Great place to camp and go fishing. Campground is clean. Lots of options for both large campers and tent campers. If you pay attention to your campsite you can find a tent site in the woods away from the main road and about a 50 foot walk through the the woods to the lake (try site 23). Boat landing is clean and wide, able to launch 5 boats at one time. But if you dont have a boat you can find plenty of places to fish from the marina docks, landing docks, or various other locations. Easy to catch bluegill with worms almost everytime we visit.
Well maintained state park. Camping area is very nice with space between each site, lots of level pads for trailer/RV camping with electric hookups and primitive spots with no hookups. Bathrooms/showers are clean.
We visited on a sunday, there was plenty of parking, the bathrooms were decently clean, the water cool and refreshing on a hot day, and the water seems clean. I would recommend water shoes though, some of the people in our group stepped on some unfriendly rocks in the water. We took a group of 20 people ranging from 2 years old to 74 years old, and we had a blast! We even found a tree to have lunch under!
The park is beautiful, especially at night to watch the sun setting over the lake. However, I wish the community would do more with the area. The beach is gravel more than sand and the visitors dont always take good care of the area. It could be a vital and flourishing area of Springfield but needs some additional funding and staffing to make sure it has a family friendly vibe and isnt just abandoned to the worst of Springfield.
Pretty nice campground! Improved since I was a kid (25 years ago). Bathrooms are a little rough, numerous stall locks broken, shower temp was just above lukewarm, but the showerhouse is heated slightly in the cold months which was great. They said the showerhouse is operational until about second week of November, potable water is available all year long. We camped Halloween night and actually walked around to see if anyone was giving out candy, tons of sites did! We had buckets full of candy! Lots of fun, 1 Lakeview Trail in the campground, nice playground.
Beautiful spaces, clean, and well laid out, this will definitely be on my return and recommend list. I stayed in an electric camp spot with my tent and felt like it was well tended, well keep, and a great base to work from for a few days. The beaches were nice and friendly, trails were enjoyable, and folks were friendly. Camp store was closed due to corona, but plenty of reasonable nearby options available. My one frustration was unclear check in process with the office closed, but a small issue easily managed. I will be back!
Lovely water! Great for boating, if you like that. Nice camping area too. We like to go and watch the sunset. There is a disc golf course, as well as light hiking.
We use the bridal trails. Although there had been recent rain these were the best trails in the area to wide with minimal mud issues
Amazing place to walk, chill, run, picnic, relax. So many trails and spots to be. Fun little beach, great views of the reservoir and dam, more trails than you explore in a day. Seems like great fun with a bike. Peaceful, lots of birds, walkers, families. Interesting 70s vibe. Clean and working facilities (bathrooms), and was safe and friendly. Definitely going back.
A nice park but I didnt think it was equipped with enough signs on the roads leading into the park. Took to many wrong turns. There werent any dumpsters at the dump station so take your trash out before that. The trail that we took was along the water. It was nice but people dont care if they leave trash behind. But over all I wish we could have stayed a little longer to check out the beach and the pier. It was nice. On a side note does anyone else have trouble with ohio State reservations site? I always have issues. So maybe its me.
This park is absolutely beautiful! There are so many things for families to enjoy. The scenery is breathtaking. Cant wait to visit again.
Nice place and nice camping area. Only complaint is that we wish they would clean the bathrooms at least once a day. All stalls on the mens room were out of toilet paper for over 24 hours.
Short stay so only watched the sunrise and sunset from the shoreline....man it was beautiful. Very nice flat campsites also and friendly hosts.
Its a fairly large lake and like most operated by the State of Ohio fairly clean but operated on a tight budget. Carry in carry out please. There is a challenging disc golf course. Hiking and camping. This park it more about the water though.
Good lake for boating, though shoreline fishing is limited mostly to the riprap wall around the spillway. Some hiking trails, but nothing really spectacular to see. The Crabil homestead is worthwhile and the prairie area attracts lots of wildlife watching opportunities. Hunting is next to impossible from crowding and the numerous horse and bike trails intersecting the North end of the park. Lots of potential...but could use some work.
