Upbeat atmosphere, pool table, live bands, and $6 monkey boys all day everyday. If you come early with friends you can score one of the three booths or seats at the bar otherwise probably come in later for the band. $5 cover most nights. The majority of their bartenders are pretty decent.

I was at the saloon on Friday January 17. It was just before midnight so I suppose that I was there on the early hours of the 18th when the incident occurred. I waited about a half hour to order my drink, and once I finally did, the black bartender with tattoos gave my drink to someone else and replied, “if you stick your card out at me, I won’t serve you,” and I sarcastically replied “That’s how it works at a bar, have you ever been to one?” Then the bartender told me, “if I weren’t working right now, I’d knock your teeth out.” I’m unsure if that’s appropriate behavior, but my guess is no. How despicable? You’d expect better behavior in service but I guess not tonight. Terrible. If I ran a business that bartender would be unemployed.

GREAT BAND. Absolutely awful service. 10/10 dont recommend. Waited 25+ minutes at bar for drinks.

The Saloon is a favorite among the college crowds owing to the popular Monkey Boys and cheap beer specials. There is often live music, but you will need to pay cover most nights. Be aware that monkey boys are not always on special, so youll pay a nasty $12 instead of $5 if you go on the wrong day/time. It gets very crowded late at night, weekends, and football weekends. Wednesday is a big night at Saloon if you need a mid-week hoorah. The toilet situation is like most other State College bars.... A long wait for the ladies. They have some seating, but it mostly gets snatched up by early-comers. The wait staff and bar tenders are great and professional, but it can take awhile to be served. Its underground, so dont expect any views, but its a great party once a good band takes the stage. Awesome for dancing in a non-club atmosphere.

Strawberry, pineapple, and mango monkey boys! Absolutely loved this place, went in as soon as they opened so pretty empty and chill, within half an hour the crowd started rolling in. Very fun atmosphere. :)

My favorite bar in State College. Been here atleast 1000 times and remember none of them. My drink of choice here is the one armed bandit

Bands Ive seen here on the weekend were enjoyable, monkey boys are almost sickeningly sweet but cheap when on special, mens bathroom is a trough in a closet space.

This bar is okay during the week, but too crowded during the weekends. They can be really bad about charging cover even if it is empty, and the bands are more annoying than good. The bathrooms are also disgusting and the bartenders can be hit or miss. I would occasionally come back just for the monkey boy deals.

Spent lots of time here as a student. Good live music. Try a monkey boy at least once.

While this might be a basement bar, its probably one of the best basement bars in town. Get a monkey boy.

Bathrooms need cleaned bad and the hardwood floor needs professional cleaning fun time tho monkeyboys are great

Pitchers of Monkey Boys are the go to drink at this State College establishment. In the evening there is typically live music or karaoke. You dont go for the cleanliness of this place, but for the good times that are had at The Saloon.

In my opinion it is the typical overcrowded dark basement bar in State College. It has a special drink called a monkeyboy.
