I had a wonderful experience at my Y. I have not worked out in quite a long time. I was excited to start but even more encouraged by my Trainer, Danielle. She was supportive, very clear with my instructions and just made me feel like there was no reason i couldnt do this! I am even more excited to start working out again! It has been several weeks now and anytime I have a question about any of the equipment, there is always a trainer there to help. I a, looking forward to getting healthier!
It’s fun to stay at the YMCA No but seriously, this Towson location is awesomeness! Clean facilities, polite staff, kids pool, yoga classes, rock climbing wall, smoothie bar, family changing rooms! Perfect for this tired mom. Now if only they could dig into that big field and put in an outdoor pool...
I just love this place. Everything is always extremely clean from the gym, to the pools and restrooms. The staff is super helpful and pleasant. And there are a multitude of activities and classes that are always happening. Basically, theres something for everyone regardless of the age. Worth every cent.
We LOVE this YMCA. The staff knows me and my five children by name, and when we walk in to get or temperature checks, it is a common occurrence to hear Mr. Ivan or Mr. Bill say “here comes the team!” Mr. Matt knows everyone by name, as well as all of our amazing stay and play staff: Ms. Ayana/Camryn/Nani/Taylor/Madison/Grace/Edna, etc! Ms. Amy always keeps me informed on the mo they activities, and I would honestly say we spend at least 5-6 times a week at the YMCA whether it be for my workout or for an activity for a child. Highly recommend!
Im grateful to have a safe place to swim during the pandemic. The Y has found a good system and I am able to swim every week!
The classes are great; the scheduling is accommodating to working adults; I feel good about my kids hanging out - whether in the pool, Rick climbing, playing basketball, playing in the game room - it’s a safe environment; the staff are super friendly and helpful; and during COVID I love that they are offering outdoor classes.
I’ve been a member of the YMCA in various states for my entire life. Twenty plus yrs ago when we moved here from out of state I was disappointed at the management, the director and of course the physical building at the time. Since then everything has changed for the better and I’m glad to see how VERY conscientious they are regarding germ control, social distancing, wearing of masks and cleaning of the equipment. Very impressed to see that there is someone always walking around cleaning the equipment thoroughly with disinfectant after it’s been used. These same practices are being executed in the pool area as well. The smaller exercise rooms are closed and so is the child care, but this is understandable for now. Very impressed with how the YMCA has taken a serious approach to keeping everyone safe who enters and uses their facilities and I’m not surprised. We have always had a good experience whenever there was a need to ask for directions on the use of equipment/how we should be doing certain exercises etc.. The trainers are always willing to share what they know (unless of course they’re working privately with a client) The check in people are friendly and your always greeted with a smile and HELLO. Our family uses the facilities on a regular basis, even now during these trying times of Covid 19. Our personal practice has always been to come directly home from the gym and shower. Now during these times it’s more important not to make a quick stop into the pharmacy or the grocery store etc before reaching home to shower. That’s just something I’ve made a priority. The Y is doing everything within their powers to stay clean and safe and so should we. We’re thrilled that the YMCA of Maryland and Towson have gone to such lengths to keep the facilities open and clean for the good of the community not only for the physical activities they provide but, how being active affects us mentally as well, and we all need this more than ever. We’ll support the Y however we can.
I recommend people all the time! I absolutely love it here at the Y in Towson. It is neat and clean, and has plenty of equipment. I go early in the morning and always have the space that I need. Also, the price is very affordable! I feel like I get my moneys worth. I will definitely keep this as my gym!
The Y is the best gym for a family friendly environment. It’s so clean and plenty of space for social distances. Thanks Y!!
Wonderful Towson facility!! The Y is clean; staff friendly and instructors for the aqua and land fitness classes that I take are excellent. Reasonable monthly fee and my experiences have always been positive. Like that you can also receive text messages if there is a change in a class due to weather or other circumstances. Very pleased!!
The ymca has done a great job implementing safety precautions. I felt very comfortable attending.
My daughter loves iy
My family absolutely loves the pool at this Y! We all enjoy coming to swim together on Sundays. Love that they have a water slide and even a fun kiddy pool section for my younger ones. They also love the rock climbing wall! This Y is always clean and the employees are so friendly and welcoming.
Great centre, clean and large facilities and a smoothie bar too!
