DC Fray is such a great way to get plugged in to the city life! Theyve got awesome events like Field Day (for adults!) and it seems like every sport you can imagine. Ive got friends who are FAR from athletic and theyve had a blast playing with DC Fray too!
Love the Fray crew. Well run leagues. Its softball for me. Also a big fan of their Insta. Definitely some great night out ideas... you know when you could have a night out!
I cannot thank the staff enough for the AWESOME skeeball season. Thank you to Carter in particular for making it fun every week.
First of all, I love playing in the Thursday night volleyball league down at Lincoln Courts. We lose every week, but have a great time thanks to Fray. BUT this 5-star review goes to Carter on the operations side of the DC Fray sports team. I dropped my credit card last night and he returned it to me personally, the very next day. Solid customer service on top of having a great time playing volleyball with friends!
I haven’t gotten a chance to play in any of their leagues yet, but I’ve been following them on instagram and it’s awesome being up to date on all the cool stuff going on in the District. I joined the mailing list and you get a bunch of good deals and info there. Can’t wait to sign up for kickball once it gets a little warmer out. Definitely check out DC Fray if you’re looking for fun!
Our company Merit Plaques did an award plaque for Robert and his company and theyre were very pleasant to work with! Robert was very quick to respond to my emails and I hope we can work together again in the future.
We went to the DC Field Day on July 27 and had a great time. We were put on a team with a few other people and enjoyed meeting new people. The games were really fun, and we will definitely do it again! Shout out to Martin Espinoza for always being so good at organizing these things!
Amazing place to meet new people with sport activity. I enjoyed my time during my life in DC
DC Frays Martin Espinoza is incredible! Hes kind, helpful and just cares about people. Im so grateful for the help he gave me, without even having met before. Its no wonder that DC Fray has such awesome events, with Martin on their team. I cant recommend him enough - hes amazing!!!
I have been a part of DC Fray for years. The worst organized sports group in the DC area. I have so many complaints when it comes to field sports. It is unorganized. Refs do not know the rules. Refs allow other players who do not know the rules to cause injuries. Field bags are not equipped to handle injuries. It is difficult to get in contact with staff. Cancel games when it isnt raining. I literally cannot wait for this season to be over...if it ever does actually end. So many game cancellations and all we want to do it play. A slight rain isnt going to hurt anyone. Run as fast as you can to literally any other organized sports group.
Refs are terrible. They dont know the rules, let the teams playing call the penalties and half of the refs just look at their phones instead of reffing. Weve had multiple instances where a ref will say they dont know the call and just give a team a touchdown or extra point. The league would be much better if the refs actually knew the rules.
I went to the DC fray speed dating event. It was very well coordinated even with the unpredictable events of the microphone not working and the A/C going out. The DC fray staff of Maliaka and Denise made sure that everyone had a chance to meet someone new. They really get into the event and make it an overall great experience for everyone that attends. Will definitely be looking into more DC fray events as well as telling others about it.
Kickball is fun, but working with DC Fray has been consistently disappointing over three seasons.Ive signed up with friends three times for a Thursday night kickball league, which invariably gets cancelled due to permitting issues. Early-bird pricing ends before the permits are allotted, so it costs an extra $10 to actually know what day youre playing. The fees are refundable/transferable, thankfully. So far this year, the permit notice only went out to captains. Im not sure how mixed-group teams would hear about the change if they were put on a team with a captain they dont know.Last season, they moved from 1-2 league umpires per field, plus some team-provided umps to just one league umpire for each field. I dont expect professional-level officiating by any stretch, but theres just no feasible way for one person to do that job well. Some umpires have not been familiar with the league rules, which is disappointing. The bar partner for our league is too far away to walk and often forgets to reserve us any space or double-books our room. This isnt necessarily DC Frays fault, but I wish theyd partner with someone closer and who shows that they value the league.Ive had a lot of great times playing kickball through DC Fray, but the hassle outweighs the benefits of sticking with this organizer when there are several other options in the area.
Thank you DC Fray for making our event unforgettable. I had so much fun and your staff was just outstanding. I cant wait to come back on my next trip to DC
I’ve been playing in the Thursday kickball league at Stead Park since I was in grad school 4 years ago. I love it. Most of my friends from the DMV area now play in a DC Fray league. Brittany from DC Fray has been very responsive to any concerns I’ve voiced to her, which has been really nice.I also participated in field day this past weekend. It let adults act like kids for a day and it was a great time. I would definitely recommend the kickball league and field day to anyone who is interested!
