Easy trail. I came from steam boat at the beginning of the levy and did the loop in the refuge back to the levy. Saw a deer, a rabbit, an osprey, a bittern, yellow bellied little birds and plenty of other birds. This is a must trek. I will visit this place again after 6am of course. The refuge doesnt open till 6am and close at 830pm. There are gates at the entrance so you cannot drive your car in till they open. Plenty of benches to have a sit on and a little bit of shade here and there. Mostly in the sun though. Only gnats and they werent too bad at the refuge. It is gravel on the walkways. Very peaceful and beautiful place.

CLOSED!Went here with my wife who has raved and raved about it. So while we were in town from Florida we figured we would go.Ended up turning around on hwy 14.Decided it looked like on the map there was a prk with a trail and thought we could walk that.Wrong, it’s closed from that side too. So 1 mile in, it was time to turn around. Again.Looking at reviews, it looks like it just closed and isn’t going to be done till 2022. Or who knows when...

Beautiful area for a fun family friendly day hike. Easy flat trails great for strollers. No running or bicycling allowed in this area. Connects to the Columbia River dike path. We saw turtles, Gardener snakes, and nutria.

Great place to stretch and get some fresh air. The trail goes back into the refuge quite a ways. The further back you go, the more quiet and peaceful it becomes. Theres lots of birds out here, and bird watchers who seemed very excited to find whatever they were looking for. We also saw deer way off in the distance.

We saw a heron, ducklings, blue jays, the black birds that have some red around their throats, and many other birds I dont know the names of. The walk is super easy, I think you could even take a person in a wheel chair, its a gravel path. They dont allow bikes or dogs though. If you have binoculars bring them as youll be able to see into marshes and such from many places along the trail. From May to October there is more of the trail open.

Be extra mindful of the park hours lol.. they are only open till 5:30 and the automatic gate will lock you in. Lol we got locked in ND had to call the Washougal police. They were very kind and laughed about it.The refuge is BEAUTIFUL. There were bald eagles and hawks and ducks, oh my lol exquisite trails leading back to the Columbia River. Informational signs of all the bird species there.

Absolutely beautiful. However to conserve it, plastic is used around to threes while they are growing. These plastic linings are never removed from the base of the trees. If you plan on taking pictures you will see a lot of plastic covered tree trunks.

Its a flat hike through the national Park and you could go on for however long you want. The trail continues beyond the wildlife park as a paved running trail. We saw plenty of birds. I only wish that the highway nearby wasnt so loud.

Nice place for a walk. You cant run, jog, or bike on this path till you get to the short stretch along cottonwood beach, which is a running/bike path. The loop is about 3 miles, and the walk is beautiful, peaceful, hear nothing but birds and bugs. I havent run into too many people till I get on the cottonwood path

Excellent place to bird watch at the edge of the Columbia River. There is plenty of parking and a primitive toilet that is usually open. Some interpretive signs will help you identify the wildlife that you see here.It is good to visit in any season. Most recently we saw ducks, geese, Eagles, and a pileated woodpecker. There are abundant amphibians, Insects and reptiles in the warmer months.Seasonally, some parts of the reserve are closed for nesting. Please respect the wildlife and allow them to have some peace during the months when these areas are closed.A bike and pedestrian path runs along the south edge of the reserve. This path will offer many miles of recreational enjoyment to walkers, runners, bicyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts. This is a wonderful place to enjoy the great outdoors without having to travel very far away from the city.

This is still a great place to go hunting bird but it has gone down hill because of budget cuts over the year. There used to be one place you could hear sounds of birds and some description and other information about the birds. For those who are photographers have to contend with many people walking in pairs talking. I have so many birds scared away by them. They just seem to be oblivious to who and what is around them. 2AUG15 I was there right at sunrise and got some very nice shots with lots of clouds, reflections off the water and the red sun in the mix. We saw other creatures and bugs worth talking about. If you want water flooded in mud flats make sure you check the tide tables for this area. This time of year all the paths that people are allowed on or open now. A few will be closed during migration and nesting.

Its super fun. But the people around can be very stuffy. They tend to forget that kids are here to enjoy the sites as well. And they talk and skip.

Nice enough for a walk on a pretty day. This refuge is undergoing restoration and is currently comprised of mostly invasive species. I was hoping for an example of diverse, native habitat but this site will need to come a long way before it becomes a great example of native wildlife habitat.
