Hiked the nearly 7 mile Knothead Loop trail on Nov. 21st from east to west returning along the Little Spokane River. Great variety in terrain, views and points of interest. Would rate it as moderate.
So peaceful & quiet..make sure you have a discover pass! the park ranger was in parking lot
Nice walking trail. 1.7 miles, but we didnt get to the end. First part nearly flat, later part more up and down. Washington does have a $11 fee to walk trails without a state permit. Peaceful.
Would have been better if wasnt so over grown. Walked for miles and no reason very access for the tuleys and over grown brush but beautiful
Beautiful place to enjoy some family time! We paddled from St. George put in area to 9 mile in about 3.5 hours at a leisurely pace.
Its an awesome place to get out and go running. Ive loved the trails there.
Nice hiking area! Trail has a little bit of everything! Hills, declines, rocks, water and most of all the views! Great family location!
Great floating creek with good in and outs. Lots of places to stop along the way.
A place that I, a native in the PNW, find myself going to frequently. Starting off as a rocky trail, with a literal 1 ton boulders on your right side, and it goes into a wonder, lush forest, into a magical pond housing many different creatures that cant be seen, but can be heard.
BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE
Great views... And the water is great for canoeing!
Great place to go and adventure and talk a little hike. Also a great place to see some wildlife.
One of the best hikes in Spokane!
So pretty we saw almost 25 deer (or maybe the same group of deer over and over again in different spots, Im no expert) and incredible views! A nice long hike, but stick to the trail, it can get a little tricky. This was our second time coming here and we got lost both times definitely give yourself plenty of time your first couple of times.
My most favorite slow kayak spot around!
Beautiful view and a great place to walk or bike.
Took a relaxing drift down the Little Spokane in our kayaks. Easy and accessible for all ages but you must pay attention to the currents and foliage on shores. Deep enough so as we didnt have to portage anywhere along from St Georges School put in to Nine Mile take out. Plenty of wildlife including birds, turtles and fish. No traffic noise despite being close to town. Not crowded and everyone was friendly and respectful of the peace and environment. Cant wait to go again!
Great hike, beautiful scenery!!
Popular hiking venue
Another fantastic hike in the Little Spokane Natural Area. The fire in 2015 really changed the forest scape. There is a lot of new growth attracting lots of birds and deer.
Great spot for kayaking.
Amazing place to kayak.
Such a great place to kayak. So amazing. We saw ducks, muskrat, and an eagle. All this just minutes from Spokane.
Majestic, close, water, mountain. Literally what more could you ask for
Beautiful trail and area!
Great place to launch ur kayak

A really great hike for a beginner!
Lovely area. Beautiful nature trails. Clean and worth the time to visit
Excellent for small nature hikes.
Very relaxing! Great family time.
Go hike here. I especially like the trail between painted rock and the fur trading post off Rutter Way.
Is where I go for a bit of calm.
Peaceful and beautiful.
Beautiful and peaceful!
So much fun, I live this place.
The Knothead trail is a must if youre up for a moderate hike. Your reward for the effort will be a pretty awesome view. Be aware, however. I had two close encounters with rattlesnakes.
This is just one of many beautiful places to take a hike. All year round there is beauty to be found. Even during the most stressful time in my life, this area has brought me serenity. Take the time to visit mother nature, who knows what youll find there or inside yourself!
A nice hike
The river was beautiful and clean
Great trout fishing and wildlife viewing
Excellent facility
Great!! Not much good back fishing
Cool trail in the spokane area
Great place for a quick hike or a long trek depending on what you want. Parking can be crowded on nice days or weekends.
Lovely trails not far from the city. Always love to get out on a nice hike
Its an amazing place to take a quick river trip. The wildlife is amazing and its a good place for amateurs. Very peaceful.
I love this river. Nice, relaxing beautiful, awesome. Bald eagles, ducks and babies, blue herring, moose, deer, turtles, otters, beavers. Etc. Cant say enough about this wonderful river.
