LOVE this museum. As a pilot myself, this is the best airplane museum in California. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stop by. Very cool.

The small museum has a few unique jewels of the aviation with several supersonic aircrafts, including the amazing YF-23. You can sit inside the cockpit of a F-5 supersonic fighter, enjoy some awesome prototypes carefully curated by volunteers. Enjoy the awesome F-14 or a fully operating harrier. Bring your kids and enjoy this small but awesome flight museum. Arrive early, they close at 3PM.

This museum sits right on a small airport, so the kids or yourself can watch personal aircrafts take off and land. Its a small museum, but full of history. They even have a library.

Nice little museum - all done through volunteers, very informative, many topics. You can sit in an actual fighter jet and take pics as much as you want. Bring a picnic as they have a sitting area - you get to see all the planes take of from the Zamperini airport! Really cool!

Location of YF-23 is a total let down. Together with a YF-17, F-14, A-4 & a T-38 at the eastern end of the airfield in a fenced up area, all exposed to the California sun. Rest of the museum comprises of a Saber, Harrier, F-5 & couple of early drones.

What a terrific gem! It isnt the largest aviation museum, by any means, but it has some rare treasures on display, for example one of two YF-23s ever made. Some of the aircraft, like the YF-23 and a YF-17, are on a back lot; ask nicely and a volunteer will show you around. There is also a large library with innumerable aviation books and a very fairly priced gift shop.If you are in the area and even slightly interested in aviation, then this is a must see museum.

This is a great little museum for Torrance run by volunteers. There are a number of planes, displays, and videos. I even was able to sit in F5 fighter and was amazed at all the controls pilots had to deal with. Really enjoyed the video about the Torrance airport development over time. Location has free parking and you do not have to fight the Los Angeles traffic.

I love it here. Its awesome that a local museum has one of only two YF-17s & a YF-23.I love the books Ive bought there too.Its a great place to come & learn some history about aviation. The Staff are friendly. They love their Museum & want to answer questions, so ask away.Im also glad it found a home here when it had to move from Hawthorne Airport. Very glad Zamperini Field welcomed them.

This is a great little museum with some nice pieces in it. A lot of models and planes in the main hanger. Across the way in the other hanger is a harrier. The harrier was very nice. You can take pictures of everything. The volunteers there are very friendly and helpful. At the end of my visit they told me to drive down to the end of the airport. There were more planes over there. An F-14, a YF-23 and a few more. If you like aviation then this is a good place to visit.

Interesting but very small. Some of the displays are on loan so they may eventually be moved. It has potential if they could build a larger facility for what they have.

Review №34

I came her specifically to see the YF-17 and the YF-23 I didnt know how rare they were and I didnt know that the F-14 next to them was the F-14 in the movie top gun and so was the other marines aircraft they had. we were lucky to be able to see those planes up close thanks to the staff there I was able to. A very charming and nice veteran took me and my dad to see those planes and explained everything about the planes. there was an F-5A totally intact and there was a short line to enter the cockpit. there was somebody who explained a few things in the cockpit and how to takeoff etc etc... the gift shop was cool there were a lot of model planes. there was also a harrier jump jet and a F-86 sabre. overall I think it was a 10/10 experience mainly because of the rare planes and the very kind staff I got to talk to them all. if I could give this place more than 5 stars I really would.

There are many exhibits to see. The space section is expanding! You can sit in a fighter jet or find books on air history in their gift shop. A five dollar donation is requested for adults. The volunteers are enthusiastic and able to answer questions. There is also a talk once a month I find very enriching.

This place isnt very large, but if youre into planes and flight in general, its interesting. If you have kids its good for them to be able to see some real aircraft, some of which they can climb into the cockpit and play with the controls. You can also sit along the runway and watch small planes fly in and out of Torrance Airport.

My experience was horrible. I dont know even where to begin. At first I believe the museum was going be great, yet I was completely wrong. There was a tall black fence which was lock even though it was well pass opening hours for the door to remain unlock. There was a dial box adjacent to the door which you had dial in order call for someone open the door, yet no number was posted in box you for the front desk so that was useless, but lucky for me someone was coming out and open the door for me. You have to dial 111 to call the front desk to let them know you want to visit the museum. I was given this number already once inside the museum. The day I visit the Western Museum of Flight it was on a weekday and it was well pass 12:00 pm, yet only 3 hangers were open for viewing. The YF-23 prototype nickname Gray Ghost was nowhere in sight. I must have seen the whole museum in less than half an hour. The older people will leave you be once you are inside the museum they wont follow you around, maybe perhaps because their old and tired. Overall not the best experience I had in a museum I’ll give this museum a solid “D”

The more famed planes, the YF-23 and YF-17 are held in a separate place, so ask them about a drive (free) to the place to check it out before it closes at 3:00PM. Staff was friendly except the lady at the counter.

I dont get a lot of opportunities to sit in an F-5A jet. That was a total treat! A relatively small museum, the volunteers were very nice and knowledgeable when it came to talking about planes. Especially the YF-23 prototype. I learned a lot going there. The only downside would be the fact that the YF-23 was not near the museum. Instead, pushed to the corner of the airstrip behind a fence. I would have loved to take a closer look at it. None the less, it was a good time for me.
