Its a hour away and absolutely worth every mile. Knowledgeable, friendly staff that understands customer service. I saw one of the employees give a water hyacinth to a young man who was just getting started in the hobby and the look on his mothers face was priceless. Its not always about the sales, I am driving in from Goldsboro because of that attitude. I hope it was not an isolated case and thats business as usual. BTW wear your masks people, its not that big inside we have to protect those that contribute so much to our hobby!
I was a little hesitant to go here because the reviews were eh. But, I did, and I spent a long time eyeballing all the tanks, and I didnt see any ich on the fish. I dont know what those reviewers that say they saw all the fish covered in ich were going on about. We should all have quarantine or hospital tanks in this hobby to limit losses, so if you dont, that is on you. Also, the only dead fish I saw were in the feeder guppy tank.I had a nice time strolling around the store, and didnt feel like the employees were ignoring me or forcing me to rush through the store. The guys I talked to knew a lot about fish, and helped me pick out plants based on the equipment I had set up at home. They had a great selection of driftwood that you pay per pound, and it was cheaper and better than anything I was looking at online. They had everything from nano fish to (big) red-tailed catfish and (little) arowanas. Everything had a price posted.Ill definitely be making the trek back to this store should I need anything else. Thank you!
After 5 visits over the past two years I can say I love this fish store! I drive one hour+ one way, sometimes calling ahead to find out about a specific fish. The tanks are clean and stocked like a home aquarium, there is a large selection of fresh or salt, the fish are beautiful and healthy. 5 stars from my experience, I highly recommend Aquarium Outfitters!
Very knowledgeable, wants what is best for the fish. They tell you how it is and for the quality fish you get the price is worth it. Only place Ive been going for a year and a half. Always have what you want. Even a lot you didnt know you wanted. Best part is if you have any kind in mind. THE FISH GURU CAN GET IT!
Animals are GREATLY taken care of and there is a huge variety of fish and reptiles. The service itself was mixed. Some of the younger employees there were nice and help was appreciated. There was a older gentleman there that seemed kind of bland when trying to spark a conversation with and didn’t seem the friendliest. there is also a $5 minimum to use cards
Very knowledgeable. Very personable. Awesome staff and selection of fish, accessories and other animals.
I really want to like this store for their large selection and amazing fish, but the staff always seem rude, or they always say things like Im the expert. I want everyone to check this store out, but the staff really needs to relax and stop being so rude to their customers. I frequent this store and hope for a better experience, but the customer service never gets better.
Great selection, extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff.Bonus points for the classic rock station
There is no doubt the owner is a little rough around the edges but his staff is great. The selection is bar the best within 90 minutes of Raleigh. All of their community fish tanks are individually filtered and I’ve never ever lost a fish from the store. They will call you if you ask for a certain fish. The reptiles do have an off putting odor and the store needs a face lift. The prices aren’t the best but I’m open to paying more for better fish, which is what this is about. I’m a returning customer.
Awesome store. Prices were on par for the quality and selection. I was only able to spend a short time here today, but I will absolutely be returning to stock a few tanks in the near future.
I hope this place stays around forever! If youre looking for something usual or unusual this is a great place to go!I have acquired some very nice livestock here. The owner is a very brilliant person when it comes to aquariums. He has employees who are young, full of energy, and quite knowledgeable as well.I travel from Holly Springs to get to this store and enjoy it every time I do!
Great store, the owner Listens to what you have In your tank and recommend fish that live well with what you have. They will also test you water for free
I been here many times and it’s the best place to get really nice fish and the worker are super friendly and helpful
Friendly people, always willing to help and give great service
Took my hermit crab here to find him a new home, but as soon as they put him in that cage i saw cobwebs, spiders, and just many empty shells and dead crab limbs everywhere ): it made me so sad. plus theres only like 2 nice staff there.
I was disappointed in the lack of corals and salt water aquarium selection. They have plenty or fresh water fish and a decent reptile selection. They didnt really have many corals. The corals they did have looked a bit bland. Macro algae was ridiculously priced. If you want macro algae or coral fish room/fintastic is the place to go. Staff was friendly. The farmers stand nextdoor is super nice and priced well!! They have a bathroom nextdoor too.
Great place for fish and supplies I have purchased many fish and corals from them and they are always very professional and friendly.I do wish they stayed open longer in the evenings but I just go on the weekends when possible.
