If you are visiting Washington, DC and looking to visit some of their museums, then you have to add the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum to your list of tourist destinations. When visiting Washington, DC we decided to visit this museum. Firstly the entrance is free, but the amount of aircrafts and space crafts on display was mind blowing.I have never experienced a museum that has got so much to see and experience. This was definitely one of my highlights when touring Washington, DC - so add this to your list when visiting - you won’t regret it.
Visited here back in 1998 and loved it. I doubt there is any other aerospace collection with as many individually and historically important airframes under one roof.Lindberghs Spirit of St.Louis, the Wright Flyer, Chuck Yeagers Bell X-1 to name but a few. Enola Gay was displayed in part then but has since been reunited with its wings up the road at Dulles.Although much of it remains as I remember it, there appear (visiting their website) to have been some new exhibits added (747 forward fuse as an example). The museums location slap in the middle of DC on the Mall ensure great transport links and explain the high (not during Covid) footfall.Well laid out and airy with some truly amazing exhibits. I long to return and also take in the Annex out at Dulles.
Wow! Thats a common statement from visitors when they enter the National Air and Space Museum. It is a must-see destination in the region. The Boeing Aviation Hangar has nearly 200 aircraft on display. The Museum also has a restoration hangar with an overlook for watching the conservation work underway on a number of artifacts, which flew more missions than any other American plane during World War II.The museum also displays a complete history of aircraft invention by Wright Brothers. Can see some tools and items used by them in the course of their invention.
There are a few museums that intrigue the mind and this one definitely does a great job of keeping one hooked with its exhibits and presentation. Being in science, it was tough to not be able to get some basic answers but overall it was a great learning experience. Probably one of my most favourite museums of the national mall and definitely worth a visit no age limit whatsoever.
It takes you into an interesting world when visiting the Air and Space Museum; it has a beauty and fascination of its own. I would love to visit it again.
Coolest museum ever!!This is a great place for the kids you can spend hours here.We were trapped in the museum because of a storm and we didnt even noticed.
I went here with my family 14 years ago, but I still have fond memories of my visit. The airplanes and spacecrafts are amazing.
Wide open spaces packed full of interested information. This museum has something for everyone. Theres a childrens area that has tons of interactive activities, I didnt spend much time in there, but if I had a kiddo with me, I probably wouldnt leave that spot. The Wright Brothers area was so fascinating, I think I ready everything. Loved that the museum covered the history of flight all the way back to the bicycle. You cant miss all of the hanging planes, and take a minute to walk into the space shuttle. Dont skip this place. I will be back for another visit soon.
Went to this museum a few months ago but it is still one of the coolest museums I have been to. I really turned into a teenager when I entered this place. Loved learning the history of each aircraft. Get ready to spend about two hours if you love aviation.
A great museum.. i had so much fun here seeing the wright brothers plane, a piece of moon space suits.. so many things. I really enjoyed myself here. An amazing place with amazing collection of things. Its so good for kids. Although its quite big and we need to walk to cover the whole place but its definitely worth it..
Awesome experience, they have a ton of classic aircraft in pristine condition, SR-71 Blackbird, 707, The Concord and even the Space Shuttle. Admission is Free after 4P. This is a must see if your in the VA/DC area.
First of all anyone who remotely works at the Aerospace Industry must visit here! This place holds the origins of field of aerospace! The first plane in the world, the fastest plane in the world, the most expensive plane in the world and the most important planes of the world. This is an unbelievable museum that showcase so much history and I believe this Museum is indeed one of the greatest places on earth to study and get close to airplanes!
Went here with my students to visit time and navigation exhibit. Wonderful and large place with great features and machines. Once in he exhibit, a little hard to find things but overall visually amazing. Will definitely come back. FYI there are a lot of school groups here so keep track of your kids.
