Great little get away from the big city. Out in the trees we saw a great horned owl. Good place to get out and let the kids stretch their legs and see a simpler time. Saw a big herd of bison on the way out too. Been here twice and I always like coming here when we are driving through.
I love to stop by Antelope Island State Park and this is a must visit inside the park if you want to learn the history behind the people who arrived here and colonized this area. It’s like going back 100 years back on time and see how the loving conditions were back on the late 1800s and early 1900s hundreds.Very easy to find inside of Antelope Island and the visit shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to see this ranch.
When on Antelope Island make sure to drive over to the farm. Make sure you have walking shoes on. No open toe shoes or sandals. You learn so much about the history of the settlers and their contributions here in Utah.Interactive roping activity is a lot of fun, but I didnt do very well. LolOld Case tractors on the property that were built in Racine, Wisconsin.Just walking around was so educational and walking to the fence line to see the buffalos grazing was awesome.
I enjoyed the outing and I am a history nut. Detailed history available all over the island. Original buildings from the original setllement with objects and history museum. Very comfortable to wander around, no set tour that I could see. Horse back riding avaiable when scheduled and I am sure you would get more history that way. Buffalo are in close proximity to the roads for photo ops in the morning hours and just before dusk. Large variety of birds, didnt see much other wildlife, but I am sure its there. Camping available. I would go back just to wander around. Once youve seen it - youve probably seen it all.
Cool old historic ranch. Lots of neat things to see. Barn, home, buildings, farm equipment all historic and fun to check out.
Pretty neat place. A fun historical place to check out but I wouldn’t say I was wowed. We went in mid August and enjoyed it bug free which was amazing for Antelope Island. My kids were interested as they explored the old barn and workshops. They were told they could pretty much touch anything which was fun. It didn’t take very long to check out. We didn’t love the volunteer guide gathering us before we entered to explore. I thought he was going to just tell us a little bit about the ranch and we’d be on our merry way, which would have been just fine. Instead he gave my teen girls a speech and made them promise to not kiss boys and told their siblings to hold them to it. Totally inappropriate. I would say if you go and are stopped by an old man sitting there with his camera and photo album of beautiful photos then be warned. His photos are beautiful, speech to teenagers and kids not so much.
Very interesting place to visit, there was an old tractor that was like the first tractor my Dad had. Brought back memories of riding with my Dad as a child.......
What a fun place to spend the afternoon. I will definitely come back the next time I visit Salt Lake City
Had a great time here following the (sort of) self-directed tour by way of placards and flip-books. Try your hand at the lasso (you only fail if you give up!) and take a walk through the tranquil bird protection area.
It was so quaint. And all the items like tools and furniture are laid out like somebody from back in the day (1848-1920s) had just walked away for a sec. Saw that a typical home would have looked like to those pioneers. Really cool.
Great place to visit I cant believe people lived out there before the causeway was put in.
This was a very interesting place with beautiful views all around. Loved all the displays here. Even my 3 year old granddaughter had a fun time on the ranch.
Antelope island far south. We stopped there to use wash room. Entire antelope island is nice. There are tiny flying bugs. The net is available at the ticket counter. Bug is a trouble only if you are walking in a trail. But doesnt matyee if you are just driving around.
Interesting place with a lot of history.
Very interesting to see how they lived without modern amenities well into the 20th century.
I took my four young boys and we all had a great time. There is old equipment, buildings and tools that you can touch, explore and climb on. There was a lot of historical information that added to our experience.
Fun to look around. The staff was helpful telling us where we could see the buffalo.
Just Ok. The Visitors Center and film is much better and not such a long 20 minute drive for what you see.
A home where the buffalo roam. Just a fantastic day on Antelope Island. The ranch is like an oasis. I wish I could live there. So close to millions of people yet so peaceful.
Gorgeous ranch and little museum about the history of the island.
Very nice! So glad that the state is taking such great care to preserve our history! We can learn so much from visiting parks like this! Enjoyed it immensely!!
