Went there a few years ago with our ladies group from church. Eye opening experience. Eva was there that day so we were blessed to hear her speak about her time there & the experiment done.
The tour was very thorough. I learned a lot. The interactive survivors were great.
This was such an awesome place and the story was just so interesting. Spent 2.5 hours here and never boring.
Fantastic resource. Very educational.
So amazing to see what people went through and how God moved in their lives.
Fantastic little museum, so educational. The best part was meeting Walter, we were lucky enough to go on a Wednesday when Walter was giving a talk about growing up in Germany, he isnt a Holocaust survivor himself but it was so interesting to hear about his experience during that time. There is also a wonderful interactive exhibit in the back where theres a video projection of Eva and you can ask her questions about her experiences, it was really interesting & at the same time so heartbreaking to hear the things she survived. I highly recommend this museum. Also the two young men working there that day were so friendly & nice.
This is a great little museum to visit. It was very informative. The hologram portion was our favorite. You used a remote to ask questions and the wsy the hologram piked it up and looked like a real interview right before our eyes.
It keeps history up front ai we dont repeat it. Staff very helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant. Recommend all to see!!
This is a must see for all ages. I took my grandkids about a month before Eva passed away. They enjoyed speaking with her.
Small museum with significant personal view of Auschwitz. It is good to remember so we do not repeat the horror. The hologram of Eva was interesting and it felt as if she was with us. Rest in peace and may she be with all the loved ones she lost.
Great place to learn about the Holocaust. Best to go when they have a speaker set up to talk
Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend.
Very informative staff, amazing pictures and artifacts, interactive theater was amazing, you can interact with a Holocaust Survivor, sad time in our history but this place tells of how Ava Kor fought to survive and did
Basica small town museum with history u should have learned during school. When I visited I happened to come when a survivor was there for a speech. We came late ( not knowing there was a speaker) and had the opportunity to ask her a question. Unfortunately she was not super “nice” and upset that I asked a question she answered during the speech which I missed of course. Didn’t feel super welcomed. It’s a three star because I feel it is important for everyone to remember and learn from the past especially now but the museum needs to grow to one that focuses on more that just one set of sisters and maybe offers a way to prevent the repeat of this horrific event. Also maybe put up a sign that there is a speaker so we would have not visited since it made me feel like I was being disrespectful which would never be my intent.
Where to begin.... I was deeply moved and saddened at the same time. It is a small museum but very well put together. The museum is located right off the main road and was easy to find. Parking was sufficient. When I entered I was greeted by a lovely women who greeted me and made sure I knew where to start my tour. She made an extra trip in to let me know there would be a holocaust survivor speaking later that day. Its not filled with gruesome pictures but personal items that really make you feel the horror of the situation. I believe everyone should visit a holocaust museum at some time.
Its a very special place, small and personal. I heard Eva Kor speak back when I was in college, and she was powerful to hear. This summer I had purchased tickets in spring for my kids and I to hear her again, but due to her passing, we missed her by two weeks. We still made the trip from Indy, and it was worth it. Her video speech was stil powerful. There werent many kids there beside mine, but she actually acknowledged the next generation, and I felt that was powerful. My kids came away wanting to do their part to help make the world a better place. We wont forget.
Just learning about Eva’s experience just is so fascinating and I really recommended going to the candles holocaust museum
Love this place!iI cant wait to meet Eva! Shes my inspiration! Customer service is outstanding! Everyone seems to be very happy to work there!I bought Evas books, and I cant stop reading! So grateful to had the opportunity to visit!
Nice place to learn some history. Really neat that they have a video image that you can ask questiins of.
Ive never been here before but needed to say something. I am from OKC and was alive for the bombing of our federal building and can still very much remember the events of april 19th 1995. I just found out a few minutes ago that some bigot or some coward burned down the museum and spray painted remember Timmy McVeigh after the fire. I cannot believe that happened. Its sad and scary to think that people like that still exist and will always exist. The fact that one of historys darkest hours is connected to my hometown breaks my heart. I want to thank Eva Mozes Kor for her work in forgiving her enemies. Its the hardest thing to do in life to forgive those who mean us harm or hurt us. I know Eva Kor has passed on to join her sister but she is finally at peace. I can only hope that her messages continue on through her family and children. God bless you Eva!
