noce little campground as well as trails and picnic areas to enjoy.

Take the kids and go for a nice walk with plenty of shade. Plus, there arent alot of people out there either.

We went for a nice hiking and it was worth it. In top of the mountain was a great view. Love the river crossing were we hike. Beautiful landscaped.

Updated review again - once the loud campers left, it was really wonderful. I am changing my 1 star to a 3 star.Review update. WORST CAMPGROUND I am camping right now, and currently we are listening to another camps music. Its rap and its so loud we actually have to raise our voices to speak to each other while right next to one another. Not to mention they are screaming and swearing. The camp with the music is 2 large sites away. ALSO the campers next to us listened to music day and night, and were so obnoxiously loud, well into the late night (past midnight) despite the quiet after 10 pm rules and no amplified music rules. The park rangers didnt do a single thing about them. Not to mention that people were literally ripping trees down in the forest behind our site. This has completely ruined the trip for my family and I am utterly disgusted with how the staff doesnt care.(they just walk by on their patrol and dont say anything, but they did tell us to park somewhere else. Our car was parked on our site, just like literally everyone else.) I wish I could upload a video so you could HEAR the music right now. I wouldnt say this is a family campground, unless you never want your kids to sleep.At the very least, the trails are nice, as is the sceneryIts a nice place. Small pond, there is a beach. However, we decided to cancel our week long camping trip because of how other beach goers behaved. Loud thumping music playing, despite other people there.

Nice place. Good hiking trails. And lots of spots to fish. There is 2 parts of the park. The main one which is the other one and the back part which I was at. Nice to get out and see nature. Quiet and peaceful

It was beautiful. Very clean,very family orientated. Lots of trails for hiking. I recommend it to have a fun time and exercise. Oh yes lets not forget they also have a picnic area with grills.

I really love it here! Its comfortable, parking is easily accessible and there are a ton of picnic tables. I love that they have grills and a huge beach area! One of my favorite go-tos with the kids.

For when you want to hang out with family or friends outdoors, and even do some light hiking. Be ready to buy bug spray.

I was only there to check out my site b4 hand. It was horrible. I went to the desk to see if I can change. Kate was very nice and helpful. The map she gave helped a lot. I was able to change my site. Lets see what happens next week. Cant wait!!

Great place to take a hike. Trails are all clearly marked.

We have been coming here for years but will not be returning again. The cabin was filthy.There was a big group getting drunk and so loud you could here them across the campground. Rangers had to go there multiple times until the cops were finally called by them. We caught a Drunk guy sneaking around our cabin trying to hide from the rangers which just completely ruined our night.Its such a nice place, especially the trails but it needs to be better maintained and the guest need to be controlled better.