I have played in ZogSports and FAX sports leagues but I have always had the best time as far competitive leagues with DC Fray. The continually provide efficient play and social events as well to keep me engaged with my teammates and colleagues once the season ends. Looking forward to continuing my sports career with DC Fray lol
Never seen such elite organization before, its a lifestyle..#fraylife
Spring 2019 was my first season playing with DC Fray and it’s been so much fun! Being new to the city, it’s a great way to meet new people!
My team signed up for a football league with games from 8am - 12pm on Saturday. The schedule was released and all games but one took place on Saturday evenings. My team couldn’t play evening games due to work and family commitments. DC Fray acknowledged that the schedule changed (the week games were to begin!) due to issues with securing permits and accepted responsibility but refused to give refunds. To add insult to injury, staff was very rude and dismissive.
I love DC fray .. this is the 2nd tubing trip I have participated in and it gets better every year. Not only have I partaked in tubing but also bingo.. anything with DC fray in fun!!!!
I hate to repeat all the other bad reviews, but this company is riddled with poor management and customer service. We registered a team during the early bird period and they were happy to take our money but couldn’t follow through and place us on a team. The reason - league was full. They never changed our online portal, never gave me a phone call, only one form email that was somewhat vague. So why was registration open? They argued that full teams registered which apparently takes precedent over my teams registration, even if it was after we registered. My suggestion, use another DC social league and don’t give this company your money.
I was excited to be joining a social co-ed basketball league. I love basketball and was looking forward to meeting new people since I just moved to the area. I signed up as a free agent and was assigned to a team. However, on the first day, the captain was upset that I had been assigned to them as a free agent. He reluctantly gave me a shirt and told me he would call DC Fray to get me off the team after that day. In our second game, only five players showed up, so he said I could play with them. I scored 1/3 of our teams points that game and played the full 40 minutes. I figured he would come around to me after that. The next game, we had a full team and he was upset again that I was there, so he called DC Fray before the game and insisted that I be removed from the team. I played anyway, but whenever I got on the court, they would send in a sub for me after about three minutes. I was clearly not welcome on that team. Most people at DC Fray seemed friendly, but my experience with this particular team was very upsetting.DC Fray staff were helpful in providing me with a refund and assuring me that my experience was not typical, but overall it was still a negative experience for me. To anyone who joins as a team, please be respectful and welcoming to individuals who are placed on your team as free agents. This isnt just about being able to play with your friends. Lots of people join in order to meet new people and they should be welcomed too.
Arlington kickball league has been advertised as Thursday nights for 3 straight seasons and they never get the permit for it. Don’t even waste your time with this place.
DC Fray speed dating was amazing. Maliaka and staff made sure everyone was taken care of and everyone left with a smile on their face.
One of the best run social sport clubs I have played in! Ive played in 3 other cities and I move a lot for my job. Im having a blast and making some fantastic new friends. Dont be swayed with negative reviews, if you havent joined, then you dont know what you are missing! What a cool town, what a cool club. Thanks, DC Fray for elevating my social life!Update, 3 years later... still an awesome part of my life. Thank you Fray!
First event with DCFray and we loved it!
These guys are terrible. False advertisement and terrible at communicating. We had signed up for their Late Night Glow Snow Tubing trip. The advertisement had neon light down the snow tubing path. Unfortunately we were scammed. The snow tubing path was dark with zero lights. And the only glow were from the lame glow stick necklaces that they gave us. Additionally, we had tried contacting them multiple times to see if the events were still going on since the weather has been so terrible recently. My friends had called multiple times and left multiple messages and no one ever returned their phone calls.
USS, now DC FRAY has the most leagues available for people to choose from and has been nothing but a success. Every company or organization encounters issues and that is how you learn and grow. They are doing so well in offering the community as many leagues as possible for people to connect and meet.Keep up the great work DC FRAY!
I enjoy playing DC Fray flag football! I do it for cardio, fun, and another way to meet new people. Sometimes the officiating is off but thats to be expected because we all are only human and even pro refs make bad calls. I say if you wanna have fun then get out there and play.
The staff and players in this league are the best! Everyone is there to meet new people and have fun!! DC Fray does the whole social sports thing with total professionalism. You can expect a quality product on the field or with any event you sign up for. Have an issue or a question? Pick up the phone and youll reach a real person who truly cares to help you! The best social outlet in DC with the best customer service, hands down!
