The South Tampa Y is an absolutely well run facility. It offers and exceptional variety of activities and classes, has a children’s program and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Compared to the costs of other gyms and programs, the South Tampa Y is a bargain.
It’s more than a gym to workout. It’s about relationships. Everyone is so friendly compared to other gyms I visit. Our instructor encourages us and brings in a wholistic view of health; mind, body & soul. I love it! Their aquatic center is beautiful and well maintained. It’s design allows me to feel more like I am at a relaxing park and not like stuck in my old crowded high school gym class.
Love love the YMCA at South Tampa. It feels soooooo good to get back into fitness. Its just not the same at home for me. I love the classes and the instructors are great, fun and make sure you get the best out of your time. The warm water Aqua fitness is a fun class and your body is working hard yet if feels so good. My Y is to go hiking and climb a mountain again ️ Whats your why?
Awesome pool staff! They are also helpful. I walked up to them to ask a question and Ambar walked me through swim lessons and and swim team as well as each level and how to sign them up. The front desk was also helpful but I wish there were more people up there. They were full.
We just moved to town and are SO excited there is such an awesome place as the Y to go work out! We joined initially because I LOVE the LesMills classes! (More bodystep please!!!) So far I have gone to Body Pump, Step and Flow and all the instructors have been very impressive and motivating - I go to the gym all the time now and love it! Also, the pool is amazing - an absolutely great space! Also, the childcare while we work out is an amazing perk that I appreciate so much and they girls who work it are fantastic!
The South Tampa Y is close to our home and is an excellent place to work out or take classes. We enjoy the bikes and it has given me and my husband a place we can go together to work out. The gym is clean and the front desk staff is so friendly and helpful. The cost is also very affordable for an individual or a family. I would highly recommend this Y.
Great knowledgeable personnel. Clean and sanitary location. Lots of new equipment. Personal trainers if needed. Every class imaginable offered. Summer camp for children.
Very nice place to go to! All the employees were helpful and very respectful!
The camp is creative. Activities are diverse. Plenty of social interaction. Overall, the day is a relaxing and meaningful time.
We have had a great experience at the ymca summer camp! The staff is wonderful and really knows our family and my daughter. The ymca has become a safe and secure place for our entire family during this unsettling time in our society.
Love the South Tampa YMCA! So many great people. We have been members for about 2 years and truly love it!
Doing a good job protecting against Covid. Everyone must wear masks except when exercising. Cardio exercise machines spaced 6 feet apart. Disinfectant wipes and sanitizer everywhere.
The friendliness, cleanliness, simplicity, the pool, but mosty Myrnas The Challenge class on TH and Sundays...Love this Y...
I like the homey atmosphere and the same crowd of people that I see when I lift my weight the trainers are very encouraging and very cooperative and they take the best sanitation measures possible.
The staff are always personable and happy. I can see and appreciate the efforts with sanitization and creating space for compliance with the COVID guidelines.
Clean facility with a good swimming area for lap swim and also a separate family swim area with an impressive water slide
Best step class! Stereo could be better.
Very disrespectful staff I will take my business elsewhere!
Great facility and friendly people. The pools are fantastic
Very good and staff are very nice and the gym and courts are well taken care of
This was my first time there, and the people there were very nice. I loved the gym itself. It is very nicely set up, and clean as can be. I asked Lori to help me with the elevator, and she was happy to do so. We also had a small chat about cancer. While I am very nervous talking about it, Lori made me feel very comfortable doing so. I also had Nancy and Terry help me out as well. It felt really nice being there. I will be going back and forth between two Ys now!
Based purely on the fitness area amenities, it was okay. Treadmills, ellipticals, and weights were all there but not in abundance. The entire bldg isnt really big at all. Seemed like a nice playground outside of you have kids.
A very nice lifeguard by the name of Amber made taking the swim test very fun and safe. My kids were scared to get in the lap pool and she offered to get in with them and guide them every step of the way. She cheered them on through the whole test. Great lifeguard. We love her.
My son loves the water activities
Every single staff member that I have come into contact with really cares about my child. There is nothing more important to me.
Love our Y.
Friendly people and stuff. Comfortable environment. Access hours are great. Camps are fun and well supported with knowledgeable stuff.
We love the Y! Our whole family is able to take advantage of the classes, amenities and equipment. The child care is great! Love the classes and many options. Excellent child care. Also very happy with the kids classes and excellent prices. I have gone to many private expensive gyms and have stopped them all as I can get everything I need and more at the Y. I do not see any reason to go anywhere else.
