Terrible experience. Signed up for a membership before COVID closed all of the gyms then tried cancelling during the first 7 days. It was impossible to cancel so I finally sent a letter in the mail with no response. Continued to get billed so I cancelled the credit card. I’ve called the gym about 20+ times trying to get it figured out, spoke mostly with Oscar and recently with JD who said they would speak with the managers and get back to me but I never heard back. I’ve called asking to speak with the managers specifically and have been told every single time “she just stepped out”. After being sent to collections and paying $100 to cancel, I think it’s safe to say I will never recommend Golds Gym to anyone ever. Worst experience, terrible customer service.
I really love this gym. Just joined. I am super happy with the membership Jonathan helped me set up. The facility is clean and there is a TON of equipment! A bit busy in the evenings but mornings are not so bad! Highly recommend!
My daughter called to have the annual fee of $50 waived. The gym has been closed due to Covid .My daughter has lost her hours at her job and to think during a time like this that a manager at Golds gym would not waive this is disgusting.I see why there is such a low rating on this website. They have lost a customer for a lousy $50 .Wow great customer service..Shame on you .Managers Frankie and Irv (if those are their real names)
This company is terrible! Given the global pandemic, they didnt offer options for those who may have pre-exisiting conditions, pregnancy, elderly or other issues that were fearful of contracting COVID-19. Instead, they would much rather keep your money and tell you to take a hike. Never in a million year would I expect a place that champions health and wellness, to not care about ones health that could be life threatening. Never going back and be forewarned if you wish to join.
Canceled my membership in February. And they made me jump through hoops to do so, and then daily made harassing calls to me about a $20 cancelation fee they claimed I owed. When I contacted the manager Nicole to resolve it, she refused to send me a bill in the mail, and insisted I give her my credit card number immediately. I refused, but then mysteriously a charge of $150 appeared on my credit card in July from Golds. And theyre not even open because of the pandemic! I had to submit it for a fraud dispute to my credit card company. I dont ever write reviews, but I was just treated so awfully I had to say something. Really egregiously bad business practices.
They charged me for a month during the pandemic. I told them I couldn’t go because I lost my job and am at high risk of covid. They refused to give me a refund and also demanded $100 to cancel my membership. They are rude and do not care about their members. I will never be returning to this dirty gym.
Dirty gym and no proper hygiene during a pandemic? This gym is getting worse and worse...
The gym is very nice but, the sales people there are pushy . You sign in with a coupon or Groupon and they sit with you for 3 hours sale you membership without giving you the chance to try the place first. Asking some weird questions and do not let go. It made me feel very uncomfortable.
I have been a member at this gym for 12 and a half years. I have had several issues: people consistently occupy equipment to chat, make calls space out for 20 minutes, listen to their music all while occupying equipment other customers could use. Golds trainers reserve several machines at once! Which means paying members cannot use them! This is a small gym with limited numbers of equipment. Some members simply save machines while they walk away for ten minutes to chat or use the bathroom! They become irate if I or someone else rightfully assumes the machine is vacant. I have had to leave without completing my work out too many times because I do not have an hour to an hour and a half to wait around to make sure other members have a good leisurely visit.I have asked staff many times if signs could be posted about time limits on equipment. The response is always noI have on a half dozen occasions witnessed maintenance staff mopping gym floors with filthy black water...The stationary bikes in the cinema room have been out for over a month...The only reason I have kept my membership this long is the convenient location. I will be checking out the new LA Fitness in Newbury Park when it opens soon.
They have a sign that says masks required at all times. About 50% of the people are compiling and there is no enforcement. Also no clean towels to clean up. In the middle of a pandemic? I won’t go back.
