This was my first time there coming from Chesapeake. While they had pretty much everything you could want, they were not as accommodating as I had hoped. I observed that other customers were greeted and offered help but no one said anything to me. Curiously enough, I began to linger to see if it was just me or if what I was feeling was really happening. Sure enough, a man that was stocking the shelves had a good conversation with another customer about different cities and what the fishing is like there, what kind of people the residents are, items on some of the shelves, and so on. As I walked past him he never acknowledged me. Another young man stocking the fridge did the same. Looking around the store, I noticed that they werent overwhelmed with customers. In fact, there were only 6 customers there including myself. I selected a few lures and went to the counter and asked for some blood worms. The young man reached under the counter, grabbed a bag of them and after ringing up everything, he handed me my items in a bag and simply said, Here! Nothing else was said to me by anyone as I headed towards the door and I confirmed what I was feeling earlier. I was the only person of color in the store!! I would have quickly dismissed this if they were swamped with customers at that time but that wasnt the case. The young man at the register didnt even thank me for my business. It felt more like, Pay for your items and leave !! Someone tell me, should I go back?

Me being a professional fisherman for 25 years this is the best bait shop Ive been in by far in Virginia

They do have a wide variety of poles, tackle, bait, nets, boat accessories, lead lines, anchors, hooks, rigs, and the newest line of fake fresh bait. The store is easily accessible via N. Hampton Blvd and/or Baker Rd. The store hours are convenient for most. Lacking that personal friendly atmosphere tho. Some of the fishing poles look like works of art and are priced that way. I cant front tho if it were within my means i too would own a few of those beautiful and rugged poles.

Nice variety of both fresh and saltwater tackle. They also usually have fresh bait and minnows or shiners.

Most really know what they are doing. Ive caught a bunch of fish with their help.

Super staff that are very helpful in both purchase advise and setup of archery equipment. Shop local, support local. It’s worth the trip to get great service. I purchased a crossbow and they were very helpful in training me about the features of my new Ravin.

Normally I dont have any issues with oceans east. On this occasion I purchased 2 poppers for what should have been $14.99 and one marked down to $11.99. I finished paying for the transaction and was handed my receipt to notice that I was charged full price $14.99 for both. I told the guy at the counter who rung me up that he overcharged me and pointed to the sticker on the second popper for $11.99. He then told me that it must be mislabelled and instead of doing the right thing and refunding the second popper and manually entering the payment into the register, he proceeded to make me feel like an inconvenience and argued that if I had a problem with the price he could just refund the transaction completely and I could be on my way. Fishing is an expensive hobby, I should not be made to feel like an idiot because of supposed mislabeling on their part.

The bait shop is awesome have and will continue.to.shop that section. I wont be returning to the hunting section. When I dropped my bow off sunday to add an inch tv my draw length I was promised up and down itd be done by Wednesday. Did not deliver and the staff is clueless,l. I shouldve figured when I overheard one employee ask another what draw length is. Anyway would t recommend.

Love the variety of items and the knowledge of the personnel. Prices are a little high on same items that can be found in other stores. Some items $2-$3 cheaper.

One of the only places I know to get fishing supplies but your pretty much on your own when you are there. I got my fishing license from there.

An anglers paradise! This bait and tackle spot has been a must stop for decades. Aisles and aisles of whatever you need to land your best catch of the season. Centrally located near Norfolk/VirginiaBeach lines close to freshwater and saltwater fishing spots. They carry a huge selection of lures, rigs, rods and reels-- literally just about everything you need except the fish. Theres a huge cooler of frozen bait- squid, peelers, sand fleas and quite a bit more. The staff is fairly friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, Ocean East is definitely worth a stop before you hit the water. If youre a serious angler or just out for a little fishing fun, theres no better place.

I have zero complaints about this place! The folks are friendly and helpful. I have had a lot of questions since moving here, and they have answered them all! The variety of items they have in stock is fantastic! No need to find any other place to go!

The selection of products was fine, but the staff were really aloof and didnt seem to care about much of anything unless they were selling you something you probably didnt need. You can buy the same things here for much cheaper online or at Walmart.

We usually go to the Timber and Tines side of Oceans East. The main guy (sorry, forgot his name) is super knowledgeable and is the only one we will take our bows to for any adjustments or upgrades. He stays super busy so if you need something done be prepared to drop off your bow and wait a week to pick it up. But its worth the wait to have it done right.

The only place to go for fishing tackle and expert opinions. The folks here are always accommodating.

Had everything that I needed, but they overcharged me for a few items. When I said something to the person they were so busy conversing back in forth that they acted as if they didn’t hear me. Watch your tag and what they charge you. Mine was just a few bucks but you can’t go to a lot of places during covid so I just took the loss.

I dont think there are any great tackle shops around here which is surprising considering the world class fishing in the bay, however Oceans East is definitely your best option. Some of their prices are a little high though.

Stopped by to pick up some bait. The staff was extremely helpful as I had not surf fished in years. They have a great selection of equipment. Staff is very knowledgeable and gave advice on what set ups are great with no pressure to buy. Prices seemed very reasonable without the huge mark up you would expect from smaller specialty stores. Have put as a favorite in GPS when I come down to VA beach to fish.

Best place to get anything you need to fish.

About average prices, maybe a bit on the high side but not overly so for name brand hunting and fishing equipment. My last visit there was an abundance of staff but none of them seemed too interested in selling merchandise and more interested in chatting with each other. Also for no reason whatsoever they had an attitude of superiority when it came to discussing any fishing product or technique. These guys might have all been wearing fishing shirts but you dont get a PHD on the local fishing situation by dressing the part and stocking some shelves. If you know what your looking for and are not pressed for time, try Walmart first, youll get a better price and alot less of a superiority complex.

So much tackle, rods bait and gear and a fair price and even repair rods and reels for a cheap price.

Friendly service and a very wide selection of baits. They also carry hundreds of different lures and spinners, you can also get top quality poles, gear and advice on where the fish are biting.
