Very nice people working there. Went to see Alfred Hitchcocks (the original) PHYSCO from 1960 on Halloween night. I had a beer and some popcorn. They serve wine as well. Limited seating and mask on when not eating or drinking... but we all could expect that. But I had a great time.
This place is a hidden gem in Springfield. So much culture in one spot. Film is an incredible way to see things through a different lens, and Moxie creates just that.
Incredibly nice staff that seem to really care about movies and love their jobs. Its the only place where you could see alot of the best films of that year. My favorite theatre ever and one of my favorite places on earth (not hyperbole)
Very small, sells alcohol, popcorn and drinks are reasonable. Only plays a few movies at a time. Typically highly rated or niche movies and such. As well as some classics. One of the best theatre experiences.
We greatly enjoyed our visit to this location. Building was well maintained and prices for drinks and snacks was acceptable. While title could be viewed elsewhere, the intimate theater experience is an amazing comfort. Will return again and tell friends.
The Moxie brings artistic films to Springfield that we would otherwise have to travel to see. I love everything about The Moxie. It makes Springfield a better place to live.
This is the best small theater in Springfield. Because they are independent, you are not forced to sit through 45 minutes of ads and previews. They limit the previews to things that will actually be at the Moxie soon.A staff member comes in and introduces the movie, talks about upcoming events, etc. The audience tends to be respectful and engaged. I try to go here every year when I visit.
I have been going to the Moxie Cinema for years but this was my first time in this particular location and i brought my daughter to the short series about bedtime movies. I really liked this location for the theater downtown and hope that it does well here! The employees at the moxie are always kind and friendly
Love the Moxie!! Support it! They fill a rare needed niche in films. Great customer service and neat historical place
I recently viewed a late evening viewing of “Echoes In the Canyon.” I was the only one in attendance. Regrettably, I was late to the movie (about 10 minutes) but the staff was generous and hospitable. After getting a popcorn and a pint glass of water (which was free) I was ushered into the theater. The Moxie employee waited for me to be seated and then started the movie for me! The theater was small and a little dated. The sound quality left a lot to be desired. However if your looking for a place to view smaller art or indie films, it’s a good option.
A cute little indie cinema with a wide variety of older and small films. I went to see Blinded By The Light and the seats were great and the price was lower than most theaters. My only (small) complaint was that there was no music to accompany the ads (which were of the cinemas upcoming events) before the trailers, so the theater was eerily quiet. Worth going to if theres a movie you want to see!
This local arthouse cinema has two screens and brings in movies which might otherwise be missed. In my opinion it is better than the equivalents theaters in St. Louis and KC.
Art house movies. Great snacks and wine options. Fabulous date night.
The Moxie is a block away from my favorite multiplex, but sometimes the movies I dont get to see until Blu-ray dont get shown there. So its worth keeping an eye on The Moxie, which runs special events and short runs of independent movies, or the smaller ones that arent raking in millions at the box office but have a lot to say and can be quite the experience.I attended a screening of Judy and bought a small popcorn to enjoy. The Moxie only has two auditoriums, which are on the smaller size, but are clean and have comfortable seats. I sat in about the middle of the auditorium and had a nice, clear view of the screen and enjoyed the audio. I enjoyed that pre-trailer commercials were simply slides and not annoying videos. There were only three trailers before the movie. The Moxies tickets are modestly priced at $9 for adults, with discounts for kids, seniors, students, etc. The small popcorn was only $3.50 and delicious. They also offer drinks and candy, but I decided not to partake this time.Ill definitely be coming back!
Very cool artsy movie house. Featuring great old movies from the past, documentaries and current features. Very friendly staff. Comfortable seats with smaller screens. Great popcorn.
This is actually a pretty cool little place. Didnt know it was there for the longest time
Anybody whos anybody in the arts knows the moxie is that spot. Regular local film screenings and all kinds of other super neat stuff. Great for a date night, me time night, inspiration or networking. Get on down there!
Super fun little theater. They get many of the latest Indy movies and a great string of classics. However they are limited on showtimes, space, and accomodations, due to the theaters size.I would say that Alamo gets the same movies, and has more to offer as far as space and food.
Cool little indie movie theater in Downtown Springfield. I watched Honeyland there and it was great!
Saw Downton Abbey on a rainy Sunday. The theater was comfortable, staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Always a good time at the Moxie.
Expensive!!!!!! Its a movie jeeze
The Moxie is so supportive of our local film endeavors. We just went to the SATO48 screenings they host every year. Plus a good place to watch films that arent showing other places. Besides, they sell beer :)
Staff were really nice, it was comfortable too, the food was good, and it was just a really nice experience for a small theater
I love this movie house! Dedicated to independent art films. Cute, clean and they offer the usual popcorn and candy and also other snacks and alcoholic beverages. They have a sitting area to enjoy a drink before the show starts. And there is a free parking lot close to the theater.