The staff is super friendly, compassionate and fair. The facility is always clean. I had an issue with one of the life guards as I felt I was being discriminated against but it was handled swiftly, with respect compassion
Well organised and run camps.
We are so pleased with this facility. The environment is encouraging and relaxed.
Great place to workout, hangout and socialize. Staff and patrons are friendly and helpful. It is nice to have support for your health goals and encouragement to keep going.
Marci is a most inspiring Golden Spin coach. Her confidence and encouragement make it easy for me to up my game! Thank you.
We love this place!!!
Camp counselors are trusted with young children and develop personal relationships at every age group. It doesn’t ever feel like paid supervision. Activities are diverse and keep children engaged with one another in a healthier environment.
Lots of variety in ways to exercise. Very good instructors and classes.
The 7South Tampa Y has provided a place to exercise for my health and well being in the best possible. atmosphere. The people are friendly, both staff and members, and I have made many friends since joining. And I especially want to commend Lori Osborne, who is a trainer par excellence and knows how to create a program for senior better than anyone.
We loved the staff, they were nice and caring but the program was not satisfactory. Maybe my expectations were too high bit for a wonderful location and the fact that they were packed all summer, they would have had more activities for the price.
This Y is better than the other one’s in the area. The accommodations are better as well. The staff is great st what they do and above all else, super friendly!
Love the Y! I am training for a triathlon and the pool is a huge plus for me. Thank you to everyone for being so supportive and encouraging!
The staff members are courteous and helpful. Our family enjoy the friendly atmosphere and cleanliness of the place.
Really enjoy our Y membership. The pool and slide are great! There’s so many options for class workouts and the gym is clean and well organized. The staff is friendly and helpful
Not happy with the kids zone manager at this Y. I probably called and asked to be transferred to speak with her at least 10 times and 1) never spoke to her because she never answered when I was transferred, 2) never got a call back after leaving several voicemail messages, 3) never got a reply from any of the emails I sent, and 4) she was never there during any of the three trips I made out to this Y to once again try to speak with her. Great YMCA location and the few other employees I spoke with who tried to help were super nice, but unfortunately the complete lack of communication with the kids zone manager spoiled my experience.
Great place. Great friends. Great member experience. A few things of course can be updated/addressed yet I recommend to others. Have fun and join!!!
The staff always makes me feel like Im internationally famous even though Im barely locally famous.
I love the South Tampa Y! Great programs and instructors, friendly staff and fantastic water park! As a lap swimmer, I really appreciate the lap pool. Plus, I love using my Y membership at other Ys around the country when I travel. Highly recommend this facility!
We loved the facilities, the class offerings, the hours, the pool and the friendliness of the staff. Our only issue was the childcare area. Every time we brought our child there they would get the stomach flu for a few days. Im not sure what is being used to clean the room but everything should be sanitized throughout the day and regularly (i.e. all toys, door knobs, the carpet, mats, and buttons or books, etc.).
Great facility, especially the lap pool; great staff; great activities for all ages and interests. There is something here for everyone.
Instructor is clear, demonstrates the moves, patient and fun. It’s my second time taking swimming lessons and I love it.
Friendly staff, well maintained, clean, flexible hours. Overall excellent experience!
MY DAUGHTER IS ABLE TO GO SWIMMING EVERY DAY AND IS ALWAYS LEARNING SOMETHING NEW. I LOVE THAT SHE IS SO WIPED OUT BY THE END OF THE DAY SHE LITERALLY PASSES OUT RIGHT AFTER BATH TIME
A great place for the whole family! I love the variety of classes and times...no matter what my schedule is, there is a great class that fits in.
It’s a clean, well supplied, well run facility.
We love the pools and the friendly staff. A great family value!
This facility was just renovated completely and its beautiful! They had to grind floors in public areas before applying all new surfaces so it was a little dusty for about a week there. There has been lots of new equipment installed. The children, for whom the facility was built, are wonderful, the kind of kids you would be proud to have in your family. One feels safe at the South Tampa YMCA, perhaps because new patrons are all vetted?
I love the pool, but the pool locker room definitely needs better ventilation, fans, or even an air conditioner. It was so unbearably hot and humid the last time I swam and then showered off in there, I could not even get my body dried off completely with a towel.
Very nice. Easy in and out
I love this Y! Everyone is friendly and there are a ton of class offerings. The pools are awesome and the workout machines are rarely busy.
Friendly reception, good fitness classes/instructors. First time visit today. Busy YMCA with lots of people in the classes, using equipment. Nice facility.