DEFINITELY don’t recommend. We are aquarium enthusiasts who have frequented several aquarium shops in our area. A filter malfunction resulted in the death of most of our cichlids, so we found ourselves looking to replace them in the middle of a pandemic.Supply shortages meant that our usual store, as well as many others we contacted, were out of the size we needed. Imagine our surprise when Aquarium Outfitters answered our phone inquiry saying they had a wide selection. Our concerns with the store began the moment we entered. Our state still has very strict rules regarding social distancing, maximum capacity, and sanitation for all retailers. They were adhering to NONE of them. The store was PACKED, with neither costumers nor employees wearing masks. Our usual shop has limited entry, requires masks, and their employees wear protection, as well. As we were masked and gloved, we went ahead and cautiously entered the store. It was true they had a wide selection of cichlids. It was also obvious why. They were charging nearly THREE TIMES AS MUCH for the same size and type as the other aquarium shop we frequent. Their supplies were also very overpriced, with a water testing kit we use costing double what we were charged at other shops. When we declined to purchase any fish due to cost, the gentleman that I presumed to be the owner rudely stated that he needed to make money. I pointed out that a store just down the street charges far less. I mentioned the store by name, at which time employees standing nearby laughed and disparaged the other store. To be clear, the store we frequent is NOT a national chain. It is a small, local aquarium shop. We quickly left the establishment after this and won’t be back. While they are a large store carrying a wide selection of stock, they are also VERY expensive and unprofessional.
Awesome people there and they will go above and beyond to help you and order something you need. Wont go anywhere else for all our pets.
This place is highly over priced! They do not offer any warranty on their fish. And you could easily walk out of there with nothing special spending double to triple what traditional pets stores offer.
The place had some pretty decent selection of fish and decor, I even planned on buying some plants, shrimp and snails. But when questioned on the liveliness of certain snails. I was met with an immediate almost defensive answer stating that they were of course alive.I only questioned this due to 2 or 3 tanks having multiple snail shells with the lack of the snail, completely empty and still. It also felt like we were a bit rushed on trying to find items we were interested in. I appreciated the help of some workers there (1 out of the 3 staff there I met) and the selection, I just wish it was a bit more welcoming and had slightly better customer service. If you are trying to just grab your stuff and leave then this is the place for you, but if you are trying to figure out your items or introduce yourself to the aquatic hobby then maybe dont make this your first stop.-EditAfter some conversation with my bf and noticing some reviews. I did notice some strange looks and treatment towards me in comparison to my bf. I would like not to chalk this up to sexism but from some reviews and their behavior I would honestly not be surprised.
Awesome place!! Beautiful variety of salt and freshwater fish. If you are looking for rare and exotic, large or small sizes they have them. I spent 2 hours in amazement. They also have employees that can answer any questions you may have about fish species to setting up tanks. Evan was so helpful!!! Highly recommend!
Its great that they specialize in a particular thing, which in this case is aquariums and fish, as opposed to a big box pet store where they dont have the expertise.
The best Fish store in Raleigh.. They stock fish that no one else has.
This place is great! They were my main source of knowledge for when I started my first saltwater aquarium, and now it’s running beautifully. Yes I had one Ich encounter with their fish but that is gonna happen no matter what with the fish shipments they receive. Evan here is a great employee and has always helped me with whatever I have needed. Definitely recommend this over The Fish Room.
