Wonderful little hidden gem in Tarpon Springs. They have a marvellous permanent collection plus constantly updated special exhibits. Dont forget to visit the museum shop.
Nice assortment of works. Very accessible, well displayed. Not huge so doable in my cultural attention span of 1-2 hours.
Well organized museum, & the curator was wonderful! She REALLY knows her stuff! The exhibitions were delightful!
I have not visited this museum yet. I have read all the reviews and plan to travel though in the area in April with my granddaughter and husband. Of course we will be stopping at this wonderful sounding museum while we are there !!!!We live in a rural area of Kentucky while we do wear shoes and I don’t have pink curlers in my hair and I do have teeth and I can talk with proper English or Kentucky Slang, we still lack museums and other things in our local area. We do have beautiful green farm land, mountains, and gorgeous lakes, along with beautiful horses. This will be my granddaughters first museum of art. I am every excited to take her anywhere she hasn’t been before. That is why I research things of interest in areas we travel. I think this will be a perfect stop for my list. Thanks for all the reviews I could read. They were great!
Wonderful museum. Were lucky to have it locally.
This is a museum that is smaller than most but has a lot to offer. Many of the art remains the same but the museum does get new pieces they add to their collection. I was lucky to visit 2 years in a row on museum day. Each time there was a different rotating exhibit that is only available to view for a limited time. I thoroughly enjoy this museum and have considered joining as a member.
Entry fee of $10 for adults is a bit high for such a small museum. However, if you get a good docent tour it is WELL worth the money. Our guide was Larry and he was incredible! He told story after story that gave context to the images on the walls.
I had a pass from the Tarpon Springs Library to go today with my father and we had been waiting for months. The hours are listed as only being closed Monday and when we went today at 10:15 the entrance was blocked and no one answered the phone after two calls. The hours are not updated on their google page and although Hurricane Dorian is approaching there are businesses still opening and if not it’s posted and a message is left on their phones. We woke up intending to have a great experience as we were let down. So unsatisfying and frustrating. The pass is only good for one week and today was my only day off so I’ll have to wait again until the passes are available. Please be proactive and post if you’ll be closed in advance. I would also like someone to reach out to me and discuss what actions can be implemented to avoid this in the future. Thx.
They hosted our daughters cello quartet NPC.Very pleasant. Nice atmosphere. Great concert.
Cool spot!
Interesting exhibits.
Love the art. At campus so convenient
I give tours at this museum, which focuses on figurative expressionist art by Abraham Rattner; sculptures and prints by his second wife, Esther Gentle; and abstract art by Alan Leepa, Esthers son. Rattner studied and painted in Paris for some 20 years, where he had his first one-man show in 1935. Being Jewish, he fled Paris in 1939 with his first wife, Bettina Bedwell, an artist, dress designer, and fashion reporter. Because LRMA is set back from Belcher Road, the entrance is easy to miss. Closed Mondays, this very appealing museum charges adults a reasonable fee, but children and students are free. Shows in two temporary galleries are changed every 3 months and range from Marty Balin and his Jefferson Airplane band to the wildly popular Florida Miniature Art Show.
We really liked this museum and the variety of pieces they have. Very nice!
Great gallery and friendly staff. Looking forward to future exhibits.
Its pretty cool, and has a room where kids and adults can mske their own drawings, very cozy
Really well done, & the front greeting staff were very nice
This is a great little museum at the St Pete college campus. Always have cool exhibits showcased with local and worldwide artists. Also, kids & adult activities draw a good crowd. The museum store has some great stuff. You can get a postcard for a buck or the paper mache kitty for $100+. Something for everyones budget. If you are a Pinellas county library card holder, you can borrow from the school library. Awesomeness!
I cant believe this lovely art museum with local artists and works from Miro and Picasso has been around for 15 years. I cant wait to visit again. Wonderful place to spend an afternoon
One of the best museums in the area. They treat the college students with outstanding service. Plenty of community events and workshops to participate in. Lots of exhibitions through the year.
We went to see the Miniature Art Exhibition and One-Stroke Dragon art, and had the extra treat of taking the docent tour with Leepers grandson in the tour as well who gave us wonderful insights on his grandfathers style throughout his life. The miniatures were simply amazing and watching three amazing artists at work was fascinating. The one-stroke dragons were almost incomprehensible to understand how the bodies could be accomplished with one brushful of paint. Being introduced to Rattners art was also humbling. Excellent gallery and exhibits
My wife and I enjoy our visits to the Leepa-Rattner Museum for a very accessible showcase of art and information about the art. The museum is inexpensive and the staff is helpful.
This is a terrific college art museum with a unique collection of 20th century art. They also have interesting special exhibitions that change out frequently.Definitely worth a stop---go on Sundays when its by donation and there is a 2 pm docent-led tour to enjoy!
Excellent collection of the eponymous artists work plus a faithful replica of Picassos Guernica. Visiting the museum and having lunch in Tarpon Springs makes an enjoyable excursion.