Amazing hike
So natural
A nice hike along the little Spokane River or for more up hill continue on to Knothead trail, looping you back to the parking lot! A Beautiful place!
Great place to enjoy the beautiful place we call home. Love to bring my visitors here to kyak and paddleboard. Shuttle service is worth it on the weekends during the summer.
Lots of trees cut down. Saw geese.
Even though it was winter, this place was beautiful! We did the 7 mile loop trail which was varied terrain and had some sweet views of the surrounding area. You need a discover pass which is lame, and they for some dumb reason dont allow alcohol. How can you hike if you cant have a beer at the top? Ludicrous! Also, even though I dont have dogs, they dont allow them. Its nature, people. Not allowing dogs is dumb. Im sure they have a reason for it, but I dont like it. Also, no bikes or air mattresses. Basically no fun, hike and pay them money to park and get out. Its only 4 stars because it legitimately is beautiful. Look out for the anti fun police!.
Awesome hike. Beautiful river. And cute animals.
Amazing! A hike worth taking. Beautiful!
So beautiful and peaceful ️
Wonderful place
We took trail #291 knothead trail this time and you go up a fairly steep incline, go through a burn area and come to this spectacular view Id seen below on other trail .
Very nice hike. Be sure to do the entire loop around the hill. The view from the top is pretty neat. Lots of Bees and wasps
Take me to the river, drop me in the water....Gorgeous, wildlife abounds, quiet when we were there kayaking - blissful.
Peaceful, beautiful and a great place to spend a day with friends.
Great hike
Super awesome area! We love the River valley! No pets please though.
Beautiful. Make time to visit this area.
The current was not too strong Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun
Amazing hike
Beautiful pla e to float the little Spokane.parking lot is small.discover pass is required.
Very easy access points. Incredibly beautiful section of river. Water cold even in August.
Nature perfect.Awesome kayaking experience.
Cool hiking and trail running. The canoeing is awesome with potential for amazing wildlife sightings. One of the coolest rivers anywhere for easy exploring AND so close to Spokane!
Go explore and find out for yourself, its an amazing place!
Great experience for every age group...
Serene, not too busy, fairly easy walking difficulty. We love this place. Winters a bit of a boring time to walk it, especially since recent fires have added yet more monochrome colouring to the area, but Spring through Fall can be absolutely gorgeous around here...
The first house in Spokane,WA is here in the Natural area on your way to 9 mile falls. Its all tribal and the local guide will tell you fun stuff in the museum which id recommend because who hates history right!? If you come in the summer bring bug spray they are bad out there in the boonies.
It is just what the name says, great place
Great place for hiking or a beginners kayaking. Beautiful any day the sun is shining. Five minutes from division and peaceful surroundings can be found here.Parking can be difficult, take a drive around the area or look online for where to park depending on your chosen activity.
Great nature area. Nice hike.
The little Spokane River is an awesome place to go and kayak.
The park is nice. The fact that you are required to purchase a discovery pass is very disappointing. The pass is so discriminatory towards our lower income fellow citizens. I feel this discovery pass program should be eliminated so we can all be more inclusive and allow all friends and neighbors enjoy the natural beauty of the Washington state park system. I also offer this up as someone who has friends from Canada who felt that the discovery pass was such an impediment to them so they made a conscious decision not to visit our parks, but made other arrangements instead. Again, very disappointing.
Painted Rocks! Ancient art aka petroglyph. Just out of town, but a whole new world.
It was a nice relaxing day on the river
The natural area is refreshing and provides a lot of scenery. At Painted Rocks, there is limited parking coming off of Rutter Parkway. I dont know about the other parking areas, but there is another entry off of Highway 291, north of Charles Road. Definitely will come here again.
Great place to kayack
This little stretch of water is quiet and peaceful. Its a nice place to relax and is close to Spokane.
A safe trail for kids without the river too close
