Nice African themed space, with good service and okay food. Omelette was great. Benedict- okay. Burger- confused with the bun options when they came out with bread instead of a burger bun. Medium-well cooking of the burger was definitely medium/medium-rare. They brought out some honey for the sweet potato fries and some ketchup and mustard for a somewhat dry burger.Dine in service was great.
Waitress/bartender was very polite, friendly and attentive. Chicken was out of this world definitely recommend the fried chicken sandwich or meal. Recommend if you are ever in DC, and will dine again, upon my next visit to DC.
This restaurant is unquestionably one of the coolest place in the neighborhood. Whenever I come there I am absolutely satisfied. They manage their high standard service and the highest level of meals they give. You will be always satisfied with this place. Warmly recommended.
This place was amazing. Great food and even was able to get some Art. I will be there anytime I go to DC and I encourage you all to do the same. Also its Black business which makes it so much better.
So Im not exactly certain whats going on... Food is normally good but really phoned in today. I want you to drink with my meal and I only got half of one. Seriously these guys are usually good but whats going on?
Great service! We ate outside under the new COVID-19 social distancing method. The menu is available via a QR Code and you have to use YELP in order to hold a space in line to wait for a table if there isnt one available. You can eat inside if thats your preference. As expected, the food was OUTSTANDING. I have visited all of the D.C. locations and the one in Hyattsville. Definitely good food. My favorite drink is D.C. Tap Water because Im never disappointed with it.
I enjoyed my visit to this location of Busboys and Poets chains. The restaurant is uniquely decorated and well maintained. They have great menu options and excellent happy hour options. I tried their Lamb Sliders, Brussels Sprouts, Curry Vegetables and Shrimp and Grits. I highly recommend them. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. There are not a lot of site parking, however, there’s a parking lot and street parking located on 5th and K street.
I had been once before and was not impressed. Today I have to give it a 5 out of 5! The food was amazing. A lot of places have opened back up and seems like they have not been able to get it right but busboys has done it. Kudos to them!
Food was really good. The decor is dark n wired, but in a good way (might be scary for some). Staffs are really friendly.Halal chicken is a plus, if you are looking for that.Loved the bookshop. There are some unique books that is not available elsewhere. Bought a kid-book, that talks about racial equality.
What a great time in DC! Exploring the city with its museums and history was a beautiful weekend, to top it off, we found a great breakfast place..Busboys and Poets! Want a great real fresh breakfast and great service.. a must see restaurant, background scene like your in a library, grab a book and I suggest to try a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice! Sorry no pics! I took pics on my Snap Chat lol! But look at one book I picked up to read.
Every city deserves a Busboys and Poets. Absolutely chill and great vibes. Food is awesome
I went hear while I was in school and it was really fun They brought us to a back room that had very good food and was super enjoyable Tim’s for big groups.
Great service! Very cute, breakfast was ehh. But it was a great place for this Texan to have breakfast before her flight. :-)
The food and service was outstanding. The prices were a little high for how much food you get. The drinks were just ok.
Great service and super noce staffs.Love this place
Food was delicious! Service was also great.
I am honestly so disappointed in the attitude of the service members here. My waiter was nice and the food was fine but I came in contact with three bartenders and they were incredibly rude. For one drink I was mistreated by all 3. Won’t be back to this location. I came late afternoon on a Sunday. It turned a great family meal into something sour.
Nice vibe, nice location, great service, great food. Will be back
The atmosphere is nice and clean. The staff, while not immediately available is friendly, and though the service is slow, there is visually a lot to enjoy while waiting. Unfortunately, the food is only okay. The eggs are bland, the turkey sausage was dry and had a weird texture, the fruits tasted a little funky (not exactly like dirt but like they were unwashed). The quality was poor for the price, especially compared to other local breakfast places, but the small attached bookstore was very cute.
Service was spotty. Food was good. Outdoor dining was fine.
The Florentine Benedict is very flavorful. Best I had so far!