As a long time hobbyist in this area I’ve watched many fantastic local fish stores go out of business, and I’m sad that this one is still up and running while the good ones have closed. First, when you walk into the store, you’re slammed with an overpowering smell of feces. The one star I’m giving this place is for the large variety of fish. That being said, very few of the tanks had labels, so if you’re not familiar with fish, you don’t know what you’re looking at, or how much it costs. Hardscape materials (the few that are there) are poor quality and very overpriced. There are some hamsters in the back who are obese and very neglected. The snakes he has never get their cages cleaned, (the same shed skin has been in the large pythons cage for almost a year now). Now we get to the owner. Sexist, sexist, sexist and RUDE. Here’s a direct quote as he was talking to a woman at checkout, “you’re pretty smart for a female”. I’ve been in here a few times and all the advice I hear him give to people about discus is very incorrect, as well as having very overpriced and poor quality discus. Lets just take a minute to talk about the dead fish everywhere on the floor. I get it, fish jump, it happens, however, there are dried up fish EVERYWHERE. I had my best friend with me and I reached into a box of (very overpriced) spider wood, and on one of the branches was a large dried up African cichlid who had clearly been there for awhile. We were repulsed! It wasn’t until then, that we began to notice all of the other dozens of fish dried up on the floor. This place has the potential to be great, but I don’t foresee that happening. The few other local fish stores are worth the drive to get to. I tried giving this place a chance, but I just can’t support it or the man who runs it. Abysmal.....Edit: came into the store on 3/16/18 to get these pictures. All the poop and shed skin is still in the snakes cages making it over a year since they’ve been cleaned. Not to mention the plethora of dead fish. Once again, I questioned the workers on the discus and in addition to them giving the wrong names for the colors, they were WAY overpriced.
A lot of the fish didnt look healthy and the store is overall very overpriced. Im all for supporting small businesses but not at the price these guys sell at.
This store is an absolute gem! No other stores around can even compare! Been coming here for 10 years now off and on due to getting in and out of keeping fish but never had an experience that was less than 5 out 5 stars!
When I want to set up an aquarium as I have done off and on over the past 15+ years I go to Aquarium Outfitters for my fish, food and chemicals. Why? Because Kurt (owner) is knowledgeable and helpful in every way. I recently bought three small fancy Angle fish, two Powder Blue Gourami, and two Panda Cory. All seven are thriving! I will be going back!!
Huge selection, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Was approached by probably each employee on staff when I visited in a friendly manner and offers for help. Planning on setting up a much bigger tank soon and will definitely be going here!
Women beware! Sexist staff make this horrible! Everyone was very nice to my husband, but when I speak up they just tell me Im wrong about things I actually know. Seems the owner doesnt like girls telling him how to properly care for his fish/reptiles. And I see him calling all the others who share negative reviews liars. Trust me bud, grow up.
We are very lucky to have a fish store like this in our area. The owner and employees are friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the aquarium hobby. Browsing this store is always a pleasure. I highly recommend Aquarium Outfitters for any needs regarding fish and reptile keeping.
I love the selection of fish and aquarium accessories, however I was very uncomfortable with the fact that one employee stared at my breasts while I attempted to check out.
Good selection of fish, but the prices are all hand written and its hard to tell what anything says. The owner seems impatient and somewhat rude. I was here a few weeks ago and there were at least 5 employees working, not one of them asked if I needed help. If youre looking for a specific fish, this could be a good spot to go, but I was not impressed overall.
The is one of the coolest places that I didnt know existed. The have an electric catfish. Good place for cheap aquariums and a wide array of fish.
Not the best smelling place, but good service
Horrible service bought a fish it started dying on the way home got home called them they said the fish was just pouting he’s fine he died...horrible place horrible place.
Huge Selection, knowledgeable staff and great prices.
If your looking for a affordable place to find many many different fresh and saltwater fish. This is the place. They treat you like a person and not a dollar sign. Will buy all my fish there.
A large place with a little of everything. Theres salt water fish along with fresh water fish but also snakes and spiders if that interests you. They have pond fish and fish tanks for sale, just have to find it. It honestly is a nice place with a great selection, the missing star is just for organization of the store.
Kurt and his staff are very knowledgeable and very helpful in providing detailed information about any issues with their products. It is always a pleasure to visit them and to make purchases in an atmosphere of good humor and competent help.
After reading some of the one star reviews, and after going to the store itself - I must say that those reviews are complete slander. The selection is incredible, quality is high, customer service is great for a store that gets relatively busy. Dont listen to the 1 star reviewers that obviously have nothing better to do than complain. If youre ever in the area, stop by even if its just to look at their inventory. Will be coming here for my freshwater supplies and future projects.
Old School. They took our 8 year old Bala Shark who got too big.
Great store, Kurt and Evan are highly knowledgeable and always happy to inform/answer any specific questions one may have. Certainly one of the best in the Raleigh area.