Clean place n have jacuzzy big saunas steam n drys, really better than la fitness n 24 hours besides have movies while u work out,,
LA Fitness, 24 hour fitness, planet fitness, and every other gym I could find in a 100 mile radius has much better policies than this place. All we wanted to do was bring our 14 year old son with us so he could decide for himself whether he wanted to become a member and start regularly going to the gym with us. We have been members for nearly a year and thought a membership would be a nice Christmas present for him but wanted to just make sure he was into it after a singular day of trying things out.We were told they cant guest pass him even one singular time. We were told by multiple employees and a manager that the only option was that he would need to become a paying member immediately. I explained that they have competitors in the area which do not have the same anti-customer policies and was treated like I was lying at first.I immediately looked up LA Fitnesss policies on my phone and found in their terms that they give guest passes to anyone over 13 as long as a parent will sign a waiver. I waited for a manager and when he came out I explained what they did and offered to call LA fitness in front of him, but he said there was nothing he could do as he doesnt get to make any decisions / only corporate does.I decided when we got to our car to test the policies of other gyms in the area. I called 24 hour fitness, planet fitness, and LA fitness on our way home to check and confirm each of their respective policies and all 3 of them have a polar opposite policy than Golds Gym has. All 3 of them wouldve allowed us to guest pass in our 14 year old child.Golds gym is literally the ONLY gym we could find that makes anti-customer policies and has a management team that is incapable of making decisions for themselves.
Overcrowded, overpriced gym filled with incompetent staff.
Im never disappointed at Golds because they deliver results. With there equipment and classes I lost 110 pounds and packed on 25 pounds of muscle. I like the types of equipment they have it gives you that bodybuilder look. Other gyms dont have the equipment they do, the staff here are very helpful and the manager is doing a great job very clean and well run. How can you argue with results.
This gym is alright. Nothing wrong with it but the bathrooms are kinda gross. Other than that, it has he most gym equipment out of any other gym in the area. Hours are alright too. The maintenance team was quick to address the sludge in the showers, but they should be cleaning more regularly. Good gym overall.
Great place to work out. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Good atmosphere and clean.
I recently visited as a hotel guest member. Easy sign in process and front desk associates were nice. Gym is like an Express location as its much smaller than a normal Golds. Some machines theres only one of them. Bathroom was clean
Good place. Talk to Mike he is the best person to talk to
Nobody has the authority to make a decision or the person that does is never their. They have been charging me for months on my account that was frozen. Dont waste your time on customer service because you wont get any results. Also every time I spoke with someone to try to resolve this matter that person would leave and someone new would be there. I guess turnover is a big problem. You cant get anything resolved because theres always a new person to deal with. Tried several times always a different story from Golds employees on what I need to do.
Trying to cancel my membership due to a job transfer and it is proving damn near impossible. I called and was told I need to cancel in-person. Went in-person and was told I need to come-in during the day when a manager is on-site. Cant do that because of work, so I was told to email one of the managers. I sent the cancellation email, and never received a response. It is a good gym with decent facilities...but damn, cancelling a membership is harder than leaving a cult.
Enjoyed my time here but sadly seems like thats coming to an end. Been coming here for months with my husband and friends when my 14 year old son asked if he could get a membership as well. My husband and I thought it would be a nice gift but wanted to bring him in and show him the ropes, to make sure we werent getting a third membership if it wasnt going to be used.Unfortunately they have an odd Guest policy unlike any other gym Ive been a member of (LA Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, Planet Fitness) which states that you must be at least 13 years old to have a membership but you have to be 18 years old to use a guest pass. So even though my husband and I have been paying members for months, our 14 year old son cannot workout with us even once as a guest, to see if he wants to become a member. It was explained that he either signs up with a membership today or he cannot use the facilities. They claim this is a legal / insurance issue but every other gym just asks that a parent or legal gaurdian over the age of 18 sign liability waiver for the guest and accompany them. This seems like an insanely better policy than pay for an extra membership now or cancel all of your memberships. Horrible business practice and a great way to lose paying members who otherwise would have been here for years. Will be looking into switching back to LA Fitness as soon as possible.
