I’ve been going to game underground since it’s been at its previous locations in Framingham and Natick, I still to this day believe it’s done well in each location. It has a great vibe, selection of video games, arcade gaming, gaming atmosphere, competitions, and more! The owner and the employees are helpful and respectful. It’s my go to gaming store
Owner was super cool and let me play video games for free the last hour before closing. Love the mission and the management.
I love this store. I used to visit this place for the arcade back when it was in the Framingham mall and always had a blast. Their move to Waltham only made it better.Their selection of games is great, and includes rare titles that are hard to find. If youre a collector, Game Underground is a great place to check regularly to fill out your collection or to find replacement parts for retro systems. If youre an arcade fan, you wont be disappointed with the selection of cabinets. Several rare cabinets can be found here, as well as the expected classics. Personally I love the rhythm game selection which includes DDR, Musica, and Popn Music. What really makes this place special though is the atmosphere. Everyone I have run into here has been warm and welcoming, and its exciting to stop by and see a tournament being held. The owner and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. This place really is a gem on Moody street, and well worth seeing.
Awesome place! Great selection, staff always willing to help!
Great experience. Knowledgeable staff and great selection!
Honestly I havent found a place like this in my years of working places. Its a place I can call home with the owners Jamie and Alana being caring and understanding towards anyone who walks into the store.
5 stars because for small independent game store/arcade its pretty cool. Lots of classic arcade games and used games for sale. The type of place your can bring friends and family to and feel good about supporting a local business.
The Rhythm games are really fun if youre just messing around with friends. Really cool that they host tabletop Magic: The Gathering tournaments too. Though a lot of their games were not available my guess is that theyre at PAX East.
Nice combination traditional arcade and console game lounge. Most important to me, they have a working Dance Dance Revolution machine and a variety of pinball games, which switch from time to time, as well as a bunch of interesting Japanese music games. :-)
Wicked good for anyone who likes gaming. Its not very fancy but Im totally function over form anyway. Was my 1st time and couldnt stay long.
This is a wonderful video game place. They have a bunch of arcade games, as well as space to play console games. The atmosphere is like the electronic version of a local gaming shop. Absolutely not your industrial kids birthday party factory that so many arcades have turned into.
I had a great time here! The game variety wasnt what I expected, but we still found plenty of fun games to play. Next time Id like to do Rockband for sure. I was kind of expecting it to feel a little more new inside. When you go in for the first time its kind of confusing. However, the staff was friendly and I definitely plan on going back.
Really easy people to work with. Tested out the product for me before selling it. Would absolutely do business here from this day forth.
A wholesome welcoming place for gamers of all types, there was a young kid playing fortnite, a group of high schoolers playing arcade games, a dad playing wack-a-mole with his 2 year old daughter, and a few others enjoying the older classic games. There is a mixture of arcade games, console games, and card games. There is Friday night Magic the Gathering with a few great players. The facilities are a little tired and in need of a good windexing, but this was such a good community of people, it was easy to overlook the fingerprints.
Not a ton of games but some nice Japanese imports. Spend $20 get $5 extra in tokens. Easy stop off the bus line too.
Fantastic staff! Always friendly and helpful. They had a surprising number of imported arcade games which is a rarity in most states and their trade in values for games are better than most (You can even trade in games for arcade credit which for me, is a win win.) Great place to hang out and meet new friends. If I lived closer, this place would consume a fair portion of my paychecks. Cant wait to visit again!
Retro gamers paradise; it had lots of games, consoles, accessories, etc. Just dont be surprised once they move to yet another location.
My son loves this place because they have very rare Japanese bemani arcade machines.
Awesome little retro video game store/arcade staff was very friendly. Not all of the arcade machines worked but most of them did and they seem to do a pretty half decent job maintaining some of them considering how old some of them seem to be. As far as like home console video games more, they have a decent selection of a games though there could definitely be more... some of the game cases have these stupidly funny little doodles on the cover. Good selection of old games bought a sega genesis game and they even did a little “courtesy clean” of the contacts in the cartridge with 70% isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip which was... courteous to say the least. Looks like they run tournaments there too sometimes. The atmosphere could definitely be improved the store on the inside doesn’t look very complete and seems a little cluttered and the layout definitely needs some improvement. All in all decently interesting place on Moody Street along with all the other decently interesting stores and restaurants nearby. I’d definitely go back looking forward to see some improvements made to the place though.
I have visited GU for a while; from their Framingham location to here in Waltham. This is the best iteration yet; several great pinball tables, a great selection of well maintained Bemani rhythm games, and a whole space for tourneys and MTG. I really love the sense of community, the helpfulness and kindness of the staff, and the memories Ive made there learning iidx and pop n music. Great store, great local addition to Moody St.