Being a frequent customer and quite frankly, a huge fan of Aquarium Outfitters, Im both confused and saddened by the negative reviews that Ive read here. Ever since I discovered this hidden gem, its quickly and easily become not only my absolute go-to for aquarium supplies and healthy fish, but also for advice and guidance.STAFF: These guys know their stuff and have always been friendly and helpful. Even with such a large collection of all different species of fish, they are always a source of interesting and valuable information. Im a pretty big worrier when it comes to my fish being happy and they have always been attentive when I’m asking a million different questions about different species of fish, water quality, maintenance etc. The owner, Kurt (aka: “The Fish Guru”) definitely lives up to his name. If you have the chance, pick his brain about fish. You’ll leave with lots of knowledge (and probably with a few big laughs) under your belt. He’s entertaining, friendly and is an expert in just about any aquarium. Such a great resource to have for any level of fish hobbyist.STOCK: Ive always had freshwater community tanks growing up, but never really had much of a variety because larger retail chain pet stores typically carry the same stock of fish species...all of the time. I cant even begin to tell you how excited me and my fiancé were when we walked through the front doors of the eclectic exterior building into what I can only describe as an aquatic candy store. SO MANY TANKS! And all teeming with beautiful and healthy fish. (I was also very pleasantly surprised to learn that each and every one of the tanks are INDIVIDUALLY filtered. For those of you who are seasoned fish hobbyists...you know how great this is. For those of you who are checking out AO because you want to get into the hobby, having individually filtered tanks for all of these fish is pretty impressive considering the amount of time and effort that it has to take to maintain them all. It’s also extremely important in the event that any fish have an illness (this does happen, guys) that it doesn’t spread to the other tanks. Anyway…back to their selection. They have so many different species and variations of species that I’ve never seen before. If you’re an experienced hobbyist and are looking for something new, this is the place! After years of sticking to just freshwater community tanks, we decided to venture into the world of Cichlids. We wanted to make sure that we were doing everything right prior to stocking our new tank - everything from water quality to decor and fish selection. Not only did they pump us full of knowledge, they had everything in stock that we would need, walked us through the details and gave specifics about each product. They also have a pretty sizable selection of natural rocks and substrates for those of you who like a more natural feel to your aquariums. When we were finally ready, we got some pretty beautiful fish there!Long story short (or short story, long?) I highly recommend Aquarium Outfitters to anyone in the Triangle area who is looking for more that just a “Pet Store.” u2028You won’t be disappointed!
My Fiance and I have been frequenting Aquarium Outfitters for 7 months now. I am always blown away by the amazing variety of fish they constantly have in stock [ and rocks :) ]The fish are always super healthy and I have not had a single issue with illness from any of the many fish Ive purchased. The staff is always amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and patient. They go out of their way to share information about the fish they have on hand, and always give expert advice and tips. Thanks for always giving us such a consistently positive experience!BY FAR the best!
Staff was very friendly and helpful! Great selection also!
Great customer service
This is the best fish store I ever visited, they have fish I never knew existed! Mostly are tropical fishes, but also salt water and fish for the pond. I bought my beautiful Green Phantom Pleco there and will keep coming back. They also have snakes, lizards and tarantulas AND feeder mice/rats. Finally a store that sells food for the snakes theyre selling.
Awesome fish store, others comment about the store being disorganized but I disagree with that (And I know the owner reads these, I love that he reads and replies). They have a very down to earth, diy vibe, and that is part of the charm and fun. There is plenty of organization, the reviewers who mention it are just used to sterile and generic chain store layouts. Real people who care about the hobby built this place, you can tell by the selections offered and the overall aesthetic of the store. I particularly like their hardscape selection, better than every other place in the area.
I was wondering do y’all sell any kind of aquatic turtles?
