A great spot for ocean views, and a small amount of history. For someone who knows what theyre looking for, Im sure that the remains of the fort are very interesting. there isnt a lot in the way of signage or anything to tell you what youre looking at. However, the walk down to the lighthouse is great fun.
This was a really cool spot before the lighthouse. Its an old abandoned fort from the 1800s. Its trenched in American history and a bit creepy. The whole family enjoyed walking around the area and viewing the water through the windows. A door was opened allowing you to walk around the base and see inside the fort.
Enjoyed our visit quite a bit. We love touring old military bunkers. We love the history of them.
Waterfront with views of the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, a nice place to take a walk around. For those who dont mind getting their feet wet, you can walk down to the water and along the rocks during low tide.
Very special little light House but is really worthy for visiting
Plan to take your time to enjoy this area. I would like to see it kept cleaner and scrub grasses mowed to provide more space for flower gardens, however the wild flowers that grow in the unmaintained area are rather pretty. The light house can be viewed from several vantage points and there is quite the panorama of the boats on the water as well. The area looks neglected in places but that may be part of its charm. The parking is limited but if you are up to the walk you can park at Buglight or Willard beach parking lots and spend time wandering around.
Nice views but hard to navigate with a stroller or young children.
Wide open and clean space that offers great views of the ocean and the history off how Maine built Liberty ships.
Just beautiful. Very little parking
Is very nice the view
Interesting spot. Kind of enter at your own risk with the rocks. I see little kids brave enough to jump from rock to rock, just one miss and theyll be missing some teeth for sure.
I love lighthouses. It was a nice walk to the lighthouse. Was fun walking and hopping on the rocks which led to the lighthouse. Parking is very limited but we parked little far away on the street and walked.
Amazing. Attended a wedding. Perfect day and location. Light house and rock trail tops the memories.
Nice little walk
Good lighthouse viewing
Historic site
Awesome history
What a beautiful location! We went to the Maine Brewers Guild beer festival today. What a beautiful day!
Incredible views-!
Awesome place!
I absolutely adore all the forts around Portland, and this location is no different. Their is parking down the beach at Willard Beach or some visitor parking at Southern Maine Community College. From this Fort you have excellent views of the Casco Bay area and a few head lights (or lighthouses) if the weather is clear. If youd like to watch passing boats or ships, this is a great location.
PROS: Good view of harbor, Portland skyline, lifhthouse and fort.CONS: NoneSUMMARY: Modest lighthouse with plenty of green space and public parking makes for nice stop to see Portland skyline from across Bay.
Beautiful place to take pictures and just enjoy the view.
Peaceful location!
Another great lighthouse with a view of an old military installation on the left background.
This is one of my absolute favorite places to wander around. There is no entrance fee but parking can be a bit of a struggle to secure. Its a large wide open area with multiple Relic buildings and theres even a Beach area where the dogs can run around(when the tide is out). Remember to leash your dog until you get to the beach. And I believe theres a point where dogs are not allowed on the beach because of nesting Birds. There are a couple of historical placards that give you some information about Fort Preble. This is also a great launching spot 2 kayak or powerboat / 2 one of the other forts in the water
The lighthouse pier is so fun to go out on. Its an adventure
Easy to get to and great place hang for a few hours
Great place yo take photos. We had a lot of fun here. Be carefull with little kids walking ther rock path their are a lot of large gaps
Great place to take kids too run around, dogs too.
A neat place to go.
The park itself around there was wonderful. Only down side was when we went to walk to the light house there was people doing a photoshoot and nobody could go pass them. It was kind of inconvenient seeing people travel far and wide to come out there and cant.
Beautiful fort with great views of the ocean. Absolutely worth the stop.
This place is amazing. There’s a lighthouse and two abandoned forts. Not much of a beach, no shower, no camping, no bathroom, most people spend 20 minutes here. Great view of the harbor and Portland.
Such a beautiful spot for a walk, views, and a picnic.
Very peaceful and quiet. Beautiful scenery.
Beaches along here are a perfect spot to collect sea glass.
Great old fort
Loved this little gem on our Lighthouse hunt.
A very beautiful and calming place to visit
Just another beautiful coastline along our great country.
If you looking for a place to meditate, enjoy the breeze, a moment of tranquility and a zen, this is your spot.
Nice place to chill and have a coffee while watching the boat traffic on a nice sunny day
Stay away from here because it is truly one of the great secrets of the area and Id like to keep it to myself.
Great views!! Beautiful area
We visited for a sunrise trip. Beautiful location, amazing pictures, fun with friends. Bring shoes safe for mud if its rained recently, because it collects under the overhangs. The water is a very pretty green-blue just in front of the fort.
Nice rock walk out to the light.
Very nice place to visit.
An old granite fort, lots of cool places to explore.
A well-preserved piece of Maines history, with defenses from the War of 1812, the Civil War, and the two World Wars.
Nice but hard to get to for disabled
Nice park. Clean. Even has a pokie stop and gym. Off street parking. Nice park
Beautiful site for events
Wow! So much history and so much beauty!
Lovely place for pictures. Great views of the harbor. Parts of the fort will pop up as you walking along.
Nice place to visit
Nice place to sit and walk around. Lighthouse had some nice breeze
What a workout
One of the best in town lighthouses on the Maine coast. Close to everything.
Walking up to the lighthouse was an adventure
Nice place to go with the family.
Beautiful!
Great place to explore.
Excited to see history of the lighthouse
Nice and peaceful place to chill and the walk to the light house was memorable
This place is so pretty! Good views of the water and portsmouth. Its a short walk along the breaker to the bottom of the lighthouse, well worth it! This is a good stop to stretch legs, check out the beach, and check off a cute little lighthouse.
Beautiful views of the harbor; little lighthouse is cool; very neat to see the water through the old windows of the fortifications and interesting to see how these protected the harbor.
Beautiful city.
Excellent! Loved it.
Just the location is great. A big fort to explore with easy access to the beach and spring point lighthouse.
I like light houses
A lot of History here and I only scratched the Surface
Nice place to walk
Worth the walk out to it!
Cool rocks
Great place
Difficult to walk to lighthouse.
Definitely a great place to explore.
Old fort.
Beautiful morning and evening
Great views of Casco Bay!
Went there to walk the dogs
Fun place on a beautiful day, historic!

Great historical location with beatiful ocean views and cool military installments
Really beautiful spot! And makes me wish I had attended SMCC
Not quite a ruin. Neat to walk around
Cool place to get away
Cool old lighthouse