Great place, friendly and helpful staff. The selection of hard to find bemani games was incredible and at such a great price. No game was above a dollar most being 75 cents
Came in looking for retro video games. Owners are extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. Although there is a small selection of Genesis, NES, and SNES games, it is well worth the visit. A larger selection of xbox and various playstation games though.
Great arcade for rhythm games. They have DDRA
Really cool place to hang out I only go there on Mondays for retro night but overall I love the staff and yea. Shout out to Big J
I heard a lot about Game Underground, and had high hopes. It wanted to be more than a arcade. It had boardwalk games, sold used games, had people playing console games in the rear of the store and I think they play MTG there as well (there was a stand up for it).It had 3 pinball machines (Aerosmith, starship troopers and star trek). I played Starship Troopers and it was in fine working order. The ski ball and air hockey games also worked well. The arcade games were hit or miss. A lot of music/dancing games that arent my thing. The games I did play, mostly multiplayer games from 90s. It was frustrating as at least 1 button wasnt functioning (Chronotrigger, mortal combat, tmnt and neogeo)I ended up giving away about $10 in tokens as it was just frustrating. I know keeping aging machines functional must be a challenge, but I would have liked to know what games were functioning prior to token purchase. Will I go back, I doubt it. If the functionality or line up change, I may change my mind.
Great selection of video games and great arcade games to play. Employees are super friendly. They also sell old gaming consoles, host WWE nights occasionally and also apparently let you play any game on any old gaming consoles right on scene. A place I really need to check out more because there is a LOT that is offered.
We need to support this place. Great games and nice people.
Ive been visiting this place since it was underground in the basement! The owners are super friendly and know their stuff! I think they found a really good home in Waltham and a great place for all of us nerds. They have a bunch of events, they sell old systems and games (found my copy of the phantom menace for ps1 that I lost a long time ago) and new games as well. They are much better than any GameStop Ive been in. If youre a video game fan, card/board game fan, arcade fanatic, or just want to talk to like minded people, come here!
Something for everyone! Part used video game store, part arcade. You can bring your own console, or use one of the stores, and rent big screens for game play. There are weekly gaming tournaments as well as Magic the Gathering events.
First time visit here. Im definitely a retro game lover and their selection is widespread and worth a look. I will definitely be back to shop again as well as recommend this place to my family and friends without hesitation. If you get a chance to stop in you should do so. I also heard they do birthday parties, Im going to get more information from them on that. I think that would be a great alternative for a birthday no matter what age! Thank you James and Eric for such a pleasant visit. It was nice speaking with you both!!
I always have a good conversation with the clerks.
This place ROCKS! Pretty great selection of arcade games including Time Crisis 2 (it works now!), Initial D Arcade Stage 5, Crazy Taxi, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DDR, Tekken 5, and plenty more. Theres also a few pinball tables from Sega and Stern, skee-ball, air hockey, and some classic consoles with TVs set up in the back area if you just want to go get your Melee on. On top of the dope game selection, the games are cheap enough to keep you playing all evening, the owner is super nice, and the place is open til 11! Really nothing to dislike about this place, I find myself dropping by for a few hours whenever Im nearby.
Awesome. They have the wierd and rare stuff and they love what they do.
I love this place its an arcade, game store and card store all in one! The staff are super friendly and helpful. You can even have birthday parties here!
Polite staff, prices are little high but they have an amazing selection of visitors vintage games, the store is fun and easy parking
ESPN nfl2k5 I called they had the classic video game in stock game works flawless
This place is so awesome, theres great arcade games, retro consoles and Video Games, events! I had no idea it was so awesome.
The staff are really nice and the space to play is large enough for most crowds. It can get loud from all the arcade games. My friends and I have attended Magic events here a number of times and will continue to go here.
Nice plays for gamers of all kinds. They even have my favorite arcade game Initial D
Best place for Arcades and classic games in NH. Think your a good or great gamer try joining a tournament!!!! Lots of fun and great deals here!!!
Fun and interesting, if a little scary for middle aged grandmas. All the kids at game tables looked like they were having a blast.
Community. Community. Community. Community.
Small but fun for kids.
This is a very unique arcade. Good selection of videogames that seem to be imported from Japan.. also lots of space for board games and some console gaming set ups with large monitors. Not sure how long ago they opened this place but it looks like its still all coming together. Definitely worth a visit and looking forward to seeing this place in its completed state.
I am looking for a hack for bad ice cream 3 space game on hudgames
Great place, awesome games brings back old memories! Good to have a retro store in a big city 5 stars!!!
