MOST MAGICAL AMAZING PLACE IN DC. My boyfriend and I just stumbled upon it when we thought the street name was cute and we walked right into such an inviting space. They are great accommodations with COVID and the people are the most friendly people you will meet!!! I not only saw american history but history of the rich and famous! I would pick this over the national mall any day
This must be the birthplace of the original hoarder only somewhat organized...some what! This is worth putting on your list of places to visit. There are hidden doors and the idea is to see how many you can find. Our group found about 7. Also has some historical significance, of course you can figure that out when you visit.
This is my second visit and had an even better time!
It was really cool! I’d say spend about 2 hours there. Once you get through, not a ton to do. Staff was really cool.
Too hyped to be worth the $30 entry fee. Its an interesting offbeat way to spend an afternoon in DC
Honestly, it’s a stylish thrift shop. Tons of stuff to look at, which is fun to start but then loses its charm. The scavenger hunts would be fun though. The history is interesting and looking for hidden doors is cool, but they tend to be revealed to you when other people walk through them, kinda ruining the appeal. The rooms are very warm and stuffy too. Worth checking out, but would suggest getting a Groupon for it.
This is the most amazing hotel/museum ever. I wandered through the rooms during my and stay in January, and was amazed at the scope and detail, and most incredibly, every room looked freshly dusted and sparkling. Its an amazing place, and I cant get it out of my head! I am so grateful to have had the chance to sleep there. Coolest place ever. LOVE the John Lennon room, and adjacent wooden bath. Incredible. Thank you so much for making this magical place.
The museum is beautiful, but unfortunately there seemed to be a misunderstanding between the owner and my group. As a professional musician and frequent patron of the arts, I felt extremely let down by my brief experience here.My friends and I wanted to take the tour and snap some photos with an actual camera instead of just our phones - I was also there to purchase some memorabilia for my own collection. The camera did not have a flash attached, there were no additional lights, and there was no tripod. Nobody was touching anything, disturbing other guests, or goofing around. All of us would have been completely fine with leaving the camera in the bag and just using our phones for pictures if that would have made the owner more comfortable. The owner saw the camera and the way my friends and I were dressed, and told us that we need to pay $1000 in order to do a “photoshoot.” We were not there to do a “photoshoot,” we were there to take the tour and take photos like everyone else was - but with an actual camera instead of phone. We were dressed up for fun to match the atmosphere of the place. The owner was definitely not happy with us. He continued to drive his point home about the $1000, and went on about how people always try to come in and do “photoshoots” in his private residence… It’s completely understandable that people would want to come in to this beautiful building and get some awesome shots. Who wouldn’t?The way we were spoken to was not appropriate and made us feel bullied out of a place we paid to get into. We did not take the tour and asked for a refund, which the owner promptly returned. As of July 26, 2019 there doesn’t seem to be anything on the museum’s website about thousand-dollar photoshoots, nor is there anything that restricts what we are allowed to take photos with.I really hope the owner sees this and rethinks how he approaches people about cameras. If he has a certain way he wants things done, it should be put on the website where it can easily be found. Hopefully this will be added in the future to avoid confusion.
The Mansion On O Street is hands down the quirkiest, weirdest thing to do in Washington, DC. Its a mansion in the heart of beautiful Dupont Circle. It fits in nicely until you walk inside into a world similar to what Alice walked into in Alice In Wonderland. Its a mansion of dozens and dozens of rooms each filled with the most random junk from old books to creepy trinkets to signed guitars from rock and roll legends (okay, thats not junk). Every single item has a price tag and is literally for sale. As you walk from floor to floor, youre meant to find 70+ secret rooms. Ive been three times now and have only found 7-10 secret rooms, but when you do find them, they lead to entire parts of the house v. just one room. The mansion is a working hotel and you can book any of the rooms (for hundreds of dollars). They have a bar and food service inside. A tour costs between $15-$30 but its worth going at least once. Its also a great event space (for a quirky event) or team building activity. In a city full of suits, The Mansion on O Street keeps DC weird...well, at least a little weird.
Very different than any other museum! Worth a trip.
Fun time trying to find all the secret passages and seeing the eclectic items that were everywhere. Some influential people have stayed here, both long and short term. Worth a visit!
Unusual museum. Great staff. Fun place!
A wildly fun experience all around! full of bizzare and interesting artifacts and curios. the secret door scavenger hunt is well worth it, we couldve easily spent 4+ hours here. highly reccomend!!!
Such a fun museum! There are a million different things to see and explore. Staff was friendly. Try to find more than 5 of the secret doors/passageways.
I visited in December 2015 - 19 months ago - and I cant stop thinking about this joint.I just composed four paragraphs on my...unfulfilling experience but, before hitting POST, decided to really understand more the place and the business entities backing it (check the T&Cs on the reservations forms for a long list). Now, my post is short and Ill say only that I wish I had my money back.
Great time. So much to see and do much fun!
Imagine paying for admission to an exciting FBI safe house with hidden doors everywhere, then walking up to a historic building, then walking in to a flea market/yard sale with a grumpy lady. We gyot a living social deal and still feel like we over paid. The Secret doors looked more like doors without a doorknob.
Pretty neat museum with lots to see for the antique-minded.
Drinks are expensive...so bring our own...IN A FLASK...They say there are over 70 secret doors but 80 % of the house was locked off due to Guests. I would not spend my money ion this again.
Fantastic, fabulous, mysterious house with tons of artists handicrafts and paintings. That was an amazing experience.
Try it! Fun experience, especially with kids!
Quirky museum, fun to visit
Very interesting place!
Total waste of money. Filled with junk.
We paid $50 per person for the Halloween hunt night. It was a special tour around the mansion, but it’s not worth it. And i don’t believe the 70 secret doors. We found 5 doors in total. It’s just overpriced.
Mansion on O street is magical!