This place was awesome. I was able to walk around and see history of time, space and flight. From the Wright brothers to Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. Definitely a place to visit if youre in the area. The lines move decently. The place is hugh and you can easily get lost or lose a small child. As soon as you walk through the doors you will be amazed but the moon lander, the old planes and other displays. There is a lot of history in this building and its a lot to take in especially if you love history like me. Cant wait to come back to see what I may have missed.
If you are a fan of air and space this is definitely a place to visit! You can see the gliders with which the Wright brothers managed to fly and the suit that Neil Armstrong took to the moon. You get to see the Hubble Telescope and many more human achievements in space and in flying, like the Spirit of St. Louis. Your kids will love it, too and it’s free!
Excellent museum to visit with family and kids. This place offers free entrance and worth spending 3-4 hours to cover all exhibits though some are closed for renovation. Visited along with family and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s very informative and detailed. Don’t miss IMAX theater for good documentary films. It’s paid entrance and worth trying. The planetarium is another paid exhibit which is worth trying. There were limited / no food options inside and plan this post proper breakfast or lunch. The queues outside main entrance may look long but are fast moving. There is no open food or drink allowed inside. So remember to finish open food or drink before entering. Water is allowed still. Overall a very informative place worth spending couple of hours!
This museum was one of the best air and space museums I have seen. My son really likes aviation and it was a great place for him to learn more about the world of aviation and space. There was in depth information about almost every display with one of the best being the Wright Brothers display. We ended up spending about 5 hours, especially because we looked at each display in detail. I recommend this museum to anyone interested in knowing more about aviation and space!!!
After visiting several museums in Washington, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum was one of our favorites. What a beautiful, amazing, interesting and cool museum. From the minute you enter, it is overwhelming. Very nice decoration. It is ideal to visit with family. Everyone (all ages) will enjoy this place. We really loved the overall experience.
Very exciting with actual rockets, sate lites, exhibitions with in depth insights. History of Space and Flight Evolution.Kids space are amazing to experience how gravity and design structure the airplanes and space ships. Great learning experiences with tour guides. Very nice and creative museum shops.
So... a good 60+% is closed for renovations. It’s about 2 hrs worth of something to see. I was a bit disappointed but they are under construction and at least we got to see some cool historical items, not at all a loss.
As an exchange student, being brought to such a place for the first time was an incredible experience. The whole place was so perfectly lit and the exhibition was highly informative as well. It was an exciting day.
Currently half the exhibits are closed due to renovations, but there are still plenty to see! As it’s huge, it will take a few hours to visit just half the museum. Very well thought out, informative and lots of interactive exhibits for children and adults.Best of all, it’s free! The queues are also shorter than some other museums.
So many cool exhibits. You’ll always have such a good time!!!
There are heaps of reviews here and it’s quite popular I really don’t need to make a review but what the heck one more can’t hurt. It’s awesome to be able to see the monuments and museums at the nations capital so if you have some time go check them out!! I love to see the history they have preserved here!
Absolutely plan on returning! So much fun. The movie itself was an experience. Didnt get nearly as much time there as I would have liked, but that just means that I get to see more the next time!
A wonderful experience of being at this place. It has to generations of aircraft models starting from the first model to ever fly to New generations, brief biography of famous piolets. On top of it, it offers two amazing short movies about our Galaxy and stars which is breathtaking.
The place is simply fabulous! So many exhibits to see and things to read. Their collection of Space Memorabilia is very impressive, including Moon rocks and the Apollo 11 command capsule. They also have Apollo era space suits and a replica of the Hubble Telescope.Plan to spend a few hours here to take it all in. You will be glad you did.
Came here earlier this year for the day, it was a good experience as Ive always wanted to see the Wright brothers aircraft.
We visited several of the Smithsonian museums while in Washington and the National Air and Space Museum was fantastic. It had something for all ages to see and was very educational. We spent a couple of hours in the museum, but could have stayed longer because there’s just that much to see. This and National Natural History Museum were the two best museums and they’re directly across the Mall from each other. Recommend you enter any of the museums your planning to visit from the street sides of the buildings (Constitution Ave for Natural History and Independence Ave for Space) versus the Mall side as the line ups to get in are much shorter. Definitely worth visiting while in Washington.