Nice place to hike, bike and explore. See bison up close. Horseback riding is available. Learn about Fielding Garr ranch, over 135 years old. Camping and beach access are also on the island.
About a mile walk around. So.e really old stuff and sights to explain some of it.
Self guided tour of a step back in history. Lots to see and learn.
Great place for a family outing. Saw allot of bison.
Beautiful slice in time! We took our older teens out in a cold, January afternoon and we enjoyed walking around, learning and exploring the old buildings and implements. The bison are really cool, and we could see deer in the distance while listening to the coyotes chatting!
I spend 3.5 hours moseying around this wonderful historical site. Highly recommend a stop!
This place is well taken care of and just a fun place to visit. My son is 6 and loved the experience.
We went for a ghost tour with WASP. Was very interesting.
This was such a fun place to spend a Sunday morning. It is a great drive to get to it. So many cool buildings to explore and we loved to see the beautiful owl in the sheep shearing barn! The worker there was so friendly and told us some cool things we could see, including the owl.So much history, great place for photography, and learn about the ranch, people, animals, etc.
Great place to walk around and enjoy the views
Fascinating history and remarkable beauty of this 133 year ranch.
They do cowboy festivals here from time to time and they are a lot of fun. We came and saw cowboy poetry and music festival. There is a lot of historic ranching stuff to see and free activities. They had roping, stilts, and a fake jail for kids as well as food trucks and other vendors. On the way down we spotted some wild buffalo roaming around the island. This is worth it even with the $10 fee to enter the park.
This was a really interesting site with a lot of history. It was especially interesting to see the range of equipment used in the time that it was an operating ranch.
Fun historical place to walk around. Can go through old house, cellar, barn and more. Love seeing the wildlife around. Like owls, antelope, bison and different birds.
Fun place to visit and learn about history!
Learned a lot about a working ranch. Sheep and cattle and growing wheat. Now theres a bison roundup to keep the herd healthy every year. In late October the 750 to 800 bison on Antelope Island are rounded up, their health checked, and some are put up for auction to maintain a healthy free range herd. All of the work being done by volunteers in one day.
Very interesting piece of history. The older gentleman volunteer at the visitor center told us to be sure to stop in at the Ranch House. We are glad we did! The gentleman that greeted us at the ranch house was super nice, very knowledgeable about the ranch history and very happy to share with us. We did not go on a horseback ride but the horses looked to be taken care of well. Great family place or enjoy as a relaxing couples trip.
Fielding Garr Ranch is awesome! Lots of history in this place! There are a few different buildings, from bunkhouses to sheep sheering sheds, that have plaques and displays throughout! There happened to be an Owl in the rafters of the main barn/shed! A very cool place to explore and envelope yourself in the history and surroundings.
If you are looking for a reason to be grateful for AC, power, and other modern conveniences, this place will make that possible. Especially if you visit mid-summer or mid-winter.#islandlife
Nice place excelente history and place to go around to teach my children about the past.
A trully fun place to at the end of the Antelope shorline drive. The little forest is cooler during the hot days, and buffalo and horses are fun to see. Even a gopher snake was laying in the sun.
This was great! Loved the setting and reading all the neat history.
Located on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake, it was first settled in 1848 by Mormon Pioneer, Fielding Garr. The ranch was continually inhabited until 1981. They herded cattle, raised sheep, they built corrals, built grain silos and had a blacksmith shop for their horseshoes and other needs. They built the farm near a natural spring. A hard life but they made time to raise children and have fun sailing on the lake.
Takes you back in time. We drove the Antelope Island. We saw coyotes, Antelope and buffalo. If you are going to visit Salt lake city, Utah I think its a must see.
This was a pretty cool find on the island. My family loves historical things and this farm is old. So neat learning how people lived and worked on the farm in the past. The kids enjoyed some interactive things they had set up there as well.
I came out here for a ghost hunt and there was a bunch of activity and the barn caught fire. Everyone is OK just a bit shaken up. I will be returning for the next WASP ghost hunt.
