I had a somewhat bad experience here. The waiter brought a check and asked if we wanted it all on one check and I assumed that was the check she presented and signed it. When she brought the recipet it was for twice the amount that I signed for. I was confused so I went and asked for the check. When she brought it I realized it was a misunderstanding about splitting the check. She had presented me with a check for half but then went to register and put in the full amount. But, I do think its not a good policy to charge someone for more than what they signed for. I think she should have brought a check for the full amount and had me sign for that, or at least explained that what I was signing was half the check. Still, accidents happen and thats not what was the problem. The issue was that the waiter seemed very offended that I had asked to see the check and was rude about it. Its not a bad place the food is pretty good, my advice would be to pay attention to the check and what you are signing for v. being charged for.
This casual bar surprised us as the food was great! Place is simple but seemed to always have people; especially younger groups. We ordered chicken wings to share which were nice and then I got the western burger which was delicious; the quality of the meat was great!!! They had all kinds of local beer brands which was nice. I recommend for a casual friend get together. Prices are average.
Waiting at our table for 30mins. They never brought our drinks that we ordered when we were first seated. Didn’t even bring us water. Just ignored us. We finally just got up and left. We did not feel like we were wanted customers. Very disappointed.
The food is really delicious and the atmosphere is super cool. located right on university with an upstairs that overlooks the popular street makes it a great destination for u of a students and hungry locals. also home to a great dj scene and fun bar. highly recommend
Went here for dinner and was extremely disappointed. I used to go here all the time during my undergrad and loved the food and service. Not sure what happened but the service was absolutely terrible and slow. Which I usually don’t mind because it is mainly college servers but this day took the cake. Unaware of empty drinks on their phone, and talking to coworkers when we needed things. But I think above all the food was disappointing from what I remembered. I’m not sure how tacos can be made wrong but the tortilla was burnt, the rice was undercooked and the presentation was sloppy.I’d usually give any place another try because I’m sure the server was having a bad day or give the food another try but this case when I walked to the bathroom I saw a tall chef with glasses wearing no mask and no gloves while making food. Especially during COVID times this is unacceptable.
Stopped into Gentle Ben’s for a couple of beers and a bike to eat after we dropped off bicycles at Sonoran Cycles Tucson just down the block. We had spent the day riding the loop so were ready to kick back and relax for a bit. The beer list is strong (brews from Barrio Brewing) and the food was excellent. Nicely prepared and well presented. Capped off a great day in Tucson.
Nice bar/restaurant, i go for the Seahawks fan group that meets. Being from Seattle, i really enjoy that aspect
I generally go for the night club scene not the resturant, but as far as that goes I always have an amazing time. The staff is always super nice and its clean. Recomend for good club music for suuure
Awesome bar staff, very kind and accomodating. Great food and drink selection.
Great place to sit outside and visit. Food is pretty good with median prices.
Fun atmosphere. Delicious Reuben! Good service.
Food great as always. Solid Covid procedures. Felt safe and comfortable dining outside on the patio.
Skip the Lizzy. Few morsels of chicken and mostly thick slices of red onion as in you want salad with your onion? Unfortunately I didnt take pictures, I figured the pile on the side of the plate would have gotten the attention of my waitress. She must be used to it since not commenting..
Liked the place! Cool atmosphere and fun! Good college town bar and restaurant!
Great find for supper after the bowl game! The service was quick but our food took some time to get out. It was about 20-30 minutes, but the pretzel sticks and quesadilla I ordered were delicious. Plus its a microbrewery and looked like it had a pretty wide selection. Would recommend for anyone who is near the university and willing to pay $10-$15 for a meal!
Gentle Bens is a FAVORITE of mine! The management and the staff are awesome.
Classic bar scene with edm and some of the best bar food i’ve ever had. The drinks are also always poured just right. HEAVILY recommend for anyone visiting from out of town.
Food was good, service was a little slow, especially since the place is pretty empty due to COVID.
Good food. Good people. Great beer.
Bens is the best place on Uni! The food is amazing and the customer service is always great.
I mainly come here for carry out and most of the time the food is great this was one of those times I was craving a burger and I showed up and it was ready right when they said it would be and it was delicious as it usually is and this time the fries were good sometimes the fries are not good but this time the fries were really really good and all of the people are very friendly and efficient.
This is a fun place w good food and its super close to campus! The outdoor seating is nice (even tho its a million degrees out) since they have misters and shade. Would definitely recommend. They also offer carry out, and mine was ready pretty much exactly when they said it would be! (I recommend the carne asada quesadilla)
Nestled in the heart of the UofA campus life, Gentle Bens has a long standing reputation of serving Wildcats with fordable food and great local beers. Boasting friendly service and COVID-19 practices, its a great destination for a Friday or Saturday night meal with friends and family.
Total Me vs Them mentality from the early 20s staff feeling a need to exert power. Ordered 5 meals while 4 of us were sitting inside, and our 5th person was trying to come in and the unapologetic frat star staff crew wouldnt let her come in without paying $20 even though we were eating and not going upstairs to thrash it down. There were so many empty tables in the dining area. Avoid especially during busy times! The only silver lining was our waitress was nice enough to spend about 10 minutes arguing with the staff to finally get our 5th person in.