Just a beautiful place to enjoy the scenery, fishing, boating, camping, ect. Something for everyone ️ Also, very clean!
Enjoy walking the trails ..zMy daughter and son in law is coming from Cincinnati to.pick me we are going back out there when they get here ...
Relaxing area for a birthday party or reunion or picnic. Nice playground for kids. Shelter kept us dry during a short downpour.
Really laid-back and peaceful. Nice hide away to relax.
Good fishing. Clean beach area. Just a nice place all around.
Beautiful park, really nice campgrounds. 5 stars for clean shower houses and a dedicated primitive loop. Big plus that there is a cut through from the primitive sites to the shower house. 1 star for really bad neighbors with loud music and cars running and coming and going after 11pm and no one shutting it down. 10/10 would still reccomend because you always get the occasional jerk anywhere.
Beautiful place with a nice little beach - a real hidden gem especially in the fall.
Have an area for RC planes or rocketry. boating, swimming, camping, hiking. public hunting area. fishing ok not had alot of lick here but pan fish are good in spring near marina
This place is absolutely beautiful, has spectacular views, nice nature trails, clean public restrooms, a playground for the children and a place just to relax, take time to yourself or connect with with someone in a peaceful environment outside. Pretty place to take pictures too. Or at least I sure did while I was there and enjoyed every minute I was there with my family.
Hiking at Parrie Park at the dam...great experience
HORRIBLE place to camp! We were incredibly disappointed with this location. Booking was a nightmare because there was no information the website, hours are completely wrong in terms of the office hours (we asked and they told us one thing to show up and were closed). We had to book a non-electric site because it was fully booked (no big deal) except for the fact that if you book an electric cite you have access to the bathrooms (which were DISGUSTING and no soap let alone cleaned) and other amenities which you dont in the non-electric cite. It would be ok if it wasnt such a walk to get to a bathroom which are not available if your non-electric cite. While they are trying to practice social distancing the cites are so close together thats its impossible. You are literally right on top of the person next to you with NO PRIVACY! You literally can see what everyone is doing in the camp cite which really takes away from the camping experience. The camp cite was so nice to give us a camping spot right next to the main road which again has no privacy! When we 1st got there we were promply greated by a couple (which I assumed worked there) to warn us that the people next to us were very loud the night before after asking if we were associated with them (yeah great 1st impression ). Its 2.5 miles into the woods which would assume you would be surrounded by nature..yeah right! Beach thats near by was a disappointment since its littered with rocks in the water. The mariana cafe is a joke so dont even bother. There are a lot more issues with this place but honestly i would never visit again! DO NOT COME HERE! This place needs shut down!
Great place to windsurf! Been coming here with Tom Goff for over 30 years!
Beautiful campground. The lake is a real gem. We came to ride our bicycles on the numerous paths. Having a wonderful time
My sons Scout Troop used a couple spots for camping. Clean restrooms. Hot water. We had a good weekend 9.
Nice beach with public restrooms (with flush). Well maintained park. Beautiful lake and dam.
I love Buck Creek State Park. I also like the federal side. There are tons of shelters tons of hiking and biking trails. Lots of places to fish from. Plenty of places to launch kayaks and canoes. A huge Campground with plenty of amenities and lots of cabins better very clean and very nice its a huge part plenty of things to explore plenty of places to go. not always are lots of pain demon has lots of backcountry camping for free or islands in the back side of the part that are Army Corps Engineers that you cant I think I asked to the island take your things out there and Camp its pretty cool massive massive take advantage of it if you have to run or bike or Id just be in the water with a good place to be
This was the 40th anniversary of my first trip to BUCK CREEK and my 21st consecutive stay. It is now the official site of our Annual Family Reunion and Family Holiday. The cabins are well maintained and the park offers an opportunity to experience nature and still be close to civilization.
