Not crowded like most Gyms. Everyone is there with only one Goal. Great work out atmosphere. Definitely getting a membership here.
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! BEWARE OF MEMBERSHIP RACKET! Do not sign up for a membership unless you want to jump through hoops to get out of it! The billing department never answers the phone OR returns calls when you leave a message and no one is ever at the service desk. I was given wrong info, specifically told when I signed up that my membership ran from the date I signed up to the following year and to cancel by THAT date. I remember because I specifically asked and wrote it on my calendar. Now, I finally got someone to answer the phone and he tells me that their membership period runs from April 1st -March 31 so Im stuck with memberships fees until 2021! AND it doesnt matter that theyve been closed during that time for COVID, nothing reimbursed, no exceptions, no apology, just out of luck. I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager and was told that they dont take calls!? I honestly never leave bad reviews, but this is just ridiculous!
I became a new member 3 weeks ago and wish I would have signed up sooner. Great work out facility, awesome 18 holes of golf!!
I want simply state that my general overall experience with Great Life (GL) was a pretty good one. The concern I have is one that should also concern any member of GL. All they are concerned about is the bottom line$$$$. They can truly care less about your overall safety especially as it relates to the Covid 19 pandemic. Once the gyms were allowed to open, I asked a couple of people at Berkshire if floor fans would remain off and unavailable? They both advised yes, that is a good idea to help contain the spread of the virus. Eventually as people began to let their guard down, so did GL. They continued to allow floor fans in their workout area. ( Think about it....if someone is asymptotic and stands in front of a floor fan, what do you think will happen???)Anyway, I tried a number of times to email anyone at the corporate office. Finally, someone from the office reached out and advised (paraphrased) that you can turn off the fans so long as it doesn’t bother anyone else.....What? To make a long story short; I reviewed some online information which stated floor fans in gyms should be avoided due to the potential spread of the virus. I went one step further and contacted KDHE, (Kansas Department of Health and Environment). They too stated floor fans were a potential problem for spreading the virus. Ceiling fans were okay as they forced air DOWN. I shared this info with GL because the response from the membership coordinator asked if I had any supporting documentation or information regarding my stance. If so, then it could impact our decision. This obviously didn’t sit well with GL so they sent me a letter closing out my membership. They stated: “Members come to our facilities to enjoy the amenities we have....each member has a different level of comfort when it comes to Covid” Really, you would jeopardize the health of countless people just to hold firm on your stance? Furthermore, prior to the virus you supplied hand sanitizer. After reopening you supplied some for a couple of weeks and for a month or more you have failed to supply such AMENITIES. I only post this because I feel an obligation to inform others that may become exposed. Just saw online info that 14 more deaths in Kansas due to the virus. Kansas has been elevated for several weeks. BE SAFE PEOPLE.
Do the members know how to fix a nall mark? Based on what I saw today that would be no.
The carts are the highlight of this course. Nice, challenging, and lengthy course. Will get 5 stars depending on the condition this summer. Seems like GreatLife has a lot of projects to finish.
This is one of my weekly courses, fun course, but they could maybe water the fairways more, Brooke is an absolute great person in the proshop, always friendly.
Small course. Mostly flat. Fairways were pretty bad, but they were laying new sod.
Course is in generally terrible shape. Fairways are just a mess.
Great Life will tell you anything you want to hear to get your money. They lie to you! Than use the nonsensical contract you signed to keep extorting money from you.Do not believe anything Jane, the so-so golf pro, tells you!!! I am a handicapped American who was guaranteed that all ADA requirements would be met for handicapped golfers. I play golf from Florida, Scottsdale, Arizona, and California. Great Life breaks ALL rules when it comes to ADA handicapped requirements. Every course I play throughout the United States have welcomed handicapped golfers. NOT Great Life. And when I called to have Jane explained Great Lifes position, she hangs up the phone on my wife and I. Absolutely NO objectivity. Great Life just wants your money!Stay away from Great Life. And if you want your children to see how to fail in business, just sit down by the front desk and listen to how customers are treated!
Love the place! It is Well kept, there is very friendly staff that always seems happy to help with any questions or concerns. location is kept clean and tidy. Parking availability and accessibility was great had no problems finding and assessing parking, as with the inside, the outside of the premises was kept nice and clean, location is easy to find, typically always able to get right in when needed and if needed get right out. Overall very pleasurable experience and would recommend to anyone.
Might be the worst golf course in the entire city. Maintenance is nonexistent, teeboxes are in the rough. Not playing here again.
Im so disappointed in the fact that I cant do a group exercise if the schools are closed for bad weather. Why? Im not a student and I had to go to work today.
Good gym, needs updated. Too old and looks kind of nasty in the interior
Course is in great shape.