What a great find today for lunch! My parents live in Green Valley and after walking around the University of Arizona, we walked around the main entrance looking for a place to eat. Once I looked at the menu, I knew it would suit everyone in our party. We had a great server in Yasmin and she was very good at refilling drinks without being asked to do so and was on top of anything we requested. Great food! My God the pulled pork sandwich was amazing! Loved the atmosphere and the cost was very manageable, which just added to the great experience we had today. When at the university for a visit or just looking for a great place to eat, go to Gentle Ben’s! P.S. - I am kicking myself because I wanted to inquire about purchasing a shirt before I left. Well, there is always next time!Bryan P. McNamaraRoseto, PA
Food is awesome and service is great!! My new favorite place!
Did not like food on a weekday afternoon. (per request from the owner for details: ordered a chicken taco where the chicken in it were too salty to taste, and my colleague ordered a burger which apparently had some hard rubbery piece in it. We also had to wait for about 10 min at the front desk for some one to guide us to a table to sit. Over all did not like the experience. It was my first time, but I appreciate the owner writing back here and so, hope to have a better experience/ food next time. Thanks!)
Tasty food. Busy place. Really made an effort to get my order out quickly as we as a group were on a time limit. No problem for separate checks. Helpful and friendly staff. College environment. Lots of bustle. Night life is lively and fun, especially weekends. It is right by the light rail. Clean bathrooms. Worth a visit!
Good Irish coffee. good tortilla soup. Nice on the first day of cool weather. Nice service. GB has been a fixture for three 40 years that I was an undergrad and its still a place for me to go. Hooray for tradition.
Amazing! Ryhm was an AMAZING server she was so curious and she was so sweet and so amazing I swear! I highly recommend because of her she MADE our experience
During COVID, experience was nice we sat outside although hot they had misters on. Food was made fresh and was delicious.
Ive only been in Tuscon for two days and Ive been here twice! The beer is great....atmosphere is fun (especially on trivia night)...servers are attentive and personable. Great experience!!
I stopped here once a couple years ago and I loved their mocha stout so much. I came again today, and the stout is still delicious, lighter than I remember it. I tried the raspberry ale and it was also delicious.More importantly, I tried the food this time and found some really yummy things. The brussel sprouts appetizer was to die for. I will get that every time I go there - so good! The wings were ok, but not something Id get again. I saw the artichoke dip go by and was instantly jealous, it comes in a giant bread bowl and looks amazing. Also saw the nachos go by and they looked like a nice big pile.Service was speedy and kind despite the full house.10/10 would recommend.
I havent had the food but the drinks are always awesome
Great food. It can be a very busy place. A lot of college students eat there. It can get very loud. My wife and I go there about once a month or more. They always have something relevant on the TVs and you can also ask them to tune to a specific sport, but most of the time they have what you want to watch on already. The staff has always been nice and pleasant. Occasionally, when they get slammed they get behind. That is totally normal for any restaurant though and the food has always been worth it!
This was my favorite spot during undergrad. As of right now, I would suggest not buying food from Bens until COVID is over. I’m not sure if the stress of the virus is leading for the employees to not pay attention or what the issue is. Last week, I ordered carne tacos and first, I went to pick up my meal and as I opened the box at home, it was not tacos. After, i decided to call and explain the mix up and when the server offered to have the right order sent to me, I agreed. However, the tacos were extremely gross. For some reason there was way too much sauce on them. The rice and beans were extremely salty. Nothing about my experience was right besides the offer to send the right order after the first mistake.
Food was unremarkable, but the server was outstanding. Cody anticipated our needs, in a very professional and appropriate manner. I will return just because of him!We will be there next week for the lecture series, our 8th year.
Great, fast service! I recommend the nachos!!!
Lauren is the best bartender! Richard, the owner is super friendly and kind. Great food and amazing drinks!
If you like large portions at a fair price?... This is your place. Craft beers. Juicy burgers, friendly staff. Right on university. Great dining experience!
The drinks and the food are super delicious.
Always reliably good food and service. They do outstanding at accommodating our 15+ Meetup group on Mondays or Tuesdays when we come here some months. My favorites are any burger or the Rueben. Often I can eat just the appetizers as they are all great.
The new place is oddly sterile. Beer was good, but nothing very unique on the menu, and definitely not plant-based friendly.
Chris R was absolutely wonderful and was knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended some great stuff and made sure my friends and I were taken care of. Super nice and we will definitely be coming back!
Tonights visit was simply for the dessert! Three of us shared the ice cream, brownie, cookie dessert - I think it was called the grizzly ($11). It was HUGE! Weve been before and always like the food and the beer selection is good. Great atmosphere - they recently remodeled the interior. Not sure I love the new look though.
It was yet another great experience, the bathrooms are cleaner than you think they would be, service is great with drinks, they over price you a bit with drinks, its easy to get up to the stage
Awesome food, responsive helpful staff, and the patio was killin me softly with its marble counters and moody lighting! Loved the buffalo sauce. Wasnt fond of the avocado tacos, wayyy too little flavor and too much fried grease, Id recommend getting that without the fried batter, just fresh avo. But everything else was bomb and we cant wait to go back! Parking is a little tricky but so worth it!
