I thought it was great a little lacking on the deer today but nice picks
Very natural in its layout, very few ppl per square mile, you will feel like youre on your own
Very secluded and quiet. Many hiking trails and vista viewpoints.
Not hunter friendly too many cabins not enough trails
If I had to name one place that always feels like home, this is the place. Tons of great trails and niches to explore that are well-traveled and maintained. Definitely recommend picking up a Purple Lizard Map if you plan on doing some exploring... it has all the trails (and cool secrets) that you need to navigate. Be sure to wear proper footwear and bring lots of water!
Awsome drive!! Beautiful surroundings, take a drive,
Tons of great trails for hiking and mountain biking exist in this forest. There are trails for all levels. Want an easy stroll along a stream? It is there. Want some elevation gain thrown in? You got it. Want to scramble up slippery moss covered rocks to hike along a ridge? Have it your way. You could easily spend an entire day and more just hiking here.
Hikers & bikers DELIGHT. Find serenity among hundreds of miles of single track, pristine springs, creeks, lakes w beaches, rocky trails, bear meadows natural area bog, wildlife, and more! Great place to forage for mushrooms and berries too!
Good hiking, Stunning views. Raspberries. Blueberries. Rocks!
The best thing State College has to offer. Come for the hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, camping, and back packing. Stay for the dense forest, beautiful vistas, and thriving wildlife.
Very beautiful and majestic.
Its beautiful here and so peaceful. We walked a trail and they have markings on the trees so you dont get turned around. If you love the outdoors and hiking I highly recommend coming here. They have numerous trails to choose from that lead to many places
Amazing preserved area. The forest is beautiful. Theres so much hiking available. Theres also camping at several sites with a free permit.
This review is for the Tussey Mt Trail. This is a great low incline trail running about 8 miles along a ridge on Tussey Mt. It offers phenomenal views on both sides of the mountain. The trail is rocky and narrow, and in some areas, the ledge is next to you, so watch your step. Ive hiked this trail a couple times and have hardly run into another person, particularly further up on the trail. This is my preference. There are several places to park and get onto the trail. Some small trails that connect to the main trail, though, are quite steep. If you are looking for some difficulty in your hike the Filmore Trail and Shingle path are great. I think my coonhound was a mountain goat in a former life as he loves these really steep trails. He loved hiking up Filmore Trail, where I parked and got onto the Tussey Mt trail from, and then tried pulling me down Shingle Path, which was too steep for me. If you are like me, and not my hound, and want a steady low level hike, then just stay on Tussey Mt Trail. You are in for a bit of a laugh if you walk all the way to the end of the trail to where it forks off to Camp Trail or down to Treaster Kettle Rd. There is a beer tap landmark in the middle of the trail. Alas, there is no beer. My coonhound was very upset by this realization. From there you can go straight, right or left. I went left and took Camp Trail down to Corner Rd which meets up with Bear Meadows Rd. As I write this review, I had parked on Bear Meadows Road where the Filmore Trail begins. I just had to walk about a half mile back up to my car.So, if you want a rather easy hike on top of the mountain with some awesome near 360 views, silence, and few people, check out Tussey Mt Trail.
Absolutely lovely! So wild and beautiful.
Had a great day
This is wrong.... not really sure how this was posted here. ROCKY RIDGE PARK near York, PA is the correct location for this review. We do the Xmas light display every Christmas. It is very nice and a good price with some food and millions of light worth the drive. Remember to bundle up it get cold up there.
We camp here and hike and love it!
Really big sites. Just need a permit to get a site in the forest. Great trails, took opportunity of trails that were underdevelop made for a great climb to top of mid state trail
Beautiful forest with large number of well maintained hiking trails.
Great place to walk
Its a beautiful area to hike in but the trails are not clearly marked and a few were overgrown when I visited. That being said, the vistas are beautiful and the Indian Steps Trail is one of many wonderful paths in the area. Be sure to take in the views on the drive from Penn State to Rothrock!
Great place to bring with family .
Lovely view from some of the upper roads
Incredible trail system and riding for people who enjoy challenging technical riding. PA jank at its finest
Great hike on biglow trail

Tons of trails for hiking and bicycling in a mountain setting. Many streams, and some nice vistas.
Beautiful scenery, fresh air.
It was a really good place to hike. Me and one of my friends went there and we were hiking for hours before we got bored. I would definitely recommend it
A gem of a state forest located near State College, with plenty of access and a good selection of trails of varying difficulty. Home to a portion of the Mid State Trail, which provides some pretty overlooks and views of the PA Ridge and Valley region. Home to some unique habitats, with the chances to see some rarely seen PA flora and fauna. Highly recommended if youre in the State College area and want an easy escape to the hills.
Great trail, good amount of parking
Best place to hike and bike around State College. So many fun trails to take!
Gorgeous views
It is a lovely place to visit. We see deer and wildlife while there all the time. Quiet and peaceful place to spend time with family.
Nature at its best! Boating and fishing! Beautiful scenery!
Beautiful country. Big woods, lots of trails that are rugged but maintained. Great experience.
Beautiful hiking and mountain biking trails. Extremely well maintained and very well marked.
Nice roads, interesting plants. Great views. Problems with invasive species on some slopes suggest that roadsides get sprayed occasionally.
Very few other people seen. Roads in good shape
Awesome, quiet, great views. Well marked trails.
Beautiful trails. Well marked
Well kept and a great get away
The forest is always beautifully
Amazing. I go here looking for wildlife all the. Time. All trails are gorgeous
Always beautiful!
Nice biking destination and hiking place around the area.
Beautiful trail. But no trail marks on the trees. Easy to get lost.
I have been on two sides, up by Tussey Mountain and over on Shingletown Gap. Beautiful hiking!
Vert rocky, but fun trail.
So beautiful! An amazing and pretty easy hike to do with friends or family.
Took a walk with the wife and family. Sassafras trail is wonderful.
Saw a magnificent big black timber rattler buzzing off into the weeds as I came down Little Shingletown Trail. Beautiful hike! A tree expert on the trail pointed out a couple of nice chestnut trees too.
Ive been there opening day of trout 11 of the last 13 years. A wonderful place
One of the best go tos for endless hiking trails!
Well manicured nice walking areas needs better cell coverage though
So back to nature!
Very pretty place I love camping and I wish I couldve stayed in the area longer

Beautiful park, well maintained, and lots of different things to see and do. Ive lived near it my whole life and Im still discovering new areas to explore and new ways to do so
Beautiful views and quiet
Beautiful forest. Rugged terrain. Endless trails and gravel roads to explore. Natural springs have the best water year-round. Get the Purple Lizard map!
Love hunting here
First time in Roth Rock. Rode the Tussey Mountain trail and a few others. Any avid mountain biker should put Roth Rock on there to do list. Ill be back. Not sure what took me so long to get here?
State parks are always a great to visit
Beautiful place to visit. Scenery is breathtaking. Would love to come back again
Fantastic park
One of my favorite places to visit for peace and quiet.
It was great to drive around and do all sorts of activities
Roth Rock has very accessible, maintained, and marked trails just outside of State College. Shingletown Gap can be a short walk with a scenic creek, mountain laural, and hemlock trees, or a longer walk 3-ish miles to the top of a mountain. Looking for a map: check out Purple Lizzard Maps!
There are many hikes in this place. By far some of my best adventures of my life have happened here. Best hikes I have ever been on. Definitely worth a go.
Rugged trails, great views.
Great place to explore beautiful Pennsylvania. There is great hiking on the mid state trail and a small state park campground here as well.