Loved it! So educational and informative! It definitely sated my curiosity of how planes work, how do the insides look, etc. They have displays from the Wright Brothers journey to the samples of rocks from Apollo missions. There is a special hands-on science room for children where you learn about gravity etc. and the motion rides are awesome! There are a few souvenir shops as well. You can easily spend 2-3 hours going through the museum.
The museum was great and i tried the freeze dried ice cream sandwich and it was delicious everything was fascinating but the staff was rude.
An absolutely amazing collection and museum with a captivating tours given by a young docent. Was the most interesting thing Ive ever listened to! Many original vehicles and space crafts and full of information. Highly recommended (we even came back the next day for a second visit)
Had a great time at air space museum. You could see the Wright brothers history, souvenirs, moon landing and the rockets used for that... It will take 2 hrs easily. There is an IMAX theatre if you fancy a movie. There was a dedicated section for wright brothers and also how things fly explaining with small experiments about pressure difference, wings, drag force, balance... Super cool.
Amazing museum although the experience didn’t felt quite complete with the renovation work going on. But definitely worth some of your time in DC.
The Wright brothers, The V2, The Lunar Module, Sputnik and more marvels at the worlds most visited musuem. Fantastic for the entire family!
Parking two blocks up the street was $19/day and that’s a good deal if you visit this free museum and walk a few blocks over to the other museums. The IMAX theater shows entertaining movies as well as educational movies. Our twenty something kids enjoyed the interactive exhibits and toured the space capsule. We older folks who’d been here before loved the cafe with self serve coffee in the atrium. The soup was also self serve.Be advised they do not allow outside food or drinks, other than water bottles, in the museum or cafe.Of course the museum shop had cute space themed merchandise. I really wanted the astronaut helmet. This museum awakens the adventurer in all of us. We achieved the impossible.
I went there with my 2nd friends. All I wanted to do was have a nice day out with my 1st friends, but they all ditched me to go to the stamp museum. So I had no choice but to call in my backup friends.
Must-visit for anyone who’s even slightly into aviation, a classic Smithsonian museum. However, currently undergoing heady and much-needed renovations in 2020. Still worth a look as it is free, but definitely check out the Udvar Hazy center at Dulles Airport if possible, hosting incredible, full-size aircraft such as the Concorde, space shuttle, and 707 prototype.
The National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, also called the Air and Space Museum, is a museum in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1946 as the National Air Museum and opened its main building on the National Mall near LEnfant Plaza in 1976. In 2018, the museum saw approximately 6.2 million visitors, making it the fifth most visited museum in the world, and the second most visited museum in the United States. The museum contains the Apollo 11 Command Module Columbia, the Friendship 7 capsule which was flown by John Glenn, Charles Lindberghs Spirit of St. Louis, the Bell X-1 which broke the sound barrier, the model of the starship Enterprise used in the science fiction television show Star Trek: The Original Series, and the Wright brothers Wright Flyer airplane near the entrance. The National Air and Space Museum is a center for research into the history and science of aviation and spaceflight, as well as planetary science and terrestrial geology and geophysics. Almost all space and aircraft on display are originals or the original backup craft. It operates an annex, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, at Dulles International Airport, which opened in 2003 encompassing 760,000 square feet (71,000 m2). The museum conducted restoration of its collection at the Paul E. Garber Preservation, Restoration, and Storage Facility in Suitland, Maryland as of 2014, while moving restoration and archival activities into the Mary Baker Engen Restoration Hangar at the Udvar-Hazy annex.
If you love space and anything that flies, you will love this place. As with most Smithsonian museums this one is free. Lots of interactive displays and both original and replica life-sized models of the history in aeronautics.
Great place to be. You can probably spend the whole day here. The guided tour is great, runs though the entire history of flying industry. Experience zone to play with as well. Amazing place for kids. They often have shows here for kids.