Great atmosphere and good food
If I can give this place a negative stars, I would certainly give them. The food is absolutely terrible, service was bad, the manager in particularly argued with me regarding their policy and she kept on insisting that she and this entity treat everyone with respect and doesn’t discriminate with anyone even before me implying that I was being discriminated. I felt like I was being singled out and discriminated after that encounter. Clearly their staff are practicing this prejudice behavior. It felt as if they were discriminating against my skin color. Hence I would give negative stars to this place if I can give them and I would advise caution if you were to decide to go there.
Food is tasty, the place is really has a comfortable atmosphere but the staff are not that nice and there was a delay!
Love going there for happy hour sharing a plate of nachos. Their nachos are awesome.
Really good place to sit out on the patio, even in the summer. Awesome menu! Food was tasty and they have a good selection. I didnt have one of their beers but Ive been told that they are fantastic.
Service was good. The chicken quesadilla I ordered was horrible.
Great service, great food, good beer selection and pretty girls everywhere! As a bachelor, it was divine! Kid you not!
I like the fact that the owner responds to comments and for this reason I will be visiting Gentle Bens today - and of course provide a review.
Cant say anything about the brews as I didnt have any, but the chicken quesadilla was delicious. It had a nice subtle flavor, not overpowering, just tasty. U of A is not in session, so it was pretty dead. But the people who were there were very pleasant and easy going.
Gentle bens has not been a brewery for a very long time. They moved the brewery to toole ave and changed the name to barrio brewery. Gb is still a great spot to drink barrio beer and have a winderful meal. Try the black and blue burger with a nolan porter.
Came here for the autograf show. Great atmosphere on a Saturday night.
Good food. Nice service people. Slow service.
If you are looking for a decent hamburger Gentle Bens is a decent option. Prices are competitive with other brewery style hamburger places in Tucson. The portion sizes are filling without being heaping. While not the best hamburger Ive ever had, a hamburger here is probably in the top 25% of hamburgers.
Quick service and descent food
Great food, and customer service, aswell as the atmosphere
The staff stays ready. Wouldn’t go anywhere else on Uni for a good time. A Kardashian staple in Tucson for a reason.
The bartender is AMAZING! VERY ATTENTIVE and CUSTOMER SERVICE is Outstanding!@
Fun place - many different beers, good food and good service. Right next to the university, so a very busy place on the weekends.
Nice location. It was hot though, misters blowing too high above my head!! Food was typical bar food. Buffalo chicken tenders were over cooked and too much breading. But its close to campus so the college crowd probably doesnt know the difference! Prob wont be back.
Look like they recently renovated this place and it looks great now. The staff was friendly and attentive to our needs and the food that we got was definitely solid. They have a decent beer selection and this place is a nice spot in downtown to grab a few drinks and unwind.
Good Atmosphere.. they have an indoor and outdoor area. There is also a second story for events. What stood out was the staff. Every single person there, from the security to the bartenders, even staff that was off duty and grabbing a bite/ drink was friendly.
Great place fast service very clean
Excellent IPA, so-so ceviche, and oddly inattentive service given how few people were there at 4:15. We waited quite a while to order and finally had to work to get someones attention.
Super busy. Per usual. But got 6 of us us in and out in timely manner to make our show. Shared nachos and spinach artichoke dip. I enjoyed a taste mojito. Light and refreshing.Good staff.
Love the tortilla soup! The tacos are just okay. Good beer selection! I like the Citrazona, NCAAle, Stout and Porter. Maybe I just like beer in general
Great service wonderful food.
Great place next to the University with fair prices on most of the menu items. Of course, being right next to campus, the crowd is often students and later at night it gets very noisy, but the food is great. Their Ruben sandwich is the best Ive had, and you cant go wrong with a pazookie for dessert!
Good service and the food us quite good.
Fast service. Pleasant wait staff. Nice selection of beer. Good crowd, all ages. Not noisey. Able to hold conversations without raising your voice
Good food and service. Apparently they are working on their decor...seems like a dining hall at this writing 8/2019.
One of my favorite places to eat when Im visiting the U of A. Food and service are always tops.
The guy that sat us was extremely rude.
Nice patio, large place with plenty of seating, but everything feels very generic. There is no real vibe here. Not sure what happened, but over the years Gentle Bens had lost its identity. It isnt terrible but there are so many other breweries and bars that have a much better vibe that I would avoid this one.
Dios a nd servicio Godó. Yo Louis, for colledge students.
They increased the prices in view of the new students and parents coming to UofA those who go there regularly understood. Bad tactics by management to get more money. :/Edit: Manager Richard responded promptly and rectified the miscommunication among the waiters. This time, it was a pleasant experience and we took this group selfie with him! :)
Friendly and accommodating staff, with great food!
They made great accomodations for our group. The food was great and the service was outstanding!
Drinks are expensive but it is a convenient location. Usually get a salad but they’re almost always overdressed and soggy. Trivia is a fun perk on Wednesday nights and the desserts are usually pretty good for the price.