Great place for family weekend, kids can learn some lessons and have fun. Adults can do some exercise. All of us enjoy there.
This ain’t your grandfather’s Y. Well, it still sorta is. The facilities are modern, equipment is up-to-date, and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. It’s always clean and the facility is well-maintained. Plus, it’s still famously family-friendly and reasonably priced. What more could anyone ask for?
Clean, professional and beautiful facility!
Love this Y! Beautiful sun-lit main room with all the amenities and very inclusive. Have been going here for a few years. This past Wednesday, I rolled/badly sprained my ankle getting off a machine and a woman named Ore-Ofe was absolutely incredible and so helpful! Brought me over ice and a cane and waited until a family member could pick me up. Her manager was just as great, helped me file an incident report. Ore-Ofe called the next day to check on me. But they are all really lovely people! Also love the smoothie bar. Could not be more happy with this gym.
They you for an extra month after you cancel. I cancelled in August and they are charging me until October.
Do not sign up online! I signed up online on a day I was feeling well with the hope that I would go. I never went once. I’m already out almost $200 and now they said I have to come in to the gym to cancel. I tried to explain my situation but they have NO understanding of chronic illness! You would think a non-profit that’s “helping” the community would have more understanding. If they charge my account again, I will be disputing it with the bank.
The facility is always clean. The equipment always in good working order. the staff is friendly and helpful. The pool is amazing.
It was a wonderful place, I had a great time
The Towson Y is a wonderful place to exercise and workout or just hang out. The Y provides a great community service. Your dues or contributions are a way to back to and show you really care about people. Great facilities, equipment, staff and environment. Many group programs and lots of help to keep your wellness program give on track. Join today and improve your life and community!
This is such a great place to work out. Everything you need, very friendly and helpful staff, clean and green (but not mean). So very fortunate to have this local resource!
Enjoy visiting this location. The staff is friendly and there are lots of fun activities for all ages.
I always feel welcome and like I am part of a community. The facilities are great, and very well kept. I have always had a positive experience when dealing with the people at the front desks. My kids really enjoy the playroom and it’s staff, and they LOVE the pool! I have been working with a trainer twice a week and he has been supportive, attentive and professional. I actually enjoy coming in to work out! Thank you!
I love this Y. Orokawa is warm and welcoming while still great at letting you get in and out efficiently, if thats what you want. If you want to stay and chill, its great for that, too. Good classes, nice pool, well-staffed gym, clean, pleasant, and delightfully diverse. Did I mention that I love this Y?
Great place! the staff is very nice and helpful. Clean place. Well kept.
You have very good equipment, and I was especially pleased with the instruction I received from the trainer named Brian. Brian was friendly, patient, very accurate with his instruction and provided me with a list of exercises we covered along with the proper settings for each exercise.
We are here for the swimming pool mainly however it is busy most of the time for swim team, senior activities, etc. While we understand that this is for everyone, we could not always find a lane to swim either morning or evening. And that throws us off. So, if you are impressed by their swimming pool and want to join, RETHINK. Come in different time and observe before you sign up because they need 30 days notification for cancellation (ie they still charge you one month after you cancel your membership).
This is a very well kept and well maintained campus. There is a lot of activity and the staff are very friendly and professional. I have visited several other Y locations in this area and this one is my favorite!
We’ve been members of the Y for more than 2 years. As a family with younger children, we were so excited to see the kids pool with fun amenities, stay and play is always a blast and we love the classes offered. The rock climbing wall is a blast as well! Well designed exercise rooms showcase the latest equipment, an all around great facility!
The facility itself is very nice, but the pool was disgusting. Ive been to the Towson Y before to swim and the water was clear and the walls were clean. Now the water is foggy and there are stains on the pool floor and walls.
Always welcoming, always safe
Great place to workout with lots of equipment, a pool and classes for all levels. Staff are friendly and helpful. This isnt the first gym Ive gone to but it is the first one Ive gone to regularly. Highly recommend!
Staff and members are very friendly and helpful. Tremendous range of group activities, at all hours of the day. Trainers have impressive credentials. Facilities are modern and complete.
Stay and Play employees (especially Tamara) are AMAZING and work hard to make sure parents and caregivers can get time to keep themselves healthy. They take great care of my kids and helped them overcome separation anxiety. Facility is clean, staff is so nice, great place for families.