I just recently found DC Fray because of Glow Yoga - love it. Awesome idea, well executed. Ill definitely be checking out their future events (retro field day - yes, please!) and also their skeeball league. Glad I found you and you are offering more than just traditional sports!
DC Fray is the best! I loved my experience playing soccer and best part were the friends I met. Not sure about other reviewers but the price was well worth the experience I received and I think nobody does it better than DC Fray. Play, socialize and meet friends. What more do you want?!
I thought it would be very difficult to join a sports league since I was new to DC and didnt know a lot of people. But United Social Sports makes it really easy to sign up with a small group or by yourself, which turned out to be an amazing way to meet new people. I became friends with one of the free agents that was added to our team and played in another 2 leagues with her! I recommend USS to anyone looking to add a little fun and some new, cool people to their lives!
Love USS and all of the sports leagues...been playing various sports for the last 5 years and they are the most well-run programs in the city.Super social atmosphere and the USS team goes way out of their way to make sure everyone is having a great time.Played in some other non-USS leagues and they are not nearly as well-organized as USS.And make sure you checkout their FREE player parties, with FREE drinks...they are pretty awesome.
I registered a team of 7 for the Hungry Hippo event. I mistakenly assumed that since I registered the team, I had successfully reserved the spots we needed and received no information about a deadline or sense of urgency about my teammates registering. When my team did try to sign up a few days later registration was full. I contacted DCF and was disappointed to learn that registering a team was essentially meaningless if your full team didnt register before an unspecified cutoff point. I requested a refund for the two of us who did pay and was told they dont do refunds but I could show up on the day of with my friends since there are always no shows and my friends could pay cash on the spot. The other option was I could switch to a different day (which didnt work for us) and they clearly communicated that it wasnt a big deal and they would work it out. Then, the day before the event I got an email that I was reassigned to a different team. When I contacted DCF to check on what happened, I was told that we could essentially be free agents and our non registered friends werent able to join our original team. When I reminded them of what was communicated earlier they apologized but stated this was not an option but could move us to another date. I noted we no longer had any desire to participate in this event as a free agent or to maintain a credit with DCF in order to participate in a future activity they organize. Since they refuse to refund me, I guess I have to accept the lost $ but warn others about the lack of consistent information, organization, and clarity in DCFs operations and resulting frustration.
Made the tubing trip a breeze. Would book again.
Playing kickball this year with my friends at Highlands park. The kickball is fun, all the logistics of USS are a hot mess. T shirts arrived a week late. Teams (even though we pay 60 a person) have to provide their own volunteer refs for other games. This is the worst idea on the planet, refs are volunteers so they dont really know the rules, are inconsistent, and are on their phones and not paying attention. Played in one game where the ref forgot to keep score. Another game where the ref decided one of our girls didnt score because she ran over the base (she did touch the base.) Another game where we were up by 3 and still kicking and with 1 out our ref decided we needed to switch sides to give the other team a chance to catch up....uh wait what? Everyones trying to have fun and not having independent refs is frustrating and creates scenarios where teams get into arguments instead of bonding. I could run a better league in my sleep with one hand tied behind my back. Not worth 60$ a person.
Great place
ABSOLUTELY LOVE DC Fray and their staff! Have played in several different leagues and different sports and love them all!
Unfortunately there is no option for 0 stars.I apply for soccer one month before the final date. They did not get enough players for my location. So they change my location and day of the week that i chose to play without consulting me. The staff didn’t care about my case and just suggested to get my money back by giving credit to apply again in the future. Why i would do that? Im never going back to that place.
No rules. They need to help their refs out with some standards. Teams fighting about rules because the league has no standards.Just go to the bar and save your $75
Meh - Flag footballSigning up and finding information about where, when, cost, etc. was more difficult than it should be. Even sending an email for specifics was met with a late response and limited information (asked multiple questions, only received an answer for the first one - clearly they did not read the entire email). The refs are lazy and apathetic. Fields are set up uneven, cones missing, and then the players are asked to help put things away at the end of the games. During the games the refs are doing the absolute minimum to get by.The other teams playing are great though! All in all, I would probably not play again. My past experiences with social sports in Baltimore & Howard County were much better. Im sure there are better options in DC as well.
I love United Social Sports! Everyone that works here is friendly and their job is to make sure players have fun. There are so many leagues all over the DC metro area. No matter how athletic you think you are there is something for you to do. It is agreat thing for those new to the area to do. Gives you something to do and a way to make new friends. You really get what you put into the USS experience. Not to mention there are happy hours and plenty of activities outside of sports for you to take part in!