Great tour! Such a fun time seeing all the historic things in the museum. We did the flight simulator and I’ve decided that my new nickname is Maverick! You can’t go wrong spending a few hrs inside exploring.
This place was really cool, they have satellites there. Old air planes everywhere! A whole room dedicated to the Wright brothers! And some of there inventions! U can even enter a real space ship. There is so much of NASA stuff. Like the first space suit. And so much more. Really cool, u should visit!
It is a beautiful place to learn about the African American history. So much info right at your fingertips. It was a bit too crowded and loud for my taste and I suggest not going on a special holiday. I also highly suggest not getting the desserts in the cafe. It is VERY high on sugar and a bit on the pricey side. Other than that, the food was delicious and very filling.
Amazing museum with very educational exhibits showcasing the history of air and space! My favorite pieces were right when you walk into the museum, the Gemini IV & Friendship capsules...such a great piece of history. We ended up seeing the Apollo 11 movie in the Lockheed IMAX theatre, which was awesome. You can easily spend a few hours here seeing all the great exhibits.
We went to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first man on the moon. Wow, we were astounded by the production the Smithsonian put on. We watched the 17 minute show projected on the Washington Monument and several large screens and I cant explain how awesome it was. After the outdoor show on the National Mall, we returned to the Air and Space museum. We played a scavenger hunt and earned an Apollo 11 patch, and watched a balloon boot drop from the ceiling at exactly 11:56pm on Saturday, July 20, 2019. Hundreds of volunteers made this program smooth and unforgettable for tens of thousands.
I was very excited to finally get to see this museum. Its a fun and lively place with loads of interactive exhibits. You get very close to some pretty special aircrafts too. The gift stores are also very tempting too so take some dollars but rest assured Entrance to the museum is free.
The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC is an amazing place to visit. Almost all of the exhibits of famous air and space craft that are on display, such as the Apollo 11 space module are originals. Entry is free. Worth a visit.
You can travel in time exploring the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. From passengers’ planes to fighter to jets to space shuttles, you’ll find them all here. It’s a great attraction to learn about the evolution of aviation & space travel for kids & adults alike. And before you leave, make sure you buy space ice cream!
Wanted to like this more but was a little underwhelmed with what they had outside of the rockets and the Wright Brothers plane, both of which were very very cool. Cafeteria prices were astronomical and food just adequate. Swarms of people as well. I know you have to go because you have to go once but won’t be back again.
Oh sure, the entire museum MAY be full of air, but there is absolutely no Space in this museum AT ALL! I payed to go to the air and SPACE museum, not to go to the Air museum. SAD!
An amazing interactive air and space museum where our children had a lot of fun while learning the evolution throughout the years.
Super fun! Not just Americas accomplishments other countries too. Family friendly. A lot to see and experience. Great for boys and virls. Even has some interactive displays.
Its free. Great displays for air and space. Interactive area for kids to learn and play. Line was not too bad. About 10 minutes. Outside there was a telescope which was currently at the sun, but depending on time of year its other cool things. Lots of staff and security. You can not bring in open food but water bottles were ok. Sign said no food, but my kids and I had snack size chips and they were ok with it. It takes about 2 hours to see everything and play with the displays. Its between Capital building and Washington Monument. On the Great Mall. You cant go wrong since its free!!
While the exhibits we were able to see were cool many where closed and unavailable.
Very popular museum keep in mind. Seeing the exhibits is not too difficult as there are a lot of big and impressive ones. Interactive displays are crowded and chaotic but are very informative. Nothing but water is allowed FYI.
Score: 10/10!Why: Just the best space museum in the country.Exhibits: Terrific. Informative. You learn ALOT!Public Restrooms: Yes. Several.Food: Nice big cafeteria. Many food trucks etc around. Cafe can be a bit more expensive.Access: Google Metro and bus stations and timings. Very accessible.Parking: There. But hard to find a spot. Not recommended.Kid-friendly: Definitely.Time needed to see all of it: Your whole sunday!Recommended hours: 10.00 AM to 4.00 PM.
