Barkers Island is probably one of the best places I have ever visited in my life. The hotel is absolutely remarkable and stunning and super clean. The workers are great. Everyone on the island seems to be very kind. Walking on the sidewalk people in their cars will wave at you they’ll even rolled down their window just to wave at you absolutely amazing people living on barkers Island. So now about barkers Island Hotel. I live there for about a month it is very pricey indeed but worth every penny. It was so calm I was relaxed. Just a stress free place to stay or live tbt. I was so happy there that I stayed longer. I didn’t want to leave. But like I said the price is very pricey. If your ever looking for a place to stay in superior WI I definitely recommend barkers Island Hotel. Not only is the hotel spectacular but so is the view from your hotel window. I can just sit there for hours watching the boats. I give 4 stars only because there food isn’t the best. It’s good but not the best. The only issue is there food has no flavor I don’t think they season their food much. It’s very natural. It’s not gross just no flavor. Maybe ask for salt when you order from there. That would even make it better. When it comes to staying at a hotel I only recommend barkers island for sure!
This place is a hidden gem. The view from the room was nice. The price is reasonable. The rooms are clean and smell nice. The beds are comfortable with an adequate number of pillows. During covid there was a sack breakfast which was a nice touch. The pool area was clean and well kept. It was not overly noisy during the week. The staff were helpful and friendly. The bar was reasonably priced and well stocked. Would stay here again!!!
Friendly staff, clean hotel. The room was nice the bed was big and very comfortable. The pillows were soft, too soft i head just sink to the bottom. But it was a great stay.
Check in & out was easy they have a nice pool area.. The rooms are decent with plenty of space, they need to do better on house keeping though. Between the tags found on the floor sticky plug in ports on the bed side table & dead flys on the window sills when we opened the window. Glad brought wipes with to wipe down ourselves. The grab & go breakfast includes a small bottle of water, granola bar, banana & muffin.
I did enjoy myself and slept really well with the window open feeling the breeze. The pool area was nice and big with 1 pool table, hot tub did not have working jets. I give it 4 stars because the game room was closed and I didn’t get a chance to go into the bar or eat at the restaurant due to my lack of time AND the mini fridge was super noisy in the room. The view was awesome. It looked like our room was slightly remodeled.
Facilities are good. Place is old and dated. But clean and neat. Setting is excellent. Bar restaurant were fine. Outside are with tables and chairs is a big plus.
Nice view by the water, comfortable rooms. There is a pool and hot tub - but the hot tub wasnt hot and the sauna isnt currently open.We would definitely stay again!
We have stayed here multiple times. Its an older bulding so if your looking for more than a clean place to sleep this may not be the place for you. Great restaurant, clean pool, close to Duluth, friendly staff.
Took 20 minutes to get change. No silverware in bag like they said and no ketchup like we asked. Took 10 minutes to find a server to get ketchup.
Hotel room was mediocre, good for its price compared to other places in the area. Room itself did not seem super clean, smells like 1970s. The bed was comfy and shower had good pressure.
Upon arrival, I was greeted in an utmost friendly manner. I regret I forgot this customer service super stars name after my 2wk stay. She is a pretty lady, inside and out!!! The location and cleanliness of my accomodations the overall property maintenance and cleaniness, the entire staff, the complimentary coffee/grab bag and even the showers water pressure are some of the things that scored high for me.Thank you Barkers Island for a great experience.

Positive: Good price for the location and availability. Negative: Masks were not enforced. One of the women at the front desk was coughing constantly, and the other wore a mask that did not cover her nose. The outlet box on the nightstand was filthy and looked like it had never been dusted.
Positive: Nice location. Access to food was good. They tried to provide a breakfast. Pool is big and we could spread out. Staff was nice. Price is way better than in Duluth. Internet was good. Negative: The first time I stayed, we got a large room. When I booked the 2nd time, I got a small room, and was surprised when I got there. I know its Wisconsin, but it seemed unsafe in the bar - few masks. It made us really nervous.
Location is nice. Its like on an island but not. Next Marina. A little walk away from a swimming area. We were able to watch planes land and take off in the Bay. Nice.