So most of the recent 5 star reviews seem to people associated with the league to bolster their ratings. The officiating in this league is atrocious. We lost in the first game of the playoffs last night on less than accurate calls. All of the refs are volunteers (other players forced to ref) and as a result most of them dont pay attention or dont know the rules. There is a few veteran players that know the rules and they are very helpful in correcting the issues but its hard to get them as your ref. During the season the grey team had a player who was our team ref for several of the games and was the only one who knew what to do. There was a couple of blue team refs that were decent. Beyond that the rest of the refs sucked. I had to ref once the first week and I didnt know the rules well yet. It was my first season and I only read them a couple times. sadly, that was more than most. The staff is generally unhelpful and not concerned with safety. Our first few weeks had us playing on a field full of glass. One team removed hundreds of shards of glass from the field and I felt very unsafe playing. If my BF hadnt insisted on still playing I would have quite showing up. In all fairness we did move fields after the first few weeks. This season also had several cancellations due to weather. I know thats not the leagues fault but making up those games would have been fun.All in all this league isnt worth the 65+ dollars you spend.
They continually work to deliver a high quality experience for all of their players. Great people!
Ive met lots of great people through DC Fray. Definitely recommend checking out their events or leagues!
They know fun!
These guys are AMAZING
Visiting DC.....very impressive group of athletes actually interacting in sports and social activities. ....very refreshing!
I see several others have legitimate concerns about the officials in the league and I wholeheartedly agree. The grey team guy mentioned in an early post is Tyberious and he is extremely knowledgeable and an expert on the rules. He is a volunteer and literally better than any of the actual league refs. After him you are lucky if any of the refs even read the rules. I know I didnt until later in the season after blowing a few calls. I thought a lifetime of watching baseball was enough and its not.As far as volunteer refs facilitating interaction between teams I would say that is bogus. its just free labor for a sport I along with at least 1000 others pay nearly 70 bucks for. Real fulltime refs are the only solution for fixing things. (the NFL could learn this lesson too)I also wish the games stated at 645 instead of 630. With traffic and such getting to the field on time is difficult. My team forfeited twice because of it.The weather thing mentioned earlier wasnt the leagues fault and while I wish they would have played some double headers I dont know how they could have worked that out. I think they did the best they could. The field safety at the beginning of the season was also an issue but I am not sure the league really had any control over that. Maybe they could have moved to a different location on the far side of the National Mall? I know mall use doesnt issue permits and its first come first serve so it might have been possible. It would have just been a hike to the bar. That being said the bar we are sponsored by is terrible. Its dirty, dimly lit, and a cop bar. Its doesnt have a great feel and your stuffed into a loud annoying basement. I am thinking of switching to WAKA to see if they are better. I will update this post if it is.
Much like the previous commentator, I dislike USS. However, their monopoly of the Marie Reed field means we have precious few alternatives. Their organized league is a joke. Games are almost 30-60min late, which becomes a real issues on weeknights. Referees are not always familiar with gameplay, resulting in odd calls. I wish there was a better option.
Some of the other one-star reviews on here are about bad experiences like rainouts, or bad teammates, things that USS cant reasonably be expected to control. This is not about that. This is basically a marketing front for a few cross-promoted area bars and gyms (and Bud Light) that USS packages as connecting with friends. USS will charge you an expensive non-refundable administrative fee to indifferently set you up with a random group of people (in our case, because our company team wasnt big enough) and adopt their asinine team name. Try getting your money back when this happens - or after you find out that each team is required to volunteer players to ref other games, or be disqualified from the rest of the season. Yes, your provision of free labor is essential to USSs business model.Guy from USS spent 15 minutes on the phone explaining that I shouldve seen these disclosures at some point during sign-up, but they were non-existent or magnificently well-hidden. And Ive spoken with five people from our team; no one had idea we were supposed to volunteer to ref. The only thing I could find was their no-exception no-refund policy - keep clicking, youll eventually find it. I was offered credit for a future season, but this would have solved literally none of my complaints.Honestly, there are more stupid premises on which you can hang out with your friends and meet people, but unless youre going to door-to-door selling Herbalife, youll be hard-pressed to find a company organized around less shady operating principles.