The museum is currently under renovation and a lot of the exhibits are closed and some were moved to the main museum but overall it was a nice visit. Very crowded due to the Cherry Blossom festival going on that day but still manageable. Lot of history. I enjoyed it quite a lot even though I thought it was a lot bigger than that.
Title - Aerospace Technology Makes Me Forget TiredBecause it was raining in the morning, I went to the museum a little tired. However when I go and get there I was so awesome that I even lost my tiredness. On the first floor, I saw the development process of aviation technology that is used to airplane or rocket. And then I went up the floor and looked at the airplane used in World War II. The Smithsonian Aerospace Museum was home to the Wright Brothers airplane and various combat and transport aircraft used in World War II. And also the Apollo 11 command post, and the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, were displayed in this place, too. It is a typical feature that it is displayed on the ceiling as if it is flying. So, When I see them, I could feel a lively feeling and charm of aircraft or rocket. Also it was impressive to learn more about the origin of the aircraft and how it was used in the history. And after that, I was also able to hear a brief information about the International Space Station and the activities that took place within it, and it was especially memorable and meaningful in that I was able to learn more About Aerospace technologies, including the history of the space station. It was also memorable that I finished the visit with a souvenir with a NASA-carved logo at the end. And What I was sorry about was that I could not write notes that I could not directly see and feel. So if I go back, I want to take notes and take notes, and if you go, I also recommend taking notes.
The museum had a real space lab orbital module. inside, and life sized replicas of many rockets - V2, aerobee 150, viking, etc. There was also a life size model of the Hubble telescope. In the gift shop I found 1969 news papers being sold. They were the ones published on the very next day of apollo 11 landing.Like all museums in the area this ones also big, so keep some time when visiting it.More than adults, I believe this museum belongs to the children. It would be wonderful if it could inspire a love for science in them.
My favorite Museum in all of the city. I went multiple times during the summer months. I think every American can take pride in this museum.
This was something that I was looking forward to on my trip to Washington. I was like a kid in a candy shop. So much to see and discover. It would be great if there was a few more interactive exhibits. But as a space but I was loving seeing all the NASA memorabilia. I didn’t have the time to check out the IMAX but I have heard that it’s worthwhile.
We came to see Armstrongs Apollo 11 space suit and the museum was underwhelming. The content is the musuem is very impressive, but the way out is displayed needs improvement. I understand that they are making upgrades, but Armstrongs suit was in a strange corner, felt like it was left there by accident. Bathrooms werent very clean. Stopped by the gift shop to pick up a couple pins, stood in line nearly 30 minutes to pay.
As advertised, lots of air and lots of space. I bought some air at the gift shop.
This place is really great for air and space enthusiasts. It has a lot of information and it is really fun for everyday people. It is absolutely free!! Which makes it even better. There are also IMAX cinemas inside the museum so you could watch a 45 minute movie about Air and Space. A must go if you are an enthusiast about space and planes, plus it’s free so you save on money.
The National Air and Space Museum exceeded my expectations, I’ve never really been into planes or space travel but this has to be my top Smithsonian Museum. There is so much to learn and a large space to see a variety of exhibits. Great for the kids as there is a lot of interactive areas, really nice to see the quality of items in the Museum.
The National Air and Space Museum is achieving worldwide fame as the worlds largest aerospace museum. It is considered a must-visit attraction in Washington, and is always crowded with tourists. It is one of the museums managed by the Smithsonian Institution that was established to show and study the history of aviation and space development. There are 60,000 different kinds of exhibits, IMAX movies, educational programs and other activities, which make everyone enjoy regardless of their interests. In particular, all the exhibits in the museum, such as airplanes, spaceships, and telescopes, are not models, but objects that you can actually touch like Moon rock.It was relatively uncrowded when I visited on Sunday 10 a.m. To enjoy the museum properly, you had better take the time to look around slowly. If you have a chance, applying for training programs such as the Space Demo Program, which involves 20 to 25 people, makes your tour even more beneficial. For more information, please contact the welcome center on 1 F. You can also purchase unique and interesting souvenirs at the Museum Store located on the first floor. There are also small shops everywhere. Buying a ballpoint pen, a T-shirt, as well as dolls and space food will make you more enjoyable. One disappointing thing is that renovation at 23 exhibition halls has been currently underway since August 2018. Therefore, you can’t see some parts of the museum, including ‘America by Air’, ‘Early flight’. Construction of all the exhibition halls is expected to be completed by 2025.