Small but really nice people and great AI
Very special place in Terre Haute, IN that tells a story that continues to need to be told. Here they have a special interactive theater with Holocaust survivors that is only in 2 places in the world from my understanding. I had the honor of hearing Eva Kor tell her story at the museum. The museum does a fantastic job of relating the Holocaust to social justice issues today. Makes us question, what history is in the making right now that we are being silent on. Definitely worth a visit! So glad it is there!
I cant wait to visit here on a field trip! Ive heard it is very interesting place to come and visit and ask questions about the holocaust! I cant wait to visit! With my school!
It’s a nice place very clean
Small but interesting interactive part really cool go on day when speaker is available.
Would recommend everyone take the time to visit. Very informative of the Holocaust and what took place.
Inside is very nice but employees are rude so my experience was not so pleasant. Katie was nice, others were very rude.
Have been their when Mrs Eva Koher was living..it was very interesting..watch the documentary on PBS right after she passed I cried...Thank you for continuing on Eva will live in my heart FOREVER
So worth the drive if you are not local. It doesnt take a long time and the new virtual Eva is fun.
Loved listening to Walter sommers
I always enjoy visiting the museum. Friendly people, always eager to answer questions, and very knowledgeable. I always learn something new.
Wonderful place to learn some history, beutifull mission of peace and forgiveness. Thank you for making this world a better place.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Was very educational. I thought it was start with taste and compassion. I would recommend it to anybody. Especially those with children over the age of 10. I will be back.
So important to remember the horrors of the holocaust and learn essential lessons on strength and forgiveness from an amazing woman!
This is a great place to learn and get a feel for how the Jews were tortured. I cant wait to go back and learn more
Eva is incredible. She forgave all of the people who wronged her. Id like to think I would forgive someone after wronging me, but on a scale as large as hers, I dont think I could bring myself to it. I met Eva three years ago. It was incredible to see someone so abused standing strong and unwavering. I recommend going to the Candles Holocaust Museum ever day of the week (Sunday and Monday excluded). It is an absolutely unforgettable experience and I wouldnt trade it for just about anything. Eva, you are an inspiration!
This experience was extraordinary. Inspiring. She is a great narrator and her memories are so real. Truly inspiring and great lesson for kids. Deserves 10 stars.
Small museum, but very important to bring home the atrocities people are capable of committing against their fellow humans. The small museum is set up very well to ask meaningful questions that help the visitor, especially middle school age children, think about how the history is relevant today.I highly recommend that you make an effort to see one of the survivors speak here while it is still possible. Eva gives an excellent lecture. Check their web page for a calendar.
My family drove from Cincinnati. The drive was insignificant when compared to the experience we received. We were all moved by Evas story and lesson in forgiveness as a means of taking back the ability to make peace with atrocity. This is one of the most important messages I have ever received.Donations are accepted. They do have tours. There is ample parking.
The layouts are informative with real life sample items. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The interactive video with Eva Kor was very interesting, as well as being educational. It is definitely worth a trip to Terre Haute. Be sure to check their website for events and presenters.
I was doing some online research on forgiveness and came across Eva Mozes Kor. After watching some videos online, I wanted to see her in person and I finally did in November 2017. My only regret was not coming to this place sooner. I was able to learn more about forgiveness through the Question and Answer segment of her talk and asking her one-on-one after.Forgiving does not condone the past actions but instead frees you from the bitter response from it. Thats my takeaway. Visiting this place was well worth the 6 hour drive.
They had a fire, so the exhibits are scarce . The written explanations are brief and seem to slant towards forgiveness. It did bothered me because I know forgiveness and justice are linked. I have difficulty writing that because I am not a Holocaust survivor, but have only been through personal trauma, and do not wish to.diminish Evas perspective. So, if you have been through anything traumatic, just be careful if you go through that part of the museum. The second part of the museum is why this is worth the drive. There is a hologram of an older gentleman to whom you can ask questions. If I recall, he answers over 900 questions. Once I worked past the strangeness of talking to an image, I only wished I could have shaken the mans hand and told him how much I appreciated his words. It was an amazing and wonderful experience; one that should not be missed.I found the staff to be polite at first, but they became very political very quickly. They did not hide their disgust of Donald Trump nor were their comments discrete about how the Eva supported him. My husband and I found their comments rude and unprofessional. We wish we could have met the Eva, who is the survivor and for whom the museum is centered around, but she was touring.(I suggest the Grand Traverse Pie Company to complete your visit to Terre Haute.)