My first time at this location I felt very welcomed the pool was an awesome experience. The facility has a very exquisite layout which I truly enjoyed and the people of the community were very pleasant the Y was very easy to find. We will be returning thank you YMCA for meeting all of my needs and my family.
Clean, fun, and friendly. The Stay and Play option with the family membership makes it so easy for me to go to their Zumba classes or work out in the gym, and my kids LOVE the stay and play areas. I really wish that we had gotten a Y membership sooner.
Great place to exercise, in classes or in the gym. Very friendly, and expert help is always available. I start off each morning at the Y and have made many new friends here.
A perfectly executed enterprise !All it offers functions like a spoke on a wheel !And all on the staff “get it” !
Our family loves the Orokawa Y. The pools are clean and well-staffed. Fitness equipment is regularly updated and always kept spotlessly clean. The kids stay and play has been a lifesaver this summer--our 4 yo loves going there for her 90 minutes a day during the week while I get the freedom to do my workouts. My wife loves the classes--they have an amazing range of classes with great instructors, from spin (cycling), to Les Mills, to yoga, pilates, and more. Swim lessons for our kid are great, too. Shes learned to swim this summer thanks to some wonderful and very patient instructors who pushed her just hard enough to make huge strides in the water. Weve actually placed proximity to the Orokawa Y high on our list if priorities for our next residence.
I am thrilled by the staff support I get at the Y. The team members are all so helpful, dedicated and kind. I never feel judged and always feel like they care about my health goals. Im so happy my husband signed us up!
Because of the Y facilities, I find support from the staff and trainers, access to equipment and physical activities for my family and myself. Without the Y, my body was aging, and I was becoming limited in my capabilities. Now, I exercise regularly and my body and mind function better because of it!
Every time we go to the Y in Towson we always have a great experience. While my kids are busy climbing I’m working out in the gym. Everything is always clean all equipment is up to date. People are friendly and there are so many activities that are available everyday. If there is ever an issue they are quick to address it. I absolutely love this location. You can tel the manager is very attentive to everything and everyone.
Wonderfully diverse community of users; great facility; attentive and caring staff. The work with my personal trainer has been critical in preparing for double knee replacement surgery caused by years of folk dancing and exercise. I love exercising and making new friends at the Y!! I am involved with several nonprofit organizations and I love the Y the most!! I will really miss it while recovering from surgery!
Love this place, not only for the up-to-date and well maintained equipment, the excellent instructors and trainers, and the most helpful staff, but for the positive vibe I get every time I go. Uplifting and fun!
I had been a member a few years ago and when I read joined recently I was pleasantly surprised with all the new classes, features and offerings. I took a Barre class and enjoyed some Wild Kombucha, my favorite! The equipment is in great shape, staff and members are kind and helpful. It’s a great place to workout!
I never learned to swim as a kid. Since my nephew wanted to learn to swim before he joined the Navy, I decided we would take lessons together. We started with Level 1/2. He left for the military shortly, afterwards. I decided to continue with Level 3/4. I am now starting my final lessons, Level 5/6. The instructors are great, very attentive to teaching and making sure we are progressing. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. It has been a great experience.
Super friendly staff, competent instructors, and clean facilities.
My daughter took a Hip Hop dance class. The teacher was patient and knowledgeable. She made it fun for the kids. Wonderful experience.
A wonderful facility with experienced and professional instructors, fun and welcoming environment
An absolutely miserable experience trying to check out this YMCA location last weekend. The front staff could not have been more rude when we tried to check out the facility as guests in order to evaluate if we wanted to join. After spending 20m trying to find a parking spot in the abominable parking lot, the front desk staff essentially kicked us out (along with our two-year old daughter who was super excited to do some swimming) and sent us packing. This made our decision whether to join or not easy enough and look forward to never going to this YMCA location again; If youre thinking of joining, think again.
Highly recommend this Y as a go to very friendly employees and well-kept facility totally would give this place five stars 10 if I could
Large facilities great programs and staff.
Front desk gentlemen in the morning are very welcoming - Steve and Mac!
We love this place my family and I feel safe and comfortable
The facility is lovely and clean. The staff are always pleasant. There is a great variety of group exercise classes.