The place seemingly had no air conditioner and looked pretty dirty. It was as hot as it was outside, and I went here in the middle of a heat wave. The place also looked very sketchy.
A cool place with a friendly staff! Its a combo Arcade and Game Shop with nightly events like a Fighting game night and a Magic Draft. very fun
Bought a SNES, it had a sound issue, went back to the store they tested it there and said it was fine that I needed an older tv. Got an older tv didnt work, figured it was still too new. Asked a friend who knew his stuff and had a SNES to hec i iut he said to get a hdmi adaptor still didnt work. We gave up on it for a while ( more then a year) . My brother (I.T Tech) came to visit from Brazil, has been trying everything for 2 days to see if he can make it work. Finally he made me take it to a local game store and test it there their snes and cable vs mine o the same tv, mix and matching ot make sure it wasnt the cable. Turns out its was always, from the start the SNES like I had stated back in the first 30 days of purchase.
Went to play EDH. They gladly made some space for us and got us playing. Its just one big room with arcade cabinets, and tables of monitors. There are a lot of kids playing fortnight in this space. Its so loud. Not a bad place, super friendly and helpful staff.
Come play Magic: The Gathering here! They will set up events based on customer interest.
This place is great, and it makes me really happy to see it full of people on a Saturday night. Our first visit to the Waltham location was fun, but it looks like they are still getting settled in the new space. The retro game selection is very good and most of the stock is complete in box and in great condition. The staff is very friendly and prices on games are very competitive.Docking a star as I was sold a game that didnt work, and at $5 its not really worth my time to go back and exchange. I bought a loose disc off eBay to pop in the case instead, not a huge deal but it would have been nice if the game worked. Also the price stickers on the cases are impossible to remove without making a mess.Whenever Im back in Waltham Ill make some time to stop back in to check out the selection.
Very good retro gaming store. They have a little bit of everything and the prices are good. They have a nice arcade with a good amount of games from Japan.
Great atmosphere, lots of weird games. Machines are in good repair. Nice owners!
My favorite place in the world. Seven stars. Would have been eight had it been in the Tokyo Dome.
The new shop in Waltham is fantastic. Its in a perfect location, and theyve added pinball to their line-up of awesome arcade games. I hadnt been since the last time I was at the old location in Framingham, and I was blown away at the new space. Definitely make a trip if you havent yet.
I love this place! I just wish they had more arcade games, but not to shabby. I always have a great time here. The employees are very cheerful and helpful. Great selection of retro games and consoles for reasonable prices. It is totally with checking out just for the arcade games.
Great selection of video games and pretty good arcade machines!
Nice selection of rhythm games. Also its in a great place you can go to Pho 1, which is a wonderful restaurant couple blocks away.
The owners are very nice, and they have lots of fun activities here.
Totally fun.Lots of games for little money. What more would a nerd want?
Really cool little place to hang out and play games. Arcades have largely disappeared so its nice to have a cool spot to stop in for a quick round of Galaga or DDR. They also host game nights and have some more modern machines too, fun laid back place to be.
Came in on Sunday to play board games with my friends and was pleasantly surprised to find out it was tabletop gaming day! Staff was incredibly friendly and the prices were competitive. I wish I could call this my local game store, alas Im just passing through.
Fun place to play pinball, air hockey or other arcade games.
Awesome game room. Friendly people and lots of fun games. Great addition on to the neighborhood!
This place is amazing, and they have a great selection of rhythm games!
Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. Very inviting atmosphere. They have a large area for setups for tornaments as well. I live about three hours away and I certainly look forward to visiting again.
Amazing place with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I will definitely be coming back!
Last visit was in March 2019, with a handful of other visits since theyve opened. Husband and I went later on a Saturday evening. They seem to be getting more and more set up each time I visit. Back area is scattered with tables, consoles and computers available for open play and tournaments. The front has a number of arcade machines, including DDR, racing, skeeball, hoops and 3 pinball machines (and more). Arcade is run off tokens where 25c = 1 token - you get a deal if you buy $20. The space was quite busy with a variety of people, but I had no issues playing exactly what I wanted. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. There are a number of music games, which make the space incredibly loud - especially when busy.
