PuppetArt Theatre

We attended a puppet-making workshop at this place and it was amazing! Igor and Irina were so knowledgeable and accommodating of our party. The museum itself was full of gorgeous puppets. Definitely a hidden gem thats worth seeking out! Ask about their workshops for a fun activity for kids or adults.

PuppetART Theatre is a surprising little gem right downtown just north of the old Hudson’s space and near the Opera House. They put on honest-to-goodness, real-live puppet shows every weekend afternoon, mostly for kids, but some for adults. They have been in the same building at 25 E. Grand River for almost 20 years (they go waaaaay back!). In addition to the puppet-show stage, the building has a very nice museum (free) showing very interesting developments of puppetry around the world. They also offer puppetry workshops. They are a non-profit so the prices are low and I’m looking forward to attending one of their shows. Parking is great at the nearby new structure called “The Z Lot”.

This is a one of a kind experience. The people who started this brought their puppeteer training from Europe and transplanted it in the heart of Detroit and we are all richer for their efforts. Each show is a unique absorbing tale brought to life with wonderful elaborate sets and puppets. I took my daughter here and some of her friends several times when they were younger, to introduce them to this magical experience. 10 years later I still remember the wonderful experiences with fond memories. Adults will enjoy immensely as well. Go here and make lasting family memories and concurrently support this wonderful dedicated group in continuing their trade and legacy!

Wonderful performances and wonderful actors! The entire place is filled with puppets and culture from all around the world. This is a wonderful place for the family, especially children age 5-16. The lessons and stories are something everyone will enjoy.

Oh my goodness- you wont find anything else like it. Finding parking can be difficult but its worth it. I never would have thought I could be so deeply drawn into a story performed with puppets! I highly recommend The Crane Maiden

An outstanding puppet theatre with great team and very creative puppets. The show was very enjoyable. This place should be a must to visit destination for families with kids.

Unusual but very artistic. Beautiful puppetry. Kids enjoy it and like supporting local artists.
