The movie theater is on the smaller side but gets the job done as the only movie theater in the downtown area. Usually they have all the popular movies and on most night you wouldnt have a problem finding a seat. They also do occasional throw backs by showing classics but you have to check the schedule on their website.
Beautiful old theater from the 1940s lovingly restored. Nice selection of new movies, independent movies, and classics during the summer. Concessions available, including beer and wine, and the Amish popcorn is to die for! If you haven’t visited yet, please do. You’ll thoroughly enjoy it!
Wonderful sitting outside. Social distancing by sitting in circles. The movie was easy to see and hear. Great Job!!
This theater denied entry to us because our 13-month-old son did not have a face mask. PER THE CDC’s WEBSITE, children under the age of TWO are not supposed to wear masks. I will never visit this establishment again, nor will anyone we have passed this information along to. Absolutely absurd to try and set guidelines that are obviously detrimental to a child’s health.
A beautiful working historic theater that features film and live performing art through out the year. Prices vary per the event. Great concessions with a good variety of snacks and drinks. Clean restrooms and two levels of clean seats. A very special Moore County treasure where locals and visitors of all types come to support the arts.
One of my favorite places! Awesome!
Love that they are hosting outdoor movies with all the concessions!
Always enjoy seeing a movie in this unique old time theater. Brings back memories.
We had a blast at the premiere movie of DAbby everyone was dressed in movie era. Wine with glasses to take home. Popcorn and movie just fun.
Porgy and Bess was great and we enjoyed it very much. It was sold out. But, it was hot, too much heat, in the full house.
Small Town theater which hosts movies, live concerts, community events, and live broadcasts of opera and ballet. Ticket prices are better than the local movie theater. Concession stand is affordable. I love sitting in the balcony.
Love the Sunrise. If you get a chance go to see a movie or other entertainment... Go!
Lovely restored Theatre that features Classic as well as Current films. Refreshments available.
Really enjoyed my time here a few days ago! Claire at concessions served me popcorn, a duck hook and some good conversation! Would recommend others to visit this lovely historic Southern Pines business!
Love the friendly environment
The Sunrise is a small intimate theater with lots of ambiance operated by a non-profit board of directors and sponsored by the local Arts Council. They are well-known for screening exceptional films that may not be commercially viable. Its also a great place a great place to see Community Theater as well as other live performances.
Movie choices are excellent. Beer and wine can be purchased and enjoyed during movie.
Lovely older theater beautifully furnished and maintained. Good venue for movies as well as small live programs.
This is a cultural gem! Movies, music, the Met, the Bolshoi and more! Enjoy a movie with popcorn and soda...wine or beer. A comfortable and accessible downtown venue for a great evening or afternoon out. We love the Sunrise Theater...and you will too.
Small cozy theater from the 40s. You can enjoy a symphony or opera direct w/o leaving town. The local seniors love it and so do I.
This vintage theater is probably one of the best in NC, if not the Southeast, and definitely my all time favorite. They show great current films, classics on Thursdays in the Summer (think Hitchcock, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart to McQueen in Bullitt) and indie flicks often overlooked. Beer, several wine selections and popcorn and candy you can pay for without getting a loan. Come. See. Enjoy!!
The Sunrise film selection is always curated well. You can enjoy local beer or cider and a nice variety of movie snacks including non gmo popcorn with real butter!
I love this theater. Second time I have gotten cold stale popcorn and old draft.
Love the Sunrise! Friendly staff and volunteers, wine, beer, and the best popcorn!
Wonderful environment to watch a movie and great staff!
Seafood fresh and delicious.
Love Sunrise theater always see a show when I come to town the popcorn and the people are amazing!
A precious jewel in our community!
Independent movie theatre showing first rate, not usually seen movies in our area. Good wine/ beer choices.
Charming little old school theater with very reasonable prices & a lovely atmosphere!
The Sunriise has the most amazing programming. From movies to special events, each one is carefully chosen! Great addition to our small town.
Tickets & concessions are reasonable. No big crowds. Clean and friendly volunteers that staff the theater.
Every seat in the theater is a good seat and I like there concessions
Nice place to watch movies and lecture presentations.
Always a pleasure to attend a show here. The seats are a bit cozy but the atmosphere and concessions, as well as the volunteer staff make up for any minor discomfort. This is a non-profit Community Theatre. It is full of positive energy.
My friends & I N-joyed the show. Great time.
