Helpful staff, good assortment of products, clean and well organized. They have a loyalty program that is free to sign up for. Dinged a star, though, because their prices are a bit high in my opinion. Would like to see better deals at least on store brand things.

I love this location. I first started going because of the Groupon coupons that I kept seeing pop up in my recommendations. The staff is super friendly and the guy who was working the cash register the past two times that Ive been went out of his way both times for me. He even helped me sign up for their savings and gave me coupons. I wish I remembered his name.

Helpful staff and one of the few art supply stores in the DC area. Prices are neither cheap or expensive depending on what you’re looking for but they have a great, wide selection.

My giddy aunt. Why is origami paper so hard to find?!? Michaels stopped carrying it. Other full art stores are waiting for it. And didnt want to tell me but Plaza has it. Why yes they do! Not a huge amount, but enough for my daughter and I to get started today. And FRIENDLY. Turns out theres one in my neighborhood (Silver Spring) which Ill check out next time.

The store was bright and clean, with helpful but not intrusive or hovering staff and a very good selection of watercolor paints, paper and brushes, and many more things that I did not peruse as carefully. I had a groupon, which was awesome, since I could easily have spent much more than I did. Definitely worth checking out!

Ive heard great things about this store and decided to check it out since its 2 blocks away from work. The staff was amazing and very helpful and I can tell since Ive worked in the customer service business for a while. Now I know where to get my art and graphic design needs. Also, their Plaza Savings Card offer is a must. ;) Great job guys!

I dont know a lot about art but the staff helped me out in finding my supplies. It seems like they had an okay selection except the store overall was small. I think if youre looking for something specific you might want to check their website first to see if they have it. By the way the DC angel wings mural is on the side of their building just as an FYI. I was happy with my overall experience so Ill go back to get more art supplies for my drawing class from the store. Im not an artist though so I cant speak to how good their prices are.

Fantastic selection at this art store and a wonderful staff eager to help you find what you need. Their ranges of materials and the brands they carry are extensive. This place became my new go-to after Pearl closed down. Ive gone in for everything from fabric dye to pens/markers, pencil sets, pads, clay-work items, etc and not once have I walked out without exactly what I was looking for. If youre looking to cut down on costs, they also have an email list thats chock full of coupons.

There was a lot of stuff here. But I came with a specific purpose in mind: purchasing seven inexpensive, premade poster frames. Unfortunately, they were very expensive. Their cheapest premade frame was about $40, and was available on Amazon in a 2-pack for $22. I ended up going to Michaels to get nicer frames for $18 a piece. The rough equivalent here was $81. They were very friendly, and had nice higher end stuff. Just probably not where you should head for cheaper supplies.

This place is art heaven! Because theres a severe drought of art supply stores in DC, I was thrilled to find such a great store in such a convenient location. I came in for rose gold spray paint, a gold leafing kit, etc., and they had everything in stock. I had to ask a few questions, and everyone who worked there was so kind. I couldve spent all day in there just thinking about all the possibilities of things I could create. Also! Be sure to ask for their savings card if you dont already have one. Its free and youll save beaucoup bucks.

Square, Triangle, CircleI admire artists and always wanted to draw. I’ve bought books about different sides of the brain, kits for drawing, cartooning, sketching, and a continuing stream of implements.Yesterday we went to Ed’s 2 hour class So You Think You Can’t Draw at Plaza Art and got slung into the mainstream.I’ve gone to many free seminars for technology, financial products, services, philanthropies, and government. I’ve even designed a couple dozen. This was the best one I’ve ever seen and here’s why.Ed was standing at the front of the room, but his ego didn’t join him. He passionately wanted to share what he considered the fastest way to start drawing, and he wanted us all to get it before we ran out of time.Yes, it was a demonstration, because he did everything he wanted us to do. But we were all with him, step-by-step. I drew over 40 sketches in an hour and a half.Toward the end, we started playing “Stump The Artist,” asking how he would draw anything that interested us. He would draw it and we would draw it. There was not a previous artist in the audience. What was the secret? There were several. First, I admired how Ed quickly gave us a new context for understanding what we were about to do. I had wanted to do this for years. In five minutes he made me believe that this time I might be successful.Drawing is primarily about seeing. I had read and heard that before, but I didn’t know what that meant.Ed shared a discipline of seeing things as made up of three shapes, the square, triangle, and circle. He showed us how to combine these three shapes to form complex objects. He showed us that adding dimension could turn a square into a cube, a circle into a tube or a sphere. He gave us three minutes on perspective when we needed it, an artist’s view of paper, and the top dozen uses of a drawing pencil. He showed us his favorite tools, and explained why he liked them. Finally, he shared how we could get good, asking us to draw 20 objects in the next day. He said he would be around the store if we wanted to come back and show him what we had done.Based on what I had already done under his care, I took the pledge and by 9 o’clock that night, had another 27 sketches completed. Did a fairly complex building front this morning, just to see if the magic was still there. He didn’t try to sell us anything, although I was fortunate to be able to purchase his complete kit. You haven’t lived until you’ve played with a tortillon. So why did this work?In hindsight, Ed passionately wanted us to become fluent artists in less than two hours. He carefully chose what to tell us and the order of instruction so we could learn as fast as we could absorb it. I’m sure he knows other things that are impressive, but his goal was to have everyone create a body of work that would give them confidence and a desire to continue. He was starting a relationship. All we had to do was show up. He took care of the rest.I’m ecstatic just for what I can now draw. The unexpected benefit is a new model for communication and joy. Thanks Ed!

Near 21st, Penn Ave and Eye St NW, Plaza Arts is one my two favorite spots for art supplies. The staff shares their own hands-on knowledge with everyone, from the non-artist to internationally known, business folks working on presentations, all level of students, crafters looking for balsa wood, families, drafters and multimedia hacks, graffitti and comic artists...they can guide you because those are their skills.. Check out their bulletin boards of local artists business cards. They are nearest Faragut West at 18th but within 15 minutes from George Washington University, the Embassy of Uruguay. Get the free disount card. Check out the online, too.