Very poor customer service. Casey from the downtown location was rude. I Inquired about general questions and he began to get an attitude, When he was asked what location he was at he beat around the bush until I asked for the physical address. I then called corporate, which is the Shawnee County country club, and Josh had no empathy or interest in the matter saying “uh... okay” then proceeded with his response.Maybe making customer service a priority will help with this “growing” business you want people to continue to support.
We had a golf tournament here, we were very pleased with the facility and the staff. We will definitely hold another tournament here in the future.
The course has been in better shape in the past. Winter and spring was hard on it. Hopefully it will come around with rain and warmer weather.
Whomever runs the golf course maintenance should be fired. This course looks pathetic and sad. This course could be just as nice as Cypress or Lake Shawnee but, due to management it’s fallen apart. It’s a crying shame how sad this course looks and has been maintained. Whomever does should be ashamed at what they’ve ruined.
I recently interviewed with Greatlife. First interview was with Chris Hubbard and he insisted that I have a 2nd interview the next day with another manager and the owner Linda. The interview went amazing both days and Linda told me at the end of it she for sure wants me working for Greatlife and gave me the employment packet to fill out all of my w-2 and w-4 info, etc. Linda told me to get ahold of Chris for my start date and rate of pay as soon as I got all my paperwork filled out. So I did. I even gave them my checking account info, DL, and social, because I was hired. I also got Albion’s of Chris within the next couple of days to see when he was going to be letting me know a start date and he told me it would be a couple of weeks because more positions became available so he was trying to place everyone. So as I’m waiting for the next couple of weeks I called him on exactly 2 weeks from the date he told me it would be 2 weeks and it seemed impossible to get ahold of him. Then I finally got ahold of the other manager that I interviewed with and asked her what was going on and she said she had no clue due to Chris being the hiring manager but she went ahead and texted him immediately and got a response from Chris immediately that said “not hired”!!!!!!! I honestly could not believe bat they would do this to me because they new I have a son and the simple fact that they told me I was hired and gave me the employment packet to fill out and turn in with all of my information! Chris had no explanation for the reasoning and told me that it wasn’t his decision that it was HRs. Lol which I know he was lying. He completely wasted my time and money. I could of already had another job lined out to start but instead was waiting for him to get ahold of me with a start date!! It’s definitely a blessing that I don’t work for this company because it’s obvious that they’re very unprofessional, and are doing things to innocent people that are 150% unacceptable!!! He could of let me know that they weren’t going to hire me before they told me I was hired and had me fill out all of their employment information. Never in my life have I dealt with such pieces of work when it comes to management at a facility. I truly hope Linda fires Chris because he is a terrible asset to the company. I mean it definitely doesn’t look very good to have an obese male managing a fitness facility. It’s a bad representation for Greatlife and this guy has clearly taken his management position to his head an ran with it and thinks he can rip people around in whatever way he feels and feels no remorse when he’s doing something negative. If I could give this place NO STARS I WOULD!!1
Played this weekend and the course is in terrible shape. Wasn’t one good hole. More dirt than grass. Tee boxes were even worse. Better to play out of rough. Would not recommend any time soon.
I attend the gym. Its 24 hour, outdoor pool, so its only open from Mwmorial day til the end of August. Its a small gym, but has both cardio and weight equipment. Theres also a sauna. I find that they run out of towels for wiping down the equipment, which is frustrating. They have a golf course but Ive never used it.
Decent gym could be updated
Mediocre course at best. The staff are nice.
The golf course is in mediocre condition. The course layout is long and challenging and is fun to play.
Im not a golfer, but I work for a nonprofit and plan fundraising events. We love working with this course and golf pro Joey for our events. Always very helpful and the events turn out great!
Great place to play
Nice challenging course. Excellent fitness center.
Wow, where do I start? Golfers beware, this course is in unbelievably bad shape. I was visiting from out of town and paid $43 on the weekend to play 18 with a cart. The fairways and rough are so bad I was sick of the course after a few holes. Great Life has owned this facility for some three years and seem to put most of their money into the fitness center. I didnt use the fitness center but it looked okay from a distance. They also have a pool. If you are looking for a new place to golf and are curious, save yourself some frustration and go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Also, you wont get a refund (only a course credit) if you pay for 18 and stop after 9. Consider yourself warned.
Great Golf Course! Be better if they Quit letting Big Groups on, on the weekends!