Rooms were ok the staff on the other hand is less then desirable. I am a mobile entertainer and came here for a wedding. The baquet manager was very polite. But severs and the late night manager need a course in common mannager and how to treat vendors. I dont recommend hold your event there. Very small and not very nice staff
Enjoyed my stay and felt the rates were fair considering the location of the hotel. The rooms and the overall appearance of the hotel were a bit outdated. The room I stayed in was quite dark and could have used better lighting.
The staff was very pleasant. Location is convenient and easy to get in and out of. In the morning it was fun to open the drapes and look out at the frozen lake. We ate some appetizers at the bar and they were delicious. Would recommend! The hallways and rooms are very dated, but are comfortable and quiet. There were a lot of hockey players around the night we stayed, but we never heard them once we were in the room.
Employees watching your every move. Outdated rooms. Non working amenities. One of the worst stays ever.
Main entrees are okay but their fries are often soggy and stale. Good venue with good staff.

Cool place. Restaurant right in hotel, was great. The service wasnt that good... They had a nice bar in hotel also. Kids liked the pool... The scenery was beautiful. It was like being on your own Island.

The room was very old, like 1980s style. The bedspreads were visually dirty. The air conditioning was loud it sounded like a motorcycle starting up.
Ordered food at the restaurant. Just a patty melt and cheese curds waited 50 mins for the food to arrive mind u it was not busy at all. Food was so cold we could not eat it. They just took the food and said sorry. Wow thanks for the huge waste of time. We drove 3 hrs to get here and were starving. Unfortunately were still starving.
The pool chlorine was so overwhelming. We ended up breaking out itching for 5 days. And our hair was ruined, dried and rough. Do not recommend. Our bathroom door also didnt shut or lock. Was so disappointed. Never had a problem before. Barkers hotel has gone down hill big time.
Ok place to stay as you travel. Dated rooms and poor room lighting. Beds were ok. Smelled musty and damp in the room. We stayed on the first floor by the pool. Not much was done to ensure sanitation during covid. Only staff wore masks. Nothing was offered for guests and no requests to wear masks. Rooms were clean but no extra effort was shown to sanitize like the other places we’ve stayed in. Luckily we brought our own products to sanitize the room with. Pre bagged grab and go breakfasts were provided, which was nice. Probably would not stay here again but there’s not many choices in the area.
Rooms were discussing everything you could sleep on was stained. Bathroom was dirty as well. Beds were uncomfortable pillows are made of hay i think... Everything in the resort was old, dated, and overall just in a disheveled state. The food at the restaurant was ok at best. We did enjoy the people that worked at the restaurant and the bar as they were very nice and pleasant to talk to. Unfortunately we will not stay at the resort again sadly we had higher hopes.
My mom works there at the front desk manager and also its super fun going there to swim and the hotel rooms are super fun and the hotel rooms have little microwaves wish is so fun and I like the bathrooms in the hotel rooms cause They are fun to play with. the bath in there is fun also. even thought only I never usually use it. only if were staying at the hotel for a long time then me and my brother have to take showers or baths.
Our room was dated but very clean! The pool was wonderful! And the view from our room would have been spectacular it had been summer.The rating is low because the water in the shower was cold in the morning and both mornings they had run out of coffee before 9:00 a.m. Our in room coffee maker did not work and our in room fridge froze everything.Places in Superior/Duluth are expensive so not sure if this is a deal or not but I always want a warm shower and coffee in the morning.

The first night was good. On the second night of my stay they closed the pool and didn’t notify any of the guest. House keeping was very rude. An all the management had to say when I said that you should have notified their guest that they were closing the pool was that we could check out. They also made it my problem that they didn’t have very many house keepers. I’m sorry but that isn’t my problem. I didn’t even ask for any house keeping services.
I had the fish fry and it was great! The coating on the delicious fish was light and a little crunchy. Next time I will get the baked potato because I like my fries a little brown which is why I gave 4 out of five stars.