This place is a wonderful piece of local history. The living quarters have been maintained with a wonderful attention to detail. The grounds are beautiful and its a lovely place to walk around.
Really fun! Cool tools museum, well kept and interesting. Really fun for my kids.
A lot of history and old farm equipment. Great place to visit.PS. During the beginning of summer there are tons of annoying bugs all over.
Its always a fun time taking the family out!
Enjoyed seeing the way the used to sheer sheep
Great history of the pioneering spirit. Great views of most the island critters. One has to look closely to see the resident barn owl.
Nice history, good birding area as well
Beautiful place to take your kids to have fun
Really neat drive out to ranch. ranch had lots of informative information. disappointed in the fact that other visitors destroyed several things on the property.
Amazing old case tractors. Old international light line pick ups still sitting in the barns alot of history here never mention how beautiful this island is already
What a remote, harsh way to live. Buildings and grounds were very interesting. The sheep shearing barn, blacksmith building and the spring house highlights of the visit.
Beautiful location. Very clean and well kept.
This is such a beautiful place to take photos. However, Im positive that the property is haunted.
Always great visiting the other worldly Antelope Island. I rarely make it all the way down the road to the ranch, but was reminded recently that its a great trip. Very hard to imagine living out there 150 years ago.
Nice place to visit, short ride to visit.
Interesting place,Bison everywhere.
I love coming here before sunset and watching the owls.
Awesome lots to see
Really cool to walk around and explore the history of the people and revolutionary advancements of there time.
You have to enjoy the views from this place! And admire the people who were strong enough to settle it!
Great place to stretch your legs and learn about the history of ranching.
Interesting place. You can imagine that the ranchers of the past had a difficult life.
Birders Paradise! Such a beautiful and historic place to go! If you go to Antelope Island you must visit! Saw lots of Bison on our way there! One of favorite places to visit!
Its a nice place to learn and see what people used they have picnic tables and lots of things kids can touch
Wonderful visit
Really cool place full of interesting history and beautiful views. A must stop for people going to Antelope Island who love learning about history. Very friendly staff answered all our questions!
This was definitely a cool drive.
Amazing place full of history and plenty to learn! Love this place! Has a great shaded picnic area with tables that is quite beautiful and peaceful.
Very interesting part of Utah and LDS history
Very cool and interesting!
Nice little gem of a place we have to learn about history.
Wild bison evwrywhere
We had a wonderful time at the ranch and antelope island. But it was a very terrible time with the bugs. The nats were all over the place and they were biting nats and they would get in your hair and start biting your head.Other than the bugs it is a good place to go!it was fun to see all of the old tools that they would use on the farm as well.
This was a great stop full of history. It was fun to explore the different buildings and imagine how they were used in the past. Worth the drive around the island to get to!! Plus bison, antelope, and mule deer were spotted along the way!
Plenty of parking and lots to see! If you are on Antelope Island, it is worth making the trip all the way to the southern side just to see it.
Beautiful nature walk
Fun place to visit and see how they loved over 100 years ago
Really beautiful area of Antelope island. It has a rally nice wooded area with a little pond where you can sit and relax and enjoy the outdoors. It was also fun seeing all the different rooms and sheds they used to run the farm. Definitely worth a visit.
ITS REALLY NICE BUT TOO FAR AWAY THO
Really interesting and informative historical site. You can walk through the entire ranch and read about the history of Antelope island. Ive been here a few times and always have a good time exploring. Would be a great spot to bring children from about probably eight years old and older. I think too much younger and they night not appreciate it.
It was nice to get outside. We saw deer and Bison.
Loved seeing the bison and beautiful scenery.
Its and old farm, not too much to it in the covid era
Historical place detailing the goings on of an early Utah pioneer family ranch. Including sheep shearing barn and blacksmith shop.
Nice museum! You can actually pick up the tools. Nice collection of ranch equipment.
Am amazing peice of history, very educational, also a pleasant environment. Plenty of picnic area, a really cool place to explore.
Come and see bison in the wild