Today I had an 11:04 Tee Time. I was by myself. I arrived at the clubhouse just before 11:00. There are large windows in the clubhouse overlooking the #1 Tee Box, the #9 green and the #10 Tee Box. There was one group just teeing off #1. Another group of 4 waiting to Tee Off. I was after the waiting foursome. Since I could see no one on the #10 tee box and no one on the #9 green nor the # 9 fairway, I asked if I could start on #10 vs. #1. And, I totally understand not allowing others to start on #10 as there is a chance of cutting in front of a group making the turn. She said No, I have others making the turn. Again, I looked out the window and saw NO ONE MAKING A TURN! Perhaps she saw something on her computer that was not visible out the window. And, she was very mesmerized by her pc. Thats fine, I said. Ill wait on #1 tee box and proceeded. And, I waited, and waited and waited. And, I waited. During this time, I looked back at the #9 green and #10 Tee Box. It was as bare as the Sahara. After twenty three minutes had transpired, I was finally able to tee off. And, still, NOT ONE person had entered the number nine green. And, of course, another threesome was waiting behind me. So, instead of filling in the back nine, she chose to pack up the front nine. I (a single player) played, actually waited behind the foursome the entire front nine. After a threesome joined me at the #15 tee box (again, while waiting for the foursome to tee off) I looked at my watch, 3:08pm. OVER FOUR HOURS TO PLAY FOURTEEN HOLES!!! I pulled off the course and went home. I know, the foursome should have asked if I would like to go ahead of them as almost always happens. However, if the lady at the club house had been less focussed on her computer and just looked outside the big windows at the real world, she would have seen things differently. I frequent Lake Perry, Berkshire, Western Hills and Prairie View. As a solo player, I am very seldom refused to start the back nine. Perhaps I should just stick with these courses. AND FINALLY, This is the only public course that bans personal golf carts. Sad.
Good rates for golf! Course maintained ok!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the equipment. The Facility had balance and options...
Loved the pool !!!
Played this course for free with an old voucher they honored. Thats the only reason for the 3 stars. I would have gave 2 stars. The fairways are horrible and the roughs are extremely deep. I had a guy on a mower follow me on two holes to with in 20 yards of me getting ready to hit. The staff is decent. There is no way I would pay full price to play this course again. Greens are extremely hard and very very fast. Being placed in the middle of the not-so-good part of Topeka, with all the loud car systems around, I feel they greens fees with a cart should be no more than $20 since the course is not very well kept.
Joey and grounds crew have been great to get course up, and continue to do so.
If you try to get a membership, do not deal with Mr Josh Bergers. He will talk down to you like you arent smart enough to comprehend a membership plan. Also, grounds are terrible and courses are bad, either that or grounds keeping took the year off!
My family and several others from our neighborhood were looking to change fitness facilities. I had gotten some phone numbers off Google and i gave them to one of my neighbors and asked him if he wouldnt mind calling and getting rates for all of us since he is the Fitness Guy among the group (that way we didnt have 6 families all making the same call). Were in a homeowners association, we get together every other week so i figured he would give us the info at that time. When we got together again, he showed me his call log, he had made several calls over the course of 2 weeks and never got to talk to anybody so he emailed the location and he got emails back from a JOSHUA BERGERS, this person was simply condescending. He acted like my neighbor was stupid or something, he said the phone numbers were wrong and then he accused him of calling the YMCA instead of Great Life, telling him they werent affiliated, etc.. etc..etc... I personally looked up those numbers and they were listed as numbers for Great Life. My neighbor looked them up and got the same numbers i did. He emailed JOSHUA BERGERS back to let him know there were obvious issues with the numbers, thinking maybe JOSHUA would realize there were listing issues via google and make the corrections (which would help his business considering we cant be the only ones who have called the wrong number, this could cost them 100s of members over the long term). Instead of JOSHUA being grateful he comes back with more stuff telling us we were wrong, then starts questioning the math we used to come up with the losses they would sustain by not getting us as members. This goes back and forth, we provided screenshots of the Google pages which proves we called the numbers that were listed...we also sent him back the basic math that shows what we would have spent if the numbers would have been correct. Do you think he had anything positive to say to any of us who were reading these emails? NO! Theyve already lost no less than 6 families at over $530.00 a year per family (over $3,100.00 a year total)...but i guess they dont need the money because once we proved we were right, he has had nothing to say to us.
I was very upset with my interaction with Mr Joshua Bergers. He spent more time trying to correct me rather than looking into issues i pointed out even after i proved the issue with facts!
Great course! Joey Martinek gives great lessons there.
Thats Greatlife business motto. Cheap membership and all the courses Ive played are a dump. Serious golfers will pay more for a course thats in good shape. Waste of time!!!
Bad course conditions, no golf services. No merchandise.Omerchandise.Only food offered are hotdogs. So sad to see what was once best course in Topeka.
Good gym for weight lifting and various cardio machines. Currently improving mens locker room
Average golf course that is getting much better since they striped zosia grass in all the Fairways. . Layout is the best in Topeka
Great place to work outGreat place to work out .. one thing is after hours they need to place out more towels to clean the machines with after use. There wasnt any. :(
Hit it off season, so not at its prime.
Terrible course don’t take care of fairways and tee boxes
If you want to be treated like you have no brains, email them and ask questions, they will make you feel stupid. I got an email from Mr Bergers who made me fee like i was completely stupid.
Locker room is great, but the showers leave a lot to be desired.
I love there Gym ! Its open 24 hours !!
Joey makes the golf experience very enjoyable!!