I went camping for the first time. I stayed in a colemans pull behind. I had a great camping site. I had a fire ring and electric hookups. I even brought my dogs. We werent far from the beach. The dogs loved it and so did I. I cant wait to go back.
Nice atmosphere diverse crowd but not to many people and that sunset...Ill be back tomorrow
I grew up swimming, fishing and boating here, now my grandbabies are doing the same. Looks like they are improving the beach/bath house area. Really appreciated the long switchback ramps instead of the steep downhill walk from the parking lot. I think we but the last day warm enough in the year for them to jet ski.
We enjoyed our camping experience this week. Very peaceful. Just be watchful of deer crossing the road.
Nice to take the kids kinda dirty but it’s still fun and there is people who clean it up :)
Its always easy to social distance while your on the water!
Fun in the sun
Beach, boat ramps, disc golf course, horse trails, and campgrounds. Very nice area and the disc golf course is pretty difficult and there are two baskets for each hole. Lake is good for boating and kayaking. Beach is like a sand/rock mix.
It was very relaxing. N had very friendly people there. Love IT!!
It was the best place to spend a week fishing was good the kids had a blast plenty of things to do we even had a family volleyball game camp sites were amazing
Love it here. My family visits as much as possible. Clean showers and bathrooms on site camp store and on weekends they offer movies on the big screen and have popcorn for .25 Rootbeer floats and cotton candy for a 1.00 donation. On site park makes it great for the kids .
I love it here! It is beautiful and a great place to go for camping, walking, picnics, light hiking, disc golf, fishing.. ETC!
Amazing beach amazing water... sand has the consistency of cat litter tho
I enjoy taking my dog here to walk along the beach. I like the walkways down the hill and the sidewalk that runs the length of the beach. Dont have to get your feet sandy if you dont want to.Prefer it to Caesar Creek.
Not a bad place. See a lot of wildlife. Even has a couple of campsites sort of in the woods. A private camper beach. Even has cabins .Would like more trails to hike. Great weekend get away.
Water has a rocky bottom and there is a fairly large hill to go down and up in order to get to and from the beach area
Everything was great and experience was fun except for the bathrooms. Very disgusting. If the State of Ohio owns these parks, they should keep up with the parks and bathrooms.
I just love the view I do hate the rocks in the water it hurts my feet but I love going there with my family and friends its a really great spot to go and just relax.
This was our 1st trip to Buck creek and let me just say we were impressed. Our cabin was an upgraded one and it was beautiful, very clean and nice comfy beds. 1 bedroom has a queen and the 2nd bedroom has new bunk beds and a queen. I could live there. Saw lots of deer, raccoons, bunnies, and even skunks. Great place to hike or fish. We fished from shore and didnt catch anything however we had a great time! We will come back for longer stay.
They cleaned the beach extremely good.. it was very nice.. heres a tip.. if u go there at 8 am you have the entire beach pretty much to urself.. I do this every time I go there which lately is every weekend. Everyone keeps their distance as well. Only thing I do like is the hill I have to walk back up.. lol..
Nice park...hard to find a bathroom though..
Need to clean up dog poo close to the beach but thats my only complaint. Water was beautiful cant wait to return to walk the trail
Very beautiful place to visit or to just escape when you need to clear your head
Plenty of space nice lakeside trail for hiking, also a beach, horsetrails,Frisbee golf...lots too do.
Huge park, beautiful lake, nice trails.
Great place to hike with the kiddos
Nice down here but we need a night light. A sign for speed. People are driving way to fast for children playing and horses.
Nice park. Large beach area, acres of wilderness. Campgrounds were noce also.
Very nice and very clean! Just didnt love it when you walk into the water and its all rocks. I even went a little deeper and it was still rocks. Not something they can obviously help but I wouldnt want to go back because of it..