I got a personal training session with a trailer called Diego and he was very nice and professional, if you want a good personal trainer ask for him
If you join this gym you will be so screwed. My husband cancelled his membership on the 2nd of the month (mostly due to horrible customer service at the front desk and floor), and because he didnt cancel it on the 1st they are deducting two more months of the membership fee. If the person was the slightest bit decent they would have honored the close-to-30 day notice. They also have hundreds of terrible reviews on Yelp and Google and they dont seem to care. That alone speaks volumes to me.
Gotta be the filthiest, nastiest gym.Towels are a joke. Sanitary conditions non-existent. But if wanna contract something...hey, go for it !
Great gym. I was a member back in 2008 and all of the equipment has been extremely well maintained. Highly recommend this gym for its equipment and atmosphere. Definitely a must visit for a hardcore lifting enthusiast
I brought my 15 year old to work out with me and the reception desk told me he had to be 18. But if we wanted to open a membership for him, then he could enter. If you can pay, you can guest. (I hold a membership am allowed a guest). Theres too much competition out there for you to act this way @GoldsGym
Really good place to stop by and get some exercise
Great gym equipment and good trainer
Towel service was sold as a benefit of membership, but after a year they said my membership doesn’t cover that. It’s another bait and switch to get me to upgrade and renew my membership. The result is less people getting towels, and an unhygienic gym that gets people sick. Why does every gym need to hustle and scam like this?
I chose Golds Gym for the beautiful pool. Although it has only six lanes, I have always been able to access one to swim laps--no matter what time of day I arrive. Clean and well organized!
Don’t go to this gym if you expect to be treated as a valuable customer. I’ve been a member for almost a year now and repeatedly left comment cards at the front desk asking management to update the class schedule. It’s been almost 4 months since my original complaint after showing up for a class that was cancelled but still on the schedule there haven’t been any changes. The front desk worker told me multiple people have complained but management does not care enough about its customers to update it. The golds gym employee was even frustrated about it!! This is a horrible way to treat customers and the reason why my spouse and I are probably going to switch gyms now that our one year contract is coming to an end.
Great gym. clean and have good machines. Very friendly staff. I wish their dumbbells went a little heavier and they had the right stand for the heavy dumbbells but that’s just knit picking. Love this gym.
The company policies of golds gym are horrific in comparison to all of their competition. They are the only singular gym in a 100 mile radius that have such piss poor policies and a management team that would rather people cancel memberships than even attempt to remedy their horrific policies which are completely polar of the policies featured at LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, 24 hour fitness, and others.
Where the beautiful people go to get ripped. Great trainers, amazing facilitys. This place is what keeps me a stud at 44.
Any other gym you can find in the area has much better policies and management than this one. Literally any other gym in the area except this Golds gym here will have better policies and a management team that goes out of its way for you.
Love this place. Lets just say EYE CANDY.
I went in to sign a friend up but they told me if they aren’t a member they need to be 18. But if you are a member you have to be at least 13. Not only that I also payed for a monthly plan but they tried to say I was on a 1 year policy which was just incorrect.
Great gym and trainers! I worked with Matt Mickey for two years and had amazing results! Would definitely recommend him and the gym to other people!
Friendly staff. Clean place . Unlike other gold gym dose not have the terrible smelling sweat. Keep the great job of keeping this place clean. 5 start
Tried to use a 30 day pass, mailed to me ..to encourage a friend to go regularly. The kids at the front desk said that since I was telling them I had no intention to join before experiencing the facility, & having been told to come sit at a desk.. they wouldnt be able to issue a pass. Worse than car sales..you dont walk into a gym, to expect to sit.