As a Smithsonian, this museum for the most part didn’t disappoint. Free entry, of course. Very focused on the space part of air and space museum, but that is what I went for. Also had a pretty extensive exhibit on the Wright brothers. My only complaint is that Apollo 11’s mission capsule wasn’t present, which is a shame given the current ongoing Apollo 50 campaign.
Great exhibits. Better for kids than the Chantilly,Va air and space museum but lots of unique fun displays. Gets crowded so get there early. Exhibits change so visiting multiple times is a good idea.
It was fun but.... I was a bit disappointed in the fact that it was a small museum. I am not to sure if it is because they are build or renovating the one wing of the building. But I was expecting a bit more. But still a good experience overall. Children would love it here.
Absolutely incredibly well done. Id recommend coming here alone so that you can read through all the exhibits in peace and really learn about the journeys of amazing astronauts and space tech.
This was a very insightful history of flight, exploration, and where we are going in the future. I enjoyed the early flight and exploration/navagation exhibits the best. I would recommend going here on a weekday of at all possible, because we went on an off weekday and off season and it was very full.
I went here today with family and my cousin, uncle we had fun and tons of people was in here.
This was probably our favorite museum that i visited visited so far. They have a great area that kids of all ages get to try all sorts of cool science experiments while learning about aerospace engineering. The displays made great photographs and was perfect timing for things our kids are studying and reading for school.
Good place for family with kid. You will see and learn how they work.
It is definitely one of the best museums Ive been to.BUT....Theyre using Port-a-Pottys as bathrooms lol.
Absolutely amazing. Lots of interesting tidbits on the origins of flight, the space race and the history of navigating the globe. It had everything from the eagle lunar lander to a mock-up of the 1904 wright flyer.
Great museum but sadly the space shuttle was in service at the time I was there
Visited during the construction, but there were still quite a few exhibits open . One of my personal favorites was the Orville & Wilber Wright Exhibit. The history & items on display were very interesting! All the exhibits were easily assesible & once the full update is complete, it will be amazing!
A bit crowded but very kid friendly with activities and games that the five-year-old twins I nanny absolutely loved. We made our own aircraft out of craft materials, created our own virtual rockets, looked through telescopes, and had a ton of fun just wandering around. Lines went quickly and staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Felt confident allowing the kids to explore a bit more openly as a lot of the museum has an open layout. Parking on the street wasnt too bad and only cost about $5 for two hours with less than a 5min. walk. Overall a great experience.
I brought my boys here... they loved seeing all the space ships, satellites, mars bots and stars/ space/ galaxy stuff!! And it was all free
Loved going here when I was younger and now I enjoy as an adult with my own kids. Visited in December 2019 but its currently under renovation. As always, all the museums are free which is great!
Beautiful place! So many things to see and learn. My kids had a great experience.
One of the best things in Washington DC are the Smithsonian museums. They all have free entrance. They can hold your attention whole day and you will come out much richer in knowledge.
This was a great free experiance with my family. We enjoyed it very much. It was huge and a lot to see. Make sure to soend the whole day looking at the museum because there is a lot. Make sure to bring walkers for your kids. Its a lot of walking and a lot to see. I would come back again for sure!
When Gene Roddenberry wrote the famous quote Space...the final frontier ... he wasnt joking. One can spend hours here learning and having an epic and unforgettable time here. And if youre a Trekkie they have that too.