For the quality of the room, I think it was expensive. The pool was nice, except the heater whats broken. I loved Barkers island Beach.
Bed sheets were dirty when we arrived, bathroom door lock did not work and dirty towels. The location is nice but not worth staying there.
The location is cute and quaint. The place needs an upgrade. Plugged bathtub, lights not working, vent falling out of the ceiling. Called to the office twice and never picked up. Some rooms have a full box for a/c and heat but was facing directly to the bed so every time it turned on, it was a blast of air in your face and loud. Our friends room was so hot and had no control. The beds are hard as a rock, Stayed two nights and I had a stuffy nose from the air blasting and lumpy bed. The lounge door needs to be posted on the door from the pool. There were a few of us trying to figure out which door and walked around the pool twice. The posting signs for direction to rooms need to be more pronounced. Restaurant was great, waitress staff was friendly, good food. I may not go again due to the non comfort of the rooms. Very rundown.
Tired accommodations. Needs a refresh. Room should be taken out of the inventory. Tried to switch rooms and front desk would not accommodate. Room was right next to a outside exit door where staff went to smoke. They talked loud and let the door slam throughout the night. Restaurant and bar was exceptional. Great food and staff.
The pool & hot tub had a scum ring yuck the room wasnt very clean dust on the head boards tables were dirty as well as the chairs the shower had soap scum and the shower head was broken not impress at all this was my first time Ive been there will not be going back

Whats great about Barkers is the location. Barkers Island is a man-made island and in the hotel I imagine you have water views in just about every room. You are near about 4 different museums and not far from other points if interest in Superior WI, and about 10 minutes from Duluth, MN. The hotel appears to date from the 70s, but there have been some upgrades. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Not super-stylish. The bar is pretty popular and they have ample seating, and TVs if youre looking for sports. The food in the restaurant was good both times Ive eaten there. The strip steak, especially, but the broiled fish was also really tasty. The clientele runs to elderly folks and lots of families.
A few miles from downtown duluth, but well worth the little extra drive. The hotel was very inviting. The restaurant is excellent and the bar was busy for a thursday night. We didnt use the pool/hot tub but i will say it looked very inviting.I will book here again when i stay over in Duluth. My only complaint was the mini-fridge ran a little loud, unplugged it and problem solved.

Been staying here every year, for several years, to attend a work conference. Isnt the worst place to stay, but it isnt the best either. I see this year (2018) they are doing some much needed, past due, renovations to the interior. I was very much impressed with the renovated room we stayed in, but i had the feeling that the housekeeping staffed was rushed or negligent cleaning the room I was in. While plugging in a plethora of my accerories, I located an old used foam ear plug and half a consumed cracker behind the nightstand.
Great location with a venue that has much to offer.
Very pretty lobby. Rooms were nice, fairly simple decor. I liked the mini fridge and microwave. The college visit discount was an added bonus.

I am giving it a 4 star.......mainly for the price and also the location. It is located in a small island and surrounded by water, giving it a feeling like being secluded. A few things that can be improved, the cleanliness in the bathroom. The shower curtain in our room has black stuff on it (mold?). My son fell because the floor was wet in front of the vending machine. We stayed for 2 nights, and this area is wet quite often, may be because of people coming out from the pool area to use the vending machine ? The billiard/pool table, need to have it fixed.....was told not owned by the hotel. Oh yeah, one more thing.....the hotel probably could use a big sign with its name on the front of the building. Staffs were friendly, which is good. Will definitely consider coming back in the future....
Dirty carpet, towels had other people’s hair in it, mini fridge had mold, chair was dirty... overall not very clean at all.
The staff and owner are very good at their business. Service was prompt. Food was excellent. Pool and hot tub were available. Beds were comfy!! Will be back.
Disgusting, deceiving, and a kind sized room is smaller than my closet at home. Do not stay here, the price is the same as a nicer one downtown Duluth.
Amazing location, tired old rooms. Price is the leader here. Your right off of Lake Superior so the views will amaze you. The rooms are tired and old. Not even a full size iron board. Mold in the shower and the sink is 70s plastic and so low you have to bend over to even use the mirror. If you need basic room at a cheap price and done care souch about the room this is for you!
Disappointed, had a Monday and Tuesday planned for enjoying time along the North shore beyond Duluth, Minnesota . Come to find out Barkers restaurant was closed for cleaning due to the pandemic, and was not informed about this until after our arrival Sunday night . A bag with muffin, banana and fruit bar, bottle of water was provided instead for each person in the room . Should have been told !
This was the first time I have stayed there. The rooms where clean and very nice. Breakfast was delicious and free. I was very surprised at the price of the rooms. Cheaper than any where else. I will go back there always.
Great location but the rooms are definitely outdated. With the Covid 19 situation I dont think they even sanitized my room since we found hair everywhere
Old, its been a while since the last remodel. You really dont have any of the the comforts of home. Double beds, poor wifi, has the old hotel smell. The website made it out to be a little more glamorous but it did fall short. We paid 230 for a double room. A summer rate. Definitely not worth it.
We stayed over grandmas marathon weekend. Walk into the nice new lobby and then you walk to the rooms and wow, welcome to dated and worn down place. Signs are small and hard to read. We got 2 rooms. Our newer ac worked great. The mini fridge was louder than the ac. Desk table leg was broken and pulled into place. House keeping took the soap and didnt replace it. Other room had and older ac that didnt work so well, but a quiet fridge. Hallway walls were thin and I could hear everything. Not staying there again!

