Spencer State Forest

Wow. This place was just beautiful. We only stayed around the lake but so many things to explore with the kids. Will be going back to explore the trails. It was quiet when we visited.

Beautiful fall color!

Always so beautiful, relaxing. Great for fishing, picnics, playing such games as frisbee, football. Atmosphere is just peaceful with waterfall. They have grills there you can bring charcoal, cook and sit on picnic tables. They have lots of trails to explore!Home of the Howe Sewing Machine! Lots of history at Howe State Park. Enjoy!

Picnic tables are gone, hmmm; beautiful park, though.

This place needs a good cleaning up, hiking trails are great though.

Very peaceful, and clean, great place for a outdoor family reunion. plenty of grills and table to cook and eat at.

Beautiful park, with plenty of walking trails and open fields. If you are looking for a place to have an outdoor cookout they have plenty of camping grills all over their land. Also dogs are welcomed.

Nice place to relax. The waterfall is relaxing.

Its a beautiful place to have a picnic or other type of gathering. We had a wedding there. The negative side is the fact that yhe rest rooms are not open and there is no swimming.

Nice park with a pond and spillway. Trails to walk through the woods along the stream. There is a nice mowed area by the lake for picnics. I watched a guy fishing out here pull a fish out of the pond every 5 or 10 minutes, though Im not a fisher myself. Trails are just pack dirt, so pick your shoes accordingly.

Nice spot to spend the day. Large paved parking lot. Facilities during summertime. Many fishing, biking, and hiking opportunities.

Im with you, Kathie. I was very disappointed to see this deserted park! Everything locked up, no tables, one wooden bench by waterway that had missing boards & rusted nails sticking up. What was once a beautiful, serene spot has become an eyesore.

Small and I went in fall season

We took a ride from Western MA and were looking for a place to eat our picnic lunch. We spotted the sign for the Spencer State Forest and thought it would be perfect place to stop. We were disappointed! The place was deserted; restrooms were locked; trash outside the restrooms on the ground and no trash barrels in sight! In fact, trash was stuffed in a charcoal grill! There were quite a few of these grills in this area, but no picnic tables to be found. Pond looks as though its becoming quite stagnant and no people were swimming in it. We had a blanket so we put it down; ate our lunch and headed out of there! Very sad to see that this beautiful spot cant be used by the folks who visit it.

Small park area with waterfall, short trails, stream, pond. Very nice and serene. Swimming isnt allowed any longer, but you can still find a quiet spot to picnic or laze away a summer day. That is until the off road motorbikes come racing through. I am fairly sure these vehicles are not allowed on the trails at this state forest, bit there are no rangers or police watching over this location at ANY time. I have never seen police presence here. Unfortunate since the people take liberties with this space and force others to find a more hospitable place to be. Sad really.