Never going back to this store. It may be rude, but I always go into a fish store acting as if I know nothing to see how helpful the staff is (Id much rather go to a store thats helpful to people who are new to fish and aquariums and are happy to help than a store that could care less). The staff here seemed to care less. When I was there, me and my boyfriend were the only customers there and the two staff members were just going around cleaning and vacuuming tanks. So I figured yeah theyre busy doing something but surely since theres no one else here they wouldnt mind helping just two people. Nope. Whether they realized it or not they came across with an attitude of I could care less cant you see Im doing something. We only saw them perk up when their friends walked in, which became a social hour rather than actually helping the customers right there wanting to buy stuff. I asked about the availability of a type of fish I wanted and was told they had everything else but that (even though it was recently posted on the website that they did have them). But thats fine, Im aware someone could have came in before and got them but instead of just saying what else you have, a better show of excellent customer service that they say they have would have been to actually show where the other fish mentioned were. The other fish that I wanted in place of the original were just babies and when asked where they were the guy acted short like he couldnt believe I hadnt spotted them. On top of that I asked about a few plants I wanted and was answered with short responses all being about how the ones I wanted were expensive, hard to get and difficult to maintain which was completely false. And lastly the prices that are crudely handwritten on labels are not what they charge you. My boyfriend purchased 3 fish that were priced at about 5 dollars each and at the register was charged a total of about 22 dollars. And they did the same thing to me. One last thing, maybe the guy didnt realize or whatever, but if youre a girl dont go alone unless youre prepared to deal with more of the guy looking down than actual eye contact. Morale of the story, they may have an array of different fish you cant find in many places, but listen to the other negative reviews, go somewhere else or just buy online from companies that know what theyre doing and actually have great customer service :)Side note: the other reviews about the smells of the store and conditions of the tanks, yeah its still like that.
Great array of fish, excellent location for hard to find fish, would give 5 stars if pricing was clearly delineated, and if some tanks were better maintained
We drove up from Clayton today specifically to look at Koi. We ended up having a great time looking at all the different and interesting fish! Fresh and Salt. We ended up with 3 Koi. 1 Ogon Butterly, and 2 standard..all very healthy! They had a nice selection of live pond plants, Koi (all different sizes) at different price ranges for their size. They also have a nice selection of tank decor. We will certainly be back! EVAN was a fabulous help, and very patient with us as we had a hard time choosing from all the nice looking Koi ;) you were right, Evan, theyre doing great in our pond! Thanks again! I read a few other reviews about the store being dirty lol well...its an older building, SO? I care about the treatment and health of whats being sold..not the fancy shop decor. Every single tank is crystal clear and beautiful, well taken care of!
Always friendly..
My favorite pet place with great staff and a wide variety of aquatic pets and a couple other odds and ends
Had savanna monitors labeled as ‘Nice pets’ and ‘stays small’ yeah right. Not to mention they were kept on sand and under a red light.
Never going back to this store. Love how the owners responses to these reviews shows how rude they can be there cause you know thats great to show to customers
Great selection. Fish, aquarium plants, pond splants, aquariums. They dont have the little critters they used to, or birds.(at least not the last time I was there) They have streamlined their inventory and they do have all aquatic supplies, fresh and salt water.
Sure, the store is expensive and the staff could be a bit nicer to newer hobbyists but name me a better store in the area. Their selection and quality of live stock is leagues above any big-box store, and you end up paying for that higher quality of product. Most of the bad reviews here for this store are focusing on customer service, and i agree it does need improvement. Maybe some people really value that customer service when they give a store their business, to me its not a top priority for a pet store.I want healthy, hard to find live stock / plants, and they have it. Independent fish stores are quickly becoming a thing of the past, hence why i support my local fish stores given the chance. Put whatever feelings you have for their staff aside and focus on what they are selling you then judge the store based on that. This is how i came to the conclusion of a 4/5 star review. The only thing keeping me from giving a full 5 star review is the prices are higher than you will find elsewhere. You could always go to a big-box store and pay half the price for a fish but in my personal experience you are getting much lower quality than what you will find here.
Had an awesome experience today, met the owner who was friendly and helped us himself. A wide variety of amazing and beautiful fish. Tanks were maintained and taken care of. Prices were slightly higher, which is understandable considering theyre not a chain store that buys fish in bulk from iffy breeders. Although it was a 50 minute drive, I would definitely go back in the future.
First off, I would still rather buy here than most of the other places Ive tried in the triangle, but sometimes they still make me say, Ugh! They had gotten better about actually having prices of the fish in the tank on the tank after several reviews mentioning the lack of prices. But I guess too much time has passed and the old habits are back. There were several species I wanted to know the prices of to consider my options (swordtails, a few different varieties and sizes of fresh water angels, red tail black sharks, pearl gouramis, mollies, I was shopping for a few different tanks) but after asking for the prices on two different ones and them having to run off to look it up, I decided it simply wasnt with the effort and stopped asking. Red tail black sharks also dont really like their own kind and based on the newsletter had been there for about 10 days and I couldnt see one without torn up fins from how this species interacts with its own kind. Could definitely add stars if I could see prices clearly on tanks and a little more thought was given to what will happen when putting a bunch of red tail black sharks in the space of a 10 gallon tank.Edit: Like I said in the first sentence, I would generally rather shop here since I do appreciate an independent fish store. Nor did I ask for 12 labels for the same species. Just one is enough. Im sure the young guys that were employees and running through the store chasing each other with something at full speed could make some labels if Kurt (since apparently were on a first name basis?) is too busy.