The moxie works with the local schools to offer discounts to students and film showings for the students and the public to interact. They show many films other theaters do not show. They have a variety of snack items, but they are only snacks. The seats are comfortable and in good condition
Excellent place to watch interesting movies. Friendly staff and good value. From Oscar nominated films and documentaries, to old classics.
Everyone who lives in Springfield knows the Moxie as the place to see independent films you cannot otherwise see in theaters. Relaxing and quaint. Enjoy a beer or other fun beverage during the flick.
Super adorable place, just a fun experience.
Great local independent theater. Always has interesting films. Right downtown too, so great for dinner and a movie.
I think it a hidden gem of Springfield. Secluded and romantic. Love the movie choices that you don’t see in chain movie theaters. Omg I can believe the tickets were $6 a piece, that alone deserves 5 stars.
Great place if you like hard-to-find movies, and then listening to people talk throughout the entire thing. Seriously, 9 times out of 10 its the absolute worst crowd you could ask for. Pretty sure the guy behind me was chewing sunflower seeds for the last hour of the movie. And the staff will make absolutely no effort to ensure that human adults will act like human adults and stay quiet throughout the movie. Id rather sit through Gone With the Wind in a room full of infants than any given movie here with adults, because at least then I could say the infants dont know any better.Only reason Im going here is because I determined to watch all Oscar nominees this year, and unfortunately this about the only place you can. As soon as the Oscars are over, though, Im never coming back.
The best cinema in the area. Always top notch selection of independent films. Always clean. Friendly staff.
What great movies they have here, so glad I could become a member and thus support them further.
Just went to watch a screening for SATO48-2019, and was very impressed by friendly staff and a cool clean atmosphere. Ill definitely be returning.
We love the Moxie! Its such a warm and friendly theater, with close parking! We love being able to see new movies in the afternoon.
Great employees
Love everything about this concept. Should be supported.
What a gem! We were looking for a place to watch Wont You Be My Neighbor (2018) about the life work of Mister Rogers & are all so glad we found Moxie Cinema in the process-- we will be back! Great theater for the whole family.
Always a good date choice. Movies are unique and theaters are clean. I love that an employee comes in to the theater to introduce the movie and give some background on the films location or actors or movie plot. Small town feel.... we will be back, again and again.
Great cinema experience. Local film, lesser known films and events (for example, the noir film fest showcasing classics from the 40’s and 50’s) make this the go-to downtown art house venue. Mike is doing a terrific job. Support local businesses!
We always have a great experience at the Moxie and have been there many times. I am so glad they are here to provide us with movies you cant see at the mainstream movie theatres. The Moxie staff is friendly and the theatre is always very clean when we visit.
Very cool little theater. Love it.
Great venue for and great selection of art house films.
I love this little independent theater. They do so many cool things for kids. Moxie mornings is done about once a month and it is for younger kids. They do crafts and then watch short films. It is free. It is a cozy place with comfortable seating. We have seen several good movies here, movies we wouldnt usually get an opportunity to see elsewhere.
My Sister and a friend of hers and I visited The Moxie on 7/14 to see Ill See You In My Dreams. This was my first time and their second time at this location. Not only did we all love the movie but we loved the atmosphere. The Staff is so friendly and helpful. They certainly appear to love their jobs. The theaters was so comfortable it was almost like sitting in your own living room except the screen was much nicer. I really like that you can see movies that you arent able to see in the mainstream theaters. The whole experience was just more personable. I am also a fan of being able to see a good movie early on a Monday or Tuesday for $6.00.
Very friendly and polite workers. The theatre room 1 is small, but not too small - a comfortable medium size. The seats are comfortable as well, and overall the space is very nice to be in. One of my new favorite places!
This is my absolute FAVORITE place to watch movies. I love it here. The customer service is awesome, the sound is great, it isnt crowded, and they show way more cool and unique films. I adore the fact that they play indie films.
Love the Moxie. Snacks available include beer and wine. Theres an entrance from the parking garage with the entrance on McDaniel. This is a small, independent theater, so dont expect something different. This is your only shot to see a lot of movies in the theater in SW MO.
Quaint, comfortable theater surrounding, with more class than the traditional theater. You wont see the blockbuster here. You will, however, find great independent smaller budget films that display the actors true talents. Great date location as children are a rarity.
The Moxie is such a great theatre! Quality films and informative, helpful staff!
Really nice indie theater. Its small but very cozy. They sell good alcohol as well
This is a great independent theater. Serves beer and wine along with regular concessions. Very popular so arrive early. Free parking.
Great little theater. Ive always loved this place. They have movies you wouldnt get to see otherwise, and also beer and wine.
Small and Intimate. Great for people who dont care for large, crowded venues.
Seats are upgraded and much more comfortable. Please support this local place for a variety of movies and documentaries.
Had a pleasant time. Staff great. Good atmosphere, enjoyed the smaller theatre.