Small venue. Great place for a show
Small town charm!
Beautiful theater! A step back in time to sweet childhood memories...
Great little art theater! Historic.
Love going to the Sunrise! It’s such a warm and welcoming experience. Film, Opera, Ballet - perfect!
This could be a really cool vintage theater -- but sadly it just seems to be outdated. I can never figure out what is showing from the website and it seems like showings can change at the last minute. I do appreciate the vintage decor!
Amazing! good atmosphere, friendly staff, nice neighborhood highly recommend definitely going back again
Awesome experience! Clare Dunn was fantastic!
If you are looking for a one of a kind experience you need to go to the Sunrise Theater. Everyone who works there is a local volunteer except for the house manager and projectionist. I love the idea that my neighbor might be selling my ticket and another making the popcorn. This historic downtown theater is full of charm and they have a balcony which I just adore and always try and sit in, because where else can you sit in a balcony and watch a movie? They serve beer and wine as well as the usual popcorn and candy. They also have great outdoor concerts and so much more. I cant say enough about my love for the Sunrise!
Great people and experience
Beautiful, historic theater. Excellent, modern sound and full HD projection. Support local business (the Sunrise is a non-profit) and watch your next movie here!
Nicely renovated theater. Seats allow very little knee room for those of us 57 or taller. Concessions are cheaper than a cinema but popcorn was just ok.
The Sunrise delivers a high quality theater experience whether for live or cinematic events.
Love the intimate space of Sunrise.
Southern Pines is lucky to have this gem, it is a focal point in the community. The committee picks great flicks and we even get the Met
Cute downtown theater
Very quaint and nostalgic place in a nice location. Movie was wonderfully presented and surround sound was awesome!
Watch local. Retro awesomeness. Great movies. And wine!
Wonderful preservation of a town gem, excellent lineup of top movies, opera, ballet, real butter popcorn, wine and beer. Relaxed, hometown alternative to the multiplexes
Such a positive atmosphere. It was naturally intoxicating and very peaceful. The pavilion was like a breath of fresh air.
This is a lovely theater with good programming and a generally friendly, helpful staff. Be prepared, however, for occasional cavalier changes in the schedule that are not announced on the website. This is frustrating if, for instance, you have driven 15 miles to enjoy a particular film only to find the theater closed at matinee time, as happened to my husband and me this summer.
The Sunrise Theater is a wonderful theater, in an old historic building in downtown Southern Pines and has something to offer from everyone: First Friday concerts during the summer (free), movies, Opera simulcast live from the Met and it will be expanding its offerings to include the Bolshoi ballet. Live theater is also offered a couple of times a year. Movies are a bargain at $8.00 per ticket with beer and wine sold and can be consumed in the theater. Dont miss this great opportunity which offers something for the entire famiy. Yall come!
Very nice and clean. Went for 1st friday event.
Beautiful and historic theater... very affordable concessions and gorgeous setting.
Great small, local theater experience with a very friendly staff. My wife and I have enjoyed all of our visits to the Sunrise
Great place
Great renovated theater.
They have old movies and new movies, though they may be a bit late, in a much more comfortable and clean environment than the other local theater. However, their façade needs a facelift and the website and logo looks like it came from the early 2000s, so... Not as stylish as they would pretend.
Great movie, first time in that theater
Sunrise Theater hosts the Mets in HD operas. Thats my main reason for being there. I have been to other events there as well. They are wonderful for supporting the arts in the area. They are nice to deal with.
Theres almost always something going on at the Sunrise and its always good, whether movie, concert, opera, play, or something else. Looking forward to the introduction of the Bolshoi ballet, (P.S., the wine is reasonably priced, like the tickets.)
It was fun had great service and my wife enjoyed it
Love the Sunrise...it is almost the only place I see movies.
I love the nostalgic feel of this theater, and the adult beverage availability
The Last Waltz on Thanksgiving is my favorite tradition!
Night of Worship by Grace Church of Southern Pines. Wonderful night
Always a great venue
Great movies, awesome popcorn and beer.Could you ask for more?
Opera today was fantastic. Tosca, live from the Metropolitan Opera, in HD.
A great local treasure. Beer, movies and a fun atmosphere.
Real Buttah! Clean theater with comfortable seats....
Cute theater, loved that they show Met Opera
Great venue!
Love the old throwback theater - and the revival movies are great.
Super great place to go for entertainment.