I went here on a date with my boyfriend this week and was very pleased! It is well maintained and clean, as well as avoiding being too dark and creepy like many arcades. The only complaint in this area is that the bathrooms were not super clean, but they werent awful either.Games were almost all in working condition and well maintained. A bunch of Japanese arcade games, my boyfriend loved this a lot as he recognized lots of the music and games. It is also relatively cheap at $1 for four tokens or $20 for 100 tokens (20 extra). Most rythem games are 3 or 4 tokens and many games are two tokens (a few one like ski ball). $20 was enough for the two of us to constantly play games together for a few hours. It was a great value for money. This place also seemed very kid friendly. There were a few families that came in during our time there, and some tweens and early teens in the arcade. In addition to the arcade they seem to sell games and older consoles. They also had a section with tables and some new and old consoles. It also appears the place runs game underground.TLDR: Game underground is a simple (concrete floor) but pretty well maintained business. They have a great mid sized arcade (Probably 30 machines) with great value for money. Family and kid friendly to the best of my knowledge.
Great experience. Knowledgeable staff and very kind and polite, even if he could not take all of my trade-ins. Better credit value that going to Game Stop!
Awesome place.
Well Im not really one that knows anything about video games but it is pretty cool to have an arcade/place to buy games/place to play game consoles on moody st
Checked out the place after hearing it moved. The selection of classic games the old place seemed bigger. There seems to be less of a smell and creep factor with the new location now that it is in the mall. Theres a bunch of cool arcade machines in the front and a half-baked ticket redemption area. Didnt go during gaming hours so I have no experience with how tournaments are held.
I like it but the old location was underground and better i liked it when it was there
This is the goto place if you are a gamer and enjoy rhythm games.
Great place. The owner is very nice and inviting. The prices are pretty cheap. You can play for the whole day on everything they have in the back for 5$ on Monday afternoons. I think the standard price is 10 or 15. The machines in the front are coin operated and most everything there is a dollar. Lots of good imported rhythm games. DDR pump it up, idx, popn, jubeat, and so on.There are tournaments here sometimes two or three times a week. Everyday has some other event happening, including MTG, smash, soul Calibur, Tekken, and so on.
A great little gaming arcade with a ridiculously large quantity of rhythm games(in a good way).
Great people run it and its a lot of fun
Awesome place to hang. Came here with the gf, ended up staying over an hour. Lots of classic games for sale as well. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Great place to find retro stuff and play rhythm games.
Love this place. You guys should get taiko lmao
Ive visited this location plenty of times now. The place is run by staff that are very friendly, helpful, and always willing to talk about games. Everyone working at this store plays games in their spare time (even the owner); theyre quick to help with any game-related questions a customer may have.GUs forte is rhythm games. The machines are maintained by the players and are always in great shape. The games arent current, but their rates are much cheaper than Round 1 or DnB.This is the place to go and meet local rhythm game players of all skill levels. Ive seen rank beginners playing Jubeat or DDR for the first time, and Ive seen seasoned veterans smacking out Level 12 charts in beatmania IIDX or Level 48-50 charts in popn music. The game shop is good for retro games. Selection is diverse, especially for GameCube/PS2/Xbox games. Prices are fair but I havent compared with other indie stores in the area yet.If you are in Waltham and you like video games or even card games, definitely check this place out.
Great tournaments. Venue staff are welcoming and tournament organizers are also great!
Great little shop to hang and get your retro needs!!
Came here for a smash bros. tournament. Staff was friendly. The location was very crouded with not much space to move around. overall a very cool vibe though.
I gave it a low rating for the first reason being a non-variety of games, the second and biggest reason being the no refund policy for example I asked for 15 tokens but they gave me 15 dollars worth of tokens and wouldnt give me my money back which is why I would consider them bloodsuckers who take your money. I think the kids playground Beantown where I went to with my little brothers on the other side of the mall better than Game Underground
Ggg Tufts yv
Pros: Arcade cabinets to the left. Console games for sale in the front. Tournament play in the back. Very helpful and friendly staff. Like having a tiny PAX East almost every day of the week. Facebook page has up-to-date info on upcoming events. CRT displays for low-latency eSports action.Cons: As of this writing, arcade area was still getting set up. Not sure about the bathroom situation.
Best new place on moody for the family
Awesome staff and Woohoo pinball!
It gave me an overall dingy vibe. Also, people there had the way to make you feel like if you dont go there everyday, you dont belong there. The people acted like zombies honing over their games. Its more of a nerd meeting ground than an arcade. I walked out not even a minute after I walked in.
It was terrible. The arcade sucks theres barley any games. The machines did not worked and we lost so much money. I hated it. Dont waste your time. The air hokey machine broke down 5 times. I immediately regret my decision of going there the moment I went in the building.
Wonderful game selection containing many imported rhythm games. The community is wonderful, the cabinets always in a great condition, and the pricing surprisingly cheap per game (75¢!). This is a place I now frequent, even if it takes an hour drive, and recommend for everyone.
Nice folks. I really felt welcome there.