United Social Sports has monopolized the Adams Morgan Soccer field by reserving the field every day for their leagues. This field was donated by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates and the Manchester City Football Club as part of the City Soccer in the Community program. This program aims to build soccer fields in the US with the purpose of allowing young players grow in a healthy way and to provide programs for those who have no access or simply have not had the chance to play soccer so that all children can have fun.By reserving the field every day, United Social Sports is preventing people from using the field freely to play. What was most outrageous is that they reserved the field for a Saturday league and they did not have enough players. To try to regain the money they lost they are trying to charge every non- USS player $5 with credit cards for organizing pick-up games. Even if you just wanted to play in the sideline and even to people who just went to through baseball balls. This is a shame and it defeats the whole purpose of the City Soccer in the Community of building healthy communities and overcoming access barriers.
In all, my experience with DC Fray this spring season was negative & the company did not address issues brought to their attention.First, our kickball season started off on a field between the Capitol & 3rd street (marked on maps as union square). This area is unsuited for kickball. During our game, we had to make sure that the ball was not kicked into the water or the street. On multiple occasions, a ball went into the street, causing cars (one time a bus) to come to a screeching halt. Furthermore, this field was covered with glass. After realizing the field was covered in glass (someone got cut, I believe), our team picked up glass in advance of games. We picked up three small buckets of glass & the field still had more. After this, I e-mailed DC Fray to inform them of the unfit playing conditions. Their response was generic (& I had to e-mail twice). We were supposed to play between 4th & 7th St on the National Mall, & I understand that the location was closed for planting. However, there are other options besides playing on an unsafe field. Games could have been relocated to another location or games could have been held after other teams by the Monument (another location used by DC Fray). DC Fray did not fix the situation, & instead, waited for the grass to open up, which occurred around the 4th or 5th game. Many of our free-agent players quit after the first few games were on this unsafe field.Second, the assigned bar was horrid. Kellys Irish Times is a dirty, dingy, & disgusting dive bar that is worse than the worse frat basement from your college nightmare. Teams were shoved into the dark basement which was probably a violation of all health codes in America. I am pretty sure that you can contract a STD by using the basement bathrooms & good luck trying to use the upstairs bathrooms without having Kellys staff tell you that you people shouldnt be up here. After going to the bar twice, my friends & I refused to go again. I enjoy playing flip cup & drinking games with my team, but no one wanted to go to the bar.Third, DC Fray officials did not follow the rules. Many of the players believe that the rules of the game are the same as baseball & make incorrect calls due to this. It is important for people to know that the rules are different & even more important for DC Fray officials to allow the rules to be consulted when there is a dispute. DC Fray maintains a rule book and my captains understand the rules as they are veteran players with DC Fray/USS. Indeed, other teams frequently came over to ask one of my team captains about the rules as they recognized his knowledge of them. Several times during a dispute, my team captains would ask to pull up the rules on a matter, & each one of the times, a referee or a DC Fray official told them that “the rules do not matter”/ they made a call and just deal with it/ “let’s just play” & “stop questioning me”. During the championships, a DC Fray official refereed the game & it was clear he was unaware of the rules. He was constantly on his cellphone & did not pay attention to the game at key times (he was also biased as he was dating a member of the other team, but that’s another story). He was unprofessional & inconsistent and did not allow my team to consult the rules in the interest of finishing the game before dark. The fact that he did not allow the rules to be consulted & was not paying attention to the game is something that do not expect from an official of DC Fray during the championships. In sum, I enjoy playing kickball but found the conditions this season to be distracting from a good time. This is my third season playing & I will likely register for another season, but this time I am considering other companies. I will update this posting if DC Fray addresses the issues I have identified or if they respond with an effective plan to ensure that field conditions are play-able, better bars are chosen, & their own officials follow the rules.
Everything about my Bocce Ball league and DC Fray was subpar, and frankly, kind of ghetto. We received lanyards instead of t-shirts, the parameter used for the games was falling apart, the ref judging the game barely paid attention, our team was always slated to play the very last game which does not seem fair, and we only received one drink ticket the entire season, which was really a Bud Light ticket (gross) but a drink ticket. This was not worth anyones time.
If your are looking to join a sport league in DC this is the place to look. They offer a ton of sports from Kickball, Softball, Bocce, and Dodgeball. I prefer to play soccer and guess what they have that too!USS is the ultimate excuse to #HIRL ( hangout in real life). I recommend it for anyone looking to meet new people, and get active.Seasons start every 8-10 weeks and they host parties almost weekly. Dont take my word, join a league today!
Epic people.
The flag football referees are very unprofessional and don’t pay attention. Waiting for current league to end to try another social league.
They provide high quality of sporting events and social events.
Staff are rude and unprofessional
Very unprofessional
Terrible customer service and employees.
Lanyards instead of t-shirts??? Really....