Water exercise classes and instructors are wonderful!!
Clean, spacious, up to date, variety of fitness classes for all fitness levels, something to do for all ages of life, lanes in pool for lap swimming... what a great fitness center with everything I look for in a gym at an affordable price!
It seems like a great value for our family. My spouse regularly goes there for exercise or yoga, and my son has been learning to swim in the pool there. I just wish the Y closer to us had a better pool so that we wouldnt have to drive all the way out there. The only thing we havent liked is the guest policy. We brought our nieces from out of town, hoping to swim one afternoon, but were told they couldnt use the pool. We would have paid for passes, and the pool was hardly being used. Wed already driven out there so they had to sit on a bench and watch my sons lessons. It just seems like a nonsensical policy.
They are wonderful at Towson. They help you design a custom workout just for you.
We love everything about the Orokawa Y in Towson! From the people to the programs, everyone in the family has found something rewarding and fun to do!
A safe and fun place!
Love the pool and the sauna!Best swimming pool in town!Love the sitting area with the fireplace.Always clean facilities, friendly staff and no overcrowding(except on Sundays..)
Its a reasonably priced family membership with so many activities to do with my young boys. Its not just for working out, but for an active lifestyle in general.
We joined for the family atmosphere and less intimidating than regular gyms and Im glad we did! We just came to our first Family Fun Night....everyone had a blast! The facility is clean, emplyoees are knowledgeable and friendly and great place for the entire family. The pool is the main attraction for my girls :-)
Love the Y! You always feel like family here! Come often enough and everyone will get to know your name! Great place great facilities -- especially since the upgrade from the dungeon! Lol I used to work here for 13 years prior to the reconstruction. Wish I would have never left seeing that my children loved their programs!Best places I ever worked! There are 3 people still here from that time- Glen in nautilus, Barb, a fellow aerobics instructor, and Dan who can no longer work but its great to see the people who remember you!
Excellent staff and personal training.
Great family friendly place to go.
Staff are always friendly & Greet you with a warm welcome ! Love the variety of classes and the gym, locker rooms and pool are very clean . They have a great shake bar with some lunch items as well. My kids look forward to coming each weekend they rock climb, play basketball and in the game room. Julies Thursday morning body sculpt is seriously incredible and a great workout ! The gym equitment is also very nice and new . I highly recommend them !
My favorite Gym.
The Y has been a huge part of my fitness journey. I love the classes, the staff is excellent, and theres plenty of equipment. Throw in the pools, and the sauna, and its the best gym Ive ever belonged to
Family pool is great fun for the kids. It is a bit small but has not been overcrowded during our visiting times. The lifeguards are nice as well.
This place is awesome. In my experience the employees have been super friendly and chill, the members cool and relaxed and the facility not too crowded. The new facility is clean, spacious and modern looking without being pretentious. I am very pleased to a member since 98 and look forward to many more years of membership
Wonderful open floor space and setup
Great facility, very clean. A lot of options for classes.
The kiddie pool here is AWESOME! However, when I put my 2 year old son in Stay and Play, the first and only time, when I went to pick him up to go to the pool, I found him wondering around in the hallway by himself!!! To make matters worse, the “caregivers” and one of the mothers checking her kids in (who admittedly was responsible for letting my son out) dismissed my concerns. I was not irate by any means, even though I’d be justified. Finally, I was given my child without having to provide any identification. So, I basically found a child in the hallway, signed a piece of paper claiming he was mine, and left with him. I would STRONGLY discourage using the Stay and Play at this location.I will only be using the kiddie pool in Towson. I’m down in Ellicott City, and really love the staff and facilities at Catonsville and EC. Highly recommend those Ys! The staff and clientele are much friendlier and less pretentious.ETA - I was never contacted regarding my concerns.
The place is better than the city ones
It is one of the best Ys in Baltimore County!
The basketball court is never open. What is the purpose of having all those open rooms and closing the basketball court to do zumba and so on... This Ymca is a joke. Save your time and go to LA Fitness
When its not too busy, the Y is a nice place to visit. We love the family swimming pool and appreciate the size of the family changing rooms. They do try to keep up on the cleaning, but people are gross so the changing rooms can get really bad at certain times of the day. We really like the classes there and the staff is mostly friendly.