Just see it, it is something you will never forget
This museum provided a lot of insight as to what happened during the Holocaust and the living example of its survivor Eva Kor. Wonderful story to learn about. Very happy to see this place move into a larger space in downtown soon.
Walter is a national treasure. Loved our visit and will go back again.
Great graphic wall displays with Holocaust information. It also promotes forgiveness and peace. Call ahead and see if a Docent will be there to tell their story. Its the most well-balanced museum of that kind that I have ever seen. Small but worth it.
Really interesting. We were able to attend a presentation by Eva Kor who is an Auchwitz survivor
Ive been to both Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps and hearing Eva talk about about her actual experiences there just made it even more real. Amazing stories and great to see shes carried on the memories in the museum.
This was a remarkable and emotional museum. The interactive Q & A exhibit was extraordinary. For its size it was one of the most inspirational museums Ive seen.
I went on a fieldtrip with my school today here and I enjoyed it
An amazing woman and journey to forgive.
Easy-to-read-&-understand signage on displays. Interesting information. Engaging talk by Eva Kor.
Wow!!! What a great experience. I have been there several times and each time I walk away in ah
I would have loved to meet Mrs. Kohrs. She is an amazing woman.
We are so fortunate to have a first hand witness to this historic tragedy and one so able and willing to share her strength and testimony. I appreciate this experience so close to home.
Great information for such a sad time in history.
Visiting Candles Holocaust Museum was an unforgettable experience. We even had a one-on-one visit with Eva Kor. If you havent been there I urge you to go! It is a horror we never want to see repeated!!!
Its a small, but its a super powerful experience with a simple message about love and forgiveness in difficult times.
Great visit. Got to hear Mrs Kor tell her story in person. Cant believe the original was burned down.
Attended a wonderful program called Memorializing the Holocaust.
One of the foremost locations for Holocaust history in the United States. Brand new exhibits with tablet applications that further your learning experience. Candles also now has a jacket worn by an actual surviver which was donated from New York. Must see in the Wabash.
Thanks to Eva Kor, staff and volunteers for preserving this difficult and heartbreaking piece of history. Well organized and meaningful displays and use of up-to-date technology. Mrs. Kor delivers a powerful message of forgiveness.
Very good. Ever one should go!!!
Eva kor was there it was the best experience ive had so far recomend it
Every time I visit the Candles Holocaust Museum I love it even more. Its calm atmosphere gives an almost spiritual feeling to the stories and experiences told by the pictures and exhibits
Very important education abusive available here
This place is amazing. I am so glad a survivor is leaving this history behind because it shouldnt be forgotten. It might not be huge, but its memorable.
Though the seating is tight, we were blessed to be there and in the presence of such a wonderful woman.
Had the pleasure to listen to Eva speak which was unbelievable. The new Eva hologram is good.
What a great experience! We were fortunate enough to get to speak with Eva Cor, a holocaust survivor.
I love the authenticity, the courage, the amazing story of persistence and bravery. EVERYONE should visit here and learn about the living legend that is Eva Kor andall those who endured the Holocaust we must never forget!
It is a peace of living history. I was moved by what I saw. Id recommend that as a must see location even though it covers a difficult period of world history.
There was a room with 20 people, (white people) and no one was in there watching them. I go through the museum and I decide why not check out the last room in the back. I go and right behind I have the staff standing there watching me. (Im black) I felt extremely awkward trying to read this history and being watched like Im likely going to do something wrong. Even in a room full of persecution on the walls, Im being persecuted for being African American...
Eva Kors is fascinating and an excellent speaker!
Interesting but also felt sad for the victims.
Holyshit it really hit the fan only 50 years ago
Great!!! I I know on my field trip to candles I learned a lot