Really great food options, even vegan ones, along with a fun and quirky environment and small bookstore area with a solid selection. Fun and quirky art on the walls that also supports positive messages. Enjoyed my visit with my girls overall, though my server didnt seem all to pleased to wait on us which is honestly my only complaint. As a former service industry worker, Im very patient and understanding when servers are busy but am also very aware of the shortness and disdain on your face at my table versus others. Treat everyone the same, as this restaurant preaches, and youd be surprised at those that repay the kindness. We wont be back for this reason, especially with so many local options with wonderful service; however, I appreciate everything else theyve done with the place!
This place has the best catfish sandwich I’ve ever eaten!! The sauce, the seasoning, everything fits so well together Delicious drinks as well!
Very tasty dishes, great atmosphere, and banoffe pie was mind blowing.
I love this place. Its a DC staple. Part bookstore, part cafe and also a restaurant. We came around noon on a Sunday for brunch and were seated immediately. The service was superrrrr slow. We were seated by 12 and left at 1:30. The food came rather quickly and was delicious. The chicken omelette is great but the vegetarian omelette is AMAZING--highly recommended! I needed cheese for my corned beef dish. After 10 minutes of waiting the waitress (Angel) explained that the manager had to ring it in. Then another 5 min later the manager came to ring it in but by that time my food was no longer hot so I told them to forget it. The Check took forever to come and it took forever for her to bring back our cards/change. Its still a great place and I would come back again. The server was nice but it seemed like she forgot about us. This space is very nice. Love all the art and the music they played. Very nice ambiance.
Service was great even though they were busy on a Sunday morning. Food was just a little cold but otherwise we had a nice experience
Good food. Lots of spread out indoor and outdoor seating.
Amazing food. Fantastic vegan and vegetarian options
Was not sure what to expect from this place as it looks like on of those trendy yuppie type places but I am glad we ate here. Food was really good and the prices were reasonable. Very interesting décor and they do take out bags which was good as we order too much! This place is good for families as well as just adults. They have a kids menu and we did not need to book. I would suggest you reserve on some evenings as they can get busy
The new Busboys is Fire a nice wide open space and still that great service. I had a awesome time and would recommend anyone, bring the kids this is a hut! Thank you!
Is just amazing. The food is incredible and super healthy, awesome place for vegans. The attention is the best. Good music. Good books. Awesome deserts.
This place is so trendy, the breakfast food was amazing, try the herb and cheese biscuit with egg, it is the best breakfast sandwich I have ever eaten!
Have eaten here twice in the last 2 days and it’s been wonderful both times. Amazing menu with great quality ingredients and helpful staff.
Loved it! Reuben Panini was one of the best Ive ever had and the fruit was great considering its December. Pretty affordable menu and the restaurant has a great vibe and is conveniently located near some popular spots to visit in DC. Service was pretty quick and friendly and I really dont have any complaints!
Went for Sunday brunch. The menu selection was great with a variety of food choices — not the normal boring stuff. I had the Turkish hash. Food was well seasoned, fresh and delicious. Will be going back to try other dishes.
I live this place untile this Monday 5th the waitress charged me twice. I called for my refund they told me to login to their site and submit my info and the proof which I did and up to now they still didnt refunded me my $55...So disappointed
My family and I are vegetarians and we came here for dinner after checking our the reviews online. Busboys and poets is such a unique place. Its a restaurant, bookstore, cafe hangout all rolled into one. We ordered the vegan mac and cheese and the vegan burgers. They were absolutely delicious. Add the sweet potato fries and we didnt want to leave. The walls and TV are filled with inspirational quotes from civil rights movements, world leaders. The staff were super nice and its what family restaurants should be like.
Our waitress was SO sweet. We were visiting from out of town and she recommended a few places to us. The food was great -- not a long wait -- and the atmosphere is so laid back and open.
The food is really good. I had the Ratatouille. But, also tasted the catfish. Some may find the catfish to be a little salty. But, it is flavorful. The downside is the service. Our glasses of water were never refilled. The waiter dropped a quesadilla on the table. We had to cancel a replacement order because the entrees came out first. And, items were left out of the order. Needless to say, its a good atmosphere. Especially for literary aficionados because you can buy books and catch live acts.
The food was great! The service...with the exception of one person...was great, hence 4 Stats instead of 5. Id recommend it.