We had lunch and it was delicious. The fish was done well and the smashed potatoes were excellent. The Reuben sandwich was very tasty. We will be back again.

Definitely a dated place, however the staff was welcoming. The food was good although nothing stood out as outstanding. The salad was empty most of the time and when they did fill it there wasnt much options. It was clean and quiet but the whole place is in need of updates, cosmetic and food wise.

At first, when my friend booked our room at this place, I wasnt sure about it. But, I was COMPLETELY wrong about this place! I really loved our experience there! Our room was nice, the staff was friendly, and I really liked how the place looked inside. I also really liked the location. I had never been to Superior before, so that in of itself was cool. I love the small town feel :) But, the fact that its so close to Duluth, is a huge plus!! Another plus of this place is that it has a indoor pool and hot tub. After a day of being out, it was really nice to come back and relax in the hot tub. If I remember correctly, they had a bar/restaurant in the Inn. That is never a bad thing! If Im in the area again, Ill definitely stay here again! I highly recommend this place!
Amazing staff. We were i town for Grandmas marathon and had some reservation snafus. The staff here was amazing and so helpful. We cant wait for the next race so we can cone back.
The property has a wonderful setting with water on both sides. There is ample parking and swimming near-by. Had a pleasant stay.
Elevator sticks like pee. Ive complained multiple times about it during our week stay. The gentleman working the desk at 7 am was extremely rude. When I told him about it he basically called me a lier because no one else brought it to his attention. Beautiful view from out window. Breakfast was good. But hallway and elevator stinks definitely needs updated and cleaned better but thats just my opinion of this place.

Hotel is very good, I stayed 2 nights for UMD graduation. They will pay attention to your room. The toilets need a bit of attention though. The pool is so much fun, its free, you can bring toys. There is also a restaurant, I didnt eat there but I ate on the patio. Really fun. I greatly recommend this place.
No soap in the bathroom and busboy was in the stall. If youre going to wear masks I would think you want clean hands! They brought themashed potatoes after I was done with the mediocre meal. No breakfast as advertised, just a donut and piece of fruit in a brown paper bag.
Came in for relaxing swim and hot tub to be disappointed by young adults sharing private stuff out loud and playing loud music. Felt like Im back in high school and Im 45 years old.
I am a first timer to Duluth, I came with a fee other girls for girls night/birthday! The front desk was polite and very helpful throughout the stay! The room was spacious with a water front view that was beautiful! They had a designated smoking area that blocked the wind well, the Restaurant inside looked nice (we went out to eat at local places) the beds and pillows were by far my favorite though! So comfortable!

Location is lovely. People were very friendly. Decor is a bit dated, but generally well maintained.
We werent completely impressed. We paid $190 for 1 night for 3 children and 2 adults. Having a 10 month old, you have to make sure there is nothing on the floors. We found 4 different pieces of garbage under the beds. Some of the ceiling tiles throughout the hotel had big brown water marks. And for the price, you would think they would offer at least some muffins in a basket up by the front desk...
