Beautiful walking trails and neat history to learn while youre there. We went and didnt pay for the tour, so we couldnt see the mammoths in person, but we still had a good time of it!
Glad to see this site is now a National Monument. Very interesting (and air conditioned) in situ exhibit. Fascinating to see the diversity of animals that have been uncovered in such a relatively small area. Definitely worth a visit.
Very interesting dig site. The staff was very informative.
Sooooo awesome!
After being sorely disappointed at Magnolia Markets, the Waco Mammoth Site was my place of refuge and it was honestly the best thing I did in my short trip to Waco, Texas and the surrounding areas. Theres nothing more metal than seeing the fossilized remains of a gigantic mammoth right? Exactly, this place was amazing. We took a short walk through the forest that lines the banks of the Bosque River, being stopped every so often to hear the thrilling story of the mammoths who lost their lives existing in this river valley. Once we finally arrived at the final resting place of 7 of the 24 mammoth discovered over the course of 30+ years, my mind was overtaken by the relatively good condition the bones were in. With a little bit of imagination I was able to picture those gigantic beasts spearing a saber tooth tiger in a fight for their lives. The fact that we had a pretty awesome and charismatic tour guide was also appreciated. Shout-out to the guy with the ponytail and glasses, you are a real one. With all that being said, spend the money to go here AND DONATE A FEW DOLLARS AT THE END SO THEY CAN KEEP UNEARTHING THESE GIANTS. 5/5 stars.
Loved it!
