Nice place to catch your breath and relax... cool historical site with the old powderhouse on the upper end
Nice park! Lots of benches and a bit of history. Good for a short walk or a quiet hour of reading.
Places on the top of a hill there are enough green spaces to throw a frisbee yet able to find a spot to people watch on the hillside.
Nice quiet spot to sit or walk around
Great spot to sit on a blanket while social distancing!
Great little park, not usually too crowded and lots of shade.
Nice little park in the city with some history. Its got a raised center area with a grain storage tower with some civil war history. We went Saturday morning and were lucky to catch one of the local guides who explained the history tonus. You might want to check on the timing of those guides.
A beautiful and peaceful place to spend an afternoon
Small but always a nice place to walk around or grab a bench to sit on. Lots of trees and a small field you can bring a dog or lay out a blanket. Also has some historical items like the powder house which is cool too see.
One of my favorite Somerville parks, for a small park the paths are fun and wind to the top of the hill which has a nice landmark at the top.
Nice walks through history.
Great outdoor space! Love to read on benches and watch the leaves rustle :)
Great for Pokemon, gyms nature!!
Excellent space to walk your pupper at, or just sit under the shade cast by 100 + year old trees. Although it is on a busy road by a rotary, you easily forget that your in the city.
This is a nifty little park with surprisingly varied terrain. There are grassy lawns, reasonably dense trees, rock walls, and pathways up and through rocky outcrops, culminating in the iconic Powder House itself at the top of a hill. Sadly you cant go in.Dont miss the Pickle Factory memorial stone, with attached bronze pickle jars.
Dont mind the yuppies. Theyre temporary. Hopefully the invasion ends. Courtesy of our back stabbing football coach named Mr. Mayor.
Beautiful park to have a picnic and relax. Not a large park but it is on a tree filled hill with historic buildings and little plaques for you to read. Close to Ball, Davis and Teal squares. Somerville holds events here Spring through the fall. No playground, which is nice. But there is a slide that looks about 70 years old. Side walks around this park are horrible. They have not touched them in over 10 years. Needs more trash barrels.
This is a lovely park! Many trees and places to picnic.
A surprising quiet corner in Sommerville with historical significance
5 stars for what it is: a tree filled park near busy Davis square centered around a revolutionary era powerhouse. The park is mostly a rocky hill with many trees, grass on top and most of the sloping side. One side is bare and rocky with a small slide tucked among the rocks. Many benches line the surrounding walkways. Good for urban escape, picnics and activities that dont require a lot of flat space.
The wall is fun to climb
Small, city of Somerville park on a historic site. The trees at the street-level create shade which prevents any kind of grass. This leads to a slope around a rocky crag which looks very inviting, but terribly dangerous, for children to climb. A path appears wrapping around to the top of the hill, which is home to the oldest stone structure in Massachusetts, a windmill which was later converted into a gunpowder storage depot that played a role in the American Revolution. Okay park. Beware of trust fund hipsters walking with their dogs unleashed, in violation of Somerville city ordinances.
Ive been using this park for over 9 years. Its beautiful, historic and usually peaceful. Unfortunately it seems to have been discovered and in good weather is often inhabited by multiple groups, couples and sunbathing locals. Not the end of the world but it ruins the previous illusion of an oasis in a city. Two years ago there was an amazing food truck festival once a week. Despite my previous issue with overuse, this festival was a gem. It was good food that brought out the locals, college students and new families to mingle, bond and enjoy the wonderful evenings. When visiting this park keep an eye out for small plaques, signs and info about the site, its history and even on the trees.
Beautiful park with ups and downs, benches and walkways.
This is a lovely park to walk through, having a great deal of history associated with it. I love the rocky cliff that gives such a great vantage point!
Lovely little park with paved footpaths. Be sure to head to the top of the hill to see the old mill/gunpowder tower that gave Powderhouse its name. Take the time to explore the whole park--there are a lot of small plaques, statues, and sculptures with quirky details of the parks history.
This place is an interesting historic spot in Somerville. It does lose points for being adjacent to the worst traffic circle ever designed, powderhouse square. You can get a permit to have picnics on the hill. My church had one there once and it was a lot of fun, but it requires a decent amount of planning.
Just a beautiful park. Theres a friendly cat nearby and I will literally walk her over to the park and play with her for an hour. It sounds sad until you realize that Im surrounded by people playing Pokemon alone.
Lovely park in a lovely neighborhood.
Nathans park is a strange little thing in Somerville. Its partly up a rock-cropping, on one side it has some fun sections with a small slide for children and clearly meant to be climbed up on and around. On the other there is a steep path and some steps that go under vine-entwined awnings. This is the perfect place to take your kids to pretend youre all in a fantasy world, where anything could happen.
Nice park to relax in
A beautiful mini mountain in the middle of town.
This was a nice small park commemorating Nathan Tufts. The park is a bit of a hill and has interesting history. Take a nice stroll and see the historic sites.
Best little park in town
Is Beautiful
Fun park with varied terrain and wildlife.
Cool park!
Very nice, quaint park! But its very small.
Nice little park to relax at.
An island of green. Or white!
Nice that its there, but a poor excuse for a park. Glass-strewn in places, beside the busy traffic circle.
Nice historic park in powder house square.
Surprisingly woodsy for the location. Nice park to relax in, lots of pokemon too.
Excellent for sledding with small children in winter.
Nice park. Good spot for a walk with your dog
Big park in a hill, some cool stuff to look at.
Cute little park for reading or throwing a frisbee.
Small park with cool historical background
Clean park with very common special events to see from the colurful community that surrounds it.