If you have kids, you should consider joining this YMCA. Great kids sports and programs. The weights and exercise equipment is good and the wait for treadmills is never too bad. Adult sports leagues are competitive and fun.The guy that complained about too many kids is probably right. If you are into a scene and/or looking for a hardcore workout experience, then maybe LA Fitness or Harbor Island is a better fit for you.But if you value friendly staff and a welcoming environment, then the Himes YMCA is the place to be.Update - the pool that opened in Sept. 2015 is great. Plenty of swim lanes, a waterslide and a splash area for little kids.
Heartbreaking truth is below. It may be a bit long but that is what truth takes at times. Please read and help my girls. This rating is soley for the administrators at this location. Tiffany, Ann, and Rich only. Rich claimed to be Scott BTW (this is the edit). However Scott is a wonderful, kind person and Rich is complete opposite (different voice gave it away Rich!) Not cool to lie and throw the good ones under the bus to protect yourself of being known as the guy that does not have a HEART) I will provide an honorable rating from my husbands account for Scott. He is a compassionate kind person and gave both my girls their full class back. When I signed up my daughters for their 1st gymnastic classes ever I informed the staff and Tiffany that their Grandmother was very ill and her time was limited. I was concerned that they may miss a class if we need to go see her or if she passed away during the 4 weeks of classes and asked if we should wait. I was assured that if they did miss any Tiffany would provide make up passes for them as a courtesy. She confirmed as well. Unfortunately my worry became reality and they missed 2 classes each. These last 3 months we saw the worst of her suffering and she needed her family by her side. A month after my girls missed 2 weeks for her illness she passed away. She was suffering so bad with no complaints and one last request... To see all of us. When we got there she remembered all of us and has not since her Irma Evacuation. She held our hand crying because she could not get her words out except for I love yall so much! Please let me go home to my Daddy and Mama. We told her it was ok. The staff told us she had a few months max and she passed away within hours. My family lost EVERYTHING from Irma destroying the Keys. We are still trying to rebuild and raise wonderful children that need the activities at the YMCA so stay true as Christians and off the streets while my family rebuilds their life as we greive the loss of a Christian Legacy (Granny)!!! I have begged the 3 people above Tiffany (denied), Ann(passes all calls to Tiffany), and RICH(there are no words) for the make up passes. No condolences were offered after 2 months of waiting for a call back to be told No to a previous promise made. RICH NOT Scott was the worst. This is the first I have talked to him and as I was trying to provide him with the reason for the requests and update him he continuously cut me off while I was speaking of her passing away and told me to get to the point. I was crying and begged him to please let me finish my request and get through this. He continued to interupt and became extremely argumentative. As the tears pour my emotions became angry so I spoke louder to finish while he continued his non christian ways so I hung up and just cried. These girls are honor roll, humble, compassionately caring and giving. They need a distraction so they do not have to be watching me plan her funeral. They are too young to plan but not to attend her service. Not sure how we can change the new ways this YMCA back the the good old days when they all worked for christ to be a positive influence and help others reach goals. If an employee cannot honor the Christian foundation of the YMCA I believe they are in the wrong career path. Our children would be a better fit and do it for the Love of helping not the Evil $$$THIS IS FOR RICH ONLY!!! You owe Scott a humble kind and repectful apology. If you have any guilt or remorce for the way you have treated him it is probably best for you to relocate or move on for a second chance to humblize yourself and become the righteous man that the Lord intended for you to be. We will pray for you and I forgive you. Please just keep your distance from my family, lies swallowed and be a good person. Hopefully you will stop treating good people horrible and show that change is possible. Be the solution not the problem-Granny God Bless
Great place and great staff. Very family friendly and great community!
Mr. John is a great swim teacher, patient and effective.
Love this facility. Good coffee too. “Bennet blend”. I’m always traveling and checking out all the ymcas. This ones a gem.
Great place for the family. Everyone always has a great time.
My daughter loves to go. Great people, fun and convenient.
I take Pedaling for Parkinson’s. I am so grateful!
OK, I cant believe there arent more reviews stating how good the fitness instructors are at the South Tampa Y. I like so many of the classes and the instructors not only make it fun and interesting, but they have innovative ways of working out the body and paying attention to newcomers and regulars alike. All the staff is so friendly, too! I use the Y mostly for fitness classes and gave up on spinning when we had to reserve bikes in advance. So I give it a hearty 4 stars!
Great Y with something for every member of the family
The classes are amazing, wonderful caring instructors and staff. Best decison Ive made!
Great place for kids and adults
It’s a family friendly atmosphere and has great group fitness classes. I’m a big fan of Les Mills group fitness classes like BodyPump, BodyCombat, CXWorks, etc.