Because we didnt buy all the unnecessary chemicals he tried to push on us the owner was so rude we almost put the fish back.. Will never go there again!!!!!
Creepy but lots of cool fish! I bought a super cool tank for $14. Totally reccomend.
I came into this store to buy a fish because I had just had a fish that I had for 12 years die suddenly. The gentleman in the store suggested that because I had an established old tank, that there may be some chemical imbalance going on that I wasnt aware of. He sent me home with 2 test kits and to my surprise my phosphorus and nitrates & nitrates were off the charts. Had I just bought another fish it may have died too. Thank you guys for your knowledge and help!! You have gained a new customer!
My kids and I got a beta Hes cool. They really enjoy just looking around there and the staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable.
A lot of different varieties of fish and reptiles. Numerous amounts of plants and different decor for tanks. The gentleman was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back!
Once you get their attention Aquarium Outfitters is full of DIY info on keeping your fish happy and healthy. Be patient. The store gets busy. There are a lot of special fish in there. Take in the sights and dont tap the glass.
I dont quite get the trash reviews. The staff here have always been very helpful and knowledgeable. The fish I have purchased have been healthy. I just started a 120 gallon saltwater reef tank and will be purchasing livestock here after the cycle.
Has a great selection of freshwater and salt water fish, plants, and accessories.
Great fish store. Lots to choose from, knowledgeable staff, and healthy fish and plants. Prices are a bit higher than other places but my dad always told me that you get what you pay for.
As others have mentioned the staff is not the friendliest here. I walked in and was not even greeted. Okay - fine. We got over it. Walked to the back to look at some of the plants. We were there for a while and not once did somebody come by and asked if we needed help. So we sought out a staff member. He was in the process of cleaning a tank and seemed annoyed that I would ask for help. Sorry but you were the only one around to help me. Got two plants and was walked to the register. Again, as others have mentioned there are some dogs behind the counter which appear to just pee on the puppy training mats. We got dogs so no big deal. Final straw was when I was rung up and the guy just seemed to make up random numbers for the plant prices. (prices are not clearly marked so be aware!). I walked out with sub par plants, and felt like I overpaid. Went to another local store and had a much better experience. Throughout the whole experience I tried to stay open minded and give this business a fair shot - after all they have been in business for a long time so they must be doing something right. The only conclusion I could draw, however, is that there is not much competition in this area so they can do what theyve been doing. Disappointing.
I have been keeping fish for over 20 years, & for some reason I never made it to Aquarium Outfitters. This shop has the old flavor of the locally owned fish store of long ago, when there were many more in the area. They have one of the the widest selection of fish that I have ever seen. The fish are healthy & in good condition, & the prices are very competitive. Their selection of aquarium supplies are good also. I was able to get most of the fish on my list, even the ones that I thought I would have to order online! It was busy, but the service was great, & the owner very nice & caring of his stock. I am hooked on this store!
Solid selection..fair prices
Great selection of every kind of fish here, from Bettas to the most specialized oddball fish. Love the music selection too ;)
Excellent choices for any aquarium, with well knowledgeable staff.
Very knowledgeable staff. Plenty of parking. Incredible inventory. Everything you could possibly ever need!
Decided to see what this place had to offer in terms of saltwater selection...well it is slim to none and what they do have is a lot pricier than other stores I’ve been to if you keep fresh water this is a good place for you selection on dry goods was decent
Amazing store with tons of variety. Just enjoy going in there to check out all the different fish. Staff are very knowledgable and have given me reccomendations I would not have thought of but they worked like a charm. My go to fish place!!
I have always had good experiences here. There is a wide offering of different fish, the animals all appear well cared for, and the staff has always been helpful.
Love here, very informative, nice, good prices. Been going here for 20 years. Takes very good care of fish, reptiles, etc.