Sadly, Ive found the staff to be less then satisfactory. Ive had several issues with the terrible scheduling of classes and many cancellations in the past and I tried to get past them. The staff seem less then helpful. Its a shame that this center was so nice when it opened, it is already declining. It seems like it is not being cleaned efficiently, the floors are rather dirty, the mens locker room smells, yes I get it locker rooms smell...but this smells like mold and just dirty. It doesnt look as if they are doing daily cleanings of the locker room. The family rooms are usually filthy. I have found dirty diapers on the floor and once it appeared that someone urinated in the shower and all over the floor, the entire room smelled of urine. Its a shame that they cant get a nice staff or maintain this center. The first year they opened it was great but its going down hill fast. Ill be returning to the MAC soon enough.
I love that I can exercise without worrying who will watch my daughter !! The pool is great and always clean!! So many actives to do through out the year!! Great place for the whole family!!!
Just joined and love it. Finally a place we can not only exercise but have fun together as a family.
Looks like a really tremendous location for working out and swimming. Numerous classes offered to get the blood pumping. Also a Stay & Play feature offering child care for up to an hour and a half. And cheaper for the family than the two classes we previously paid for for both our children!
Overall, a great facility. Clean, well staffed and outfitted, and modern. However, my problem is that lap swimmers get the short end of the stick with pool allocation especially during the summer when the pool is essentially used as a playground for campers. Not only are there minimal lanes for lap swimming, the lanes are regularly interfered with by kids who dont know any better (Ive actually been jumped on top of twice while swimming), adult members who think that lap lanes are okay for wading, socializing and generally not swimming laps, and lap swimmers who think that circling (3 swimmers + per lane) is okay even when others in the lane are literally 4 times faster than them.If it wasnt for the frustrating lap pool issues I would give the Orakawa Y a much higher rating.
The Towson Y is incredible...they could probably charge twice as much and people would still go. But dont!!
Wanted to try the gym for a fam of 4 and was told there are no free trials, $10/per person as a guest. Screw yall, there are bigger and better facilities out there that will give a day pass.
Friendly community place. I come here as much as I can and almost always run into someone I know. Smoothie bar is a great feature, and so are the virtual reality stationery bike machines. Locker rooms are generally clean. I do wish they would bring back the red towels.
We started with swim lessons and will end up lifetime members. Simply an amazing community center, gym and pool.
They do a great job watching our 4 month old!
Very friendly !!!! Unlike Weinberg building on 33rd. Im closer to Weinberg but go out my way to Towson bc their facility is so much better!!!! I recommend this to everybody thats wants no nonsense!
Its a nice facility and staff has been great with one exception, and I dont see her around any more. Its really unfortunate that the family pool is closed due to unforeseen circumstances so frequently. we try to go twice a week and usually have to cancel because we get the text alert. I often dont feel like we get our moneys worth for this reason - if you have to close the pool more than twice a week, its time to do something about it.
Wonderful facility and very welcoming to families.
Nice new facilities, polite staff and environment. My son & daughter loved the Summer camp. Diverse population of members & employees. Highly recommended.
My car got stolen here even though Iwas careful like always. But the issue is the management doesnt even wanna know how youre doing after that. They promise someone will call you. But they never call you. If you talk to one of the managers about it, she gets defensive. It would take her a while to grasp how careless they are. They have too many members. So they cannot even care for one person at a time. When I cut myself while I was working out, they didnt even have their first aid kit ready. I got a little bandaid w/ no A.S. after waiting for about 15 min. I was still bleeding.Of course, the facilities are already falling apart. Their family showers and locker rooms are filthy and broken. When my kids were swimming with their friends in the swimming pool, one of the staff was screaming at a parent. I didnt think she did anything wrong. Even if she did, why would any staff scream and yell at a mom in front of the kids? If they did that to my wife, never mind.Over all, I doubt if they care about their members. They dont seem to know that its all about people. Stay away unless you wanna try and regret when things go wrong.
The Towson Y has really made winter enjoyable for the family with all the facilities. The staffs courtesy is top level especially these days. Only bad thing isnt really a bad thing for the Y, but it is always crowded. Favorite part are the pools, and the pool staff...shout out!
Good swimming lessons for grandkids, good lap swimming and workout opportunities for me, generally a good, friendly place
