Ive been going here since I was in elementary school. I love this place so much that we actually got married here last month! The staff is wonderful, kind and accommodating. The whole place is beautiful and well maintained, yet still completely natural. A wonderful place to take your kids or just go on a hike- or get married!

A great place for a day with family. Onsite cultural advisor . School tours with guides who know the true history of the Chumash and if you are lucky will tell a story. Gift shop reasonably priced with cultural items hand made by Native Peoples of the area. Clean and plenty of room for a picnic.

Great local museum showing the culture of the Chumash Indians. Exhibits are well crafted. Special events (when they have them) with interactive activities such as beading keep kids interested. The museum is small and can be completed in an hour or two if there are no special events.

If you have any interest in archaeology and indigenous Californians, you cant pass this place up.....Ive been to quite a few museums and cultural centers and this place really takes the cake. They have dozens of exemplary displays of chumash artifacts, including arrowheads, jewelry, talismans, cookware and ceremonial items, it is hard to find such elaborate exhibits and admission is only 5 bucks....boom.....The museum is located near the village of Sapwi, the traditional name granted by chumash ancestors, and what was later lang ranch, (Aka Thousand oaks in modern times) certainly worth a visit!!!

Went here for a anthropology class field trip years ago. The man running the museum that day gave us a tour of a sacred area. Was an honor to be apart of. While he was touring us around, a massive snake showed itself going up between some boulders. That was a good day. I thank the museum for a wonderful experience.

Outstanding indigenous museum - but I hope they expand and include more exhibits. I look for museums like this, but for some reason, it took me awhile to notice this one. The museum stands on the site of a large Chumash village. Check for lectures, special exhibits, and more.

The Museum is both a museum and a cultural center of the Chumash. Besides the tours of this Native Chumash site, there are terrific displays and actual Chumash artifacts in the main building. The Museum also promotes Chumash culture and Chumash art through various events during the year.If you want to learn about the tribe with the largest land area in the state of California of native people and their rich history you have to visit.

The new exhibits are fabulous and so life-like. The family setting near the Tomol is such a wonderful reproduction of the lifestyle of the Coastal Chumash. The events there are such a wonderful family venue and the kids just love it! The school tours are so popular they are consistently booked. Really a good place to hike also.