A lot of areas were close to renovation, but still worth spending an hour or so to remind yourself of the importance of aviation and space
The museum is great. We were there during peak bloom of the cherry trees, so I dont know if that had anything to do with the crowd size, but it was absolutely insane. Couldnt hardly look at anything without getting bumped into. They could also use a bit longer hours.
A fantastic museum on the National Mall celebrating all things aviation and space. It’s free to get in and we I visited hardly any queues to get through security (bag/belongings scanner plus body scanner). As soon as you are in the building you are met with incredible sights, from the X-1 and X-15 aircraft hanging from the ceiling to space modules and the Apollo Lunar Module. The exhibitions run off to the left and right of the entrance area and are over 2 floors. Highlights include spacecraft and the Hubble Telescope plus rockets and an excellent room covering the Space Shuttle programme. There are also areas covering topics such as navigation, from the early use of stars to modern day GPS and flight. A must visit attraction if you are in DC.
A highlight of my visit to the nations Capitol. So much that educates and amazes: a real V2 rocket! the first plane to go faster than the speed of sound (the Bell X1)! the Spirit of St. Louis! The kids loved the exhibits showing how flight works.
Located on the Independence avenue, this is one place which has to be seen and experienced. From the earliest model planes to lunar capsules, one can see everything.Entry is free. So, you just need to reach there to feel it. If possible, do not bring any bags as security is high and visitors sans any bags get entry very fast through a dedicated line.Information is the key and there are tours conducted by the staff. Highly informative and entertaining tours.Although scores of visitors are there, yet, you don’t feel claustrophobic. One may experience some queue in wash rooms.
We had a fabulous visit and saw many exhibits. Good place for the whole family. Very accessible for wheel chairs, scooters, and strollers.
Great effort by US Government for exploring history of plane, space crafts, rockets, engineering of every machines used up to the advancement in now a days technical achievements. Nicely designed.. Grouped in different categories.. Worth visiting for every people but especially much helpful to Students of Aerospace engineering. If we took guide with us, it will be much beneficiary to understand in deep.Mush appreciation for not to charge any entry ticket fee..I.e. Free Entry..Thanks to the Government of Washington DC, US
Under renovation so some exhibits not available. Recommend a tour. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly and seemed to truly enjoy working there. His joy was evident as he talked about the exhibits, their reliance and the science relating to the exhibits.
The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC offers so many historical rarities all in one place. The Lunar modules, Charles Lindberg’s one-of-a-kind Spirit of St. Louis, the Wright Brothers plane, Amelia Earhart’s plane, John Glenn’s rocket, the nuclear warheads are just few of the wonders inside. The museum is well organized in a manner as to be appealing for both young and adults. Although in some displays it was elbow to elbow, but everything was worth it.Be awestruck by the massive exhibits that hang from all parts of the ceiling. The space art gallery has superb photographs and paintings of NASA’s missions.Certainly, this is one of Washington, DC museums to visit when you are at the Mall, especially if you love aircraft and space like I do. Be there at opening time to avoid the influx of people. The admission is FREE.
Quite a queuing as we were there at the end of December, but it wont take much time. Good for kids and being inspired about humanity aviation and space lovers. Drinking water fountain available inside.
The name itself gives all the information that is required to about this place. For those curious peeps, to know the whereabouts of the origin of flying to the advancement of flight that we have achieved. A great way to dive into the history and the future. Those failed attempts, those dreamers and those achievers, every little contribution meticulously drafted and displayed. Amazing staff and very patient as there are many kids running around, which does not make their job easy. I would recommend to take an assistance from a guide, to understand everything. And do buy stuff from the gift store. You will be supporting the running of the museum as there is no entry ticket.
First time visiting the museum. From the outside it didn’t look that large, and so I thought it would be a quick tour through the museum. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong. We spent 5 hours in the museum and still didn’t get to see all the exhibits as some were under renovation. Really enjoyed all the artifacts and how the exhibits were laid out. Told a great story from the beginning of aviation to today’s technological advances in avionics . The VR experience was great and was well worth the money! Overall a good experience and would recommend to anyone in the area as admission is free!