Theres beauty to be found everywhere...You just gotta know where to look...As much as I abhor this town, theres ALWAYS something to help you look at the positives. Thats why so many people get so content here, and even leave and come bk again and again. This is where Im from so Ill ALWAYS visit from time to time. But whenever I pic up my family and go, Ill finally be able to say I made the dream come true......
Great place for a quick swim or just play in the water. Not many people on a Thursday. Nice stop.
Its a great place to go for a walk or to go fisging!
Great relaxing place 2 exercise or just walk and or fish love this place great for dog walks
Always a favorite. I state park hopping, great rental cabins, boat rentals, and very nice beach!
This place really needs upkeep. Dont know if the funds got cut? This place use to be a really well kept place. It is showing other things now. Wow. Havent visited for some time. I see such a difference. Really needs attention.
Fun disc golf course. Needs the signs that are missing, replaced.
We love this state park. Sometimes we stay in the older standard cottages and sometimes we stay in the remodeled preferred cottages. If you can afford it its worth the upgrade. If not youll still have a great time. There is a lot of easy walking and trails. This is an excellent place to ride a bicycle. The lake is warm and beautiful but in most cases the beach is covered with geese droppings. Everything you could need is a short drive away. If you need a restaurant or grocery store its only five to fifteen minutes away.
It was a decent place but the day that we went it was very rainy and stormy but its clean and not so bad it wasnt too crowded but we had a very fun time it was a very clean and nice place. We will be there again.
Always a great time at buck creek camp ground.
Not alot to it. Small beach area. Not alot of playgrounds or things to do.
Great place to fish, hike, family gatherings or taking the kiddos to the park
Perfect day for fishing, had a great time!!
We spent a week with a camping lot and a cabin. It was a great time. I will definitely be returning more often than before to camp.
Had a great time in the water with Duke! Saw a doe and fawn and then a young buck! Beautiful!!
Ive been here several times over the years. Quality fishing and recreational areas, picnic pavillions, camping, hunting and biking/running trails. There is no on site bait and tackle store, but there are plenty within a few miles. Its a great spot to bring the family or if you want to enjoy the outdoors.
Never to crowded and a great place to go boating!
We have a family vacation every year we picked the state park this year we had a blast and lots of quality family time the cabins were great we were in cabins 22 23 and 24 lots of deer lots of raccoons 1 skunk and some Wildcats it was like a condo in the woods
Nice place to walk with your family, looks pretty and well kept up with. The park isnt trashy looking and dirty.
Good place to fish, camp, have picnics, boating, ect.
My hunting would be better if people would not try to bait the deer
Warmer temps on this day. We decided to spring for a little picnic at Buck Creek. We used the only picnic table in the area and not many folks about.Just a splendid time.
To be a state park the bath rooms should be in better shape and cleaner
I love it there only place I can go and not know anyone
Went walking on the trails. The trails are well maintained even through this pandemic.
Come on, planned some more trees. It would be nice to have some natural shade. Just of the beaches.
Love this wonderful gem right outside of our city
If you like the outdoors youll love this place . Great walking, camping, and swimming areas. They also have good fishing, and a good place to boat at. The beach is clean and always make good memories. Picnic and alot of other stuff to do. Treasure hunts and bird watching.
LOVE camping here!!! Have been here probably 4-5 time in the last 2 summers. We have never had a bad experience here till this wkend ( which is why I wouldn’t give it a bad review/stars bc all other times have been great). So this was our first time this summer camping here and the camp host on site 38 is so rude and unhappy. She parked like 3 ft from our friends camper and he went over to see if he could help her (bc we thought she was there for us and needed something) and she said “do you see this spot all this grass is my site” in a rude tone. We were blown away bc we have never had anything but a good exp we just thought she needed something. And by the way she had her driveway and closer to her camper available. So being parked within 3 ft of their parking pad was a bit much. The camp host from lot 38 rode around on a golf cart with a unhappy face every time we seen her the whole wkend. She just seemed miserable. Other than that we always have a good time and they have a campground beach!
Beautiful. Beat place for a walk in the area.