After having experienced a different local gym in the past, (I wont mention the name) I must say that this gym, Golds, is absolutely top notch. Always clean & maintained very well. It has every piece of equipment ever wanted/needed. A great long lap pool. A big hot tub/jacuzzi. Spinning room. Daily classes, FREE!Stylish wooden lockers in the locker/shower area. Only one area of improvement that would be nice here would be a larger, more spacious locker room. Space in the locker room gets a little cramped depending upon what time you visit, but, its manageable considering this is such an overall fabulous club/gym. Space is used for the essential part of the gym, so its understandable, especially considering this piece of real estate is located within an outdoor mall...the Janss Mall. The CARDIO THEATER is what I call an over-the-top awesome feature of this place. Its an indoor theater containing: 9 stationary bikes, 7 treadmills, & 7 elliptical machines all enabling a gym guest to view the movie of the day that continuously loops through the day. A new film each day. Its a great way to pass time while maintaining your fitness. The front desk staff have the friendly, hospitality of a 5 Diamond hotel, in my opinion. Everyone wants to enjoy life, be happy, & feel good, so, a perky, smiling, warm, greeting upon entering (& often upon leaving) is a positive contribution to a persons day!I hope my fellow Google Maps users find this review of value. Peace, joy, & prosperity!
Gym is really nice. 25m pool, sauna, locker room, lots of free weights and equipment. No bumper plates and only 2 squat rack, not including the smith machines would he only negative thing. They also have lots of benches and a indoor cinema that has other cardio equipment in it so you can watch a movie while you workout. Weights do float around and the order gets thrown out of wack but other than that a really solid place to workout. Website offers a week free trial so you can check it out for free.
Meh. Way too busy although I was able to snipe the things I needed efficiently, 3 times, during a 7 day trial. I think the gym options in the area are just so this is one of your few choices. I thought some of the staff was kind and helpful and some just seemed miserable and rude.
Love it! My workout starts with the treadmill in the cinema, which I love it that I get to watch movies while I workout. Has a lot of machines to workout but I wish they have more to workout the abs and the back extensions one.
Customer service people contact me at the same day .Appreciated treat quick actsThe problem as been solved.Thx
Let me preface this review by saying I was a gym sales person and general manager for 11 years. The gym is beautiful and clean. The real stars are the staff. Tylor and Jay are great. Tylor reached out to me immediately after I opted into and online promo and Jay continued follow up promptly and via my preferred communication method. He was on time for our appointment and did everything to respect my time, understand my goals and provide me with the membership options I was looking for. He put up with my questions as an industry insider to make sure I was being sold what was advertised. He was transparent with his answers and very respectful. I am excited to hit my first workout!
Matt Mickey, a trainer at Golds Gym in Thousand Oaks, knows how to change lives!!!! Our daughter, Mary, has been working with Matt Mickey since the Golds Challenge in mid-January of this year. She has lost over 110 pounds in eight months by following Matts nutrition and work-out plans. Matt constantly changes her diet and work-out plan as she reaches her new goals. She feels better than ever and she is gorgeous!!! Using the Golds Gym facility in Thousand Oaks and following all of Matts advice, Mary has sculpted her body and changed her life...Thank you Golds Gym. Also, thank you to the staff at Golds Gym for encouraging Mary to reach her goals...She is almost there!!! Pat & Mike Hanley--Members of Golds Gym Thousand Oaks
More of a country club than a gym. One squat rack for a membership of thousands... you do the math.
Man I wish I could give this spot a big fat 0 on stars. I have been lifting weights for over half my life(15 years or so) I have never really had an issue with this place until today. First of all the leg area was closed for about an hour this morning for cleaning . Then when doing my personal record deadlift, I was approached by a trainer who couldn’t help but bug me about the weight and how heavy it was and bad for me. What a joke. After that I was doing box jumps when the “Lead maintenance” guy got all up on me about using chalk in the gym. So you are going to complain at me about doing your job? I have never been so frustrated with a gym in my life. Time to go back to the old school powerlifting spots if this bs continues.