Great, non corporate pet store...mostly for fish, salt and fresh...some reptiles. Pond plants a plus, but 45 bucks for a pond Lily is insane!
Went in cautiously for the first time. Many mixed reviews here but I like this store. Michael was great in helping us find what we needed. The owner was also great in ringing us up at the end and boxing up or numerous items without asking. Greatly appreciated We will be returning in the future.
Holy Cow this place is horrible. We gave it a chance despite all of the bad reviews. They have an awesome amount of fish but none of that matters, the place is gross, the tanks dont appear to have been cleaned in years, the smell of the building is horrible and the customer service is laughable. The owner (yes the owner) is the rudest of them all. He talked bad about me and my son looking up info on fish on our phone right in front of us, you have no idea what the actual prices are for anything and even the owner said he cant keep up so just expect them to be wrong. I asked a question about a fish and the guy started grilling me about my water conditions, which would be good if theirs werent so horrible. How can a business owner care so little about customers to be so rude and talk about them? I just dont understand this place, the owner is the worst employee there. Still scratching my head...
How is this place still open??? The store is filthy, there are dead fish in the fish tanks, and it smells horrible. This is a disgusting store that should be closed down. Fish deserve better than this.
Nice people work there good fish but pricey
The fish are in excellent condition
Although theres a bit more variety compared to other stores in the area, its not worth the trouble. Ive seen everything from filthy discus tanks, to axolotls housed with gravel as a substrate. Staff is a displeasure to do business with. Theyve got the lowest rating in the area for a reason.
I visited this store and was horribly disappointed. Dead fish everywhere. Filthy tanks, and an owner who has little to no respect for the lives of his inventory, or satisfaction of his customers. I was disgusted, but barely surprised to see the treatment potential returning customers g e.g. t when giving their feedback. Sometimes he even goes low as name calling. Very mature of a business owner. My advice, go elsewhere. Add should you go anyway. Take and post pictures of the filthy store so this individual cant include calling you a liar or fake account in his tantrum th as t borders on harassment as he has done many others.Edit Aprl 16. I was correct. My criticism was met with blatant lies from this ownerTo be clear I was one of you salt water customers. I was in inquiring if you had kudas or tiger tails for my 120 reef. I breed them you see, and while visiting from out of town, I thought it would be an excellent chance to step in (no children mind you) and get some fish from out of state to prevent inbreeding. Not once d.c. Id I take a second look at your disease ridden feeders.I get it friend, you were visibly stressed about your dying business, or maybe the concern was your employee who didnt know to bag coral with water. Regardless try fixing the problem. Not covering it up with slander and molding carpet.
This store has supplied fish for me for many years. I love there store they have all kinds of fish, that are very healthy and happy with enough room to swim. There is also all kinds of birds and rodents in the back that are very cute. Finally some one bought the huge beautiful Python that is usually in the back, my daughter always loved to look at it but i am happy it got a good home. I love the selection of fish they have and there is always diversity in the fish. I dont know what people are talking about when they say there are no price tags but they are right on the tank in legible writing all you have to know is what kind of fish you want. The people there are always helpful when i have questions and can always help if i have problem with my tank. I think everyone should go on over to Aquarium Outfitter and check out a fish or animal! take you kids too theyll love it.
Selection better than anywhere.
Third attempted visit based off of their hrs on the door and long behold.....closed!! Waste of time
I like to support my local aquarium store and we love visiting Aquarium Outfitters and checking out all their fish and reptiles. We have purchased hermit crabs that have been healthy, healthy fish, and some basic fish and hermit crab supplies. The younger of the two main employees is extremely kind, helpful, and knowledgeable.Best place to go on Halloween at closing time to stand in the dark reptile room with classic rock playing.
Great selection of fish and knowledgible staff.
Aquarium Outfitters is the only place to go for your aquarium needs! Ive been going here for half a decade since I started my first tank that a buddy gave me and I knew nothing about fish keeping. Kurt is very knowledgeable and staff is always very helpful. Excellent selection of fish. New fish and critters every week! Would recommend to everyone you go there and check them out asap!
The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. They have a great selection of fish and supplies for aquariums and ponds. Drove for 90 mins to get there but it was worth the trip.
Very helpful information. Great staff. Amazing selection at a good price. Healthy fish and clean tanks.