Great environment, wonderful staff, great vegan options! Ive been to two locations this far and very pleased with both experiences. I would love to soy based products removed from the menu or perhaps soy free options for dessert
I was really taken aback when I first stepped into the restaurant. The whole place was very well organized and welcoming. You can even buy books here which was pretty cool. The waiter was extremely helpful in choosing the right meal. The chicken omelette was superb!
This was the lamb “burger” and it was amazing! more like a pita. the sweet potato fries were legit sweet potato, not crisped too much.
Great coffee, great food, cool atmosphere. Large selection of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options; so one of the better places for a bite if you have dietary restrictions. Good place to chill for an afternoon lunch. Has a very nice selection of LGBT books and Race & Culture Studies if thats your jam. Also has charge outlets for your phone, if you need. Note: Recently relocated down the block to 450 K St NW
Really cool location and atmosphere. Breakfast was good.
I waited an hour over my expected time for my food. I was told several times that it would be 5 more minutes. Busboys usually is a go to but their COVID response and customer service has been subpar at best.
Great food and service. The only problem is that all of the chairs at the available tables in our seating area were wobbly. They didnt break but our entire party was nervous at first. We had the pizza, lamb sliders and the crab cake sandwich. Everything was excellent. They had a robust vegan menu selection as well.
Excellent western omelette, great coffee! Cool atmosphere, friendly staff. Will return here if looking for breakfast in the area. Thank you Ellie for taking care of us ️️️
Bookstore on one side, restaurant on the next. Great menu that caters to vegan/vegetarian/meat lovers and everything in between (which is hard to find in one place).Busy place, small tables. Highly recommended.
Food and service was impeccable! I could spend all day here!
I really wanted to like this place because I’ve heard such good things about it, but despite the decent food, the service really just ruined the experience. We were seated immediately so the place wasn’t too busy; received waters and menus within seconds, but it then took our server LITERALLY 20 minutes to come over and take just our drink order. We each got an appetizer and an entree, and our entrees came out maybe five minutes after the appetizers so we weren’t even close to being done, and the server just stood over us with the entree plates while we scrambled to make room on the table.
I had the Fried Chicken, Collard Greens and Mash Potatoes &Vegan Mac n Cheese. The mash potatoes and greens were the highlight of the meal. Chicken and mac n cheese were a little bland. Overall I enjoyed my experience and will try something different. The service and vibe were great.
Great place, good food, lovely ambiance and decore. We had eggs with bacon, hash browns and toast, all wonderfully made. Reasonably priced. We will definitely return
The food here is good quality, creatively presented and delicious. The menu caters to the food-sensitivity issues of the average millennial. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun with a little book store to peruse while you wait for your table. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
Lively atmosphere with a jewel box of a bookstore and yummy bites. I want to give a full five stars but we were greeted by a young woman at the bar with a less than welcoming vibe we later found out was the manager. She however took our order, which was the crab cake sandwich . However were were presented with the Crab cake entrees. Looked delicious but much more food the we wanted. When brought to the attention of the bartender who quickly addressed the issue with the manager it was fixed and we later found out our drinks were comped by the manager as a courtesy. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend.
Very friendly reasonable and clean.
Three stars because the food and service here is really really good, however I came into the new restaurant tonight which is located across from the old one. I was not satisfied at all with the atmosphere nor the seating... As much as I love this place and with K St being my favorite location, I will have to find a new location that’s more welcoming. I will not be returning to this location sorry guys
This place is truly amazing. The atmosphere is second to none and the staff are friendly and the food is beyond my expectations. You can read, drink your favourite beverage and have some amazing food on your way. I tried the lamb burger served on naan and it was one great choice. I cannot say enough good things about this place.
Our waitress was fantastic. Extremely helpful toward us first timers and we really appreciated her adoration toward our children.Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was not so great. For starters, there was a syrup spill on the floor, that nearly knocked my two year old off his feet, and the employee brings a mop and questions us if he really needs to clean that up.Food was just as disappointing. My creamy grits was thick as porridge and the surface layer was so dry that I had to cut into the grits to prevent the whole dish from dragging off my plate after each bite.
Spectacular ambienceGreat sandwhichesDo get the tomato soup as a sideHad the portobello mushroom sw, falafel wrap and avocado swDelicious
The vibe is outstanding. The food is really good. The value for DC is outstanding. The service is a little slow and timid. Staff needs just a little more training and polish. Will definitely return though.