The Moxie is an Independent Film Theater located in Springfield Mo. Its in a new location and features two Theaters with a theme of Red Leather and Black walls and floor. Moxie boasts new state of the art projection and sound systems, The Theater screens the finest films of our age week in and week out. It often shows future award winning films long before the hit typical movie theaters. Moxie is the ideal location for adult age film goers and special childrens showings are offered one day a week.
Good place to see art in motion! Support local!!
Comfortable traditional seats. Enjoy an adult bevie.
If you love independent cinema, the The Moxie is exactly where you want to go. They are the only theatre that sells beer in the southern MO area and they have the cheapest popcorn you will find anywhere. Also, everyone on the staff loves movies so the environment is really warm and relaxed. I live 30 miles away but its always more than worth the trip.
Moxie Cinema is a gem. Small-scale (only 2 theaters that seat maybe 40 people), not-for-profit, primo downtown location with free parking in the attached parking garage, and most importantly- a knowledgeable, helpful staff. Highly Recommended!
The moxie is a great local cinema. You can see movies here that will never play on most screens.
Great little theater. Member supported. Exceptionally clean. Very accommodating.
An intimate and comfortable place to enjoy a movie. The staff are very nice. We are lucky to have the Moxie in downtown Springfield!
Moxie is always great!! SATO48 makes it perfect!
I enjoyed the movie and the staff were great.
Moxie Cinema provides the best film-viewing experience in Springfield, MO: a daring selection of independent, foreign and classic films presented in elegant facilities on a human scale. The places boasts two confortable theaters equipped for digital projection. To top it off, the staff is friendly and passionate about cinema. Although they appreciate the popcorn business, the concession prices are kept reasonably low and the selection includes nice brews, quaint sodas, awesome coffee and other local treats. If you reside in the area, it is also important to note that Moxie Cinema is a non-profit with a great membership system. Becoming a member gives sweet perks and allows you to make a tax-deductible contribution. Supporting the art of cinema in the Ozark is a privilege only Moxie Cinema can give you.
Right next to a parking garage and supports more local movies a great place to catch a hidden gem.
Just saw Green Book at the Moxie a great movie at a great theatre.
First time and it was great! Small but good seating and comfortable.
I love doing moxie mornings with my son. Thank you for this
Nice little theatre. We watched a documentary about Mr Rogers and it was transcendental.
A nice change from the usual night out or even from the movie theater. The Moxie offers indie films and various other events. Im glad to have something like this in Springfield.
Shows smaller, quirkier, more independently produced flicks in a small, two screen venue. Every movie is individually introduced by staff and it adds to a greater, more intimate experience. Wine and beer is available.
Nice Theatre first time Ive ever been and will be back very nice
Great place to catch a non-mainstream movie. They have tons of events all the time and are wonderful people to work with.
Its not like the AMC, its not like Regal Station, its not big, nor is it grand. Thats what makes this place so great. Its one of the only places to watch unique films thats not in other theaters and plus, if you go, youre supporting a local theater.
Great little place. Love the micro brew beer selection.
Good small but friendly staff
A fun place to watch a movie. Not all hoopla but very personable.
I can drink beer and watch Tremors! Mondo movie night is my new addiction, they serve local beer, prices are remarkably low for a theatre. I love being able to go see documentaries or foreign films!
Nice smaller theater with great movies you cant see anywhere else in town. Always enjoy going.
My son and I love Moxy Mornings. Amazing indie theater in Springfield a must go to.
Every town needs a Moxie. Only theater in town for independent releases. Plus theres beer, better & cheaper popcorn & other refreshments. This is no multiplex but the seats are pretty darn good.
Another great movie! Mr. Rodgers neighborhood. I have yet to see a bad movie or have a bad experience here.
Friendly, comfy cinema with special showings of local works, national programs, and documentaries that you cant find anywhere else. They also have wine and premium chocolate which makes the experience even better!
Nice seats
Nice for a different kind of move experience
Art house films - the best
Nice theater. Cosy and comfortable. Great prices on Monday and Tuesday.
The Moxie is a great place to see independent and let know films. Its a great place for a date night.
Not crowded, offers a good variety of snacks for a small theater, plays newer movies as well as classics.
Favorite place to see a movie. The Moxie offers memberships with discounts, wonderful independent and classic films, local beer, and pair with Mothers Brewery for backyard movie nights that are the highlight to any Springfield visit.
Files you will not see other places in town, clean and good screens and walking distance for some nice restaurants, basically a great evening out.
An awesome independent movie theater in downtown Springfield a definite go again.
Fun, relaxing.. Perfect place for girls night out.
Cute little Theatre! Parking nearby!
Ive been very unimpressed every time I went. They get some great movies you can see anywhere else though, so its good for an occasional treat, but they dont do a good job of advertising or managing showtimes and runs.
Very clean. G9od prices. Nice people. Zero complaints.