UPDATE on 3/6/2018I personally went to Golds gym a few weeks ago and cancelled my membership, stating numerous reasons for my unhappiness with this gym. So they decide to harass me daily with calls, call my phone number daily. I call back, make a note and tell management to take me off their list. They decide to continue calling and continue to harass and harass. As I stated to management, I am building a clear case of harassment and will slap them with a lawsuit shortly. All evidence on file, every call recorded. Every phone call is noted, in fact they just called again at 10.15amLet the damages grow, their loss, my gain. ...and please do not act surprised when a third party serves you at the T.O. address, this is your making.ORIGINAL COMPLAINTGolds has the most incompetent billing department . Rude and unprofessional front desk staff more interested in collecting a $20 late payment fee because I was waiting or my new Chase credit card in the mail. Instead of fixing the issue, this was all two ladies wanted to talk about. NO SIR, you have a $20 late fee, we need cash or immediate payment, you need to come down to our office. So when my credit card arrived a day later, I drove down to the gym, filled out a one page document. Please cancel immediately. Not interested in returning until this company learns some common decency towards paying clients.
Great gym, friendly staff, excellent trainers. Very nicely appointed, towel service, cardio cinema. I go there several times a week at different times of the day and have always been happy with the gym. Changed from 24 hour fitness where they would only fix equipment once a threshold of broken equipment was reached. Golds fixes equipment as soon as it breaks. Been there for two years and will renew for another two. Rob Godwin is my trainer, very knowledgeable and motivates you to succeed.
I placed my account on hold during the winter due to my schedule. They promised to charge me $12 per month during the hold. I check back 3 months later and they acknowledge the hold but continued to call me everyday stating I owed hundreds.I actually had to sue Oxnard golds because they would not close my account. Bad business practice and management.
Their policies are bogus. You can never get a straight answer for these people. You call and one representative tells you some thing then when you come in, its a totally different thing. Super unclesr an annoying. Save your buck and go to 24/hr fitness.
Equipment old/rusted. Lots of loud squeaking on machines and grips. Music is bad and it plays annoying ads constantly over the loud speaker. Other than that, it has a great diversity of equipment and isn’t too crowded in the mornings. Needs smaller dumbbells such as 7.5 and 12.5s.
I thought I was signing up for 8 training sessions that I could use anytime and they signed me up for a recurring monthly program of training sessions that cost over $500 a month. When I realized it, they would not return my money (over $1500) even though I never used a single session. They are total scammers.
Golds Gym has repeatedly failed to meet their contract with us. Not only has this been going on for over a year but they have lied and lied time and time again. All we wanted to do was cancel a membership which led to oh we cant do that on the phone, you have to come in yourself. Oh we cant do it, a manager has to do it. Oh the manager isnt here come back in the afternoon. Oh the manager cant do it, you have to call ABC financial. INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The city should shut this organization down. Its worse than a drug cartel. DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR BUSINESS.
Terrible cancellation policy. The equipments is badly maintained and new LA fitness just open nearby. This gold gym isn’t worth it
This place is ridiculous, Matt the fitness consultant here refused to honor a groupon i just purchased claiming that my i.d. needs to have a local address. I explained to this brain surgeon that i just moved here and can show him mail i just received (to validate this) with my local address, And he told me this is not exceptable. I purchased a membership! Ive never had a business refuse to take my money. Unbelievable! Its a good thing there is an abundance of gyms in the erea, apparently this one doesnt like to make money. Or perhaps they need to train their employees better in the art of common sense.
They keep this place really well the employees are really friendly and helpful just watch out for the one man in the Sauna who tries to hit on you very uncomfortable every time I want to go down there to relax he wont stop talking to me propositioning me.
They totally lied to us! We bought two 3 year memberships back in 2011 with a verbal that we would be able to renew for $199 a year for a life time. Today is when the renewal was due....they said they would no longer honor that verbal agreement. They are a bait a switch company. Try Spectrum...we are!