Service wasnt fantastic but it was unique, fun and the food was delicious
The food, the literature, the artwork (havent had the time to experience a poetry reading yet, but its on my list To Do), its all amazing.
Went for breakfast and enjoy the omelet with sweet potato fries!
My wifes favorite place to eat when were in the home of go-go beats and rhythms!
Delicious top quality food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere.
Halal chicken panini is really good! Nice seating area and not to pricy. Cool experience! very friendly staff! Not a lot of parking availability but you will eventually find something
Great comfort food. Service was excellent.
All food was quite delicious and fresh. Freshly squeezed orange juice was very perfect with no additives. The carrot juice was also excellent. The Oaxaca omelette and the Makhleme were both really great. This is a restaurant with a nice unique ambiance with a positive vibe, definitely worth checking out for brunch if youre ever in the area.
Brilliant food, great staff and atmosphere was amazing
The spicy chicken chorizo sausage and shrimp pasta with cajun cream sauce was soooo good!
It has a calm welcoming persona. Beautiful art work on the walls and is cozer and more relaxing of all of the other locations. Great place for author book talks.
Delicious! Wonderful cocktails, art everywhere! Cannot reccomend this spot enough
Atmosphere was great. Customer service was great. The food.... well lets just say, I ate there twice in a week. Cant wait to go back.
Miati the waitress was amazing. The place itself is amazing. Go!!!
Nice Clean Fun atmosphere with great dishes to choose from.
Delightful! Great food, cool ambiance, cosmopolitan crowd.
What a wonderful place! This was my first time staying in DC and my first dinner was had at this place. It has such wonderful vegan and vegetarian food. Even the meat eaters at our table were raving about how good the vegan food was. This place vibes really hard too and our servers were very friendly and attentive. I even met up with a friend just for drinks here - and the cocktails did not disappoint. I will be coming back every time Im in town.
We chowed down on the best gluten free fried chicken ever! I love the collard greens and mash with the chicken. My husband had the Rustic pizza and just loved it! Great food and a lot of fun!!
Great food and vibe! Fantastic happy hour prices. Really good Halal, vegan, and Gluten Free options. Full drink menu with house specials. The location is in a walkable area near transit and attractions in the downtown area. I loved being able to peruse the book store. All in all, a great choice!
The best breakfast and the best service of our entire 4 day visit. We will definitely come back. The French toast was on point and the sweet potato pancakes were fantastic. The coffee was the also the best that we had during our whole trip. This place also had a very chill atmosphere which was nice.
Ordered vegan nachos and they were amazing! I wasnt expecting such a large portion. I will definitely go back again!
Wait time was long. Staff is nice, BUT slow. Nachos with chicken to start? Where was the chicken!? Oh it was buried at the bottom and there was only a few pz of shredded chicken! Dissappointing at best. Next, their signature shrimp dish, salty AF! I jad to request more cream to cut the saltiness. That didnt help at all. The sweet potato fries, were great. Burger, well it was burger. Overall, not a great experince. I wont be back anytime soon. Oh, lastly prices were not horrible for the portion size.
Only tried the burgers and chips which were both pretty great! The staff was friendly, and the tip was automatically charged as 10% of the bill. Beware, if you pay with money they round it to the dollar (which adds up if you split the bill). Overall it was a really fun experience!
Food was great but thats about it! With staff not required to wear gloves handwashing is almost non existent. Told the manager & he basically handled it on the dining room floor!Unprofessional!! Recieved our apps & entrees 3 mins apart! Just poor service & management!!
The art and ambiance in this place is so nice. A bar, restaurant, and library/book store all in one place?! Just lovely.
Wonderful place to eat breakfast on our 1st full day in Washington DC. Heart healthy and veg friendly if needed!
I went here for brunch on a Sunday and surprisingly there wasnt too long of a wait for a party of four. I ordered the grilled cheese which was pretty good, and I wish I wasnt just visiting the area so I could come back here to try the french toast. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, but our server was a bit slow but this could be due to it being busy. Overall, this restaurant is worth a try if youre in the area. (its especially good when hungover!!)