I come here often and theyve recently started renovations. It was very disappointing to see that their racquetball rooms turned into a gymnastics room (????). The new swimming pools are a lot of fun and I visit the weight room often. Just wish the weekend hours were more flexible. Mary and Jeff are the best trainers! Helped me learn a lot about fitness and set a reachable goal for myself. Overall its the people and families that bring me here rather than fancy places like LA Fitness
My kid when its time to go to the y
I love this place. Everyone is so friendly. The staff calls me by name and they care. I joined a few weeks ago and take as many fitness classes as I can. Each instructor is amazing is their own way. They motivate me to push myself harder, but at my own pace. They explain well the proper form so I get the most from workouts and dont injure myself. I love bodypump, water aerobics, aqua jog, and my private swim lesson blew away my expectations. There are a lot of kids during summer camp but they do a great job keeping them in line and out of workout areas. The treadmills are new and high quality. They keep it clean too!
Love the South Tampa YMCA. It has friendly employees and a great facility.
The staff are encouraging and friendly. It offers a safe environment where you are assured that you are actually performing your routines correctly. I would recommend this facility. Great fun!
Nice facilities, well maintained, friendly staff
I would like to give zero star but is impossible today my daughter got punch in the stomach by someone my daughter told on her to the counseler, the counseler they dont teach the education at the girl who punched my daughter stomach Im very disappointed, where is the control?Where is the education? they are not words for my disappointedvery bad
Great waterpark for the kids. Also enjoy that you can log into your Netflix account from the elliptical machines!
Great facility and even better now with the renovation being complete. Pools are great for family or lap swim and weight area is spacious so never feels packed, even at peak times.
Excellent, friendly customer service. Clean facility with lots of space and equipment.
If I could give this place and its staff a minus 5 stars, I would. The staff are appalling, the teens they hire make fun of the kids that go there, the adult staff are unresponsive to the point that they want to roll their eyes at you. There is a racist vibe to the staff also that is unmistakable. The insane parents particularly the dads who volunteer coach on their kids teams just so they and their children can abuse the other kids is unreal, and the staff bully you if you complain. Members and camp counselors proselytizing on the YMCA property un-checked by staff.Everything this person wrote and more: Irving 852 reviewsa year ago-* Decent facility, not super clean.* Pretty overcrowded and disorganized.* Nice new pool.* Gym floors are always slippery because they need to be cleaned more frequently.* Worst case of Dadball Ive come across in S. Tampa.Dont know what Dadball is? Its when the dads who coach sports teams clearly favor their own kids over all the other players. Every kid pays the same amount of money to be on that team but thats where any fairness ends.Dadball coaches never rotate their kids out of the game. They play them nonstop, even when they suck, while players who arent coaches kids ride the bench.People warned us about this kind of stuff at this branch and after two seasons of my kid playing there, I cant deny that they were right.Do your kids a solid and send them somewhere else... unless youre coaching, of course.
Completely renovated! Brand new strength and equip. Tons of classes. Cardio machines are never too packed so no waiting.
Love the facility and the water park for the kids. Basketball gym is big too.
I came here regularly as a child. I loved it! From soccer or baseball to racketball and basketball...their facility was top notch.
Great activities for the kids and families to enjoy.
My son attended for spring break . While my son said he enjoyed it, they had far too relaxed of a pickup process. First day, no ID check, I scribbled an illegible signature and walked out with a kid. I raised the issue and they insisted it was an oversight, cool. Second, day, no ID check, not even someone at the table, I caught them as someone stepped away... I bring it up again and they insisted it was wrong and theyll fix it....cool... day three and after I sign and step away Im approached and asked for ID... Which was barely looked at. They clearly only checked me to stay out of trouble. I asked around and this seems to be a South Tampa specific problem with YMCAs.

The whole family spends a lot of time here. Great place.
I like that it has a lot of fitness classes n judo the pool is always warm even when its cold outside n they just did some upgrades..and great price 40.00 a month
An outside pool in Tampa Bay was the dumbest idea. A waste of money if you dont participate in the exercise classes. Old out-dated building. Staff is friendly. $55.00 per month for a three person family. Far from the best Y I have visited.
Despite kids running a muck in locker rooms, too, its pretty nice.
Clean and Professional.. Love it.
Love this place.
Super fun, and great staff!
Awesome staff, aura, energy, and all around quality
You need to post closed when closed. Like on Easter sunday I see a person a minute is driving here for nothing as I sit in your parking lot.
I love the outdoor pool/slide.