Wow is this place run by high schoolers ?? I waited in the lobby for 25 min before leaving this arrogant, establishment. Learn some customer service, douchebags working up front
Ive been working out at this gym for 2 years. Before that I had a membership at 24 hr fitness in T.O. I prefer Golds because it is cleaner and the machines are newer. Most of the staff are pretty friendly. I like that they have a towel service. The cardio cinema room is nice when you want to do your cardio and watch a movie at the same time.
Very nice gym. I hardly ever have to wait for equipment. Even during busy hours.
Awesome, friendly staff. The place is always spotless. Towel service!!!
I have been a member for going on Ten years now and recently found out that Golds of T.O were signing up new people for a much better deal than i got almost a deacade ago. So i went in to talk with a salesperson and in a nice and professional way was told they could not match the deal that i was told about. He didnt deny that deal was made he just told me he could not do the same for me. So rather then go from what i was paying to a lower amount they went from what i was paying to zero. Can someone please tell me how that makes any sense. The new person didnt have to sign a contract so the odds on that person staying at the gym for many years is doubtful, but they have no problem letting go of someones buisness who has been paying them for 10 years, and who will now pay a new gym. Great buisness plan Golds!!!
Nice gym not great on equipment maintenance
Pretty good equipment. Mediocre pricing
In the past 8 months, they have taken out additional funds from my account on three separate occasions, totalling almost $400.00When you call to speak to a manager, they are never around or return phone calls. They dont have a billing department. If you finally get some where with an employee the reversal of charges is stopped and management will say the employee was mis-informed. They have done nothing in terms of customer service or customer retention. They are very quick to take out the charges and incredibly slow at crediting your account back. Nothing short of theives.
I am an original member, so 15 years. It has been mostly very affordable as a result.I have asked 4 or 5 times to have the machines worked on, the audio and video on many machines are really bad. Some havent worked for months. I never get any feedback. Very unprofessional. The mgnt here clearly cares about one thing, pressuring people to buy personal training hours. They get the females by making them feel bad about themselves. Very unethical high pressure sales. Every 2 year renewal it is the same thing, the mgnt guy who would never look at you or remember your name, all of a sudden is going to do you a favor and let you join again. The gym etiquette is really poor. People linger and camp on stations and machines when the place is extremely busy. Some people sprawl all their stuff and consume a lot of space. The cardio theatre has had poor audio quality since the day they put it in. You cant hear half of what is said in a movie in there and the video screen resolution isnt very good either. They do have some very good instructors and some good classes and the equipment is what you would expect. Unfortunately the mgnt treats them really badly, like commodities. Also the mens changing area is too small and the showers are in bad need of repair. It is well past time for me to move to a new gym.
Great Gym but they need to kill the locker room music before it kills all of us!!
Clean, lots of machines, classes, tanning, pool, hot tub, steam room, showers, complimentary towels, plenty of personal trainers and friendly staff. At times it gets crowded, sometimes not enough machines, when it gets crowded.
Golds gym charged my card for payments I didnt sign up for I specifically said Id like to cancel my membership and Im in another state I wont be attending that gym. They charge over 300$ in my account instead
ALMOST ONE MONTH . And they canT fix a simple leak ? One shower stall is has been broken for 10 days.the supposed clean towels are yellowish and smelly. What is going on ? You ask in the front desk and they keep sayin two or tree more days..
Favorite
Golds has the most incompetent billing department of any business I know. In addition to going back on their word NEVER to raise our rates again, they did just that, so when we terminated our membership, they kept charging us. Beware of this company. Leaving them is like trying to get out of a time share.
Great gym
The place is a rip off... They gave me this Sign up for free on Fathers day... They then billed my card $450.
I was going to join the membership today but the people who worked in the reception and membership department are not friendly. So I didnt join.
Nice
Clean, friendly, free cinema, classes, everything you need!!!
Nice facility, most of the time crowded, pool had WAY too much chlorine and when I told management they corrected it in the following week. Price for membership is too high
Sucks.
Fantastic people
Good gym; great trainers.
