Really cool. But the trail does not go officially too far, but it turns out at the top of the official trail that there is an unofficial trail. Apparently the sign do not go off trail is a guideline for locals, and a trail exists to go to the top, they say about an hour of walking.

Its one of the best places on the Maui island. Beautiful waterfalls, calm atmosphere, cool breeze, clouds, shadows of mountains, chirping birds and trees all around. This place have its spiritual values as well as spectacular scenery. Its a short trip to see the peak from a lookout place. The parking is $5. Sometimes there is not enough space to park the vehicle, so prefer to visit early in the morning otherwise you will have to park on the road. I highly recommend to visit this beautiful Iao Valley State Park.

This is a great stop in Maui.Theres a few short trails to explore by the river. We also enjoyed the small little botanical garden by the entrance. The main view is up a few stairs. Its really gorgeous. We came early in the morning which didnt have the best lighting, but it was still gorgeous. There was almost no one else there around 8:30 with us.Like other Hawaii State parks, you have to pay $5 per car to get in. There are bathrooms, but they were closed/locked when we were there. If you like the outdoors, this is a great stop on Maui.

This place is an amazing hike. You can make it as easy or as difficult as you want. There is a stream there where we saw people enjoying the cool water in their swim suits. We were able to enjoy dipping our feet in the water. If we knew we could jump in, we would have brought our swim suits! We paid for parking at the top. But some people were parked right before the enterance to the park. We are glad we paid for parking because the extra walk uphill would have tuckered us out long before our actual scenic hike.

When visiting Maui, make sure to take the short scenic drive to this beautiful valley. Its a picturesque & magical place where Hawaiians gathered a thousand years ago to celebrate and honor the bounty of Lono, god if agriculture, during the annual makahiki festival. The short hiking trail into the valley of the surrounding volcanic mountains makes for an otherworldly experience, both for its spiritual value and spectacular scenery! When you cross the bridge over the water, make sure to take a photo of Kūkaemoku, the oak commonly referred to as the Īao Needle. When you climb the 133 steps to the top, youll be rewarded with great views of Īao Valley and Wailuku. Took me 25min to climb up.

A nice little morning side trip near Wailuku. Easy to find and you can stop (before or after) at the Friendship Garden park which features sculptures and monuments honoring all the various peoples who have immigrated to Hawaii over the centuries (from all around the world). Iao Valley is very low-key ($5 parking - free for HI residents), port-a-potty facilities; an easy hike, but a variety of trails; a beautiful couple of streams; a rain forest that stays cool and misty; and a garden; along with some history and botanical guide posts.

This was the first spot for us on our Maui vacation and it was a great place to start. Amazing views and a relatively easy walk up to the top. On the way down, be sure to take the path down to the river under the canopy. Its a great place to put your feet in the water and escape the sun. The needle is a really amazing thing to see as well as the Valley itself. Beautiful.

Beautiful short hike. Having knee damage restricts how long you can walk and limit even more the inclines. But the trails are super short and simple. Restrooms were out of commission but port-a-pottys were available. Parking was a bit hard to find but enjoy the place and be respectful when you get there as its already clean.

The park is easily accessible, has good parking and is just a short drive from the center of Maui. There is a paved parking lot right near the viewing point with access costing $5. If you don’t want to pay the minimal fee you can park just outside the entrance and walk in from there. A series of stairs leads you up to a good viewing point that allows you to have 360 degree views of the valley. You can also head down to a stream that is nearby if it hasn’t been raining too much. It rains on average 1 inch per day here so it may be tricky to hit a time in which it’s not clouded over. The view of the valley is worth the nominal fee.

Absolutely amazing scenery. There is little hike to top where you can take pictures. Another one downhill that takes you to water. You can get some amazing pics here.We didn’t expect it to get so windy and chilly, luckily we were prepared. The cascade at the bottom of hike can bring you one step closer to the nature. I enjoyed sitting on a rock listening to the stream.Parking is 5$ and there are limited parking spots. On either side of the entrance and the. if you drive a little further there are few more on lower level near the view point. You can also find some spots if you take a full circle to the entrance on the curve.Mobile restrooms were clean when we entered the park and not so much when we returned. I would recommend going early to enjoy the serenity by yourself. You can easily spend 1-2 hours walking leisurely and enjoy the sights all around you.

P.S.A. First off-Great hiking and picture opportunities. Be mindful of the trail and enjoy it for what it offers. The river is clean and clear, there are pools u can stand in and enjoy yourself. Truly a unique opportunity to view the (mostly) native flora.Be sure when you park in the lot that you take anything valuable with you. Hide any backpacks or anything worth stealing out of plain view. We left our car for an hour and a half and returned to a smashed window and a missing backpack. Obviously this could happen anywhere and we were in a rental car but this is something to be aware of. Locals are probably not too fond of tourists and its always an opportunity to catch someone off guard. The security is minimal and the island relaxed approach extends to law enforcement as well. Im not trying to hate on the park or Maui at all, just be aware of what is at stake and your surroundings. Aloha!

Some trails have been closed off so less to explore. A nice walk to the top, very humid so go during early morning hours. Wear hiking shoes or tennis shoes and comfortable, breathable clothing.Youll see yellow guavas on trees, (you can pick and eat), mountain apples, (in season), and see/smell variety of flowers. The view is amazing. Tucked in a beautiful valley Iao Valley State Park is a must see for those who visit Maui. A 0.6 mile path takes you through and over a bridge that allows picturesque views of the Iao Needle that rises 1200ft over the valley floor. There are plenty of photo opportunities here with the magnificent mountains that tower over you from both sides of the park. Not an overly strenuous walk/hike but there are steps and hills that some may find difficult.Parking is $5.00 per car and even though there are many parking spots on the paved lot, parking fills fast and you may have to park on the road outside the pay booth. We say many people parking on the road and taking the short walk into the park to avoid the $5.00 parking fee.

Unfortunately as soon as we arrived, the rain began and as it was an unexpected trip, of course we were not prepared for the weather. Lush, tropical state park with fairly easy and accessible hiking trails, views, and a rocky stream not far off the marked trails to cool off. Looks like something out of Jurassic Park and feels more like Kauai than Maui. Nice view over the shallow creek was the top of our list of the places we visited on our Maui Cruise vacation. This valley is so green and lush. Being tropical, there is a denseness to the foliage. Views are beautiful and seductive. It is worth to find a place and just sit and absorb it all in. This is a short, but very beautiful walk (easy “hike” on a paved walkway). The views and landscape are stunning. It is probably best to go early for more parking.
